I'd liked him better when he called trump a moron. Now he says he's honored by a rapist. That's flip flop Rubio. When a person can do a 180, he's not trustworthy.
One of Trump's most powerful skills is convincing those who are against him that he's 'nuts' and 'doesn't know what he's doing'. Rubio as Secretary of State has immediately been downplayed by many as a 'crazy' move. We shall see.
Yesterday, secretary of state Anthony Blinken has announced US recognition of Edmundo González Urrutia as the legitimate winner of the venezuelan presidential elections that occurred in July 28th therefore Nicolas Maduro has to step down in January 10th 2025.
I mean, I doubt Madurro will step down. He's hardly the only leader in the world the US views as illegitimate. And he hasn't (that I have seen) had much interest in stepping down or providing the voting data his opponents demanded.
As the son of a Venezuelan immigrant living in the United States, the idea of America finally intervening in Latin America in regards to the despotic rulers settled there excites me. However, I do not align myself with Donald Trump or the G.O.P in general, so as much as I may be for some of the interventionism that comes with Marco Rubio, it's still just embarrasing that Donald Trump will be our president again.
I honestly don´t know if dismantling those regimes will actually help anyone. I am old enough to remember what Lybia looked like under Gaddafi. A dictatorship no doubt, but one with mostly functioning healthcare, beraucracy and infrastructure. Today, it is a war-torn country where slaves are being sold in the marketplace. Unless there is a well-respected opposition to take over after the dictator, the most likely outcome is a civil war. As for Latin America, the US already tried to coup Venezuela once and they had to back off after they realized that their chosen candidate Juan Guaido had no real support in the country. Putting that person in power by force would have been a disaster, and would probably set the US up for another Afghanistan style failure.
You give the people what they want and that’s what they wanted to sell eachother as slaves there you go just like Afghanistan and Iraq this is what they’ve chosen a dictator can only hold back the will of people for so long
Eh, the functioning healthcare and infrastructure is actually false. I happen to know A LOT about Libya under Gaddadi, because under him a dozen Bulgarian nurses were wrongfully accused of deliberately infecting hundreds of babies with AIDS (obviously bogus charges). Gaddafi would severely punish his own people, if anyone in their midst dare to oppose him. That’s what essentially happened to Benghazi - he cut off all government support of social services as a collective punishment. No trash collection, mass poverty (despite Libya being rich), hospitals falling apart, people dying of basic diseases, doctors reusing needles, no gloves or medicine - a total horror show. It was only “good” if you were in his graces. But that was tough too, because he was emotionally unstable and you never knew what could set him off. Yes, Libya got WORSE, but his erratic and tyrannical behavior was key to making it all worse. He COULD have turned Libya into an Oman, but that’s not how tyrants such as him operate. With or without US intervention, he was going to get the bullet sooner or later - he had made too many enemies among his own people. I’m not saying that the US didn’t have an impact here, but I see this false narrative being pushed way too often - the idea that as bad as the likes of Qaddafi and Saddam were, it was better under their leadership. Well…better for some. There’s a reason these countries are so unstable - such regimes just don’t last. Arabs are no North Koreans. They will eventually revolt.
