    • @delinabrinkley5452
      @delinabrinkley5452 3 месяца назад +58

      Instead of blinking , she widens her eyes.. so every time you see her moving her eyes like that it’s because she NEEDS to blink, but she is intentionally choosing not to.
      The reason she isn’t blinking is because most of her scenes are closeups .

    • @obcl8569
      @obcl8569 3 месяца назад +11

      @@delinabrinkley5452 thank you for that explanation! That makes sense. I'd say that's an even more impressive technique then! I know nothing of film in this era, I suppose it's possible that this method (or others like it) were used by other actors of the time as well. Even so, Marylin makes it *unforgettable,* & that is a unique talent.
      As with other things Marilyn is known for that others had used/done/said/worn before her, she may not have been the *first,* but she made it part of the cultural zeitgeist. She elevated it into iconic status. Many other actresses used that eye make-up technique for example, but it is a UNIVERSAL symbol of Ms. Norma Jean's & that was a result of *her* talent & *her* charm.
      Those who accuse her of being unoriginal & list things that she "copied" from other actors don't seem to realize that they are simply highlighting her gifts, aptitude, & flair - the fact that SHE was the one to put all those things on the map despite others having done/worn it/said it/etc. first. It's appropriately flattering to her I think 😁☺️

    • @obcl8569
      @obcl8569 3 месяца назад +4

      P.s. yes, I did indeed say she made things *unforgettable* directly under a comment clearly stating that I had forgotten the fact that she doesn't blink in her close ups 😂
      It's among the less famous iconic things that define her maybe? Lol, anyway... I stand by my general point 😁

      She was a nightmare to work with.
      She struggled with her lines, she was disorganized, always late, and forgot everything.
      She eventually went full out crazy. She claimed she was falsely locked away, but like all inmates she was innocent. However, even long time friends kept her locked up, because they knew she was a danger to herself and others. What happened to her isn't much different than what has been happening to Brittany Spears.

Howard Hughes had to design a new bra for Jane Russell because The Motion Picture Film Association wouldn't let him launch his film of which she was the star because they said that Jane Russell's breasts and cleavage were too large and they were obscene. So Hughes had to go in and re outfit her and reshoot the scenes where she was bending over in front of the camera so they wouldn't shut his movie down. If you listen to interviews of Marilyn she still talks like that but sometimes is a little louder-she had a wonderful laugh. I don't know if the method the speech therapist she had has anything to do with the way she annunciates her words or if that was her acting coach. That's fascinating. Sometimes I talk so fast i start to stutter because my brain is five thoughts ahead. I think that we should all slow down when we speak. Think more linear, myself included. Focus on the here and now. It seems decade after decade we speed our cadence up and shorten our words as the world sped up. We're voluntarily becoming mediocre.
