The truss rod plug is missing on yours, it should be walnut for American ones and black plastic for made in Mexico ones. Also, that neck does not match what the bridge should be. The biggest giveaway I would say was the price, for $200 I wouldn’t say you were really ripped off, that is way far from the price of an American Strat. You should remove the decal before selling I think. Anyway, really nice playing by the way.
What you have there is a made in China from mid 90s squier affinity strat. Serial number would start with YN. I know these guitars as I have four of them. They are great. Oh and not all fenders have the skunk stripe on the neck look at 60s strats and 60s reissues.
I was browsing around FB Marketplace and i found a Fender Stratocaster "Made In Mexico" for 80 bucks - Philippine Peso/4000 that's too good to be true, when I asked him he claims they bought it abroad 9 years ago "2012" and sent me some pictures, it looks legit, serial number can be scanned from 2008 to 2009 Made in Mexico. but something didn't seem right, so I asked my "Guitar Friends" they say its fake. and then I found this video, very informative my good sir :) it really prevented me from buying that wanna be Mexi Strat :3 Thanks you so much!!!
Haha ok. Have you ever struggled to squeeze any life out of a cheap guitar you don’t enjoy playing? I’ve played cheap guitars that I enjoy, but this was not one of them
@@EricBourassa Yes, but it's not the guitar that is making that decision, it's my mind. That's the only thing controlling my fingers. How about a cheap peavey strat copy through a little pignose amp? ruclips.net/video/D9v5e1TTwts/видео.html
@@davidtomkins4242 I think saying that you don't feel inspired when playing an instrument you don't like is actually quite normal, and I've heard that from players across different instruments and genres. It's hard to feel stoked when you don't like the instrument itself; all you want to do is just put it down. Make sense?

great points. I knew for sure it wasn't American. I thought it was MIM. The person I sold it to knew it wasn't an actual Fender. I made sure he knew

Oh wow! glad this saved you from that
dont blame uninspired playing on the fact that the guitar is cheap

Oh come on now. There's more than a few reasons why players have their favourite instruments. Have you ever played an instrument you just didn't dig?
@@etobicokeguitarschool yes but i didn't blame my playing on it. have a look at the link i posted. blows the argument out of the water
