I love love the rex prints, it’s a learning piece before they walk in the building. It’s amazing you have that in front because most people would never seen rex print in the wild
Rex hit the jackpot when she came to live with you guys. Y'all have taken such great care of her & she's grown so much. Thank you for giving your heart & time to these animals who need love 💜
Really liking the footprints! Couldn’t you have used the target to get her to follow you up the ramp? That was my first thought when I heard your vision of her footprints, but I’m not sure how exactly your target training with her works and if she’d even follow it for the whole ramp
That's what I was thinking but I don't think they've done much target training yet. Our zoo could transfer our gators all over behind the scenes using target training. They did food based rewards for target training. It is amazing Rex loves attention for rewards.
They used to clean her room at their house sometimes just using target training. But idk if she would've followed well, and they can't target the wet concrete, yknow?
I love her circle!!! It's her "circle of life" stamp for the zoo! You guys do rescue and re-home,so it's very fitting!!! Rex knows what she's doing! It couldn't be more perfect!!!! Thanks Rexie!!!!!!!💖🐊💖
Emily and Ed - these prints are great! I love that Rex picked her own path and left her lasting statement - like ‘guys I know you want me to go straight… but I’m gonna do this instead’. That’s her and I think it’s lovely and adds so much character to your entrance. It’s also real, she did that and that’s so cool! I love it.
What even more amazing about this is that this will be a memory of rex. So when Rex sadly passes, they will be there and be her memory forever with Ed, Emily, and crew. It'll be a spot you can go to to always remember her. So it's not just a short memory and short event. It's a long lasting memory. It's literally Rex's mark on the world.
Please do a Rex Health update. How much she had grown since last update and if her mouth is reshaping her deformity back to normal now that she has even more space
This looks really cool! However I wonder wether you have any plan on filling the prints out with some epoxy or similar? For wheelchair users or other walking aids, this kind of uneven ramp could be a problem. Maybe coloring the footprints in and then filling them with some kind of clear epoxy or other similar product could be a good solution to that!
@@melissajarvis4829 As long as it's the "regular" kind of brick, meaning even bricks, with only very slight differences of height, it's not a problem. However there are brick types that are a problem, if the gaps between stones are very deep or large. Also if the bricks are very uneven. I'm not too sure, how common they are in other countries tho, we have a lot of uneven, big gap brick paths here in germany. Regular brick paths are totally fine! It's more about the irregularity of the prints in the path, and the fact that there is no place to walk without having to walk across the prints are the problems. If I'm out in a wheelchair, this ramp wouldn't be accessible for me, even less so with my walker.
@@melissajarvis4829 it sure is less accessible for walkers and canes than for wheelchairs, but I as a user of both a wheelchair and a walker (and occasionally crutches) would be uneasy with any aid to use this ramp. Definitely more so with my walker and crutches than with my wheelchair, but still. I don‘t know the exact regulations in the US, I‘m from Germany as I said, but I know that despite these regulations existing, there are still lots of places that do not follow them, or even if followed, could be way more accessible. I‘m not saying that I wouldn‘t be able to enter the building, but nonetheless, it could be definitely more accessible if the prints were filled in!
same thoughts. I also remember them making a mold of Rex's foot they could have also used it but maybe it would have not looked as genuine as rex actually walking
My guess is that the target training is for food specifically so they didn't want her in 'food mode' or didn't want to negate the significance of the target being presented to her even further by using it to direct her but not give her a reward for it (which they wouldn't be able to do with her mouth taped up and her still needing to be handled to put her back later)
I love the fact that the way you were holding Rex was the same way I hold my cats when I’m in a hurry and have to move them somewhere, or have something in my other hand. Aww.
You totally made those construction guy’s day! I’ve been on job sites where the customer shows off cool stuff like this and it’s always a treat…..I’ve never seen anything that remotely cool though. Cheers!
I believe they sanded down the high points for the pallet jacks and people that use/bound to wheelchair and are unsteady on there feet can walk the ramp
I actually really like the way the prints turned out! I think it looks so much more interesting and cooler, less man made. You could always put a model alligator at the end of the trail to 'show' what made it :)
*Idea: For some of the "tree" posts, why not have a few potted vine plants that will wrap themselves around the posts? There's some really hardy species that grow quickly and that wouldn't need a lot of water or maintenance. Also I'd throw in the suggestion of dyeing/painting Rex's concrete footprints. Congrats on the new walkway btw!
First, you should do Allie too.. I live in Texas and your facility is like 17-19 hrs away but I planned an entire visit around visiting your facility!!! While I'm there I wanna see Sharon and meet Ed and Emily I'd love to ask them some questions I have!

Rex is just adorable. American Alligators are definitely my favorite reptiles. I grew up in south Florida, so I've seen quite a few gators in real life and they're just fascinating/ I love how laid back and mellow they can be. While they have been known to attack people and have caused some fatalities, for the most part they keep to themselves and if you don't bother them, they wont bother you.
That was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Your contractors are going have stories beyond anything they could possibly imagined. That is so much free advertising, awesome.

That had to have been one of their most fun jobs they've been on

I love love the rex prints, it’s a learning piece before they walk in the building. It’s amazing you have that in front because most people would never seen rex print in the wild
noticing her stride, i love how her opposing feet move at the same time and it repeats lol
Rex hit the jackpot when she came to live with you guys. Y'all have taken such great care of her & she's grown so much. Thank you for giving your heart & time to these animals who need love 💜
It's so cute how Rex wanted to go home, and even knew where it is!
You guys should put paint in her foot prints so they stand out so much more! Kids will love it! 🥰🥰
Thanks Rexie!!!!!!!💖🐊💖
i always love seeing a muzzled gator its like
INFINITE BITING POWER completely contained by a few loops of $2 electrical tape
😂😂😂 "phenomenal cosmic powers! itty bitty living space!"
@@oopsallbugs phenomenal cosmic biting force itty bitty opening force
I only recently learned that electrical tape is primarily used bc it sticks to itself and not the gator
I like that you all let Rex walk as they chose and left it. I love the Rexy character now forever imprinted in the cement!!
Makes me so proud to see Rex so big and strong!!! Living her best life 🥺🥰
Emily and Ed - these prints are great! I love that Rex picked her own path and left her lasting statement - like ‘guys I know you want me to go straight… but I’m gonna do this instead’. That’s her and I think it’s lovely and adds so much character to your entrance. It’s also real, she did that and that’s so cool! I love it.
Love the nervous laugh. Fantastic idea to do Rex's footprints. Awesome idea. You guys are amazing!!!!!!
We were there Sunday and it looks do awesome! I saw the preview photo you shared, and I was excited to see it.
The way you washed her feet reminded me so much of how I was my dog’s paws. Rex really is just a scaly puppy.
I feel like rex has gotten a lot stronger in her arms! Shes so tall when she walks!!!
Most interesting thing the construction guys have seen all month
Please do a Rex Health update. How much she had grown since last update and if her mouth is reshaping her deformity back to normal now that she has even more space
I think it’s PERFECT. it’s Rex.s genuine path. She wasn’t forced . It’s wonderful and beautiful and perfect . I love it
Yes, but what I'm waiting for is you turning an old vending machine into a new incubator! Even though seeing Rex explore was adorable.
Glad someone said it first! Don't get me wrong, Rex is goodiest of girls but what about the incubator that's been teased at us!?! XD
Thank you Emily 's Dad!!!! You're the best!
I love all the construction workers just standing there watching 😂
Glad this was a full video. Rex is my favorite girl. She’s adorable.
I was also worried. But, brick or flagstone are acceptable surfaces, right? As long as there's nothing too indented or raised...
@@joshwhat4122 Okay- let's assess this a bit. First, the tracks really aren't that deep. I'm guessing about 1 - 1 1/2 inch (
@@melissajarvis4829 it sure is less accessible for walkers and canes than for wheelchairs, but I as a user of both a wheelchair and a walker (and occasionally crutches) would be uneasy with any aid to use this ramp.
@@joshwhat4122 Whoops! I was still editing my reply. You might want to re-read it, as I hope my intent is now clearer.
Emily: Come on, rex
Rex: Dis is da best corner
Question... if the target stick works why didn't you use it at the opposite side of the ramp?
Keep up the great content
same thoughts.
Aww.
I think it looks so cool! It looks authentic and unique, and the fact that we all know it was Rex makes it extra special😍✨️
You totally made those construction guy’s day! I’ve been on job sites where the customer shows off cool stuff like this and it’s always a treat…..I’ve never seen anything that remotely cool though. Cheers!
It looks so good! I just hope it’s still level enough that people unsteady on their feet can still walk it well.
Now I want somebody to commission a life-size, anatomically accurate Rex statue to sit outside.
"Aw, an' that's our Rex!" -Proud Mamagator Emily
First, you should do Allie too.. I live in Texas and your facility is like 17-19 hrs away but I planned an entire visit around visiting your facility!!! While I'm there I wanna see Sharon and meet Ed and Emily I'd love to ask them some questions I have!
Check the schedule on their website to see which days they're most likely to be there I've heard of people driving a long way to see them and being sad they weren't at the zoo that day
@@michaelajordan3306 I'm definitely going to although I'm not sure how to find that.
I love that she was like "this way? Ok... oh no I want that way" btw I remember when Rex was a "boy", anyone else?? 🤣🤣💜
I love that you made time for the workers ❤
What a tremendous ambassador Rex is for your zoo
I love Rex’s foot prints in the concrete sending ❤️❤️🙏🙏 from Bonnie Scotland
You have inspired me to get a reptile and now I have 14 once you start you can't stop😂. Keep up the good work. Rex is so cute 😁
Love you guys I’m actually so obsessed with Rex she is so cute 🥰
I love that you are leaving the Rex art in place.
0:17 that gnome concerns me
Honestly she did really good and I think the more footsteps the better! It's little alligator art ! 🎨
It looks so cool, I’m truly amazed how much you have grown you showed me that my dreams can come true ^^
Also, great idea!
That was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Your contractors are going have stories beyond anything they could possibly imagined. That is so much free advertising, awesome.
