    This, to me, is where AMS2 shines. It's my go-to for classic racing, mainly because it's one of the few sims that includes really great versions of classic tracks and cars that you simply don't get in other modern sims without going hunting through forums for mods (looking at you, Assetto Corsa).
    And I enjoy that Reiza are still constantly working on improving the game, it's really come on leaps and bounds in the past year and I'm excited for the release of the Group C cars and the '93 version of Spa somewhen "soon™".
    And I concur that they need to work on revising the default setups to be actually usable so you can pick any car and just drive without worrying about tuning out miles of oversteer and wobbly-ness. They don't have to be FAST setups, just good enough to not feel wrong when you pick them up.

      I am NOT in any way knowledgeable about the settings. If GPLaps can set things to where it's realistic, why can't AMS2 devs' (or testers) set all of the cars to things that represent the era they came from? That would make it a lot more immersive for someone just picking up the game.

    • @atlantic_love
      @atlantic_love Год назад +1

      @the Game, Review and Reallife Channel His post wasn't even about mods. It was about him figuring out how to configure the settings for the cars so that they run realistic to their era, and the dev's (testers) choosing not to do so. Go somewhere else with your console garbage.

    I agree with all your comments on AMS2, Jake. I really like the game too, despite the quirks that still need to be ironed out. I found driving the retro F1 cars quite frustrating due to the excessive understeer. I also played a lot with the setups (slight negative toe on the Brabham a-la Grand Prix Legends helped a lot), but I also had to change the rotation on my Fanatec wheel to 640 degrees to get the car to react more realistically. I really love the variety you are offering on your channel... thank you!

    Once again another great review. Once upon a time in the 70s there there was no F1 tv coverage. I counted on Rob Walter's reports in Road and Track mag. Mr. Or maybe Sir Walker was of the from the Johnny Walker Distillery family and fame. A F1 team owner and major sponsor he knew almost everyone. He had great reports with many insights from drivers and team managers. He stated how fast and continuous , relentless this track was. But having never seen it couldn't envision it. It's now easy to see how Mark Donohue was kill by a catch fence post after leaving the track, may be why so much guard rail in your SIM version. After all these years I can understand what happened, tks again.

    Murray Walker called them the Texaco Bends on the old BBC broadcast. At one time, they were known simply as Panorama. And yes, The old Osterreichring is a fantastic, fast, and simply effective circuit. Patrese went flying off in the second part, scaring a spectator, in the 1982 Austrian Grand Prix.
    Since a number of people have commented on the airboxes, I'll say that they're a mixed bag with me. I don't particularly like how it looks on the McLaren here, and I can't say I'm a huge fan of the look of that specific Brabham. I'm fine with the Lotus 72 though. I think the Porsche 936/77 looks quite good.
    So yeah, fun stuff.

    Nice race. The default setups aren't very good. I've found tyre pressure to be one of the bigger factors. That weird bump behaviour you encountered might be the problem with the differential in AMS2. The players who have telemetry would have a better idea, but I think it's something like the forces applied through the diff are twice what they should be, so you get sudden snap oversteer. Hopefully Reiza are able to fix it.

    I think the diffs on these cars are just way too tight, so I lower them even further than you do, dropping the preload down quite a bit while using similar ramp angles. These cars are so much fun to drive. They're absolutely brilliant, but the physics quirks absolutely pop out with these too often. The way these things feel on corner exit is so nice, though.
    I think the Lotus is the best compromise of impossible to drive vs speed. Brabham seems to be the fastest but I cant drive it at all.

      It was his first video I've given a thumbs down because of this comment. The developers added a lot of highly sophisticated mathematical models to AMS 2 and a guy, that is a good content producer but specifically here even missed the apex of some corners, feels comfortable to call it just a fun game? Even worst, he, in a very patronising and condescend way, tell us that it is OK for us to like it, as if we were just a bunch of morons who knows nothing about automobile dynamics and racing! No, no, no!

    • @6665hitm4k3r
      @6665hitm4k3r 3 года назад +1

      Thatswhy he said "... in my eyes". I've spent quite a bit of the time with AMS2 myself but I still get PC2 vibes from it. I think people can argue as much as they want but PC2 is not a sim in the sense of AC, ACC, AMS1, iracing or rF1/2. I still can't get along with the bouniness of the cars and some of the stuff just feels very boaty and sluggish in comparison to other sims out there. But it might get there in the future. What I really like is the content selection, especialy the focus on historic racing. It's something that most other studios mostly ignore compared to the amount of modern content.

    • @Rafael-ko1cb
      @Rafael-ko1cb 3 года назад

      @@6665hitm4k3r, ok, you're right! Maybe saying he was condescending was too much, as it was based on my reading of his voice intonation (what I may have been completely wrong). But the "it is not a simulator" part, it is something that not only he but several other content producers do that is not fair and pisses me. For telling what or not a simulation properly mimics the real deal one needs to either have experimental measurements to compare to or a vast experience with the vehicle being simulated. And even in the case of the vast experience, it can sometimes be misleading. So, unless he has driven an actual McLaren or have compared the simulation to experimental figures, he cannot tell it is just a game without being unfair
