Thumbs up for hillbilly! Hard worker right there
I was about to say that he is always workin or finding work. a true leader
💯 it would really be nice if Robbie knew how to order parts🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Always give Hillbilly his due credits! He's a great worker.
It was so fun meeting you all on the road. The car is awesome and you guys made my daughters day. She is such a huge fan. We fixed a piece of our bumper today and she said “beat that Robby Layton!” When we fixed it. She was shocked when she met you only hours after that. She hasn’t stopped talking about it even after 2 hours of driving later. You guys are great! Thanks for taking the time to talk with us.
I started watching Matt's offroad recovery, then fab rats after the golden nugget rescue, from then your channel. You're now one of my favourite auto channels on RUclips. You almost restored a lot of that car mechanically before you even got it on the road. Well done, this is going to be an epic build. I can only drive auto with my hands due to a work accident but I would love to sit in that car if I won it and feel it running, even get a lucky chauffeur to drive it for me.
Hi Bill. I’m so sorry about your cancer. It’s not fair, but the Layton Nation respects your fight and we are proud to support this build. It will be a fun one because this is every car guys dream. Thank you Robby for the edutainment and adventure. Hey, Hillbilly, my hats off to you as well. Ernie, keep your eye on things so everyone gets home safe.
Great to see some 'old timer schoolin'' by Ernie. Nice to have you back with 10 working fingers!
Yeah its great having someone same age as the car helping lol. I love his personality on camera.
5:5 that, I’m an old timer too, Ernie’s old school
@@TheUnk2009 Likewise. I like Ernie - he's in good shape, not carrying too much extra weight, knows what he's doing. Dunno how old he is but he sure is a useful bloke to have around. G'day from Australia.
That's a kind man right there. He let's you use his shop, tools and cooks up the bbq!
Small town America for you, especially through the Midwest.
Many decades ago, my Dad (ex WWII REME mechanic) and me changed the flywheel and clutch on a UK Ford Cortina in 30 minutes. That's from drive on to drive off. We only had ramps not a lift. No one believed us but that just made it all the more special.
Hillbilly: what would you do without me?
Ernie: enjoy life
I’d like to to call her “mine”! 😀
I think since she’s coming from Kansas she should be called Dorothy
I'll second Dorothy, it's fitting in more than one way.
Yup, Dorothy the Dodge Charger. She won't be in Kansas anymore.
Agreed!! Perfect fit!!
Yes! Dorothy is perfect!
I think "miner's a better name, if not maybe "girlfriend:.
Don't ditch the old wheels that were on it, I love that style. Hopefully soon I'll be getting my hands on a 69 also!
It was really awesome to see Bill and Robert there helping to see this beautiful car off. Bill, hoping the very best for you!!
So hyped up for this build!! I’m really glad I found this channel during the Golden Nugget rebuild.. Loads of content !! You guys are awesome 👏
Wow, you're definitely not doing the "Vice Grip Garage" approach to getting the old "girl" home. It looks like once you're done "she'll" go another 100K miles. Hillbilly's skills are increasingly impressive! All the best to Bill in his cancer journey- Great Guy!
I was looking for this. I was going to post "This is exactly how Derek Bieri DOESN'T DO IT" and here it is. Apparently Paul from Fabrats is aiming to do a race with Cleatu s Mc Farlane so hopefully all our favourite channels might cross over soon. Meanwhile, I'll watch Robby and think "all these new parts must be hurtin' a feller's billfold? A guy might need to see what parts he can save on, you know?"
Robby didn't even check the trunk.
I'm confused, seems these fellas forgot their boat tank and I didn't see 74 dozen fuel filters neither.
Also, how can you fill the float bowl with a syringe? Impossible to get the *perfect* amount like that.
@@prdoohan By replacing the whole intake? Pretty sure that happened. Watched a few tonight.
@@prdoohan The syringe method works because you don’t need to fill it with the precisely correct amount. As long as there’s enough gas in the bowl to get the engine started and running for long enough for the fuel pump to fill the new fuel lines, the fuel inlet valve and float will then take care of maintaining the correct fuel level in the float bowl.
So what he’s doing is just a shortcut so he won’t have to crank it for a long time since it’s starting out with a completely dry fuel system.
My guess is that it will make it 15 miles after several smaller issues then need something critical like the fuel pump to continue. Don't forget to stockpile a few voltage resistors for the trip. My Uncle was a Mopar nut and always had at least 3 extra's in each of his Dodge's so he could make it to another parts store. Lol
My guess is similar - 10 miles! Fuses, relays, regulator, fuel pumps and filters in the car!
Celeste ( is the best )
My dodge has the same resister for the past 12yrs
It's amazing how it's easier to find new parts for a '69 than the '90s cars that we have! Another enjoyable video, thanks.
I received my merch yesterday, very happy! Man, for just a split second I thought that mouse was real...lol. This project is gonna be awesome. Thanks, stay safe guys!
Going cross the desert in charger with no name ,it felt good to be out on the road. 💥👀🐎
I grew up here and Olathe is pronounced Oh-Lay-Thuh.
Love the work y’all do and glad to see an old car getting the love she deserves.
Please keep up the fantastic work.
How do we know yer sayin’ it right just cuz you grew up there? Them Utah’uns (at least some of ‘em) say Hurr-i-can instead of Hurr-i-cane like most of the rest of the world. Then there’s always them edjucated folks from Prescott, Arizona what say Press-kit. I guess I’m on the right track saying Skits-dale (Scottsdale) though them same folks tell me that’s wrong. So hard to know what’s right. :-)))
I'm currently living in Olathe and it's part of the greater Kansas City area. Everyone here calls it that way. It's the Shawnee Indian word for "Beautiful".
It never gets old hearing people mispronouncing Olathe. It's exactly how I would say it if I'd never heard it. 😂
But, why not Oh-Lathe? Heck, when folks ask me how to pronounce my name, I tell ‘em, but add that I could be wrong because I am Polish. :-)))
You guys are just a great team! At the moment the best channel for me about cars. So humorous, comradely, great editor job, just extremely enjoyable to watch. Thank you for letting us be a part of it. Greetings from little old Switzerland.
What a fantastic look over the shoulder of restoring the 69 charger. The logistics of pre-ordering the replacement parts, to troubleshooting the alternatives. Thankyou for shining the light on darkness.
🌏🇦🇺
Those aluminum slots would look great polished and back on that Charger. Torque thrust are so overused these days.
Absolutely right.
I was real upset when I seen that
@@tybrown1448
It's the Bobo way to go with wheels these days.
Lot's of great work being done.
Love the channel.
Can't wait to see how "Sharona" performs on the trip back to Utah.
Be safe Boys!!!
Hey Robby! ‘69 Charger was my second car I ever owned. First was a 67 Firebird 400-and you and Paul have really made me cry! Both are on my list of cars to have again someday. Call your Charger “Goldie” as in Goldie Hawn. After all, you have the “Midas Touch!”❤❤❤
Good job!! Lots of work done. Keep at it, you will be rolling in no time. No breakdowns on the way back home. Your going to make it trouble free.
I've changed a few clutches by myself and held tranny and transfer case on my chest. Lifted them in with my hands and knees. That was when I was in my 20's and early 30's. Now I'm in my early 60's and I wish I'd used better tools and worked smarter...
Ya. I changed a throw out bearing once. Lowered the tranny of a 52 International pickup onto my chest. Good thing my girlfriend was quick at changing the throw out bearing, lining up that fork and spline because, frankly Martha, I though the drain plug was going to go through my sternum.
Oh, so true! I’m in my 70’s now. My mind still knows how to do this stuff, but the ol’ body has trouble keeping up. I’m not weak. It’s just different cuz I am weaker.
For a car with a Calif license plate, there's a lot of rust. After meeting Hillbilly, Dinner, and To Tall Cody, last month, my impression of Hillbilly is right on....knowledgeable competent get it done type of man. OH YEA, GIANT HANDS! This from the old guy with the 47 merc woodie for a first car!
The California plates are worse than the rust, IMO. :-)))
'47 Merc woodys must have really low production numbers!
47 merc was basically a Ford. Two chrome straps on fenders, and a better looking grill. Wish I never sold that car!
Cali plates but in Kansas. Everything rusts here lol
It sat in a garage in Oklahoma for 17 years. Humidity takes a toll on things.
Listening to you guys talk Transmissions reminds me of my Dad Good Memories Thanks Guys Keep up the Good Work
Hillbilly is seriously the hero of this channel- Robbie I hope you pay that guy what he’s worth
Maybe Paul is watching how fast you all are so you can help him out. Thanks for all the videos.
Well Robby, your channel is great!!! Your group is amazing, great personalities! Make sure you take care of those boys n girls they make the channel what it is!
great teamwork and alot knocked out in just a few short days! Fun to see Ernie and Hillbilly going back and forth
Can’t wait for the next episode. Everyone gels on this project. Good guys all around.
What was wrong with the mag wheels that were on it? Always thought they looked better than chrome. Especially if you hit them with acid and clear coat them.
Same thought I had since you started talking about wheels. What was wrong with the ones that were on it?
👍🤜🤛👏👏👏✌️ good job fellas. Glad to be here in more ways than one. As for Old Goldy ? She's not going to have a bit of trouble. Y'all know what you are doing...
What a fun episode this was. Great stuff. Hillbilly is a beast man, knows his stuff and you guys are all a great team getting a TON of work done each day. Pretty cool!
Great entertainment. Thank you for your time.
One great video, that was truly awesome. I was impressed with Hillbilly, he's very good at what he does.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching the "expert removal"😆 of these parts and components. Love this channel! 👏
Ernie is such a great guy on your team. He's like the salt of the team and makes the content even more savory.
Great job ! Looking forward to the build
Robbie, as a Mopar guy all of my life (since I was 10) and knowing you are a big Mopar guy also, I'm curious...since you replaced so many things on the Charger to have a safe, trouble-free, reliable drive all the way back to Utah...why didn't you just get a Mopar chrome electronic ignition box and distributor kit or an MSD 6AL box and distributor for the car? Points are not the way to go for several reasons, they're old tech, they can move around, burn, corrode, the condenser can go out, plus, electronic ignitions provide more spark and increase gas mileage and power. I have converted many Mopars to a Mopar chrome box setup, Pertronix or an MSD performance ignition over the years...they all work GREAT to improve drivability, reliability and even for a day at the dragstrip ripping off 1/4 mile blasts. I just found it odd that you going to use that old, worn distributor, points and condenser for such a long drive home. We love that you are going to fix up this car and give it away to a Subscriber, we're looking forward to some great videos showing the process. We love your channel.
I agree with your assessment of the reliability of electronic ignition; it's definitely an upgrade. I run an MSD box and coil on the cammed up 350 Vortec in my '63 Impala, and I surely don't plan to revert to factory stock. However, I think it's worth keeping in mind that just because electronic ignition systems are a move up doesn't mean the prior tech is horrible. I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles with point/rotor/condenser ignition systems. Do they fail? Occasionally, I guess, although -- personally -- I've never had one leave me on the roadside anywhere. But the parts are cheap, and EASY to swap out with the simplest of tools, and if you check them every time to change your oil, and replace them as needed, you'll very likely be A-OK. If you've got a rig that's burning out ignition parts in the distributor, there's something else going wrong that needs to get sussed out.
Awesome video Robby. Hope you can run a derby sometime this year and Tell Ryan that does not look like a roundback wagon. And I think the name Dixie sounds decent.
I grew up in Olathe, and just last year moved like 60 miles north of Olathe. Wish I'd known you guys would be in the area. Good luck! That's going to be an awesome trip.
Golden Girl (Goldie). That brings back memories of my Dad and I bringing my then unrestored Model A home to Baltimore from New Jersey. The soft centered top blew off in the middle of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and landed in the Delaware River. Fun video, thanks!
A 66-69 440 is internally balanced. 70-71 440-6 engines are externally balanced (little weight) and 73 and up cast crank 440's are externally balanced (big weight). The weights will be on the flywheel and damper.
Your not supposed to use a screwdriver to push in the piston , it could damage the rubber seal that the locks in the push rod. Use the push rod or a wooden dowel , they will not damage the rubber seal , when you bench bleed the master cylinder.
Great job guys! Glad to see Ernie back. More Ernie please. He's a great addition! 🤠🌲🌲🦅
Who is Ernie?
The guy that painted the master cylinder
Nice going, you got the old pro back to work(Ernie).you guys are great!!! Keep it going
Maybe I am missing something, but what would be wrong re-using the stock wheels since the purchased ones don’t fit?
They need to fit the new brakes in.😉
@@hosshoffer7579 I get it. I wanted 11 inch wilwoods on my 57 belair, and had to go to 15 inch wheels
@@billbearden7301 A lesson I learned from lifting the Jeep and fitting larger tires. Found I needed bigger brakes to stop the bigger tires and bigger rims to fit the brakes. And it just gets more expensive from there.😖
It'll break-down in Green River... Everybody I know breaks down in Green River including myself.😆🤣
Love your handle!
Regarding the vacuum booster.... Vasaline will help soften old rubber... I also used permatex to seal any cracks in rubber boot. Repaired old 1974 Dodge dart and drove it for years without any issues..
Thanks for doing the resto right, unlike other youtube channels.
You didn’t put any cam lube on the cam in the distributor so the points can have lube on the bumper. They will wear down and close after a while.
First thing I thought of when I saw Ernie with the dist cap off.
@@61rampy65 also I was wondering about the thermostat, they didn’t mention that they changed it. Maybe if it opens once it will open again the next day along with the water pump seal holding in there.
Ernie is cool!!
Well, not as cool as Ed, but almost!!
🤣
That's awesome! So many good memories of my grandad seeing that charger run.
Gotta love those feeler gauge's and I like the team work getting together guys
Her name should be Carmen, because you guys are all car men...um, yeah, well okay I`ll go sit and think about what I`ve done...
If A Car Is A Manual Transmission, I Was Always Told By The Old Timers That It Male...
Great team work and you are doing it on the road! Impressive! Very impressive!
It will make the entire trip without major breakdown. You guys have done a thorough and amazing job in prepping this vehicle. Good luck.
Good morning everyone
Have a great day sir
Good morning from Vancouver 🇨🇦
This is my dream car, except in gun metal with black accents.
Had a Tbird gunmetal with black cherry accents. Looked black until the sun hit it.
Robby I am really enjoying this series of videos on this charger that car is bad ass owning that would be incredible I would feel like a kid again. Will you be doing videos while you guys are on the road? I really hope so that could be a lot of fun.
Keep up the great work everyone
Mad respect for your collective skillz. Why I love the Matt/Rats/Robbie channels.
Nice work gentlemen. I'm 20 miles away by Chiefs stadium. On the Missouri side of Kansas city.
I learned a few things in this video. I bet a few others did too. My money says you wont break down. Good luck
What a "SWEET RIDE" this is gonna be!!!! Love it!!!! 😍👍🏻
You gotta call her Daisey, such a cool car. Nice work Robbie and the gang, watched all the Nuggett build too....Awsome..
you guys are doing an awesome job on new to me car! thanks and god bless
You trying to rebuild the whole thing before you drive it home? Wow, you guys are going at it strong. It is coming along great.
Hammer down! Great work fellas!!! 🤘🏼
Excellent work on the golden nugget Robby.. From Digitalstu, New South Wales, south coast, Australia.
A Roadkill style thrash to get it road ready… I like it!👍
Penelope should be the name of the Charger. Good to see Old Man Ernie. 👍 Hope the engine seals don't give you trouble. Going to be an awesome project.
Always great videos no matter what project you’re doing!
You have no idea how excited I became when you said a viewer will get this car. It would be hilarious if it came all the way back to Missouri though. Awesome project.
Start with a quick pressure washer rinse off. Makes working on it much more enjoyable from my experience. Love the vid! Keep up the hard work brother.
Great show/channel Robbie. My guess: First breakdown will be at 200 Miles. Something easy for Hill Billy to fix though (check your alternator)
way to go! really like the classic stuff
Hillbilly is a beast!
As usual, hard working crew. Good luck and Godspeed on your roadtrip.
Great episode! Its nice to see some mechanical work :)
I can't believe you guys were in Olathe (O-lathe-a). Right in my backyard and I didn't even know it. Can't wait to see the Charger get the Nugget treatment!
"Goldie". My Dad's ol' '76 C30 was a similar gold colour, and that name just stuck very early on. It also helped when he told us to go get something out of the truck, as he had more then one pick-up, lol!
My hat and a piece of the Golden Nugget paint already came in!! Thanks and I hope no one tells ED!
Excellent start to a sweet built! Based on the color, clementine sounds fitting for her.
Hi guys, this is going to be a awesome build to watch. Thanks for the entertainment
As quick as Hillbilly took out the transmission, I’m confident he can install in the slotted time.
crazy mate, looks awesome look like a great car to have some fun with
Name for the car is Daisy. As Daisy Dukes for the General Lee a 69 charger. Enjoying the channel, keep up the hard work.
Excellent video guys.
When you travel with Matt or Robby bring a full gas can! What a crew, all of you are awesome. Safe travels. Aloha!
With all this prep I think you will make it all the way home. Paul made it is his barn car with much older parts. If you detour through Las Vegas I’d love to see the car and all you guys.
If you make it pass the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70, then you should be home free. That is one great find. I love old MOPAR's. Good luck on your trip back to Utah RLN!
Thumbs-up.. Hill Billy...top bloke right there!
And that beautiful example of a barn find probably cost more money than I'll ever have in my life. Happy I picked mine up on the cheap...I may need new floors, trunk and quarters but still cheaper than buying that beautiful RT.
I think the car should keep the name Ole' Girl. There's a bit of history behind that, and it seems fitting. Keep up the good work!
You guys are great! Love watching your videos!
Of course you get one of my favorite cars. If I could I'd have one and drive it every day. 440 4spd blue with white vinyl top. 😍
This is going to be an awesome build👍
I live here is “Olay-The”! I so wish I could have met you guys and made a video! Pumped for this build!
The '69 Charger is a piece of rolling American art. It is a design that is up there with the finest rolling art in the world.
