@@TPau65 I actually think they would last without any problems at all. And if not, maybe it would make the manufacturers improve their overall quality on their cars. :)
The huge exhaust pipes on the Tatra 603 B5 are actually an ejector cooling system for the V8 engine. But they also acts as trumpets - it is loud, and glorious. A few of those cars are well maintained and driven at events. I think they've been to Goodwood in the past as well.
Oh man, holding an endurance race online on this track with these cars and some way of simulating actual mechanical wear over time (not just when you over-rev or crash) would be incredible! Imagine getting half way through the lap and a radiator hose randomly bursts, so you have to manage the engine heat all the way back to the pit so your mechanic can quickly slap another hose on and get you back out... Not sure any sim currently has that level of detail, but we can dream, eh?

If possible you should do a simulation of the 60s years of the Bathurst 1000km (or 500 miles) race with Cortinas, Minis, Falcons, Monaros, etc on a classic version of Mt Panorama
It really is an interesting event. I'm glad to hear this from you! The unique (and unusual) regulations made sure participants would treat things like they would on the old, long distance rallies and road races that the Marathon de la Rout is trying to recreate. For example, those pitstop rules made sure that the drivers would be less dependent on the pits and pitcrew for any repairs, forcing them to try to mend their cars on the side of the circuit if needed, just like they would do on a road race/rally, where the team crew weren't always present to help.

Great video jake! Love all the history parts. In 1969, from Argentina 3 IKA Torino cars were sent to Germany accompanied by Juan Manuel Fangio. The whole race was between Lancia and the IKA Torino, both teams lost 2 cars, Lancia was 2 laps behind and the Torino won completing 334 laps, but due to a broken exhaust pipe and not entering pits to repair it, they got a penalty and sadly lost, ending up 4th even though in Argentina it’s a legend car still today.

Well... that was "unexpected". As a Czech AND fan of sim racing myself, I should know about such a success of Tatra 603. Thanks for widening my knowledge. You seem to carry a motorsport chronicles in your head. EDIT: And big thanks for new track/car discovery. I did not know about this version of Nürburgring (same for the Tatra).
Thank you so much for your hard work. I didn't know that a race like this one did exist. I really thought the 24 hours was long but 84 hours wow that's insane. Sadly I dont think a race like this would happen Today because it would be too costly for both the drivers, the cars and the sponsors.
The history lesson was lovely but the night drive was just beautifully immersive in its eerieness(?!). AC never ceases to amaze and neither do the modders and content creators. I can't imagine what it must've felt like trying to pass this tank in a Mini or MG.
Sim Racing is a great tool for automotive history; especially highly-moddable ones such as Assetto Corsa where modders can add in deep cuts that even Kaz and the guys at Polyphony won't get to. The Eastern European cars, especially racing cars from the Soviet Union era like the Tatra 603 for example don't get anywhere near the love & attention they deserve; the best you'll get being current-year rally vehicles in the officially licensed WRC and Dakar games, with DiRT Rally maybe picking up the '05 Fabia WRC every now and again to honour Colin McRae.
Awesome stuff man. I really appreciate the attention to detail you put into this video. things like leaving all the settings you used, the chapters or however they're called, etc. I had no idea such a long race existed, and I am very glad you were able to teach me about it and let me have a taste of what it's like. I'll definitely be doing my own version of this race as well some day.
Mega interesting video! Didn't even know this race existed. Assetto Corsa is just great for these kind of races, be on your own, no pressure, just immersion in the race you're doing.
The Honenrain Chicane was added for 1967. I had actually seen this race mentioned in a book quite some time back. I eventually was able to find a good, clean, intact version of said book for my own library. Kind of a funky looker, but neat to drive/take in something unique and different. Honestly, I think that gives a pretty good impression of true night racing. They used to start the Reims 12 Hours at midnight. Actually, for some drivers, the lack of light seems to have the opposite effect, and they in fact can go faster in the dark. Aside from Brunchen being eased, you did mention the crests on the Dottinger Hohe Straight. In addition, the hump, dip, and rise on the approach to Schwalbenschwantz is more pronounced on this older version of the circuit. Finally, the last of the more notable differences compared to the modern version is that the esses after Pflanzgarten are more severe in this rendering of the circuit. You almost had Sir Jackie in the Cortina. Nice montage there at the end.
I do motorcycle track days (which are like 7-8 rotations of 20 minutes over the course of a day) and I'm absolutely whipped after 2 or 3 days (of probably not doing all of the sessions because I'm tired). I can't imagine trying to maintain the level of mental focus you need to perform well for such a long time. I have racer friends that do 2 and 4 hour endurance races on teams of 2-3 where you ride for 40ish minutes at a time and they are completely drained from even just that much. (Obviously motorcycles have higher physical demands but the mental and emotional demands are similar) Truly astounding that people are able to perform these kind of long races. Also more astounding that they manage to convince other people to do support for them for that whole time, or do it by themselves without help!
I have been watching most of your videos.. And wow... I love the history stories in the intro... The driving every thing... Wish I can go back in time to watch this races.. Keep it up

Everyone else thoroughly expected GPLaps to have done this in real time, right? Anyway, I only recently found out about this event's history but you offered a lot more - another fabulous vid thanks. One thing well down my "one day convert" list is the Mazda 110S that was the first (?) Japanese works effort in Europe.
GPLaps has well and truly established a niche for himself within the sim racing community; more than a mere presenter and reviewer of the content he shows off, he delves into the historical context of what he drives. His Delage 2LCV & Opel Rennbahn double-feature review is one of my favourites and he's continuing to improve with his narration and presentation.
Never heard of this race! Thanks for shining some light on this epic madness. I feel your channel is just hitting its full potential and its great to see how things have developed over the last few years. I always wondered what they used the gesam streke for!
I’m glad I decide to search up one day “Avus the wall of death” and after watching Circuits of the past (and binge watching all of his vids) I stumbled upon your vid of you racing it. And now for the past four days I’ve been binge watching all of your playlists. As of rn I’m on the 1989 Grand Prix and it’s crazy on how you can literally see your progression in everything from driving skills to the editing to even your speech confidence. Like man it’s been an amazing journey and can’t believe I haven’t found you sooner too cuz I’m subbed to viperconcept and supergt plus a lil more so imo it’s weird it took so long, especially considering you’ve been doing this for like 14 years, either way tho I’m glad I did lol.
Very well(and beautifully) done onboard ride, looks so realistic throughout the day and night, like it just brought us back in time! Thank you so much for providing us such wonderful experience of this long-forgotten amazing event!
That night driving session was wild! Imagine in the early days of motor racing only being able to drive the circuit once a week at max and needing to have that all in your head or else you'd spear into a hedge.
Fuzo showed me this car via a PM in RD and felt amazing. Watching your video makes me want to reinstall AC just to try this mod. Fuzo and Pessio cars are the best around... wish someday they mod for AMS2 (that is about to receive it's first modded cars). Cheers!
Great video. I really was amazed how you kept the car on the track at night. I could hardly see a thing as a spectator, ha ha, excellent racing though.
I was not expecting to be completely taken by this. Your presentation and voice are a joy to listen to. I don't know about the accuracy but I'm believing it. I'm a fan of the modern Nordschleife but this is something else and with night driving which i admit i couldn't do as well as you did. I also love the Tatra. What a cool vehicle. I'm sold. I've subscribed which is not common for me. Cheers.
Fantastic. Didn't know this race existed and it not only showed it off well, but reinforced my belief that all endurance races should be 24 hours rather than 6/8/12. Then even F1 is too brief for me so what do I know.
That was awesome. I get why they don't do something like this nowadays (safety, etc) but how amazing would it be to see some manner of this race again one day.

Absolutely amazing video. Love the story the gameplay. And the final thoughts . Gonna try it myself. Thanks for showing us this amazing race
I can't wait for you to blow up. Amazing video as always, keep it up
Thanks for this amazing race. Aaargh the last bit was nail biting. Darned the Cortina. But great great video.
Never heard of this race! Thanks for shining some light on this epic madness. I feel your channel is just hitting its full potential and its great to see how things have developed over the last few years. I always wondered what they used the gesam streke for!
Your night racing is intense! Great job getting through the course and great videos with real time commentary.
Cheers!
Greatr vid mate, good fun. That Tatra look quite high when you are behind other cars.
Wow - what an incredible grid!! You’re creating some beautiful content @GPLaps , while also showcasing other folk’s fantastic work too!
Cheers.
@GPlaps well done producing this video, top notch.
Very well put together, narrated, informative video! Thanks!
Excellent, Jake, i never knew of this race. 4 days and nights, epic. (Bathurst, Australia) :)
Fantastic. Didn't know this race existed and it not only showed it off well, but reinforced my belief that all endurance races should be 24 hours rather than 6/8/12. Then even F1 is too brief for me so what do I know.
It's amazing that this entire race is put together with community mods.
That was awesome. I get why they don't do something like this nowadays (safety, etc) but how amazing would it be to see some manner of this race again one day.
Oooh maaan, this is racing heaven, so happy for knowing this race exist :"")
Your expertise, your voice and your way of producing videos fascinate me every time anew!
Loved the history lesson that you gave, very nostalgic, pity you didn’t make the podium.
I think it's the first video i see referring both the Marathon and the 603 Tatra. Good job!
The 603 is a absolutely amazing car to drive, isn't it mr behra
@@graysonbyass-rascoe4326 A little underpowered Rascoe!
@@jamesbehra2690 Like a Cadillac Eldorado right it just doesn't have it on the straights but it's very nice in the turns. Feels like it could be used for some good club racing with some vaz and skoda cars, i hope that he does a episode on the formula easter cars!
@@graysonbyass-rascoe4326 Caddies were always good for people with back problems! Eh eh . But yes Easter automotive and general motor industry was always somehow underrated. Who would say that the Germans were fitted with Czech tanks during Barbarossa?! And used their captured planes for Luftwaffe cadets on their training?
Cheers!
@@jamesbehra2690Also caddies where for mob bosses haha, and yes Easter cars are criminally underrated so much fun from what I hear a certain power plant with a massive melt down if you know what I'm talking about (hint it had a hbo show and a video game named after it) was supposedly was having a grand prix planed but that was before the big boom
Cheers mate hope to see you soon ;)
Perhaps a race like this would be more marketable today, thanks to streaming? It'd almost be like those gaming marathon events, but with motorsport.
What a great video! Only thing missing was the odd bit of wildlife running across the road through your headlight beam during the night! LOL
Great vid as always. However Tatra is the 2nd oldest auto maker in the world, producing cars for 100 years, starting in 1897 and ending in 1997 with the t700. The only time it stopped car production was during the 2nd world war. Tatra sued vw over the beatle prior to ww2. That lawsuit was settled and tatra was paid in the 50's.
I love your great vids and the thought you put into each one. Cheers.
Thanks so much for this. I’d heard of this race, but had forgotten the name and was starting to think I imagined it.
thank you for that Tatra highlight, iam proud.
you're really good, one of my newly favourite channels to watch.
Another video that's beautiful, informative and surprising. Thanks so much.
I enjoy taking this Tatra to old Monza. It's not that fast for the track, but it's quite enjoyable. Thanks for the old Nur link!
Everything about this video was awesome, thank you! 😁
This was really great! I had no idea this existed, but it's enough to make me go and reinstall assetto corsa to put this together for myself!
Love your content, keep it up man! :)
What a video! Think it is interesting as well that the last few years this was run as a rally on public roads, it ran all the way from Liège to Sofia, Bulgaria and back, instead of Rome! I can't think of much other Western motorsport competition that ran on the other side of the Iron Curtain in those days, aside from some European Touring Car races in Budapest...
The Mazda Cosmo and Porsche 911 are the two cars that I remember from this 3.5 day endurance race.
Found your channel through one of your GP car videos. Didn't know of this race untill I saw your video.
Imagine hearing that imposing engine drone draw closer around midnight as you're fighting your way around the track, struggling to maintain 160 km/h even by day, as you're not familiar with the track.
I am amazed by the quality of video and commentary
