I like that he was moved to do something not just because of how the teacher treated him, but because of how he was treating the other student- “No more than you challenged Coleridge.”
Must say that this is one of my favorite of all the Sean Connery movies that I've seen. Not because it's an action film . . . . which it isn't. Not because it's one of his lesser known and much less spoken about films . . . which it most definitely is. It's because he chose to play a character that wasn't really the primary focus of the film, but more as a supporting role. And although he could have easily made the movie about himself, instead he gave it the nuanced performance that it required Jamal to remain the main character of the story.
I think I'd have loosely paraphrased "A Tale of Two Cities", on my exit.... "It is a far far better place that i go to now....because you, sir, are a swine."😂
You’ve identified how not to do it. So don’t. Challenging a student isn’t a bad thing. Being the know it all and not the teacher is. Just don’t do that.
This movie speaks on how we as people judge one another by our color, our environments, our economic status or whatever ignorant fears we put on ourselves. Creating our own prisons.
This teacher is the best exampe of a bad teacher, because he let`s his students only repeat knowledge like a parrot could do. A real good teacher brings his students to find own thoughts.
He thought the obvious he was a dark skinned black guy who was a athlete at that place on scholarship. He found out that he was a TRUE STUDENT ATHLETE!!!!!
He didn't like that Jamal was smarter than him. Shows just because you're intelligent or knowledgeable, doesn't necessarily mean you know how to teach. That Basketball comment was VERY condescending.
Wallace's character always seemed to me to believe in the "Say less and mean more" kind of guy. He knew he was right. The professor knew he was right. The other students knew he was right. As far as he was concerned, nothing else needed to be said. I also think he was truly disappointed that this teacher would be such a petty person considering how prestigious the school was and thought a teacher there would relish competition like that.
I seriously see nothing wrong in the prof. taunting Coleridge. But there's a lot wrong in the prof. hating Wallace because he's well-read. And that was the main problem with this movie. Writing was tight and entertaining here and there but not everywhere.
Fellow teacher your not teaching scholars you babysitting management. What they retain is what they bought with them... teacher understanding is the key

He likes this kind of movie. He has several: Indiana Jones, Highlander, The Untouchables, Robin Wood
This is definitely a fine film, well acted , directed, and videographed ...
College professor here, cheering on Mr. Wallace. 👏
Out of curiosity if you saw this go down in one your classrooms what would you do? I love this scene and the film is amazing
@@maxhalsted5381 I would applaud it. I love independent thinkers.
@@chadsirwickhughesphd6323 as do i
@@maxhalsted5381 Let Wallace teach part of the course.
Again, no one but F. Murray Abraham could have done that role so deliciously. 😂
He got the upper class arrogance perfectly
It’s almost like a repeat of his character Salieri in Amadeus.
A consummate and superb actor.
@@maxhalsted5381almost like in the spiritual film joshua where he played a priest.
@@maxhalsted5381 And Rob Brown wasn't afraid to challenge him and his So-called Authority
Proper response...
"Further, you should have said further, not farther."
"Heh. Bravo Mr. Wallace."
exactly!
actually farther or beyond the basketball court was correct as well.
In german, it is anscheinend, not scheint. Didn't knew that befor this video 😮
This movie is one of the best movies I ever watched

I believe that was the original quote, but they changed it to protect the name of swine everywhere... 😁

Welp now that's how it ends in my mind now, so thanks for that😂
Such an underrated movie
I hate it when teachers try to assert their superiority by humiliating their students. I just hope I don't become like this in my later teaching years

Another character that FMA plays where he is stricken with crippling envy. He's one hell of an actor.
In an argument with a teacher. The words get out. Usually means victory.
Or defeat
@@elijahvdp Nope. I've been there. It means victory and the teacher wants to maintain his authority and respect.
@@oliverjumellewhich in a moment like this has usually already been lost
Absolutely truth.
Imagine if both were just saying random quotes and names, and neither had any idea what they were saying. XD

Fun fact: This is where Jordan Peele got the idea for the movie title.
Jamal was smarter than the professor. That’s why the professor hated him so!!
& he couldn’t understand how basketball player from the Bronx could be smarter then him

this is me,finding out about this movie and then having to search youtube for clips.
Thanks for Sharing !!
I think it’s free on RUclips to watch the whole movie.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. This muhcka played haters in too many movies. From Scarface to this. Lol
So i was happy for my teachers in school, most times👍
Jamal embarrassed him at his own game, and wound up pulling out his own racsim.
That was one of my scenes
whined? racsim? lol
*Wound (past tense of wind - i.e. "winding a watch", as opposed to a flesh wound).
@@CuirassierJack , O my God I made an grammatical error please forgive me of my sins!
Racism not really. For the professor it was social class than anything else

Excellent movie and very underrated.
Indeed!
I want to see an edit where Jamal responds to the professor’s “GET OUT!” with “JORDAN PEELE!”
Had a guest professor speak at one of our classes in nursing school. She was just as pompous and asked the class if anyone wanted to challenge her. 🙄
Omar Suarez challenged Tony and it didn't end well for him. He challenged Jamal and it didn't end well for him.
"man , is the only animal that blushes..."
Indeed the professor was embarrassed
he should have said "I'll get out, and you are a hack".....worst isult ever to an english prof

Hey, that is "Rogue" in the back!
Anna Paquin
Lovely scene 😂
That was Jamal’s friend
oui au début , mais ensuite on m'a un peu indiqué la voie
c'était un conflit terrible , entre mon identité , et ce qu'il fallait faire qui paraissait être une évidence .... plus évidente
Couldn’t stand to be challenged
just realised when reading the last line of the poem at 0:37 he pronounces 'bade' as 'bad' i wouldn't listen to this professor
