I would like to see Brent from PFI team up with Richard on this and take a stock K24 to the moon!
I second that
Yes!!! Make it happen lol
Yes!!! Brent is such a cool guy too, would be a good collab
Amazing idea. Brent has all the cam timing experience to really make that a good test. I bet it would do over 700
I literally just commented that and then saw yours 3 down grate idea
This man never sleeps. I am also grateful for all of the knowledge. Make that Patreon!
Brent from PFI speed knows how to really set up the vvt and vtec on a Honda k series. He is very good at setting up these things others have some issues with. Give him a call for some added knowledge on getting the Big Bang k series done right. 🤙🏻
Brent is a genius! And so positive!
@Optical Clarity way early, puts you in vtec in normal driving sometimes. Good for the dyno but not so good on the street.
Agree
Brent's the man! He's usually always cleaning up the power band. I'm sure if you asked him, he'd tune for streetabity. He's usually tuning cars that frequent the drag strip.
Yeah so... I know you just want a youtube collaboration, but it is extremely easy to bracket cam angles and find what it likes, that doesnt' make him a wizard.
As for vtec, you set it low, you set it high, you place it where at the point where both torque curves cross...
These might be the most informative modern performance videos on RUclips
Do it! I have a stock K24 in my garage just waiting for a project. I thought if the motor in my C6 vette goes I would put a K24 turbo in it. It would be a blast!
Yes. Big bang K24. Especially for more than one run. I would love to see how many dyno pulls it can take at 600 crank horse.
watch boostedboiz :D
There's been 100+ stock k20/k24 600whp setups over the years that last indefinitely, get daily driven, tracked .. etc. He'd wear out the dyno before that thing blew up
Just got to make sure to take care of pump
How to:
Make a Honda get 5mpg
@@fastinradfordable more like v8 lol
K series is the LS of the Honda world. Even without a turbo its a great combo with a lightweight Honda. Very interested to see a big bang test!
Just here for the “Brent from PFI” comments 🤣😂
@@alexpatterson5973 nothing against him but much better tuners out there besides him
Exactly. He's just known to these guys because they all watch cleetus and jeremy and therefore see brent tune a honda and immediately think he's a wizard.
Nothing against him at all, but the things he's doing are just what you do when you tune k series...
@@stephenpourciau8155 I think it's more because he is a likeable guy. He always has a smile on his face and has a great attitude and work ethic.
@@barrettbuilt who is the best tuner out there?

At this point I want to see a big bang of almost every motor!
YES! Big Bang stock with ring gap and all the boost!
Looking forward to see big bang k24. Should get Bret with PFI speed involved. That would make it even better.
For what? I love them guys but for what....
Why do people always want youtubers to associate with other youtubers? If you want to watch that Bret dude, go watch him. In what way would he have benefited this? Just because he's a Honda Fanboy?
Clearly everyone else would love to see Brent @pfispeed in on a k series big bang. Count me in on that list.
Boosted boiz running 1000hp k24's all day, BIG BANG THE WORLD!
Not stock at all. Look at the MR2, Hondaru and the Rowdyssey, all fully built K's.
@@MafiaboysWorld And they are always breaking stuff.
I watch tons of these and don't comment, but I must put in my vote for the big bang K24.
I love how You (like myself) are just a true car guy and love all kinds of motors!! I was a SBC guy until I was 14 when I drove a Toyota Mr2 turbo and finally understood imports are badass too. The K series is awesome though I used to have a built B18c1 in my GSR (also owned a 383 Trans Am ws6)..both fun car at different ends of the spectrum but THANK YOU FOR THESE FREE VIDEOS BROTHER!!
Nick Barnes
Well said 👍🏻👍🏻
all motors are good
These k series motors are awesome, glad there is starting to be some options to put these in a rwd setup
Wish I could give this video more than 1 thumb up. More K-series videos PLEASE!
This is awesome! best channel if you love all engines. He is not biased to any engine it’s a breath of fresh air👌🏼
I love your channel. Stumbled here learning about ford and chevy v8's. Then seeing the honda stuff makes me a fan for life
Thanks for taking the time to upload this stuff.. great content. And.. I noticed that you were wearing ear muffs.. good call. I have hearing issues from too many loud air tools, uncorked headers etc. It’s frustrating and embarrassing to not be able to keep in the conversation due to my foolishness over the years when it’s easy to avoid. So thanks, and people, take note and follow Richard’s lead and sensible precautions.
Yeah do a big bang k24!
Do it! Waiting anxiously in Brazil! There are a lot of 2008 Civic Si K20 around here, they always say over 500hp it need forged internals, would be really nice to see it for real! Thanks for everything!
Yes!!! It’ll be awesome to see a Big Bang k-series!!!
Very much yes! Big Bang a bunch of common 4 cylinders!
The gm 2.2 ecotec and ford/Mazda mzr. They are piling up in scrap yards and you can buy cars that drive with them for next to nothing. The regular gm engines have sand cast heads that start to erode once the boost gets to high and the stock rods will buckle at about 350ft lbs according to GMs testing... A 2.0l turbo out of a Saab or cobalt ss on the other hand
Thanks for doing the k! Such a great stock motor with boost. Should get with PFI Speec and the boostedboiz for a built k24.
They are the king of bangs.
Those Honda K series are really awesome little engines. I would love to seen a Big Bang K20 or K24. I wouldn't be surprised to see over a 1000 with ported head, cams, race gas and water to air intercooler. I bet it will get close too or over 1100 before it pops. Awesome video. Thanks for all the great content and please keep it coming!!
thnx-always fun
Absolutely! Please to a K-series Big Bang!
Engine Analyser works out critical engine loads and red circles that based on rods gudgeon pin, sectional area and piston and crank composition. Honda cranks ( the crankshafts not the people, lol) are frequently tuftrided so the conrods can operate with reduced pin and rod journal sizes. Length of rod to stroke is on the lower end too. Soooooo....its wrist pin quality and rod cross sectional area. The avoidance of lean fuel and heavy detonation will normally look after pistons. And the adjusted RH Pist Rin Gap. Great info. Hondas engine plants, from Japan to Maryland, normally have the same metal specification and safety factors. When the Dust Up Bust Up happens, its often rods.
would love to see it
Run with it. I love the k series. Plumb its depths.
Yesssse, big bang k24. And maybe do a 1jz vs 2jz big bang. I've always heard the one Jay has stronger rods cuz they're shorter so it can make more power in theory but it has half a litre left displacement the 2J can you mythbusters this?
Love channel watch new vids everyday on my break
I still like the vg30s they never got much love but right now there is a guy that has ran an 8.97 in a 300zx with one out of a maxima. He claims stock long block and gaskets, and that's crazy fast if it the case.
Jeremy over at FasterProms is tuning his K24 swapped SmartKar on E85.
K Smarts are awesome
Awesome! Just the content I asked for and you delivered thank you Rich! From my experience that aermotive 340 pump is your limiting factor you might want to switch to a Walbro 450 and also the injector obviously you know that. But if you are shooting for 1000 horse you have to feed the beast with some 2150cc injector!
@@dj4monie You can make 500 horsepower on 93 octane on these things. It's been done more than once. 500 is right around the limit of what it'll make on pump gas though, most setups end up at 450-500 on pump and then literally whatever you want on e85..
Now put a RSX type s oil pump on it and a K20 head and you'll be even more surprised! Been waiting for this one for a while. Also Richard where are you guys at? And you offer dyno services to the public would definitely be interested in bringing my car up!! 🙏 And what happened to the Sparks ending?
they are east of LA near Fontana
Westech is in Mira Loma
Yes def do one . The issue with k series is the last digit prefix matters . I have a k24a1 on pump fuel and 20psi lasted 3 months at 11.5deg/11.0afr and broke the piston at the gudgeon .
K24a2 however has been known to take 600plus and big rpm.
I would love for you test the k24a1 bottom end (crv) .
Do it ASAP!!! I beg you, please do pump fuel and e85.
Please big bang one of these. Get the Boosted Boiz/PFI Speed involved! Great guys, and have lots of Honda experience!
Love the stuff they do
Watch the boosted boys ... the Honda ruodyssey awd k swapped and big boost plus awd
i do-they do good stuff
What a little beast. Definitely keentosee a big bang on this platform!
I've seen a k20 a2 make 600whp on a stock bottom end with e85
K24 is great if you're going for all motor, but in the case of boost you want the k20 for the better rod to stroke ratio, it lets you take advantage of more rpm, it's not hp that kills these factory bottom ends its torque. Plus thicker cylinder walls for a better head gasket seal 86mm vs 87mm bore of the k24
If you're going to Big Bang a k series get a k20a series
agreed-torque is what hurts them-rod/stroke ratio not a factor (except longer rods tend to be weaker)
GREAT video!!!! I shared it with about 20 ppl lol. Thank you so much for making it. Please make a Big Bang K24 video soon.
thnx for the share
I approve this video
Yes yes yes!!!! Big bang k24 for sure
My 2002 Mazda Miata with a k24a turbo on e85 put down 429 hp. Glad I sold it, almost killed myself multiple times in it.
I was considering a K24 swap on an MR2..... I didn't realize how capable these are. I'm more of an LS guy, but these are neat little motors.
Just finished mine with a Precision 5858. Lots of fun so far.
Took notes on the whole ring gap thing 😎👌 thanks
Please do more 4 cylinder engines.
110% keen for a big bang K24 Richard.
How you American guys manage to make so much horsepower on such small injectors is perplexing.
General rule that works pretty accurately here in Australia is 100hp per 1000cc on e85.
at a .5 BSFC-it take .5 pounds of fuel to make 1 hp, so every pound of fuel is 2 hp. 100-pound injector can make 200 hp (many good NA motors can do better than .5 BSFC) Boosted is less
I'm sure Alex Pagan could tell you exactly what a stock k24 can handle 👌
Just picked up a k24 accord coupe soon it will see boost this made me motivated
Would love to see what some of these popular import motors can take in a big bang series. K24 would be a perfect starting point
Wow k24s make some jam. I had an SR20 2L turbo with a 66mm turbo running 22psi of boost and that only made 300hp at the wheels and I ended up snapping the crank at the drags.
Aftermarket intake with double fuel rail will help a lot. Before the big bang you should run a few tests with hondata and the vtec tuning. Vtec makes a huge difference with the power curve.
we did tuning on the cams
@@richardholdener1727 I'm sure you did. I was saying a video showing before and after vtec optimization showing the gains you can achieve from doing so. I've seen some crazy gains on other Dyno videos showing low speed torque gains and high speed up gains and the blending of the cams to get a desired output.
Dont need 2 ramps. 2000cc inyector is good for a 1000hp or more
Genuinely excited for the K series stuff
It would be cool just to see exactly how much these K series motors can handle stock......but to be honest with u ..... 500hp on a stock engine is perfect for me..... I always thought it would throw a rod but this is a very interesting series ....i love watching these videos great job on a great video
Bring on the Big Bang!!!
I'd like to see a bone stock one with more ring gap
No porting no upgrading
Just bone stock with more ring gap
love to see it too !
It's been done, it lifts the head around 7-800 horsepower 27-30 lbs of boost out of a properly sized turbo
It would be fun to see Volvo redblock testing, like B23 vs B230.
I'm learning a lot in this channel.
Thanks 👍
HELL. YES. We all know K24s & K20s are stout but nobody REALLY has a solid answer for the parts limit.
Its hard because you can sometimes get slightly different rods out of supposedly unopened motors maby updated designs over the years say 2 different k24a2's have been known to have very minor differences
But i relly wanna see
Man, I love this channel. I have a BBC, a SBF, and a Civic. All are well represented here, thanks for variety!
Glad you like them!
@@richardholdener1727 definitely throwing a turbski on the BBC because of your tests!

And goes nose up while doing it :)
There are two in amarillo that have Oldsmobile toronado 455 drivetrains stuffed in the back.
Can’t beat em all . That Camaro surely was over 1200+hp I’m gonna guess
Looking forward to this 👍

me
Thats all part of the fun.

@@joeyriveira6697 yeah way less to clean up but way more likely to explode. Good point you had cleaning up after a honda spills its guts isnt such a big deal. Not alot of mess it can make with so few things to it.
K24 Big Bang test would be awesome. Also to compare up the ladder with all the other Big Bang test. Maybe post results of all the other Big Bang tests as well at the end of the video?
Do it Richard. I’ve been wanting to put one of these in my xr4ti. They are lighter and make more power easily than the old 2.3 Lima lump.
yes it would-love me some XR4Ti
K24 owner (x2).
You will not be able to run the K24 stock bottom end (safely) at 1000HP but I'd love to see it.
Boosted Boys (who run with PFI Speed) blew their twin-turbo 1000HP K24 up, as expected.
BigBang for sure
YES YES YES lets see what it'll do
I cannot wait for my k24 to be on the dyno now !
Don't forget an oil pump and balance shaft delete. Ported head, cams, correctly tuned aftermarket intake, throttle body, tuned header and correctly sized turbo, A2W, headgasket, studs and enough fuel, I think it'll do it(on an engine dyno). Just gotta keep the torque low and power/boost curve up in the higher RPM.
I don't care for these engines but I was definitely impressed with 500+ HP at the wheel on what was it 16-17 psi and would be interested in the big bang series on this.
I'm intrigued.
Head studs on K24 is essential.
I’m in for anything Big Bang!
This seems like a powerful little engine...wouldn’t surprise me a bit if it made 900 or 1000 before the excitement happens!
K20a head on the k24a has to be tried too of course. And then the ultimate limit k24a with all the fruit bottom end stroked alloy rods , and see if you can get 60 -80 psi+ and 2000 hp
that's big $-I'm more junkyard
Richard Holdener I would then just try the k20a head and leave the bottom end alone. And wind up the boost until it does nothing more
Yesssss id love to see a Big Bang k24.
I really wish someone would run a test like this on the k24a4 accord motor. I would love to see them side by side (A2 vs A4). Same turbo / boost pressure etc.. and see the difference. They are MUCH cheaper than a k24A2. The main difference is 200 HP vs 160. The accord has no vtec on the EX side and a 25 degree I vtec on the intake side that engages at 2500 RPM ish. It's designed for grunt not high RPM HP however - I feel a GT35 or even a GT45 would work really well on this setup.
if it starts out making less na-it will make less at every psi of boost
Richard, just do some research as to which k24 has the biggest rods.
I believe the 06-08 K24a2 from the Tsx has the beefiest rods. Not 100% though. Good luck and thanks for all the videos 👍
So I’m this dyno you had it ring gapped
this is honda engineering for you... stock 10 year old engine with all of the miles on it taken right out of the good ol grocery getter making 500hp reliably with no upgrades
K24 are not typically in the grocery getters, but your point is still valid
@@isaiahmanley6295 sure they are. Base model accords and acuras. Honda elements and crvs. Whats more grocery getter than that.
@@andersonmorgan760 different models of k24s the k24a8 in accords is a weak engine the connecting rods are very thin

Love the information man. All of your stuff has maret!
Can we get a remake? Just because why not? I’ll watch it & many others will because it’s your content. As well for the other series of Honda engines such as D, H, B, J, L. As well as some BMW engines.
A “Big Bang” would be epic! I’m all for delving into what any engine can do. Those were some great numbers out of a stock K24. Let’s see where it can go.
Hell yeah, make a big bang one. Can't wait to see it. Im going to say 800whp
K20a2, k20z1, k20z3 and k24a2. Stock head and cams. Upgrade springs retainers and open up ring gap. Do it
not stock heads and cams
Keep up the great videos! I’d be interested to see a H22 (2.0) test. A TWR Jaguar V-12 would be awesome too!
Rods can be broken, look at John Doc’s Balcksheep after he fixed his valve spring problem! Folded up a very strong aftermarket steel rod, at something like 38 psi boost. If I remember, he had 2080 hp on a hub dyno at 25 psi, so that 427 LS was making some power when it blew! It would be very interesting to see how far you can go with the K24.
That 427 LS with a single large turbo was pushing a G-body to 4.30 in the 1/8th, about 6.75 in the quarter. Serious power...
Big bang would be cool. For durability, have it sit at wide open for 30 seconds at peak torque. If the roods are weak, that will let you find out ;)
manitoublack
Exactly...
It’s not how much hp...it’s at what torque will it break.
I posted my prediction at 550 lb ft
More chassis dyno would be great.
Lol Civic boosted wisper mode ! Maybe you could market that exhaust setup? Priceless
Would be really cool to see how much one could make before it let's go. I'm sure you would get a lot of interest from the Honda guys out there
Absolutely Big Bang a k24
I think we defiantly have to do a big bang on a k24! They are great motor's and i sure would like to see there bottom end limit.
I've always half wondered how hard it would be to take an early 90's four door Civic, the K24 and AWD drivetrain from an Element, and put them together. Mid 400's at the tire in a stock looking, crappy sounding Civic would be an amazing little sleeper for streetlight trolling
That power band is beautiful
Cams, Springs, Port the head, intake, 8 injectors, head studs... same treatment you would do to a LS or a Modular ford... good luck with the head gasket over 25 psi!
Especially springs and head studs
My guess It might be possible to push it more on an engine dyno with more control around 800hp at the flywheel. RH's got this!
i'm thinking 850-900HP to the crank
When you says it's a k24a, I assume it's a k24a2. The intake looks to be from an a2. If you were going to do a big bang test I would really like to see it happen with the a1 variant that is stock in accords and cr_vs that only makes 160hp. They are almost free and as they come from grocery getters they usually aren't whipped to death. There is also ten times as many is salvage yards than the a2 version because of how popular the twin vtec engine is as a swap.
Your also getting close to how much power this turbo can make. Turbonetics rates this fan for up to 625hp and e85 and the relatively high compression will make sure you will get all of it, but there isn't too much room left. Your right about the injectors being too small as well. The duty cycle must have been over 95%
I like those too-but it take a lot more boost to reach a reasonable power number
A Honda big bang would be great, just to see how much this amazing engine can take!
K24S are beast do a big bang for sure
