Fun fact: I used to play this game years ago when it was still in paid access but I got banned and my account got wiped because I refused to call a moderator "sir" in discord
fun fact: the devs went on a power trip and banned the largest group of players from the only official faction and threatened them with game bans all because they criticized the poor choices made by the devs when it came to community management and game direction. they then had people sell out to spy and leak discord messages to the NW staff. their reasoning was because they thought they would "hack and Dupe" to try to disrupt the game, none of those accusations were even remotely true as at that point 90% of that group had stopped playing the game due to the games direction going down such a horrible path. as of writing this the NW staff are going on a huge "big brother knows best" power trip where whenever they ban a player or make a shitty Decision their reasoning is "the regime knows best" i shit you not, that's it, no other explanation. also the games current developers actually bought out the game about a year ago from the previous devs (the devs that made 95% of the game) and have drove the game into the ground by essentially doing nothing but make horrible Decision after horrible Decision. there's hundreds or more shitty things the devs have done but it would take hours to get into it all. so if any other NW players want to add to this feel free to. TLDR: the game devs are horrible people who cant take ANY criticism and go on power trips when anyone even opposes them, the game was prospering until it was boughten out by the new devs and was promptly drove into the ground due to horrible community management and game direction. By the way, nearly none of the good parts of the game were made by the current developers. This game was originally made by fred as a passion project, and it was a bloody masterpiece. Over time, the game fell off since fred lost interest in the project, leading to him getting some of the "contractors" (i dont know if thats the right term, but friends of fred that knew how to code) that were active to make the updates and upkeep the game. It all went downhill from there. After much drama, pain and horrendous decisions that ruined the game, fred decided it was time to sell northwind. He sold it to the current owner, ryez. Ryez knew basically next to nothing about northwind, and after he took over northwind (and even before, with some very bad decisions that were made by the previous devs), the game's goal was no longer to be a passion filled fun experience, it was now a money printer, designed to reel in as many players as possible, to keep them in the game as long as possible and extract robux out of them. However since this game was very special, ryez did not know what course of action to take to correctly make it a money printer, meaning every decision he made essencially removed what was good about the game to turn it into a simulator. The game has been getting slightly better over time, after much backlash, but it will never be the same. Also one of the previous associates of the game was a predo.
Northwind was a hidden gem when it was in paid access. The economy was fresh, everything was too new for there to be an established meta. They really went head-first with the release, it was massively overblown. You can't add so many aspects to game while taking away what fundamentally made it enjoyable to begin with. They designed it to be like an MMO on public release and it completely backfired. Current playercounts are actually *less* than what they were when the game costed 800R$.
As someone who's been a part of this community for a while, I thought I'd share a couple things. 1) Barrier of Entry: The barrier of entry for this game is INCREDIBLY high for sure. It takes a lot of grinding to get far in any of the professions and a lot of the fun pvp is locked behind factions that require discord to join and play with. But, for those willing to invest the time to get into the game, the faction PVP in Northwind can be some of the most fun you can have on Roblox (this in no way justifies the horrible tutorial at the start though). 2) Core playerbase: The core playerbase for the game includes A LOT of people from this game's predecessor: The Northern Frontier. In fact, the original project name for Northwind was "The Northern Frontier Redux". These players are super competitive and the old TNF community can get very toxic at times (and by very, I mean VERY). However, the people who joined during Northwind are a lot more chill (albeit pretty larpy which can get annoying at times). 3) Dev Team: The current dev team isn't the team that created the core parts of the gameplay. You can thank Fred (one of The Northern Frontier's co-owners) and his dev team for a lot of the game's core mechanics. The current owner, Ryez, can go on some pretty big power trips and is known for purchasing games, making money off them, and then abandoning them. He even used the game's core codebase to make another game, "Bellum Imperii", that died pretty quick because it was just a worse Northwind set in the Roman period (And 3 players got perm banned from the discord and game for calling it bad while in VC with the owner I'm pretty sure). The dev team has also repeatedly wiped pounds (the main currency of the game) to keep the economy in check which makes a lot of people mad. Most recently, a roblox update broke the game allowing people to get infinite pounds from contracts, forcing the dev team to wipe EVERYONE to zero pounds (The devs blamed roblox, but if your game is coded in such a way that one roblox update breaks it this bad, then there's something wrong). People who complained about this got banned from the discord en masse. Overall, once you get past the STEEP learning curve, the game can be a lot of fun. The community can get pretty toxic at times and this genre's staff teams have notoriously awful reputations. Great video, and A LOT of the core playerbase complains about the walkspeed and sheer size of the maps, so you're not alone.
i missed the time when HBC was the big bad villain of the game, and is basically KOS. I remember ambushing a red coats collumn in the starting town with 4 other factions, and chasing them till we reached HBC fort, that was peak gameplay
@@ShinoAsada-n2q yes the atmosphere was so fun. fighting starting on the plains of Abraham and chasing them to the twin peaks. the den contracts and dry lootings. everything about the game was so fun until it got turned into a money mule and pounds became valueless.
Oh wow, thanks Eclipse for finally reviewing this one, this video has hit a lot of nails on the head, yet one was missed, with a dramatic "AEOUUUUGH!" following because the hammer hit the finger instead, and that is regarding guns, specifically the storage problem with them. Eclipse has not noticed this, but the guns can actually be carried without having to occupy 50 units of storage space, that is if you equip them. The way that works is that the equipped items do not count towards storage amount (if I remember correctly since I myself have not played the game in a while), which means you could equip them and go about with your gameplay. I would say that is the fault of the devs, since the tutorial did not teach the player about how equipping items works. And before you ask: "why do guns weigh so much then?" That was done on purpose, to avoid people stealing lots of guns from other players and switching them mid-combat over and over again, since muskets take like, 10 seconds to load for each shot.
That sounds like something that should be said in the tutorial. Normally you would equip something but it should at least tell you it removes/lightens the encumberment penalty
Real ones will know the good days of northern frontier and how it was great being in school still, coming home to hop on and battle with your faction and topple enemies and build fortresses or base camp natives. It was so simple back then, and it was nice.
Yeah North wind is like a direct down grade to what Northern frontier is North wind is like the EA optimized version of the game While Northern frontiet is the beta release that everyone wanted
@ when north wind first released it was a fresh breather that felt open, expansive and you could explore it and still find more secrets every time you risked your loot out in the non safe zones. Now it’s just camping James bay and the simulator lookin ahh GUI fills up half your screen. These new owners and devs suck fucking cheeks.
this is why i prefer Blox Fruit - it's an amazing walking simulator, you can travel across vast oceans, explore so many detailed islands, and the journey is nothing short of a masterclass in how other games should be designed. you should check it out sometime elpisce, heck, i'd say you need to dedicate a whole week to playing this game, it's just that great!
My main problem with Northwind is that they lock simple essential items behind like, 20 hours of grinding a skill. You want to be able to craft your own weapons and clothing? 20 hours of grinding each skill, take it or leave it.
Yeah, id be find with a long grind if it wasnt so monotonous and tedious and BRAINDEAD. You just do the same thing, over, and over, and over, and over. Its not fun at all. I grinded every skill to max, it felt rewarding in the end but it was not fun.
It used to actually be way worse back in the day. You can buy a lot of these now. That's one thing that did improve but it barely scratches the surface of all the other issues.
Eclipse you should play Empire clash. It basically a kingdom roleplay of the 19th century with 4 different kingdoms. There are a lot of classes and it takes grinding to unlock all of them, but not too much if you figure out what should you do to get a lot of money. You also unlock skills for said classes and it can be either pretty peaceful or pure chaos if there is war.
Fun fact : The new owners of the game have been nonstop running it into the ground ever since they bought it from lazarus (he's a whole other can of worms but 100% not as bad as Ryez) all they seem intent on doing is turning northwind into a cashcow whilst putting in as little effort as they can. the constant admin abuse and bias against factions they don't like is at an all-time high. exploiter factions will get unbanned several times over by the moderators in "ban wipes" while they refuse to unban people from certain groups from the discord over minor infractions. they outright refuse to take any criticism, instead deciding to pin the blame on the alpha community for vocalizing their disdain for the current quality of the game, going on tirades in the chat instead of listening to anything they have to say. there was a point in time where they were hailed as the saviors of the game because before then there was a serious lack of updates for northwind and moderation was seriously mismanaged, then they dropped terrible update after terrible update and kept widely disliked admin abusing moderators like MLGPeanut and Cyberillium in power, they would consistently threaten people they didn't like over disagreeing with the way they ran the game or even just being better then them, banning them over things they had no jurisdiction over or for extremely overembellished issues. Ryez and the dev team consistently ignores the public outcry from the northwind community over the bad decisions they make either developing the game or the actions they take when they moderate, this lack of listening to the community eventually boiled over and the game now averages 190 to 200 players (was way worse before BI dropped and promptly died). this doesn't even skim the surface of the things they do and it's genuinely disappointing to see how they've bastardized this game. it used to be a seriously great game before they took over. none of the problems you've mentioned even existed before they decided to drop a multitude of updates nobody asked for and only end up degrading the quality of the game. TLDR : Ryez and the regime suck bigtime, all they do is abuse their power and turn our beloved game into a moneyprinter. also I copied bro 😎
I never understand why over-encumbered systems exist in a game, like just use limited storage slots if you REALLY want players to be limited in their items.
Such a bad take, if you could just have anything in your inventory, what stops people from just dry looting everyone mid fight and just running Also, grinding would just be incredibly easy with how you can run around a cave without needing to leave cuz you're over encumbered
What is ‘dry-looting’? Also, your point is very inadequate because there are so many games that do inventory right, such as Minecraft. A game does not need to have an encumbrance system to be ‘realistic’ or good
Horrible take wth it makes pve awfully easy removing immersion if everything you need is literally done in 1 run with legit 0 drawbacks and why complain over either of those methods when both are viable in their own way
@@daniiii888 you're carrying a fully loaded backpack usually stuffed with guns, ammunition, resources and thick clothing, no it's not realistic to run at a consistent 4 m/s pace
@@codershaper 4m/s is very slow running speed. I’ve ran with a heavy backpack multiple times before, you can definitely run faster than that. Even if it’s not realistic it’s shit game design to follow that “realism”, considering how much mindless walking you need to do.
Honestly I get what Eclipse is saying about the tutorial, though I noticed it was different from when I joined where it would drop you straight into the main hub town, which I felt made the experience better cause you had access to all the vendors from the get go. I also noticed that it seemed to strip some of the systems that the old tutorial had taught the player. Final thoughts: Needs 8 snowmen.
Not sure what you are playing, that game changed so much i remember playing 2 years ago and even a year ago and the game was very good very fun nice people it was playable but then the game started getting updates and the community dropped off and people just became tryhards. I feel that you never got the chance to actually play the game. Even so that game takes hours to actually embrace and get the experience of it, i remember being in a faction and building a giant base with some random people i met. This was on charlemagne but it was still very fun.
It used to be extremely fun when it was paid access because you got spawned into the middle of a snow filled island with death lurking at every corner - no hand holding at all. There was no tutorial and even if there was it was only one telling you how to get a job from an npc and maybe cut a few trees. After that you were free to do whatever. How you did it? The game did not care. It only made sure that it was not easy to do and that was lovely.
There's a difference between making a non-new player friendly game and making a new player hell. Deepwoken for example throws you into a cliff and let u figure how to get up yourself, but this game throws u into a cliff and then proceeds to throw rocks to you until you get up.
The game literally is a walking & hunting simulator, PVP is too risky due to the fact if you die, the other player can steal ALL your weapons, so if you lose one fight a good 50% of your inventory is gone when you respawn. Used to play this game until I got 1v6’d by some toxic dudes who stole my stuff and made fun of me
I have been playing Northwind for a few years now, and I'd say I enjoy it a lot. It's a unique game on Roblox, which makes it hard already to get new players; however, what really stops players from spending more time in the game is how confusing and difficult it is to understand what you're playing towards. Not to mention the many tedious, annoying aspects that you have to deal with that really stop new players from really experiencing what the game has to offer. As I keep playing, I realize in the "endgame" there isn't much to do other than grinding and getting rarer items, PvPing in a faction, or making your drip. Also, the community is VERY toxic. I'm not saying everyone is terrible; however, the game mechanics and money aspects make people very egotistic. The developers only focus on the existing player base instead of getting more players. Also, to really experience PvP, you have to join a faction or a group that can only really work for you if you join a Discord, which I wouldn't consider safe. Like the first time I joined a faction, I joined their Discord server through Northwind's own Discord, and people were terribly toxic and weird. On a leaving note, I feel the game has come a long way, like they have a whole faction system that you can't find in any other game. If you can find a fun group of players to play with, this game can be a gem. The market system is only centered around rare and exclusive items that new players can basically never access unless they grind their ass off. Hacking is another issue, but what game doesn't have hackers?
1:15 this is honestly the best description of my northwind experience. It was a game that I decided to try out since it got of early access. The only reason I stuck around is because I was in a bit of a phase where I really liked history between the 1600-1900. And I used to play Wild West and that game was dry so it was pretty much the next best thing. Yes I did have fun playing it but holy shit the grind was gruelling. I may share a lot of fond memories with it but I don’t play this game at all anymore.
15:01 World of Magic felt like that for me. I didnt know how to make a good build until I started getting obliterated in PvP and even in the later stages of PvE. A bit of a mess, but a fun mess. World of Magic shared some of the same problems as this game (a lot of walking required) but it felt really nice because there were different biomes a a few NPC's, sometimes even criminal NPC's, and playing as a villain was particularly fun cuz you could do a heist and then the magic council would spawn and chase you down and... im ranting, basically this game is the predescesor to Arcane Odyssey and it pretty fun.
Yeah, all the problems recited are valid and need fixing. I think the encumbered thing was meant to be fixed with a house which there is a tutorial for the lumber in the colonizer start, but then again that's no excuse.
I think most people fundimentally just dont understand these videos. To me personally, these arent full game reviews. These are to see if the starting hook of the game is good and if the game can properly hook players at the start, the most important period of a games life cycle. Which is why people are probably gonna get mad, because as he said in the video, this game seems impressive. But its starting hook is awful.
(You have to equip your weapon to not have it lose inventory space...) this tutorial is meant to meant to be very general & have less info because it is a hardcore game espescially once you reach the other islands BUT it was stupid for them to forget about bag crafting, equipping and using guns, crafting sleds, rowboats and campfire/warmth and tools for housebuilding that are CRUCIAL for progression. The tutorial was revamped recently and there weren't to many complaints because most people who play this game are the same players that have been playing for years. The devs would like to make it more convenient and have shortcuts to easily craft and fast travel but original players hate new players and complain over every change with tutorials and help for new players. My point is that the devs and community jus don't care about new players and early gameplay and don't bother to perfect the tutorials because a majority of new players will quit after the first day or two of playing. Those who stick with the game are hated by the community and get targeted and looted in the hardcore islands.
Hey Eclipse! I think you should try The Wild West. It's a game where you rob, kill, capture, occupy and mine your way into a huge economy. I think you will enjoy the combat since it's an easy to pick up Third person shooter.(It has immense amounts of grinding for the "best" weapons but you can enjoy the game even one hour in)(You can kidnap and rob people of their hard earnings)
Honestly TWW is either a long ahh grind for an auction gun or a sweaty pvp playground (if you even manage to find a server to do pvp in) Im just hoping that the progression update adds things to do so theres more in it than hunting deers and hunting players, atleast Northwind gives a good bunch of objectives with varying tasks
@toxo-zf3xp Well, there is fun to be had with the game though. And the auction guns aren't like the definite factor in a fight, you can still win with guns that are like 3 grand.
i have over 1000 hours of this game, and have awesome memories of playing it with my friends and exploring the world, this game is good, but in fact its pretty boring sometimes having to make a mission on the other side of the map and being unable to run more than 10 meters before your lose all your stamina
Hey Eclipse, recommendation comment! You should try out Ragdoll Universe it’s really fun :D. It is a fast pace chaotic shooter where you get to move real fast and the guns are all projectiles so it's like you're a buncha bouncy balls tryna shoot each other!
Ive been watching for almost 3 years now and I haven’t commented really but eclipse you are one of my favorite RUclipsrs, genuinely your content does not fail to make me laugh every time your an amazing person keep up the content man ❤
as a "veteran" of this game I can tell u that the new tutorial is pretty hard, I have over 6k hours of play time and that took me WAY too long, the combat is pretty insane tho, if u wanna see check my clip dumps (last 2 for better clips). The old tutorial was like 20 minutes long, spawned you in the city, and it was pretty clear instructions. The devs just sit on their balls all day sadly.
I'm in the SLC (northwind's main faction), but barely play the game. When TNF was about, I used to play it so much more often. I actually found it fun. I find Northwind tedious and boring, and generally speaking would agree with the guy reviewing this game as a "walking simulator"
i remember playing this game for the first time and picking native and then not knowing what was happening so i just left, fast forward few months later i find this video and find out there was a TUTORIAL....AN ACTUAL TUTORIAL THAT YOU CAN GET ONLY BY BEING A COLONIST. WHAT.
Native was only accessible by the alpha players for a long time so they didn't make a tutorial for it and when it became accessible by everyone they were too lazy and game was already dying
i might be wrong but wasn't there, a long time ago, a warning when selecting native that says it's pretty much the hardmode of the game? where'd that go if i'm remembering correctly?
^ nvm that was for the northern frontier, think i wasn't able to check on northwind's native select screen since it was paid access and i doubted that a remake of a game i didnt like would be any good
(ignoring all the comments that are calling out the team in charge of the game) i feel these issues could easily be fixed with bandaid fixes - and work, walking simulator? add horses, or something the like, add fast travel in some way, something, and before the gun making part of the quest, have players create a backpack, and with the gun making quest, instead of effectively forcing players to go back to the mines afterwards, tell them to get ores for the guns and bullets, simple work, bandaid solutions that i feel would be super super easy, and also super effective.
These have all been suggested in the discord, horses were planned but decided not to be added, boats were supposed to be added but have been in development for 4 years cause "they aren't fun" I've played roughly 4 years on and off, and I've seen a lot of really good suggestions get deleted cause the devs don't like them
a little bit before ryez took over there used to be a pretty natural way of having a game tutorial, you used to just have to figure things out one at a time and eventually you'd get a hold of the game. it was pretty simple and it really wasn't that bad until beauval dropped and ruined that aspect a bit. then ryez came in
@destroyerjake4376 well the game does have rowboats and canoes for natives which can be built but require a ton of resources like wood and alot of flax which used to be an absolute pain before to harvest since 1 plant gave 1 of its resource. you need like 12 to make a boat.... Not to mention all the extremely heavy lumber just to build a boat that goes SLIGHTLY faster than running.
I started playing this game a few years ago, you needed and I think still need to do alot of grinding to craft stuff, chop down trees etc. I never played it for more than a month before I got bored, I always returned to it after some time. But during all these years one thing never changed, the super toxic community.
Bro I played back in it’s prime when this guy Fred was pretty much a solo developer and it was amazing this was when there was only two islands and paid access and northern frontier was an inspiration
I still remember playing this games predesesor back when I was little, booting up joining a faction dark water company in the northern frontier, It was a great game in my eyes that seems to be just an outdated older version of this game which still did have colonizers and natives, I loved the gameplay and the amount of fights we had with the official faction HBC hudson bay company. blast from the past to see the newer version of the game getting reviewed.
Honestly, some of these issues could've just been solved by you equipping one of the guns + not having a bunch of stuff in your inventory. You didn't "need" to make a backpack... You just needed to equip the gun.
its unfortunate because if you get people to play with and fight, its a really solid game. but there just isnt enough to do, and you get bored of it after you do everything. i love this game with my heart, but there just isnt anything left for me to do.
I played the original version of Northwind called The Northern Frontier, despite huge difference in overall design and mechanics, the old TNF was more popular than the new Northwind, gaining thousands of players back then, however poor development decisions and ignoring the pleas of majority of the players really turned a once promising game into a dead one, I really thought the new project (Northwind) would bring back old players and hopefully, new devs that would cooperate and listen to the opinion of their players (how wrong could I've been), and unfortunate it didnt turned out that way, I was really hoping the game could still be salvage because this game has a special place in my heart because of the people I met and played with in this game, the chaotic faction wars like HBC vs Comanche, the French Empire, those popular factions with hundreds of active players you name it, it was a total war, compared to northwind now which seemed more of a village scale conflict which is not really exciting
I play this game up to this day and i have been a player of it for around a year now and i did not even know that they changed the tutorial until my friend from school started to play. The tutorial used to be easy you buy the stuff from a shop with the money they gave you, you go kill 2-3 rabbits cannot remember come back with the skinned rabbits and your done. It was very easy no clue why they changed it.
In all fairness the one thing everyone should do to truly enjoy this game is ignore the tutorial, leave the starter island and just play it like you would a sandbox.
Ngl I also.played it recently and ngl i loved the tutorial idk why but yeah since im currently in my exam period it took me 2days to finish, literally just because of the encumbrance system but that didnt annoy me cuz the games visuals were appealing enough to make the walking calming to me in a sense. But post tutorial and doing almost all the quests on the starter island, for some reason I didnt feel like playing it anymore even when im still heavily interested in it. Like ngl to me after a while, the game felt lifeless. The community felt closed for some reason and it seems they only hopped on to trade not actually grind or play the game. So i quite my goal of building a house and never touched the game again. I really hope someone makes this style of game alot better because even when i was hocked it only took like 3-4 days of me playing to lose interest
Actually walking was fun when the game had a lot more players because of the player interactions but unfortunately lack of updates caused the game to die
the first hour ive played with 2 friends we had a ton of fun exploring and progressing until weve reached what seemed to be the part where you walk around everywhere
you should try isle, its not perfect but i really like it even though its a bit of a walking simulator alot of the time, you can figure out some of the endings by yourself if you explore alot but its not really clear where the escape items are if you first play so id recommend searching some of them up
Dang, I didn't know that they changed the tutorial. The new one looks horrible. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the space isn't taken up if you equip an item (like the two guns that weighed 50 in the beginning) so that shouldn't be a problem. But I don't know I haven't played in a couple of weeks.
Trying to size a map well is a pretty big struggle for me personally so my games map is massive... its hard for me personally not to make a lot of walking... but making it bearable is like... the part that needs to happen... if a map is gonna be massive you should make some way to get around it quickly. (I also hate encumberance mechanics...)

Facts
northwind is the spiritual successor of the northern frontier, that game was gold
As someone who's been a part of this community for a while, I thought I'd share a couple things.
1) Barrier of Entry:
The barrier of entry for this game is INCREDIBLY high for sure.
2) Core playerbase:
The core playerbase for the game includes A LOT of people from this game's predecessor: The Northern Frontier. In fact, the original project name for Northwind was "The Northern Frontier Redux". These players are super competitive and the old TNF community can get very toxic at times (and by very, I mean VERY). However, the people who joined during Northwind are a lot more chill (albeit pretty larpy which can get annoying at times).
3) Dev Team:
The current dev team isn't the team that created the core parts of the gameplay.
Holy yap
i missed the time when HBC was the big bad villain of the game, and is basically KOS.

Game has snow.... Are there 8 snowmans?
Sadly no, sorry to disappoint you
The 8 snowmans have been defeated already
And before you ask: "why do guns weigh so much then?" That was done on purpose, to avoid people stealing lots of guns from other players and switching them mid-combat over and over again, since muskets take like, 10 seconds to load for each shot.
guns unload when you unequip it
That sounds like something that should be said in the tutorial. Normally you would equip something but it should at least tell you it removes/lightens the encumberment penalty
@ Oh, I forgot about that. However, carrying so many guns would still be a bad thing due to griefers prospering this way.
Real ones will know the good days of northern frontier and how it was great being in school still, coming home to hop on and battle with your faction and topple enemies and build fortresses or base camp natives. It was so simple back then, and it was nice.
Yeah North wind is like a direct down grade to what Northern frontier is
North wind is like the EA optimized version of the game
While Northern frontiet is the beta release that everyone wanted
@ when north wind first released it was a fresh breather that felt open, expansive and you could explore it and still find more secrets every time you risked your loot out in the non safe zones. Now it’s just camping James bay and the simulator lookin ahh GUI fills up half your screen. These new owners and devs suck fucking cheeks.

I grinded every skill to max, it felt rewarding in the end but it was not fun.
it used to be like that back in the day when 90% of the important tools were locked behind a grind but they changed that while ago

You also unlock skills for said classes and it can be either pretty peaceful or pure chaos if there is war.
clans ruined it
Fun fact : The new owners of the game have been nonstop running it into the ground ever since they bought it from lazarus (he's a whole other can of worms but 100% not as bad as Ryez) all they seem intent on doing is turning northwind into a cashcow whilst putting in as little effort as they can. the constant admin abuse and bias against factions they don't like is at an all-time high. exploiter factions will get unbanned several times over by the moderators in "ban wipes" while they refuse to unban people from certain groups from the discord over minor infractions. they outright refuse to take any criticism, instead deciding to pin the blame on the alpha community for vocalizing their disdain for the current quality of the game, going on tirades in the chat instead of listening to anything they have to say. there was a point in time where they were hailed as the saviors of the game because before then there was a serious lack of updates for northwind and moderation was seriously mismanaged, then they dropped terrible update after terrible update and kept widely disliked admin abusing moderators like MLGPeanut and Cyberillium in power, they would consistently threaten people they didn't like over disagreeing with the way they ran the game or even just being better then them, banning them over things they had no jurisdiction over or for extremely overembellished issues.
I guess if it’s a realistic game like Arma, it’s pretty much a balance of limited slots AND being encumbered.
Such a bad take, if you could just have anything in your inventory, what stops people from just dry looting everyone mid fight and just running
Also, grinding would just be incredibly easy with how you can run around a cave without needing to leave cuz you're over encumbered
What is ‘dry-looting’? Also, your point is very inadequate because there are so many games that do inventory right, such as Minecraft. A game does not need to have an encumbrance system to be ‘realistic’ or good
@HumpbackMeteor2-xs8rk it's when you just grab all the loot without even looking because you wouldn't need to. Kinda like a loot all button in games
Horrible take wth it makes pve awfully easy removing immersion if everything you need is literally done in 1 run with legit 0 drawbacks and why complain over either of those methods when both are viable in their own way
eclipse is gonna be surprised when the majority of the northwind playerbase is agreeing with him

Wish there were more comments talking about this game instead of “defeat 8 snowman” or something about a bowl
The moderators are weird like 99% of mods who give themself a God complex. The game itself is pretty okay just hard to play at times
ECLIPSE TALKING ABOUT NORTHWIND!?!?! The gatekeepers going to be pissed off when there’s a sudden spike in new players at beuval

I was going to try this game, but after I saw all the comments about the devs I've definitely reconsidered
Honestly TWW is either a long ahh grind for an auction gun or a sweaty pvp playground (if you even manage to find a server to do pvp in)
Im just hoping that the progression update adds things to do so theres more in it than hunting deers and hunting players, atleast Northwind gives a good bunch of objectives with varying tasks
@toxo-zf3xp Well, there is fun to be had with the game though. And the auction guns aren't like the definite factor in a fight, you can still win with guns that are like 3 grand.

i remember playing this game for the first time and picking native and then not knowing what was happening so i just left, fast forward few months later i find this video and find out there was a TUTORIAL....AN ACTUAL TUTORIAL THAT YOU CAN GET ONLY BY BEING A COLONIST. WHAT.
This is why native needs an hour lock before you can actually play it
Native was only accessible by the alpha players for a long time so they didn't make a tutorial for it and when it became accessible by everyone they were too lazy and game was already dying
i might be wrong but wasn't there, a long time ago, a warning when selecting native that says it's pretty much the hardmode of the game? where'd that go if i'm remembering correctly?
^ nvm that was for the northern frontier, think i wasn't able to check on northwind's native select screen since it was paid access and i doubted that a remake of a game i didnt like would be any good
Long live Nouvelle France Company.
These have all been suggested in the discord, horses were planned but decided not to be added, boats were supposed to be added but have been in development for 4 years cause "they aren't fun"
I've played roughly 4 years on and off, and I've seen a lot of really good suggestions get deleted cause the devs don't like them
a little bit before ryez took over there used to be a pretty natural way of having a game tutorial, you used to just have to figure things out one at a time and eventually you'd get a hold of the game. it was pretty simple and it really wasn't that bad until beauval dropped and ruined that aspect a bit. then ryez came in
@destroyerjake4376 well the game does have rowboats and canoes for natives which can be built but require a ton of resources like wood and alot of flax which used to be an absolute pain before to harvest since 1 plant gave 1 of its resource. you need like 12 to make a boat....

The tutorial you experienced is actually a new one, I remember it used to take for 1h or 2h at most to finish it :v
I remember playing this game about a year ago, picking native, getting bored, and leaving lol.
Honestly, some of these issues could've just been solved by you equipping one of the guns + not having a bunch of stuff in your inventory. You didn't "need" to make a backpack... You just needed to equip the gun.

0:49 Massive? You know what’s else is massive?
I played the original version of Northwind called The Northern Frontier, despite huge difference in overall design and mechanics, the old TNF was more popular than the new Northwind, gaining thousands of players back then, however poor development decisions and ignoring the pleas of majority of the players really turned a once promising game into a dead one, I really thought the new project (Northwind) would bring back old players and hopefully, new devs that would cooperate and listen to the opinion of their players (how wrong could I've been), and unfortunate it didnt turned out that way, I was really hoping the game could still be salvage because this game has a special place in my heart because of the people I met and played with in this game, the chaotic faction wars like HBC vs Comanche, the French Empire, those popular factions with hundreds of active players you name it, it was a total war, compared to northwind now which seemed more of a village scale conflict which is not really exciting
a lot of problems would be fixed if they added horses i think
I play this game up to this day and i have been a player of it for around a year now and i did not even know that they changed the tutorial until my friend from school started to play. The tutorial used to be easy you buy the stuff from a shop with the money they gave you, you go kill 2-3 rabbits cannot remember come back with the skinned rabbits and your done.
0:47 you know what else is massive
Actually walking was fun when the game had a lot more players because of the player interactions but unfortunately lack of updates caused the game to die
