In the summer of '86 we were living in a house with no cable and only two channels on the antenna. One of them played Alfred Hitchcock Presents and the Twilight Zone, back to back, every afternoon. It was some of the best TV I ever watched!
That is neat indeed. I remember when, I want to say Nick at Nite, starting playing Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I didn't watch it much, though. I think I expected my anthologies to be a bit more monster-centric.
@@AtomicSnackBar AHP was the less fantastic of the two. I probably wouldn't have watched it if I had the choice, but I loved the bits Hitchcock would do at the start and end of each show. He had a great sense of humor.
@@jdmcdonnell71 It's one I think I would quite enjoy now. I've actually been wanting to really dig into Hitchcock's work. I have a bluray collection on my Amazon list I've been meaning to pick up for awhile now. But, so many movies, so few donut related get rich schemes that work.
It's amazing the amount of talent that Rod Serling collected to work on his show, during a time when working on television was looked down on, and a science fiction based show to boot! The fact that many of them came back for multiple episodes speaks volumes about the quality of the Twilight Zone.
That is very true and an interesting point. I still feel that sci-fi doesn't get the respect it deserves. So I can only imagine how it was not only for a fan back then, but also an artist creating works of sci-fi. Once again, great to hear from you, Raul. You should really start covering sci-fi topics on your channel as well. I think you would excel at it.
Just a testament to just how good and groundbreaking a show it really was. I can think of very few others to hit that level. Star Trek TOS. Batman '66 to a lesser degree. Not many.
This is my cue to tell a bizarre story. In 2002, I was on a jury hearing a murder case. The defense lawyer didn’t have anything really good to go on, so he tried to convince the jury that we were witnessing an episode of the Twilight Zone. You might think that was the worst defense ever presented in court, but we went into the jury room and deliberated for 40 minutes, then acquitted. No, not because of the brilliant defense, but because the prosecution’s case was even worse.
That is ... well, it's something. Something amazing. That could almost be an episode of the Twilight Zone itself. Much like the opening from the 80s film, only even more self-referential. But that's a really amusing story. Thanks for sharing, Fred.
A STELLAR commentary Mr S. The Twilight Zone easily ranks up in my top ten mystery fiction and way to go WACKY shows of my lifetime. Just the quality of it's casting had it sewn up as a classic from the very start. A humble HUGE THANKS for the trip back down a fascinating memory lane. Be blessed all here. TTFN.
Well said, Sir Tater of Taterly Manor. Twilight Zone did have some dynamite castings. A who's who of genre favorites and those that would go on to become genre favorites. Good to see you break through the comments this early and hopefully on your first try.
@ TheCommonGardenTater - Yo! Yo! Yo! Tates is in the hizzleeeee! Was that cringe enough for you? Good to you sprung from the Comments priz. And I hope you've settled in to your new flat. Chandu to you, my friend!
@@tonysantiago255 Bon Bon Sr Santiago. Yes, the tater has moved in, but as usual, the "getting it done blues" are playing loud. Yep, good to be out of YT's purgatory. Have a great one TS, speak soon.
A true great. I've been trying to think about my favorite Corman films for a possible tribute episode, but man, I'm having a very hard time narrowing that list.
Yes! The Nick of Time episode is just fantastic, I absolutely love it. The Twilight Zone series is priceless, a DVD collection one would have to pry from my cold, dead hands. Keep up the wacky work, sir! You are beyond appreciated!
That's good. I got a rather amusing mental image of someone in an open casket with a Twilight Zone collection because no one could pry it from their cold, dead hands.
Good job, sir. It warms the cockles of my heart to see John Anderson and Dick York, John Hoyt, and the other superstars of my youth. And Patricia Breslin, oh my.............
I was a big fan of Bewitched as a lad. As I often say, even though I grew up in the 80s, much of the pop culture I was exposed to was from the 60s. And oddly, my first Bewitched episodes were all Dick Sargent. I liked him, but when they finally started re-running the older York episodes, he was way more my speed. Thanks for stopping by, Tector.
(20) VERY good choice of episodes, Mr. Snack Bar!!! My favorite one is called "He's Alive" and starred Dennis Hopper as the main protagonist. Quite startling. As usual, will be thrilled to see your next upload!!!
Ah, that's really interesting. I never hear anyone mention Season 4 episodes as their favorites. Nice outside-the-box choice. Dennis Hopper is darn good in that one.
"Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up" is one of my favorites, also there was a radio series for "The Twilight Zone" that ran in the 2000's. Stacy Keach was the host and they remade old episodes for radio as well as original stories like "The Nanobots". A ton of the episodes can be found on youtube.
@ shanegross9976 - Good to know. Thanks. They might make some good background with the lights out and drift off to sleep to. But your dreams might be weird. And Wacky.
I haven't gotten to them, but on the bluray release there are a whole bunch of radio play style episodes as special features. What is neat, is they are with the episodes of which they are remaking. So I wonder if it's the same ones.
I have no idea but I like the way the radio version of "Two" was made. Don Johnson voiced Charles Bronson's role and the female got an inner voice, I kind of liked it better.
Ah! Friday night at the Snack Bar….what better way to enjoy the weekend then zoning out to Twilight. Er, let me rephrase that. Binging on The Twilight Zone is a great way to spend the evening. All great picks. I do enjoy the Zone, but am not sure of which season my faves are from, or even some of the titles. One of my faves is the one where there is a giant alien balloon…don’t want to say to much and spoil the end. But there are soooo many really cool episodes. Sounding great RS…..Thanx for sharing!
10 out of 7 mutant capybaras agree that the Snack Bar is the perfect place to spend a Friday evening. Can't argue with that. This episode started out as just my favorites across the entire series. Thus why the thumbnail is non-specific. But when I was finished with my list, I noticed that every single one of them was from season 2. So I just went with that. My next favorite would be season 3.
Classic anthology TV doesn't get any better than THE TWILIGHT ZONE and you've made some great picks for season two. This is the season where composer Marius Constant contributed the famous theme music, taking the reins from the one and only Bernard Herrmann, the show's original composer. Jerry Goldsmith also contributed scores for many episodes as well.
There are some really good episodes in Season 1 without a doubt. But 2 is where it really came into its own for me and got its groove. And like you mentioned, the theme music. Not sure I knew that about Jerry Goldsmith. That's neat.
That's something I strive for, keeping the Snack Bar a positive place for all patrons. And, I think 50s sci-fi just brings in a classier, more refined sort of weirdo.
Some of my favorite episodes from season 2 are "The Obsolete Man", "Shadow Play", "100 Yards Over the Rim", "The Night of the Meek" and, of course, "Nick of Time" and "The Howling Man". Jerry Goldsmith turns in two of his best TZ scores for "Back There" and "The Invaders".
Some good ones as well. I particularly like "The Obsolete Man" and "The Night of the Meek." Those would both be somewhere in spots 6 through 10. I'm always glad to see John Fiedler.
Yes, indeed. A little factoid you may already know, but he wrote an early screenplay for Planet of the Apes. And though his script was rejected, they did use his twist ending.
Howdy! "Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up" was one of the introductory episodes I showed my GF when we first started dating. Was a beautiful spot to start and hooked her immediately.
@@AtomicSnackBar it's part of that weird-compatibility. Grab her opinions on Twilight Zone or introduce her to it, suggest a movie (this time it was "Gross Pointe Blank") and go from there. 10 years later, still pretty happy. Getting her to watch some of the really weird 50s stuff can be like pulling teeth, but she generally enjoys it once we get into it.
@AtomicSnackbar - Now I know you're not saying that YOU have a problem with B&W. Must be the 'Female'. She needs to understand more about storytelling in film. The more older movies I watch, the more I am able to discern just how bad every aspect of contemporary film is by comparison. Most teenagers and twenty-somethings cannot see beyond today and their own lives. 0 discernment. There are always a FEW exceptions, but today's generations are dumbed down. I'm sure our parents and grandparents lamented our entertainment as well. Noir Forever!
@@tonysantiago255 Eh, she has no issues coming to silent film nights at the theater with me on a monthly basis. It more boils down to tastes. I'd probably be careful with conflating quality of storytelling in film vs historical and modern differences in film-making. Especially when judging narrative is largely subjective, case by case, and individual by individual. There are plenty of bad films that are lost to the 40's-50's-60's as there are in the 00's-10's-20's.
Oh man almost all the episodes from season 2 are great and those are some solid choices, specially Flight 33! If I were to choose a favourite it would be "The Obsolete Man" with a special mention going to "Night Of The Meek".
Both very good episodes and favorites of mine. They could have easily been somewhere in spots 6 through 10. Glad to hear you like Night of the Meek in particular. I know some folks turn their noses up at the shot-on-video episodes, but I think those are some of the best ones.
Brilliantly presented video! Seriously, you make every one of these episodes sound like a must-see. Whilst I have the entire Twilight Zone show, I’ve hardly watched any of it.
Dare I say that each of these episodes are a must-see. Really, Season 2 as a whole is top Twilight Zone for me. If nothing else, I'd say watch Seasons 2 & 3.
The natural morning alarm clock that most men have got me up this morning, and now I can't go back to sleep for half an hour, so I'm watching you-well listening to you more than anything. I don't want to sound creepy....
William Shatner was in two of the best episodes of Twilight Zone. I think that, if not for Star Trek, he would have been known primarily for his Twilight Zone appearances.
I do believe you are correct, good sir. And Nightmare at 20,000 Feet is easily my favorite episode of Season 5. It's also probably the most iconic episode of the series. I don't think we've ever really discussed music, but Anthrax did a parody video for their song Inside Out. Quite good.
@ AtomicSnackBar - Both Shatner and Leonard Nimoy worked together in an episode of The Man from Uncle around the same time, just before Star Trek. Most of the same actors, once they had established a reliable reputation would get sent on every casting call in town which used the same casting agencies. Until they landed a series. A steady paycheck.
@ AtomicSnackbar - truthfully I don't remember. I bought a bunch of single DVD discs from the Dollar General in those yellow paper sleeves for... a Dollah! But I think somebody put a clip on RUclips. I'll have to dig around and find them.
@neilbrown9922 - an arguably worthy choice for a Top 10 Noir list. I've been encouraging Sterling to watch The Big Combo as well. It just showed up on Prime. Sterling...
I just watched the film now. It is a solidly told tale, that clicks along a decent rate. The cast is great, and the sets and spray on sweat give the second half of the film a nice, hot-house atmosphere. I like the Roosevelt Era Pan-Americanism feel, too; trying to show the Mexicans in a more or less positive light.
Thank you much, Douglas. I try not to assume everyone has seen everything. I was pretty late to the party with Twilight Zone. So most of it was new to me.
You are a braver man than I! Good choices but there are way too many that are just as good in the series. I don’t think I could ever limit it to a top 5 or even 20. You picked some good ones, though.
Funnily enough, this began as my favorite episodes from the entire series. But when I finished my list, I realized that every one of them was from Season 2. Totally unintentional. So I just went with it. With my lists being fully subjective, it's a bit easier to narrow them down. Thanks, Captain.
He really was. Not to mention all his work with AIP. But sci-fi and sci-fi writers have always gotten the short end of the credit stick. Think how many horror writers are household names. Now think how many sci-fi writers are. Rather unfair in my book.
I always find it neat to discover action figures from this early. Generally, I associate the time with the more doll-esc G.I.Joe. Great to hear from you again, Grognard. When I get a moment, I need to check out your Greyhawk in 5E video. Quite curious to hear your take on it.
@@AtomicSnackBar I would replace The Odyssey of flight 33 with The Obsolete Man Others I like are Shadow Play, Night of the Meek , Twenty-two, Night of the Invaders....
Agree as to Nick of Time. You could say that episode cost Shatner a fortune, and was able to predict his future. The device did make cents though. (Sorry).😋
@@garfieldsmith332 Yes, siree. I covered it in my Top 60s Giant Monsters episode, but since it was about the dinos, I didn't really get to focus on Martel.
Awesome suggestions, I just watched Nick of Time and loved it. Thought I had seen every episode of Twilight Zone, but boy was I wrong. Now got a nice list to go through. Some of my old favs were the one with the last guy on Earth plus books, the Shatner one on the plane with the you know what, the one with Agnes Moorehead and the saucer… , the “ugly lady” who wasn’t, lots more Im forgetting.
All great choices there. The one with Shatner on the plane, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," is probably my favorite episode from Season 5. A classic for a reason. Thanks for watching, Trilo.
Brilliant Rob I own the twilight zone series exerlence. I think your wrong about William shatner. I think he's better known for the devils rain or maybe kingdom of the spiders excellent movies, his defining tv work on columbo, kung fu, mission impossible, six million dollar man. But obviously his most famous roll in the barbary coast. Classic!
You could be right, but I'm not sure. Doesn't anyone like those scary type movies? It's not like they have cons are or anything. Unlike Airplane 2 Con which brings in millions of attendees every 3 months.
cheers man great episode, some really good choices there, but what i do need is a bonanza horse with full action hooves, my life would be complete, cheers sterling
Great list. I’m not the biggest Twilight Zone fan, however there are some episodes I love one being Time Enough at Last. I did love the Movie from 1983 buts its be years since I’ve seen.
Oh, I've never seen that one. I take it a lot of future stars appeared? I know in the 80s and early 90s, it was Married with Children. It's wild how many people were on that show.
Oh man, that you do. As a sci-fi fan, I would put particular importance on watching The Odyssey of Flight 33. And I expect a full report on my desk within 3 to 43566 weeks.
Always did love Will the real Martian please Stand Up. Great cast & i would guess most folks wont recall that Jean Willes was in many 3 Stooges shorts not to mention lots of film spots. That episode never gets old. All twilight Zones were great & we all have favorites mine was from this season staring funny man Bob Cummings in a not so funny role as Captain James Embry in the episode called King Nine Will Not Return, one of the best TZ's hands down. Some fine episodes in season 2 .
That was the Season 2 opening episode, right? But yeah, Season 2 really was such a strong season. Many fan favorites in that one. Speaking of the Stooges, I've been watching the old Stooges cartoon. Some of the early ones actually began with live action segments. Some good stuff there.
Always loved 'Two'! There is amazing Character development in a Story so brief! Side Note: Went to school in the Berkshires, & took rode the shuttle bus referred to in 'WtRMPSU' Many times! (Reasonably certain I know which Bridge they are referring to as well!)
Not to mention, such amazing character development in a story where there is only two characters and one of them doesn't speak. It's actually my favorite episode from Season 3. And see, just goes to show you. The Twilight Zone ... all true stories.
@thrashpondopons8348 - my sister-in-law got her MA in American History there. Blue Collar School. Working Class. No attitudes. The Spring is in full spring right now. Lots of flowering trees and bushes and birds. I'm originally from SE Florida. Veeeeeeery different.
Hey Rob! Always great to hear your thoughts on the 5th dimension. This is a mighty fine collection of episodes. Season 2 was VERY strong, but you know me, I love all of the seasons. You hit on pretty much all of my personal favs. I'd also throw in The Obsolete Man and Eye of the Beholder. If you ever get around to it, I'd love to hear your favs from the other season as well. Have a good one!
It's particularly flattering hearing that my go-to TZ guy enjoyed it. Originally, this episode was just meant to be my favorites from the entire series. But when I finished narrowing down my list ... they were all Season 2. The plan was to continue and do the rest, but boy oh boy did this one bomb. Not sure what happened there. Yard gnomes I would guess.
@ AtomicSnackBar - I realize that the numbers for this one aren't as high as the THOUSANDS of views you've become accustomed to, but the Fan interaction is quite good along with the 'thumbs up' ratio. Sometimes ya just gotta do one just for the Diehard fans of the Channel. You definitely brought the Nostalgia with the Zone. The SnackBar is the place to get your Chilly-dilly every Friday night. Chandu!
Love your Twilight Zone videos. I haven't rewatched the show in decades so it's nice to revisit through your very informative and passionate lense. Unrelated, have you seen Invasion of the Neptune Men? Very groovy spaceship car in the first like 10 minutes. I also think you'd dig the alien designs
That is mighty kind of you to say. I appreciate that, good sir. But no, I haven't seen Neptune Men. Co-inky dinkily though, I was considering picking up the "Classic Tokusatsu Collection" after watching your short.
@@interwebkaiju Will you be covering any of it on the channel? That would probably give me the push I need to grab it. The collection that is, not your channel.
@AtomicSnackBar eventually but you know I'm not nearly as good as keeping a schedule as you so it may be a while. Maybe I'll split it up and make each disc it's own video.
I'm back in town & catching up on what I've missed! U know, Mr. S, I think the reason the Twilight Zone has stood the test of time is due to the fact the stories were character driven & featured great actors! At the time, I liked the Outer Limits better, but alas, some of their special effects have not stood the test of time -- unlike myself. The monster in one episode I watched looked like a pile of poo with eyes -- yikes! No shi...stuff! Warren!
I've kind of flip flopped on this very important matter over the years. For awhile, I felt Twilight Zone was the better of the two. But since my last full rewatch of the Zone, I think I'm leaning more to The Outer Limits. Granted it was a far shorter series, but that means very little filler and throwaway episodes. Good to hear that the Warrens are back in town. YT is far less Warren-ting of attention without him.
@@AtomicSnackBar -- It is interesting to compare the 2 series Mr. S! Have you ever done an upload on OL? And thanks for the kind words -- I heard there was a Warren for my arrest, so I came back! I was in the USA, but stuck to Danishes, not Donuts! Cheers Warren, who always says, there's a lot of places like home!
@@AtomicSnackBarman, The Muppet Show really takes me back. I clearly remember coming inside from playing to watch it as a kid. Recently I did a quick run through of the series hitting the episodes of various guest stars. Vincent Price, Alice Cooper, Leo Sayer, and Don Knotts just to name a few. Gonzo is one of my faves, and of course Dr.Teeth and The Electric Mayhem band. Gotta love Pigs in Space as well.
@@chrisbridges4885 I saw that Diamond Select has re-released some of their Muppets figures. I've been seriously debating collecting Electric Mayhem and putting them in my Batcave playset rather than actual Batman figures. Because, well, there's always room for Dr. Teeth at the Batcave.
Great picks Slim. Penny for your thoughts is one of my favorites as well. Dick York is my favorite Darren as well. Bronson the Warlock lol. Has a nice ring don't you think?
@ wimvanderdtraten6521 - Sterling addressed that point quite well in this video. Apparently, Charles Beaumont intended the episode to be a very deliberate allegory. The 'Crook' was substituted for a 'Cross' being used to hold the Devil in the cell. The Cross: Christianity. The Crook ( the staff of Moses): Judaism. Make of that what you will.
some lovely stuff again. I haven't seen all of these episodes, unfortunately, TZ is very hard to watch in the UK, only really available to buy on DVD which is not cheap. Flight 33 was one of the first I ever saw, along with the Tele Savallis episode with 'Talking Tina'. The pilot in Flight 33 was the car salesmen in Psycho. Just as an interesting (well maybe) side note, there is an episode where inanimate objects come to life and attack a man - in the Richard Mattheson original story there is more of a question mark as to whether the objects are doing anything, as the man becomes more angry and clumsy. Again, many thanks for a great bit of entertainment. Humour, facts and William Shatner.
Living Doll is a really good episode. One of the standouts of Season 5. Savalas is great in it and plays such a creep. I didn't know that about the Flight 33 and Psycho connection. That's rather neat itself. Do you have a region-free DVD player? Because you can find the U.S. release of The Twilight Zone Complete Series on DVD for pretty cheap these days.
@@AtomicSnackBar thanks for the tip - I do have region free DVD, that's how I watch Showa Godzilla, I have a couple of nice, Australian box sets. Also, Foghorn Leghorn, that is for some reason basically banned - I sort of understand Speedy Gonzales but not Foghorn Leghorn.
@ AtomicSnackbar - I had a snarky answer to this question, but the Tube removed it. It referenced certain accents of the lower portion of the United States, a certain singing Disney film from said region and the use of the "R" word. Let's see how long it takes them to take this one down.
Brilliant. Will you do the same for the other remaining three seasons of the original Twilight Zone? ( I kind of assume you have done season 1 already,( pedantic little so and so that I am) Love to see what your thoughts are on The Outer Limits as well. BTW, didn't Bill Shatner look so thin? Nothing at all like Captain cuddles he would become in season 2 and 3 of Star Trek just a few years later. such a nostalgic trip. At least 4 strange aliens on the wings of our planes out of 5 for this one.
Oddly enough, I have not done Season 1. This episode started as just my favorites of the entire series. But when the list was finished, I noticed every episode was from Season 2. So I just slapped a Season 2 onto the description. The Thumbnail even represents that. As to the rest, that was the plan if this one did well. But boy oh boy, this one is proving to be the Mac and Me of Snack Bar episodes so far. I may still do Outer Limits. I think it may fare better. Thanks as always for stopping by, Sir Greg of Gregsylvania.
My, my. Since the series was arguably the High standard in Television to measure against, this list would have to be also Highly subjective. Just too many Great episodes to pin down. I tend to lean toward the more sentiment, sweet, emotional episodes like Kick the Can, Walking Distance, A Stop at Willobey, and one whose name escapes me right now. It features a friendship between a mysterious old man and a little crippled girl. I'm sure someone in the Comments will be able to come up with it. I especially enjoyed the reappearance of your former monkey self and your current goteed incarnation falling into the classic Twilight Zone spiral.
Yes, siree. It's subjective night here at the Snack Bar and I expect the angry randos to be out in full force. Perhaps even the sentimental randos as well. That is, if anyone watches it. Never had much luck with The Zone here on the channel. Is The Fugitive the one you are referring to? That one does have a pretty good pay off. Season 3 I do believe. As to the spiral and monkeys and goatees ... your mind is playing tricks on me again.
@ AtomicSnackBar - Thanks for the title. I actually only own 2 sets of the 'Fan Favorites' which include all of my favs except A Stop At Willobey. I didn't catch that this was a strictly Season 2 list and mine are no doubt from different seasons. Again, completely subjective. And strangely, I rewatched this video and I must have imagined it. Neither of your likeness' were there. Curious and curiouser. I also got a subliminal flash of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I'm going to have to up my meds. Or cut down on the sugar donuts.
You really did. But hey, it's not too late. I was really late to the party myself. Didn't catch it until I was in my late 30s. And even then, I was still really impressed with it.

Nice catch, young Mr. Saurus. You are the only person/giant monster that has mentioned the appearance of Devil Francis. I wasn't familiar at all with "Struck by Lightning," but I just went and watched a promo for it. Man, I dig the look of it. Very Dark Shadows ... but Elamier. It's a word.
@@AtomicSnackBar Lol, I wouldn’t miss an appearance by Francis Buxton, that movie was a key element of my formative years 😜 Fun fact about _Struck by Lightning,_ even though only three of its 11 episodes aired in the US before it got cancelled, apparently the full season aired in the UK, so there’s a _chance_ recordings exist… which would be the Elamiest thing ever! 😁

I can’t argue with any of your choices especially Nick Of Time. I feel like we have discussed that episode before and maybe a few of these it feels like. I can’t remember are you watching these on a streaming service or do you have that Boxset? I have put off getting the Boxset for what feels like forever. I would still like to get that one and the complete James Bond collection. I’m getting a little off track. I enjoy each and every episode you mentioned.
The first time I watched it was streaming. But I liked it enough to buy the bluray set. Definitely worth picking up. A fantastic collection. But you may recall I did a review for the set itself and the packaging is really difficult. Super tough to get the discs out.
@ AtomicSnackBar - Yeah. I bought a Lost In Space Session 1 with the paper sleeves in a booklet form and I got so frustrated trying to remove the discs that it put me off watching them. I don't think that disc 1 ever got put back in. You feel like you're going to tip the paper cover trying to get them out. But the price is what sells that set.

@@AtomicSnackBar -- You were wise to give them up, Mr. S! Eating donuts leads to stronger stuff -- like eating bagels, which are donuts dipped in cement! Cheers Warren, who's teeth are worn down from eating bagels from Horny Tims -- er, Tim Horton's!
Thanks for featuring "TWO"! That episode really is unique for the time; more akin to TERMINATOR or THE LAST OF US than what you'd expect from its time, even down to the weapons and uniforms. Both leads are fantastic, and their burned out, kinda-us-bu-maybe-not future/past is really 'dope'. Your other picks are. of course, exemplary. ;)
Why thank you kindly, Mr. Douglas. Two is one of those episodes that, though fantastic, always leaves me wanting more of those two crazy kids. It would have made for an excellent full length feature as well. But as it was, the mystery of the world and its characters, offered a perfect little morsel of a bigger story.
That's it, isn't it? One of those rare stories that left you wanting to know more about the past and future of the people involved. As I remember their languages were an issue too; I think it's Bronson teaching Montgomery English by the end. Hey, if there's only one other person left on Earth with you, may it be Elizabeth Montgomery!
As long as it isn't SUPER-UNCONVINCING-UNCANNY-VFX-VAMPIRE-BABY. Kolchack couldn't deal with that thing. Old 'floating face' we called it/her... No. No one deserves that.
That is a great point. I was curious about that and looked into it. Turns out, Pernell Roberts left the show after they started work on the toyline. They had already sculpted his figure, though. So they added a mustache to it and called him "The Outlaw."
@AtomicSnackBar favourite episode of all series would be the one with Anne Francis in (forbidden planet) think it was called ' Jesse Belle '. ... she was a fox!
@ robinlarge1630 - Is that the one where she an 'employee' in a department store? She was in fact, very lovely and her beauty mark was real! Or so Robbie insisted.
What makes an episode stand out? Some sort of lesson about behavior or psychology? Some warning? A twist so funny or jarring you never expected it? Similarly what makes a Bible story stand out; a Greek myth; Aesop's fable; a short story; a comic book? How it affects you? The level to which it affects you? Why were you attracted to Susan Oliver (the green dancer in Star Trek) but not to Anne Hathaway? Why does no one want to have sex with Anne Hathaway? Mystery, beauty, creepiness, cupidity, terror do they all lie in between fear of the unknown and attraction to the alien? Likeable, familiar characters in peculiar situations; or peculiar, hateful characters in mundane situations. Is that all that's needed to catch our interest? Not every episode can be a gem, but your tastes match mine. The ones you've picked were instantly recognizable. The Howling man turning into a horned, goatee'd man? Rubbish! But in those few seconds! That rolling transformation and glimpse was enough to make you imagine the Devil himself! The most valuable lessons protect you from harm. These episodes try to prevent the most regrettable harm. They warn against self harm. Isnt that what myths do? At least the ones i found most interesting. No one wants to have sex with Anne Hathaway.
@ kalianpublico7517 - Many of the original series episodes were purposeful allegories. What used to be referred to as 'Morality Plays'. When seen with this in mind, the 'moral lessons' and the consequences of immoral behavior (in the 50s and 60s) were the perfect fodder for the genres of Science fiction and horror. As for Ann Hathaway, I thought she was quite attractive as Catwoman. The problem comes when she opens her mouth. What spews forth is not purring.
@@tonysantiago255 I didn't mean to single out Anne. It's just she came to mind as a "modern" actress. I guess I could have picked Allison Sweeney, Scarlett Johansen, Jenna Ortega, etcetera. In any case whether it's a myth or a woman the ones that captures your imagination in a way that has a lasting impact is personal. Influenced by Culture, yes, so they can elicit mass appeal; but personal in an evolutionary sense too -which is...genetic: beyond culture? Why is Oedipus Rex taught in school? Why would they put that in your head? I mean the porn movie "The Devil in Miss Jones" has one of the all time most stunning, moral twists I've ever seen. Why isn't that taught in school? I kinda know why the "Black Mirror" episode "Shut up and Dance" sticks in my head (because it's contemporary: about the internet, and topical), but why is Oedipus Rex still in there? What is it trying to tell me? Something cultural...or something genetic?
Wait, you didn't take "The Devil in Miss Jones 101" in school? Surely you must have taken "Beyond the Green Door - A Study in Art and Topiary"? Serious stuff aside, I never had to read Oedipus in school. But I do remember a drama teacher in the highly unneeded Drama 101 we were required to take showed us a taped version of the play.
@@tonysantiago255 That's the goto answer for art. That it has a psychological effect, like a taboo. Or like the movie "Arrival" where Amy Adam's character after learning about her future, instead of trying to change it (like a time travel movie) just changes her "expectations" of the future. I suppose Oedipus, in the opposite way of learning about his past, also changes his "expectations": point of view. Myths have both heroes and tragic figures. Hercules and Oedipus. Both commit moral sins, but one perseveres. I suppose the Twilight Zone has its versions of myths that give us depictions in between hope and despair. Perhaps comedy is that comforting balm of hope that tells us our despair is but an "expectation". An expectation so easily nullified even a buffoon can accomplish it. Or a hero or a common person. What challenges expectation gives us courage. Beware, however, for courage can lead to developments that cannot indemnify you against despair: hopelessness. Knowledge is not complete indemnity from error, for man's knowledge is incomplete. The pagan gods surely provided no indemnity from moral error. They were even the source of moral entanglement: ingression. Was that not the point of the Biblical tale of Job? Morality does not indemnify you against suffering. What does? According to some stories a little resourcefulness goes a long way. Only omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence can insure complete moral good. Everything else falls short, even desirelessness.
Awesome episode the Twilight Zone always set that normal look but something sinister is hiding underneath vibe perfectly. And I never knew there were Bonanza action figures live and learn
I'll take just about any opportunity I can to work toys into the videos. I thought those were really neat. I didn't realize there were action figures of that style around so early. I always think of the more G.I.Joe-esc dolls of the time.
@ AtomicSnackBar - Captain Action. He was ALL of those heroes. But this poor 60s child could never do anything but stare through the Toy Store window. In the snow. With no Christmas shoes. Yeah... I grew up in Florida. So all of that's a lie. Not sorry. Reeses.
It amazes me of a sort that I have been watching this show in reruns for sixty years.
Just a testament to just how good and groundbreaking a show it really was. I can think of very few others to hit that level. Star Trek TOS. Batman '66 to a lesser degree. Not many.
@@AtomicSnackBar Can't even watch TOS anymore. Not because it isn't good, but because I just know all of the dialog before it's delivered.
@@richardbale3278 Might be time to invest in a good memory eraser.
My personal favorite is "A Game of Pool" with only 2 actors, Jack Klugman and Jonathan Winters.
That is a good one. And just goes to show what good writing and performances can do even in such a minimalistic episode.

(20) VERY good choice of episodes, Mr. Snack Bar!!! My favorite one is called "He's Alive" and starred Dennis Hopper as the main protagonist. Quite startling. As usual, will be thrilled to see your next upload!!!

Lovely. I look forward to this stuff. Brightens my sad creepy little life. 😉🤟
Glad to hear it. Keep it bright and creepy, RSS.
Twilight Zone is great, I used to dig Night Gallery quite a bit as well, though it seemed more horror and creepy
I have that one, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I meant to soon, but got distracted with the original Muppet Show.
Warlock Bronson - Private Eye. It does have a certain pulpy kind if ring to it.
Thanks, buddy.
@ AtomicSnackbar - is he going to be a character in your upcoming anthology or being saved for a gumshoe noir still in the first draft outline stages?
@@tonysantiago255 There is actually a gumshoe noir story in the collection. But alas, not Warlock Bronson.
@ AtomicSnackBar - well... keep it in your back pocket. "What's in a name?" Actually, quite a bit.
Why do the monks in The Howling Man look like Old Testament prophets?
My guess would be because they are operating on a much higher level than your average monk. These guys are up to important work.
@@tonysantiago255 it is a strange world we live in.
@@tonysantiago255 Yeah, that about sums it up. And definitely a case of overthinking something.
So many great shows
True classics.
@@tonysantiago255 Cutting down on donuts is never the answer. Unless the question is, "What should you never do?".
@ AtomicSnackbar - So says R.Sterling aka Homer Simpson. " Doeee-nut." 😋
@@tonysantiago255 Off but on topic, it is nice finally having a photo to go with the name.
As a Brit we never got this show, I now feel like I missed out

You really did. But hey, it's not too late. I was really late to the party myself. Didn't catch it until I was in my late 30s. And even then, I was still really impressed with it.

7:47 …unless, of course, you’re a Venusian 😉
Oddly enough, despite seeing Jack Elam in a ton of movies and shows over the years, he’s mostly closely associated in my brain with the failed 1979 sitcom “Struck by Lightning” where he played a modern-day Frankenstein’s Monster 😳 Apparently it made a real impression on wee li’l me 😅
Nice catch, young Mr. Saurus. You are the only person/giant monster that has mentioned the appearance of Devil Francis.
I wasn't familiar at all with "Struck by Lightning," but I just went and watched a promo for it. Man, I dig the look of it. Very Dark Shadows ... but Elamier. It's a word.
@@AtomicSnackBar Lol, I wouldn’t miss an appearance by Francis Buxton, that movie was a key element of my formative years 😜
Fun fact about _Struck by Lightning,_ even though only three of its 11 episodes aired in the US before it got cancelled, apparently the full season aired in the UK, so there’s a _chance_ recordings exist… which would be the Elamiest thing ever! 😁
@@Gappasaurus This must be found. The world needs more of that sweet Elam monster action. Make it so, Number Gappa.

You got me on this one. I'm not familiar. And I could only find info on Mason Reese, the child actor from the 70s.
@@AtomicSnackBar Now that you mention that I remember us having that conversation just like it was yesterday but what I didn’t remember was it being a Blu-ray set that you were talking about. I have been eyeing the dvd set for what feels like forever.
@@tonysantiago255 I haven't heard about that version. I have the old DVD set with all the little mini-cases. I miss when they did that. Though I guess it did take up a lot more space.
What, no ad for Oasis Cigarettes -- I remember their commercials from one episode of the TW I watched -- I think Rod smoked a carton of them every episode! Cheers Warren, former 3 pack a day man!
I'm a former 3 pack a day man as well. Though mine were packs of donuts.

@@robinlarge1630 Interesting tidbit on that one. It's the only episode not to feature a closing narration by Serling.
@ robinlarge1630 - Is that the one where she an 'employee' in a department store? She was in fact, very lovely and her beauty mark was real! Or so Robbie insisted.
@tonysantiago255 no, though that's another great episode.
She uses witchcraft to steal a man from another woman.
Torso envy...
It's a thing.
@ AtomicSnackbar - Much like Tennessee Williams, they all had overbearing Mothers that screwed up their head. "Get some help."
El Topo.
The Twilight Zone is probably the only place a version of me would cover that movie.
hav Duel😊
A fine film indeed. I caught it on cable and was just blown away by it.
Awesome episode the Twilight Zone always set that normal look but something sinister is hiding underneath vibe perfectly. And I never knew there were Bonanza action figures live and learn
