James Patrick's acting has improved so much since these days. He is so much better as Valentine on GH. Kelly Ripa was great in these scenes. These were the best of times in soaps.
This is a very powerful scene. It brought back frightening memories of my childhood but it was incredible and a wonderful testament to the incredible acting
Why Hayley didn't call the cops?! I don't remember watching this when it aired so maybe it made sense to teenage me at the time, but I'm sitting here expecting to hear "911, what is your emergency?" and instead it's "oh, hey An Lee. Could you out Brian on? I'll wait" lol
Oddly enough when Dixie and Will came to town, Dixie (played by Kari Gibson) and Will (played by Lonnie Quinn) had reversed roles. Dixie was the manipulator and Will wasn't.
So if Janet kills him for attacking Hayley, then why did they spend years giving Janet a hard time for it. Seems to me like she did Hayley a favor. They should've given Janet an award!
@@marcelparker6755 It was because she kidnapped Natalie and threw her down a well--then proceeded to impersonate her, IIRC. OTOH, Will deserved EVERYTHING Janet did to him in spades...
@@Unknown-bq9id I won't deny that was completely wrong of her. She clearly had issues being verbally abused and was least favored over Natalie. But the town giving her grief over killing Will, who was scum on top of scum? No way.
@gcn2usoap ... Couldn't agree more! This was when AMC ruled daytime! I was only 12 when I pulled my sisters hair and the babysitter made me sit and watch her soaps with her as punishment. I was a fan from 1992 to whatever year Janet became good and went off with Trevor, that's when I knew the writers were done. Janet and Kendall (Sarah Michelle Gellar) were my faves. I am gonna tune in for SMG and ELR's return before it goes off the air.
Brian? Trevor was her uncle and Adam was her dad. Those were two CONFIRMED crazy dudes. Even his uncle Palmer was a piece of work. She should have called either of THOSE THREE to deal with Will's punk ass!
Someone in the comments said she should've called either Trevor or Adam. One's her dad and the other's her uncle.... and they're both certifiable crazy. Hell, even Palmer would've done just fine.
I remember when he raped Gloria. That was before they made her a more likeable character. Then didn't show what happened. I just remember her being almost catatonic and later breaking out in tears about being raped. He had her terrified. Surprised she and Janet didn't bond over that.
I never watched AMC but my dad did. I always remembered this scene. I remembered some guy named Will was either crouching or in a seated position and I remember him looking up and staring at something in fear while creepy music played. And then I remembered seeing a crowbar. Perhaps this scene is what inspired my love of Ted Bundy. 🤷
Hayley was devastated when her boyfriend Brian married An Li to help her stay in the country. Will took advantage of her heartbreak and naiveté to sweet talk her into marrying him and got her hooked on alcohol to keep her from thinking straight and realizing what a mistake she made. I think getting his hands on her money was just an added bonus for him.
Yes, it was quite a bit later. There was a whole murder mystery surrounding Will Cortlandt's death. Hayley actually thought she'd killed him for a while because she got so drunk after locking herself in her room that she blacked out and didn't remember what had happened. Then, I think Brian tried to take the rap for Will's murder to keep Hayley from going to jail. Frankly, everyone in Pine Valley had motive to kill Will, and the trenchcoats many characters were wearing the day he was killed were meant to indicate that their wearers were the main suspects. Janet wasn't revealed as the murderer until several months later, when we finally saw the scene with Janet sneaking up behind Will and killing him. That revelation was quite the shocker at the time ... no one expected it!
I think this aired in late 1991 or early 1992. I remember it being winter at the time. Kelly Ripa joined the show as Hayley in November or December 1990, but it took a while for the whole Hayley/Brian Bodine romance to develop (and go awry) before Hayley married Will on the rebound. Despite the number of AMC fan websites that document the events in Pine Valley, it's surprisingly difficult to date exactly when certain events and scenes actually aired.
Thanks, @@SuperMarioBrosIII . Of course Kelly Ripa was older than the character she played - that's almost always the case in Hollyweird! 🤪 Hayley was supposed to have been 16 when she joined the show, and about 18 when this storyline happened, I remember now. It was a pretty mesmerizing storyline at the time, and set up a good murder mystery with good old Janet Green, and everyone and their brother wearing trenchcoats. Kate Collins was a riot to watch as Bad Janet!
@DrKeithTaylor That just occurred to me too. But I guess in that state, you aren't thinking clearly. Or maybe she was and figured that he would do the same thing--pick up the phone and act completely calm.

James Patrick such a great actor!☺️
19 year old kelly ripa was sooo young. She deserved an emmy for this role
She wasn't 19. Do the math, come on now. She was 21
This is a very powerful scene. It brought back frightening memories of my childhood but it was incredible and a wonderful testament to the incredible acting
Will Cortlandt was the ultimate bad guy and one of my favorite characters next to Adam Chandler.
Ooooh the Who Killed Will story! An AMC classic :)
It was amazing!
So this is Valentine Cassidine. On General Hospital
Evan Mosley no
Well both are James Patrick Stuart.
Yes, he played both characters.
Evan Mosley yes he was good as Will Courtland
Evan Mosley I said the same thing

Too bad Janet didn't get there sooner with the crow bar...
he looks better today than he looks in these clips. He hasn't aged at all
Oddly enough when Dixie and Will came to town, Dixie (played by Kari Gibson) and Will (played by Lonnie Quinn) had reversed roles. Dixie was the manipulator and Will wasn't.
Thanks for confirming that. I knew that Dixie wasn't played by the Same Actress/Actor.
I actually liked the original Will and Dixie better. They seemed REALLY country - LOL! This Will seemed "too city".
@@fwdthinker Yeah. I’m not sure why they recast Will. I can see Dixie, but not him.

Ive never seen kelly ripa THIS YOUNG i knew she started young on this show but woww this scene especially
One of my favorite storylines.

Will: Did you mean it?
Hailey: Sure.
ROFL!
Hayley looks so pretty here! I think it's her fuller face.

Will deserved everything he got in SPADES. Loved how Hayley made him sing sporano by nailing him in the family jewels!

Lol, James Patrick Steward was reading those cue cards in almost every frame.
I don't get that

The best murder storyline ever on daytime or nighttime! Will relationship with Dixie became creepy.😘🤔
I never thought I would see this! The start of the famous "who killed will cortlandt" storyline! Wish I could see all of it.

@theagelesswonder ... the actor playing Will in this scene is James Patrick Stuart.
He is on g.h now
This is what makes me mad, they change will, he was a sweet guy, but he wanted too much money and control of his family business
i didn’t remember that that Valentine was on AMC
The actor has been on a few episodes of The Closer, playing a deputy DA.
Good actor!
He has also been making cameos on 90210 as one of the new teens Dad
The new 90210
Dang, this is as suspensful as it was when watching it for the first time back in the day.
It is obvious that Will's drinking caused him to behave like this. Remember he was not like this before.
Oh yes he was ,he change before this when he lost his position at his job

allthatjazzspaz95 lol you smokeing drugs right?
Both acting is really good
So many women in Pine Valley were raped. Nathalie Chandler, Haley Cortlandt, Bianca Montgomery, Ruth Martin, Julia Santos. Heartbreaking.
I believe Brooke was too.
Let's not forget Springfield on Guiding Light. Holly, Beth, Lucy, Olivia.

She has a phone in the room she is in but dont call the police r dial 911..lol..the writers of AMC was playing with the viewers intelligence

Why does Will need Hayley's money to get her sister back? Who's his sister?
