I saw Epica twíce last year, easily one of the best live bands I have ever seen. The first concert made them go from something I would listen to on occasion, to being one of my favourite bands. Later this year my girlfriend and I will be going to Amsterdam to see them at their "Symphonic Synergy" show, with orchestra and choir live on stage.
This whole concert is simply magnificent. By far the best of all the lockdown digital concerts! Two more stand outs from this concert are ‘The Kingdom of Heaven part 3’ - Omega Alive and ‘Once upon a nightmare’ -Omega Alive
Great reaction and very observant regarding their musical subtlety. A lot of thought goes into their music. Simone’s vocals are unmatched, in my opinion, in terms of switching between styles flawlessly. Although Omega Alive was recorded over five days to accommodate the elaborate stage sets, each song was a single take so Simone’s vocal control throughout is outstanding. Someone said Simone can be Disney Princess, Rock Chick and Opera Queen all in the same song and her transitions are flawless.
The first time I saw this video, I went into full mom mode. I said to myself "Those babies need to be careful with that fire" then I remembered that they're professionals and just enjoyed the performance. Amazing performance!!
Yes, keyboard Coen Janssen is the one you are thinking of. This is sort of live, from the 2021 Omega Alive virtual concert, when the bands still couldn't tour due to restrictions. An intro and 14 songs, spanning just over an hour and a half. Recorded over 5 days, and streamed online together. First performance of some of the new songs from that years Omega album. This song is from the 2014 album, the Quantum Enigma, first EPICA album produced by Sir Joost van den Broek. Unchain Utopia lyrics by Simone, music by guitarist Isaac Delahaye. Simone recorded that albums vocals when her son was about 8 weeks old.
As others have mentioned, The next piece of music you should listen to is Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 from the same Omega Alive virtual concert. This music video is their magnum opus in the same way as Poet and the Pendulum is for Nightwish. Gorgeous music, Simone's perfect voice, and exceptional musicianship. 13 minutes and 31 seconds of perfection.
Omega Alive is easily the best live experience from COVID. Whereas a lot of them fell flat for me, this one went above and beyond and included choirs, acapella, dancers, and an amazing performance by the entire band. I highly recommend you watch the whole experience as it just gets better. Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 is perhaps the best one on there. I for one am absolutely over the moon to seeing them in Amserterdam later this year (2024) when they play with a full orchestra and choir.
@@rnowak85 yeah, even though I am UK based it is a 2 hour flight or an overnight ferry, so easy and cheap. You have a full show in Mexico at least, but that could still be a hell of a travel depending on where you live.
Every time I've seen Epica live Simone has been stellar, never a disappointment. Band are one of the best I've seen, and I go back to 80s Deep Purple as my first live show
I am a fan of a number of really good symphonic metal bands like Therion, visions of Atlantis, Leaves’ Eyes, Delain, Nightwish etc, and I am grateful to all of them for being my gateway up to Epica. 🤘Simone and Tommy Karevick of Kamelot of the most perfect pitch in Symphonic metal as well
I think this is a live registration made during covid era and the whole show with acrobatics and fire is amazing (no live audience and people on stage come not too close to each other). Coen Janssen is a great keyboard player with a huge sense of humor and show.
Eric, the whole Retrospect show with a symphony orchestra and choir, besides a hundred more songs. Outstanding "Rivers a capella" but also with 3 cello's. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Since Nightwish won't be touring any time soon, I am jonesing for my symphonic metal fix. Luckily, I managed to get tickets to both Mexico City and Amsterdam. Some commenters mentioned some songs. If I get to hear In All Conscience live, l will die happy.
Time has not been as kind on the hair front as it has to some of the others in the band but he remains the lynchpin of the band with his brilliant arrangements. He is also a real joy on stage with his humour.
Excellent reaction as always! Well, if you want to find out some aspects about Quantum Physics check out Kingdom of Heaven pt1&2. And if you want to distinguish similarities between Hinduism, Budhism and Christianity check Kingdom of Heaven pt3 (their Ghost Love Score). Greetings from Greece!
Epica are the perfect band for me, they have everything I love.
You perfectly explained why Epica is my favorite band, could not say it better 😁.

So jealous!!! Will be one for the ages!! 🤘🏻

That’s an understatement even!! They went all out!!

So jealous. Wish I could be there but not a simple trip from the US.

Thanks Eric. So nice to have you back to react Epica. Yeah, this was middle of the lockdown time and love Smoons style 🥰
I love this one ❤Simone has great fun with this live
On a side note, i love their songs Abyss of Time, crimson Bow and Arrow and freedom within
Epica is epic... thank you Eric!🤘

That keyboardist Coen must be the coolest of them all! Totally bald head, and still headbanging like a madman. And his keyboards are always rad!
Being Floor my favourite singer for many obvious reasons, I keep saying that Simone owns the most beautiful voice in metal genre...

Yes he is the same keyboard dude that flies around in Consign to Oblivion in Paris

Next song Kingdom of heaven part 1 & part 3 omega alive show . . .🙏
May I suggest "Cry for the Moon" as your next Epica reaction!
I concur!
I concur, here at Omega Alive, or 2004 We Will Take You With Us
Yes sir! Thx Eric! I like this song quite a bit actually. BTW Emppu did some project with Brother time tribe band. Just I know that you love that dude
I know about the Emppu side project and there are suggestions on Discord. I will get to that suggestion as time allows.
Cheers,
Eric
@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark yeah, I figured as much. But decided to ask anyway... Lol
