Do you want to know weather this Greek song is middle eastern
The answer was given by a Persian musicologist. The Persian sad Greek traditional song went from Ancient Greece to the Middle East. He analyzed the Ancient Greek scales and musical tradition. Greece influenced even Indian music. This is said by the top Indian singers
Philip Glass introduced me to this song in his concert Orion. Since then I have fallen in love with this song. Hailings from Mexico to all helenic people.
Ormorfi mousiki kai ormorfi foni! I'm English and Greece is my favourite country. Visiting Skiathos in August. If only I could listen to this is in a taverna!
As an Arab, I thought it was Turkish at first. But GOD is this Beautiful.
The Gods stared down from Olympus, some nearly wept at the sight and sound of this incredible beauty that reminded them of the old world. They have not been appeased by mankind for a long time.
Influência Otomana ou império romano na parte de Constantinopla talvez?
Hellenic music ...not other
The Turkish took all their culture from the Greeks when they came to Anatolia ,there is no Turkish music there is Greece music .هذه هي الحقيقة
@@HOBAPOMAnah they were influenced by the Greeks. For the simple reason that the Greeks existed before the ottomans. The Greeks have influenced their food, culture and music culture
This was beautifully beautiful !!! Lots of love from India ❤️🇮🇳
I have lost both my parents who were imigrents from Greece to Canada I really enjoyed your version of this song it's one of the best I have heard it reminds me of my parents thank you

Thank you so much 😀
Enchanting! I don't speak Greek, but I felt touched in the heart!
I'm Brazilian and I'm studying modern Greek language for about a year now, still very challenging for me. So I was looking for Greek songs and I ended up here
Great song, really well played. Very beautiful.
Is it disrespectful to dance this song, for example? I mean, dance as a perform.
No it is totally ok to dance to this in my opinion, as long as you understand the song. Its about losing a "precious stone" ....a loved one, an item or the difficulty with time passing, etc... Respect the song and the beauty of the art in which im sure you will display will be breathtaking... I love the Portuguese language, Im a Greek/American, greetings.
@@KidVas1018 Tks for answering! I love my language too, and I love to study other languages as well. Really interesting knowing the meaning of this beautiful song. I am still amazed by its beauty
I forgot to mention the incredible performance by the singer and the musician. This girls voice is the voice for this song. It makes the song and music come together
This is perhaps the most beautiful music I have ever heard. LONG LIVE GREECE!
I can't understand what you're writing guys, but god bless Ελλάδα!

I came here to hear what Greek singing sounds like, and I have not been disappointed. It was a pleasure in and of itself listening to this song, but when you read the English lyrics, it's even more ethereal. Just beautiful

I looked up the English lyrics for this song and have been listening to it all morning. Your rendition is heartfelt and hauntingly beautiful. You three are very talented musicians. Thanks for sharing with the world. Every culture seems to have at least one beautiful, moving traditional song. I may have just heard the Greek one.
The actual tradition song you will hear it from Domna Samiou .But also this amazing girl has beautiful voice .Moreover you will find many beautiful traditional songs from Greece because there are so many different traditional sounds.Almost every island has its own traditional music and in mainland also there are several “tribes” with their own traditional music such as Pontiaka,Sarakatsanika ,Vlaxika.Ipirotika ,Thrakiotika and many more .It worths to look for them
aku suka lagu ini. seperti lagu dari negri ku
Beautiful!
This is one of my greek favorites 😍
Ωραία πόλη.
~English translation~
The foreign lands have you
My tzivaeri
The flower of mine.
Quietly and humbly.
It was me that sent them
With my own will.
Damn you foreign lands
You and your good offerings.
You took my little kid
And made it yours.
Quietly and humbly, quietly I step on the ground.
----------
This is a traditional Greek immigrant song, sung by a mother that pushed her offspring to immigration for a brighter future (probably during a war).
Tzivaeri literal meaning is "gem" from the arabic word "jawahir".
After Turkish invasion and installation in Greece, there was clearly a wave of language "mixing" where Greeks adopted many foreign words and habits.

Gorgeous. If you enjoy this, you will love the world's oldest known complete song with lyrics and music. Just search Seikilos Epitaph. The composer's work was inscribed on an Ancient Greek tomb in honour of his wife. There are many incredible versions, mainly from scholars of ancient music around the world, but I strongly recommend the version by Nektaria Karantzi - one of the greatest singer of ancient music from Greece and the byzantine (trust me, do yourself a favour an listen).
This is so good
ΥΠΕΡΟΧΟ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, Greek music sounds very similar to Turkish, Persian, and Middle Eastern.
Did Greek music influence the others, or vice versa?
Or did they all influence each other when each of their dynasties were in power?
I can't find anyone who can explain the similarities.
Greece, and the entirety of the Balkans, were part of the Ottoman Empire for centuries. As a result, a lot of cross-pollination in terms of culture and music. The traditional Greek music though sound more generally "Mediterranean" than Middle Eastern. If you want to hear uniquely Greek music, here are some examples:
ruclips.net/video/dzlcxN0lxSo/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/UYZMrFWnMes/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/HJyLWbuGX5A/видео.html
I have lived in these countries and I can attest to “some” similarities, however at a detailed level there are subtle differences. I love all types though from this part of the world
This music has a long history. This is the music of the Greeks going back to ancient times. This the music carried to world by Alexander the Great. Besides Persia was influenced by this music The Indians we’re heavily influence by this music
In fact Rabi Shankar paid tribute to this music. In his shows. Now Indian music strongly influence Greek music which the Indians kept from the days of Alexander. Hence all these type sound came back to Greece via Indian music videos which was the in thing to watch and copy. Great Greek musicians from Anatolia copied and resurrected this music from old Indian songs who in turn were affected by Ancient Greek music from the days of Alexander. Hence it is not Turkish in any way but Ancient Greek that transfer back into the Greek consciousness by Indian music movies
@@boband75 Bob your comment is great. You absolutely right. There are very detailed difference in each culture cultur
@@user-yp6yr9te7l Greek music was not influence by ottomans I
It is the other way around
Actually Greek music was influenced by Indian music more so from movies in the 1950s.
Indian musician say that their music have their roots in Ancient Greece
So ottoman music did not influence Greek or Balkan music.
♡
i love this song, the root of all music seems to come from greece. on the other hand i hate the way "oh what a feeling" seems to have ripped this off lol

Great 😃 Can someone write the lyrics in English?
It's a lament of a parent for his child that left its home for a foreign land.
Oh, the foreign lands take joy, my precious, of my beautiful flower
humbly i walk on the earth.
It's me that sent him/her there, my precious, on my own will
humbly i walk on the earth.
Oh, damn you, immigration, my precious, you and all your benefits
Oh, you took away my little child, my precious, and made him/her yours
