      Drivers would get in their practise very early in the morning to minimize traffic. Many people at that time still used horses and wagons for their daily activities; it'd be one hell of a sight for a 908/03 or Alfa 33 to whip past you on those treacherous roads.

    As someone that dedicated his final years of simracing (more or less) to learning THE most challenging circuit out there, it's an honour to be mentioned & referenced in this video!
    For anyone that wants to learn Targa, know that it takes about 60 completed laps to know where you're going (I believe Vic Elford said that, and it was almost exact for me), but I promise the reward of knowing where you are and what's coming up is SO worth it.
    Thanks again, Jimmer, I love you :).

    One name that should be remembered with regards to the Targa Florio - Vic Elford. This guy was a Targa specialist, and apparently he was blessed with a photographic memory. One time, when he had to drive a distinctly underpowered and outdated Porsche, he was as much as an hour behind the leaders when it came to his driving stint, and he used all that knowledge of the circuit to such a devastating effect that he actually ended up winning the thing. To commemorate their race wins, Porsche would usually issue special edition posters featuring a picture of the winning car of a race, but that time the poster didn't feature the car. Instead it consisted of Elford and a few Porsche mechanics just after completing the race, grinning from ear to ear. The reason given by Porsche why they featured Vic instead of the car was that it wasn't so much the car that won the race, but rather the driver.

    21:05 (ish) If you end up doing this, it would be absolutely bonkers cool if you could set up a camera and treat it like a normal live stream (even if it's only a recording) where you talk to the viewers/the camera as you go around, explain what you're doing, how you feel, why the pleb behind crashed into you, etc. I understand this would be difficult/impossible at first, but maybe after a while once you get comfortable in the seat. It would be an insight we don't really have in the racing world outside of sims.

    This reminds me of the Isle of Man's TT mountain circuit in terms of length (37.73 miles - not as long as Targa Florio) , scenery and going through narrow villages and stuff, Kirk Michael being one of them and Parliament Square in Ramsey being another, hitting the houses or coming off your bike in those sections of the circuit often resulted in death or serious injury, so yeah this circuit is similar even though you have 4 wheels as opposed to 2.

    Jimmy, the reason why your channel struck a cord in me is the place where you come from. No, not physically, I mean mentally.
    Mental issues are somewhat frowned upon in my family. Growing up, if you had something wrong in your head, it was all just in your head, just make the bad demons go away and you'll be fine.
    Obviously, it doesn't work that way, and I learned it first-hand, I didn't have any really bad mental issues, but I can relate to you. Obviously, Jimmy doesn't show all the stuff in his life, but the things he has talked about having anxiety in public and depression have been fairly relatable, and i have went through the same things, albeit, at a less severe way.
    I love his passion for motorsport, and the genuinity he has in his videos, there are no fake personas, no fake emotions, no fake feelings. He's just a regular lad living in his moms shed sharing his passion of motorsport and actually succeeding at it, because guess what, he has a great personality.
    I found his channel at around 10k subs, I remember all the GT1-5 streams he did, I remember him hitting first 1000 livestream viewers on one of his GT videos and him going absolutely bonkers. I remember that and it inspires me that there are people who can get up from the very bottom and make a name of themselves in this world. I don't believe in miracles, but this certainly gets close to it.

    Late to the vid but I hope you see this. Ayrton senna said something along the lines of “go karts are the purest form of racing”, although cars would be fun you get more a bang for your buck racing karts. You get wheel to wheel with other drivers and although it is perceived as basic they allow you to fully comprehend set up/race mechanics and physics. I’ve been racing karts for 10 years now and I can say it has given me some of my greatest memories and friends and I would love to see you create a series showing your Journey.

    you should ask Georg Ortner for a better version of the targa florio. I saw him streaming while he drove the targa with much more trackside objects, afaik it was rf2 and a version where he was part of the mod-team.

    • @captainunderpants200
      @captainunderpants200 5 лет назад

      That version is a conversion of the original GT Legends version, and is optimised for computers of that era, ie. most of the landscape is a skybox jpeg. The track itself is just a ribbon of polygons with big holes in the ground, and the trackside objects are low-res 2D sprites. This version looks like it'll have the full scope of the track as a 3D model, and that is something I have dreamed of for years. I look forward to the final product.

    • @getsideways7257
      @getsideways7257 5 лет назад

      @@captainunderpants200 I still much prefer the rF2 version. Not only because you are supposed to have your vision blocked by the trees, but also because rF2's handling makes more sense. This version doesn't look like something deserving a public video. Not yet, at least.

    The circuit is called *Circuito delle Madonie* , with *three* configurations/layouts - "Piccolo" (as you already mentioned), "Medio" and "Grande". "Grande" was last used in the 1930s, I think. With *that* layout, the circuit was almost *150 km* long, which made it *THE* longest circuit in the world back then, with Circuit de Bastogne (not used anymore) coming as 2nd (around 100 km) and Circuit de Dieppe (not used anymore either) as 3rd (77 km). And yes, "Targa Florio" is the name of the *race/event* .
