OMG . So i'm at the 4 min mark in the video and i'm already raging mad at myself. I came here just to pass time, its late, and i love and adore Grim Dawn and haven't visited this channel too much. But I'm mad because in only 4 mins you have told me things about the game i didnt even notice in my freaken 2 years of playing this game. And i dread watching rest of the video to learn even more things i may have neglected.....
At the beginning i made the mistake of spreading the points too much. But i guess this happens automatically because you want to test the abilities a bit. Most problem i had /have is to learn how much points to take with certain abilities because some drop in value or mostly are 1 point skills. I guess that would be another vid. ^^ What helped me a lot is useing GrimTools . Playing around with your points looking what to take and what synergies are maybe possible and so on. At the beginning it happend to me a lot that i wanted to use too many abilities at once but you don´t get that many points to do so ^^ You realise that in Grimtools quite quick. PS: Nice vid again. i hope for more to come :) cya
Btw HIS FIRST TIP is not necessary. Simply change the option in gameplay, check a box that says something like... use classic targeting. And there It is, you will no longer attack the objective where your cursor is passing through. And move more controled.
Im doing my 1st hardcore run through. Just beat it on Veteran, now moving to elite, at lv 50. Think thats wise? I have a life drain deathknight. Using lifedrain, and spectral wrath. So far its been pretty easy. I like Hardcore so much more than regular. I got bored of regular, because there feels like no real risk in dying. Hardcore makes my heart jump at times, and gives a true rush.
I've just recently started Grim Dawn. I started with an Occultist and added Necromancer at 10. I love running around with my crow, hellhound and skeleton group. I just stand back shooting into the mob. I'm not even up to 20 yet but I'm having a blast so far. I don't know how viable this will be at end game.
In my experience I found that the storm box is very good even single target, once you tethered. Sure, it doesn't do tons of damage but you can do respectable damage WHILE kiting the boss. This for me is priceless, but I'm not a great player.
IMHO, Olexa's Flash Freeze is the king of leveling skills. That skill, combined with the weapon component for casting a fireball/greater fireball is all you need. Just max out OFF early on. It's damage is good, and it strips fire resistance, so it makes your fireball hit much harder. Maxed out OFF will basically clear all trash mobs off your entire screen. This is a trash killer....not a boss killer. You will need another skill to handle the Act 1 boss. I usually put several points in Trozan's Sky Shard to beat down bosses with. OFF's damage will lose much of it's punch around level 40. I typically take most of the points out of OFF at that point and invest more towards my end game build, unless I am pursing a fire damage build, in which I keep a maxed out OFF for the fire resistance strip. Malagant is 100% correct....while leveling, AOE is king...pets can also make for a pretty fast leveling experience.
I like Inquisitor's Word of Pain or any aoe with a dot damage on them. Applying such abilities allows you kite big packs or harder bosses while still weakening them. I'd say 2 damage types max. It's hard to do single type of damage because weapons usually do physical or piercing and abilities do elemental and there are a lot of good gear with conversion stats on it.
if grim dawn did like 1 month leagues or something and you were going to play every league, what character/build would you start with every time that can have a smooth start to every league and get to and do end game content/farming for other characters easily?
I would say that pet builds are far superior in terms of starting builds because you dont really need any good gear for that. Start necro and go for skeletons and you will have an easy time clearing everything. A death knight is also good because of easily farmed gear and later you can make him a drain essence retaliation char instead later on, which is far more powerful but requires specific gear. Drain essence retaliation is OP as fuck and can clear crucible without any troubles even with very bad gear.
I'm sure your video has a lot of great info but good lord you have too much fluff man. Instead of "one thing that's interesting..." You can say "Don't use cadence for soldier, make your main ability an AOE that's good on single target". Still left you a thumbs up, you do have great info.
So if I have a Spellbinder that focuses on Essence drain and some other oae spells, and I end up with 3 damage types that overlap each other because of my chosen spells. That means I focus on too many damage types? (Vitality dmg, Vitality decay and Aether damage.)

Because if you go all the way through the Drain Essence line, you deal with all 3 of those damage types. Does that mean that focussing on an AAR build is more efficient, since you only focus on Aether and you get the most bonus Aether dmg in the end? I'm lvl 61 now and was following a build from early last year, so I feel like much has changed and my current build is lacking. I also follow the Ravenous Earh line that also focusses on vit and decay, so I feel like I should abandon some lines and focus on just 1 main line of skills. Once I have a clearer picture of what is best I will probably enjoy this game even more and I will leave you alone for the while being haha. I love your channel and your knowledge of the game!
@@daanvandee257 many abilities have multiple damage types. I think the idea, at least early on, is to choose one to focus on. You can have a skill that has 3 types, but all of your gear and devotions should focus on one of those if possible. If all of your items and devotions add Vitality, with some adding Vit and decay or some adding Vit and Aether, that would be ideal. You can do more than one type of damage, but if you want to level quickly, it's best to focus on one of the types of damage you deal. I would personally recommend that people focus on an instant damage type early on (Vitality, Acid, Fire, Physical etc.) instead of Damage over time (Damage over time is poison, decay, bleed, burn etc.)

@@tobiaszn6531 if you havent chosen a second class on a character, you can choose it as your second class after you get the expansion... but otherwise you have to start a new character. You've never been able to undo a class selection in the game, it's part of what gives weight to your choice and gets people to make alternative characters xD
one video i have never seen you do is how to unlock all the gates and door in the game that are locked. even with max reputation they are locked i dont get it
Can you make an example? Because I've recently explored whole map and the only gate that is closed is in Immolation (but I'm not Honored with Black Legion for that quest) and of course Skeleton Key doors (those are always closed). Everything else is opened at least in first 4 acts. Oh and those crystals blocking path in Burrwitch estates can be removed only in expansion after beating final boss in act 4.
i have a question. i use vitality and decay which you can find easily in all gears together but even with 1000% vitality and 900% decay i still feel weak. are certain damage type just weak?

i find maxing atk speed % is more dps than dmg% and never sacrifice resist for dmg

Cadence + Fighting form = AOE (160° arc) and it hits like a truck.

It would be a lot easier to support vit and decay especially during the early leveling period. Same can be said for Aether alone!

Tobiasz N, you have to make a new character. There is no way to change a class once it is chosen.

A leveling video should mention the Lokarr set for completeness. Once you have, it speeds up the leveling process quite a bit.
