Thank you for a) showing the automated track mute recording process + b) throwing together the muted parts with others for a quick song sketch. This helped me 💯times more than what other RUclipsrs did - just by explaining the menue otions and steps clearly and with no fuss. You are great at what you do, Conan
Hey Conan I just wanted to say thanks so much for all your videos... after making beats with keyboard and mouse since the early 90s I at last took the plunge and bought an MPC One plus and I have been watching a lot of your content to get tips & tricks & tutorials... I have spent more time looking at you in the past 2 weeks than I have my wife, kids and the dog! Anyway, just a quick thank you as I actually made my first (dodgy) beat today! I sent it to Duck & another mate only as it's not fit for general consumption but I can see myself on a DAWless path now, mainly thanks to you! Peace out! 👊
This is exactly what I was just thinking about. I messed around the grid arranger and it was a nightmare to arrange. This way is so much faster and makes way more sense! It would be even faster with different track mutes across sequences like the old way so hopefully we can see some refining soon! Thanks man 🙏
You're alway great man! Thanks a lot, I'm just trying to find which workflow properly works for me. If just using the arranger in an unique sequence or also using different sequences for a sketch! I follow you here, on FB and IG, you are always clear, helpful and I really like your humility!
Thanks man, that means a lot. It’s good that you even consider trying different things out to see which works best for you. A lot of people stick to their ways, often to their detriment.
Great tutorial as always👍 Creating a song from track mutes is definitely the way to go as IMO it gives the song a much more natural feel if you are recording the mutes live, & could even lead to a few happy accidents that could help the tune be even more special.
Exactly mate. I like doing it like that because I’ve been a DJ for so long. I get into the groove and drop out the parts in the places I feel are right. As if I was playing to a dance floor.
@@TheCratesMotel actually mute track still acts wonky af. it keeps in mistake mutes and unmutes all over the place. sometimes deleting events when i copy sequences. when i saw you do it it seemed fine but trying to do a third copy of a sequence to mute ruins it. idk whats up
@@bj2mill Yeh that’s weird man. I mean honestly, I’ve had no issues with it at all, even with some pretty intense arrangements, but it seems a lot of people are having issues. We should all have the same machines and same firmware so it makes no sense.
I have to admit I have been mostly using 2.15 (now 2.15.1) because it doesn’t break my workflow. I have no guarantee Akai will fix the Song mode / Track mute issues. Still testing the beta though. If I make something I like in the beta, I transcribe in 2.15 so I don’t loose it. I never made it to using the arranger. I need to get something to that point and try it.
Hey mate. No that doesn’t happen to me. I just double checked for you, to be sure. If I record a mute in one sequence it does not affect my other sequences at all.
Thanks! Another great video. I send my tracks to different sub groups/mix (kick SUB1, Snares SUB2 etc) and the track mutes did not work for me at all. Have you noticed the same issues when routing audio through submixes?
Need some help I got all my sequences in song mode intro, verses and hooks etc so when I’m in song mode I export my song into a folder but when I uploaded it into my daw all my stems are there but it’s messing my intro which is my first 8bars but I also have the intro playing again at the end of the song but tht does show up in my stems so in the same intro stem which is in a wav format it doesn’t show up in the wav form for the first 8 only at the end of the song where I also put it at! All other stems are there and lined up just right so should add a ghost sequence for 1bar before the intro then export the song? Not sure why it’s not showing up for me I have the song exporting from bar 1 to the end of the song at bar 80
a quick Q pls. How do you then convert all that (full length sequence with drops and some extra notes here there) into a single stereo WAV/MP3 beat to share on social media? when I export from the Song mode it just exports the loops. am I wrong? thank you very much
You need to convert it back into a Single Sequence. On the Song Mode page you will see Convert>SEQ at the bottom of the page. Convert it to a single sequence and you can export the whole sequence.
@@tjmanou6422 Open your save window. On the bottom row is Audio Mixdown. Make Sure Stereo Output is checked. Choose File Format, bit depth etc. Export. Done.
Nice video. How do we delete track mute automation in the arranger? I think the update is cool. Once it’s refined in future updates I think it will be solid. That solo mute thing is weird has to be a bug.
I haven’t actually checked this, but a mute automation is just MIDI, so if you go to List at the top left in Arranger you can probably delete it there.
with automation for multi pads, you need to put all the pads you want to mute into a mute group, then the automation will work with multi pads, rather than soloing and trying to automate that way, there is a few things which seem bugged.
Yes I actually did a section on Groups but there was something wrong with the audio so I cut it out. It would still be good to be able to automate Pad Solo though. It would save the whole groups thing.
To be honest dude, you’re not the first person to bring this to my attention. I’m happy spreading the knowledge. If he takes that knowledge and spreads it, it’s still spreading the knowledge. There’s no point in stressing about it.
Can somebody tell me why whatever I change in my second sequence is affecting the first? I'm trying to make a beat repeat intro and it's pissing me off
Hey mate, could you add a bit more detail? Better still, if you use Facebook, swing by Akai MPC Tutorials and ask the question there and somebody will help. facebook.com/groups/akaimpctutorials
oh man, being able to just use the timestamp to set the mute automation precisely was something i never knew was a thing. great tip

Great video thanks. As an aside: there's a new button on the grid mode "Follow Q-Links". Any idea what that does? I'm stumped

When I do my track mutes like you did them, it does the same automation for all sequences. Are you having the same issue?

@@TheCratesMotel Me neither.
If you did the automation, then copied the sequence, I believe the automation copies with it so maybe that's your issue?

about the pad solo bug, why dont you just put everything else in a track mute group except the one you want playing solo?
Yes of course mate, I can do that, but my point was that Pad Solo is not recordable. There’s always a workaround obviously.
