I asked my cousin who was making a beer run to grab me a $10 scratch off from the gas station. I gave him the money and he bought the ticket for me. I ended up winning $125k. He didn’t ask for any of it and congratulated me on my winnings. I gave him half and he cried. He’s now The Godfather of my 3 year old daughter and I love him like a brother

The split was from HIS $611K that she was going to sue him for, but they reached settlement out of court. She kept her $611K plus she got $261K from his share. $611K + 261K = $872K which is HER total share. He only got $350K vs she got $872K. Afterwards, they owe taxes and attorney fees.

The nephew got $350K, and the aunt got $261K out of HIS $611K. What I don't understand is why the nephew decided to settle out of court. Let her sue. He would have won. His name was also on the ticket just as much as the aunt's.
He's young and it had already dragged on for a year. He was legally in the right but at his age and given the circumstances he made the right choice in just settling out of court so he can move on with his young life with a bit of extra money he didn't have before. Sucks that his relative is such a greedy skank but now he knows that plus he had a year to think of the best use of the money while it was frozen during the negotiation. It must have been really annoying for a very young kid to be sooo close yet sooo far away to such a life changing amount of money for a year.

My old workplace had a lotto group that was very sloppily run by a person who would've been just like her. Luckily we never won a big prize so the inevitable legal fight never occurred over which individuals actually owned a share in the various tickets they organized purchasing.
When a ticket actually wins, anybody who has the slightest proximity to the ticket will align themselves for a cut of the proceeds.
In group purchases, you have to draw a contract among the players including what to do with the player that didn't pay that week. Otherwise you will meet hell in the face if the ticket wins.
It's been 3years but I still find it truly horrifying that the bond between a close relative to be as flimsy as a paper dropped in water just because of greed. The lad can be seen smiling in the videos, but I'm pretty sure he's scarred for life.
