So many things come into play from transmission to the rear and the brakes .. will the transmission handle 700+ Torque.. the rearmed cannot handle that much torque ? With the extra power / speed you need to slow it down from speeds it’s never done, that’s why people buy the AMG version because all that extra comes into play ...
No, we have done extensive tests on the M278 bi turbo exhaust. It handles stage 2 with room to spare. They are massive pipes and catalysts. We have been doing stage 2 on stock components on this model for years with zero problems! If our customers want downpipes and/or headers we do it, but the change in power is barely noticeable. Our testing proves only a gain of 5hp on the dynometer.
In most cases, yes, stage 2 involves DPs. In alot of the Mercedes, it is not necessary though, because of the high quality and flow these pipes achieve...

You definitely want to upgrade your brake pads to something with a better compound. The CLS is a heavy car, and with ~36% more horsepower, and ~55% more torque, it will be difficult to bring that mass to a halt with the regular pads. You will end up never using all of the power if you fear stopping the car, so it will just be a waste. I've gone through this on a number of vehicles, best to treat power equally to braking efficiency.
All this info should be posted by the tuner. If they ain’t open and honest take your money elsewhere. I’d prefer less power if the tuner can tell me ALL the pros and cons. Then I know the cars limits and mine.
Not to burst your bubble but my friend has this same car as a daily with cat delete and it's tuned and it was still slower than my stock 14 E63. Once tuned its not even a race. Like multiple bus lengths by 120
Of course, E63 has 577 HP and 590 TQ stock. But not all tunes are created equal. Your friends tune might be much weaker than the stage 2 Pressertech which lags the E63 in only 37 horses but has much higher torque. Cat delete actually adds very little power which wouldn't be noticeable on the cls550.
Never believe ANYBODY that doesn’t provide proof of their assertions. Especially when those assertions can cost you dearly. Would rip a 63 hey? Why not take it to a track and post a verified time. Why not get one alongside?
We have proven that when we calibrate a M278 to our custom Stage 2 that it will pull away from a stock m157 in the same model. We tune in a different way and calibrate to the clients' driving. A straight line tune is calibrated much different than a road course track calibration. Our clients speak for us. If we ever have the opportunity to do a side by side video of this. A video will be made. I do believe there is a video from one of our clients at a 1/4 mile drag strip with his cls550 stage 2 next to a cls63, and he pulled right away from a stock cls63. I dont remember the difference in timing but it was at least close to a second. Feel free to call us and we can continue this conversation for a better understanding. Yes, if you let the transmission adapt properly, it will handle it just fine
