I think I am the same as you. I have never owned a real Fender Strat, but will buy one some day! Always wanted a black Stratocaster with black scratch plate and maple neck/fretboard. Maybe two, one with HSS (like you) and Floyd Rose tremolo and the other a standard Strat. :)
My Stratocaster is BLACK with a white pick guard. It's not a plain white guard. It has a sea shell appearance to it. It also has a maple neck and fret board. I paid $300 plus I traded a crappy Squier Strat I only paid $60 for. (Still have another Squier Strat I really like) For $360 I got a really nice guitar.
If it sounds good, if it plays well, and if the price is right, I would buy it. This is probably a Squire from what I can see, with maybe a change from the ceramic pickups, although MIM Strats generally use ceramic pickups also. I don't understand why you didn't unscrew the pick guard and lift it enough to view the pots for diameter. Also, you didn't mention the angle of the input jack. Only genuine Strats have the lower angle of entry. What about the thickness of body?? I don't really think you know a lot about American Strats, sorry, but not a bad video anyway!!
I think there is enough superficial red flags before even delving into the minutiae. I don't know much about anything other than food.:D Thank you for dropping by. :)

I got ripped off back in the day, I bought a Fender that ended up to be a fake Strat, I bought it from a music shop in Southsea U.K. In those days, I didn't know there were people out there making fakes or selling them, grrr!
I bought the guitar in the video, knowing it was/is a fake, from a chap who had originally bought the guitar second hand at what might be a reasonable price if it was a real Fender Strat. I think he said he bought it for around £600. He was obviously not very happy about the situation and I think I bought it for around £125 and the chap had said it was fake before selling it to me, so it was all above board. I felt sorry for the chap, as we all do, when somebody gets ripped off.
The neck is definitely not from Fender. I have four Strats and one Tele, all have the brown wood, I'm thinking walnut, in the allen wrench neck adjustment hole. The body may be of Fender design, an authorized body, or just one of many copies made around the globe. The pickguard is worth noting as well, as it is a single-ply, not white on black on white/3-ply. While Fender does make 1-ply, it would be something to look at on the specific model that the guitar is trying to be presented as. Unless it is a vintage model of some kind, most Strats, American and MIM, have 3-ply pickguards. Even my Tele is 3-ply WBW. The whole guitar looks odd to me, from a distance it would pass as genuine, but up close everything about it looks a little off. The string trees are probably the only thing Fender on this guitar, as I have them on two of my Strats, and Fender sells them as replacement parts. There was no mention of whether or not there is a Skunk Stripe on the neck, which is another tell-tale sign. The neck is obviously not Fender made, but it is worth noting for those not familiar with Fender Strats, yet are interested in, or in the market for, one.
RELAYER True, but the majority of those that don't are Squier. This could be a Squier neck, or any number of copies. The transfer edging on this guitar, according to the poster's words, as it is difficult to tell in the video, prove it is not what it appears to be. And, if you are talking the truss rod adjustment hole, yes I saw your videos, the guitar in this video does not have a bullet truss rod. Strats without them typically have the chestnut insert. The only other item of note is the neck date stamp at the heel of the neck. If it is not there, it is most likely a fake. If it is there it still would not be an indicator, because Fender uses whatever neck is available in stock, so often the serial and date stamp do not match, but is a good indicator of the neck being Fender made, yet requires removing the neck to find. Not easy to do with online shopping, nor to ask the seller to do in person. We are talking about how to spot a fake at a glance. This guitar would throw up a red flag and demand a thorough autopsy to prove it's authenticity.
Plenty of red flags as mentioned in the video to assume the Strat is a fake and without even having to take thr guitar apart. Incidentally, I did take the guitar apart and no indicators or identifcation to prove this is a genuine Strat. Like I said, in the video, I pointed out 'some' of the tell-tell signs.
The screw holes on the back plate is a give away too. On a MIM or USA Strat the center hole on the right side is higher than the left side. Most fakes these holes are parallel to each other.
I guess some can be good fakes, if it is hard to tell. The strat in the video plays nice and sounds ok, although not the genuine article. I guess you could get your Mexican Strat checked out by somebody who knows for authenticity. :)
No skunk stripe. On American strats they tend to be quite light in colour, as you say no truss plug. American have wood truss plugs mexican, unless they've upped the quality, are plastic. I would expect to see a three ply scratch plate. And inside a full size trem block. Necks usually feel a bit wide and more solid than mexican ones or squires. I can usually tell holding and playing it if its american. Sweeping statement, bit I've fixed so many different guitars. And had lots pass through my hands.

Dude -__- all you have to do is pick it up, notice it doesn’t have a truss rod Casing and put it back down. Only bullet/affinity Squiers or maybe even off brands won’t have casings. High end quality guitars will always have at least a plastic casing, like a made in Mexico or a high end squier model. But all made in America’s have a wooden casing around there truss rods. Very distinct against a neck with no casing at all

Your arguments are pretty weak dude. You say the serial checks out. A replacement nut is not uncommon in any used guitar. I’m assuming this guitar is used. Just because they did a shitty job is not proof of a forgery. Open it up. You said the saddles were Fender stampedShow us the electronics. Take off the neck. All USA necks are stamped. Let’s see the trem block. The routing of the body is also a good way to verify authenticity. I’m not saying this guitar isn’t a fake, but.....
I'm pretty sure this guitar is a fake Strat. I did actually take the guitar apart, but obviously not for the video and there was no stamp on the neck. I don't think that my arguments are weak, but will bow to your superior knowledge. If I had bought this guitar as a Fender, thinking it was a genuine Fender Stratocaster, I would take it back for a refund. I think there is enough evidence, stated in the video, to strongly suggest this guitar is a fake Fender.
Like I said, I'm not calling it either way. You didn't even mention in your video that you had it open. The items you mentioned were all stamped as Fender. They could be real Fender Squier parts, or Mexican, or USA made. The nut could have just been a bad replacement. The waterslide logo is the only credible proof you presented in the video, and that is credible. That and the truss rod hole trim. But checking a logo or truss rod won't keep someone from getting ripped off. I've heard enough stories of real USA Fender necks on Squier bodies or worse. Here's some better advice: Don't buy any guitar sight unseen if you cant return it. Even if it costs you the shipping, at least you are not stuck with a fake. If you're buying one via a private sale and they won't let you have a professional authenticate it, don't buy it.
There are obviously exeptions to the general rule when finding out a guitar is fake or not. I pointed out some of the discrepancies on this particular guitar and not all discrepancies. I don't know whether the luthier of this guitar was wearing Fender underpants while making this guitar, so didn't cater for a pedantic audience. I mentioned that the nut was probably borrowed from another guitar. Now, if there was one oddity on this guitar, then things maybe more mysterious, but there are more than three oddities and I think that if there are more than three oddities, then there is a strong case for this guitar being a fake, which I believe it is. I mention in the video that the evidence indicates this is a fake Fender Strat. Some of the things you mention, I assume the viewer already knows and has a little bit of common sense. Btw, I have another odd guitar which I will make a video of soon and is a strange Ibanez, so make sure you subscribe to Moonrunner! :D Also, there is obviously room for discussion here about these topics, so if I miss things in video, then you can add your points in the comments here, which you have and which I appreciate, as it will add to all the exisiting knowledge in one easy place. Btw, I'm commenting from my other channel on here, just in case I have confused you! :D
I'd spot that fake at 20 feet due the lack of walnut truss plug. BTW those "genuine Fender Machine Heads" are fake as well - easily bought off ebay for £20. No disrespect, you can clearly play, but its obvious that you are so used to drowning everything in so much effects that you dont know what a genuine US quality strat should sound like clean and how inimitable it is with cheap materials like that one has been made from That sounds like a very cheap copy to me - like I'd expect from Argos for £100 new
I demonstrated the guitar both with and without effects in the video. Yep, machine heads could be fake. I don't think there is actually a genuine Fender part on the guitar in the video. I have played genuine Fender Strats, so know what they sound like. Walnut truss plug was the most obvious and evident giveaway.
If you use words like "I think" or "maybe" or "I don't think" or "don't seem to be" etc., why are you making a video on how to spot a fake? Do you, or do you not, definitively know how to spot a fake?
I think perhaps maybe you are correct and the chances are most likely true and literally correct. However, I think that perhaps maybe I don't have the capabilties to cater for a pedantic and/or autistic audience. :D
the body looks like a starcaster

Yawn.
lets face it the "real" newer strats are crap anyway...💩
Are they really? I want to have a genuine Fender Strat at some point. :)
this guy couldn't figure out a squire or between a USA Strat i have a USA and paul and i still suck ha
*Squier
Does that mean no?
Well, yes and no. :D Just trolling a troller! :D
Moonrunner Music Guess you don't know how to do that either.
Maybe. :o
Well this was easy. The dead give away is that guitar sounds like dog shit. No further detective work is needed on this case.
Case closed then. :D
