Hi Amanda! I am burnt out right now but I wanted to quickly share my appreciation for your videos. I am studying communications, organizations and that includes burnout. I will follow your content and share! These topics are so crucial!!!!!!!! And we need more female leaders to share their perspectives from a wide range of industries. I hope to connect with you somehow, if possible. Thank you again for creating this video!
It’s also important to acknowledge healthcare workers work environment is the issue. Nobody should feel less of because they are going through these moments of hardship. Take your breaks. Call in sick without feeling guilty. You are not mentally “weak”. This is an expected response in a dysfunctional machine that prioritizes results over well being. 😊
Totally agree that the environment and culture in healthcare is that we should never call in sick (or there is a negative connotation with those that actually take the days that they need). I do believe that this culture is slowly changing for the better, though!
Like many others that also share a grateful sentiment for your openness and advice, I’d like to say thank you for spending precious time in helping people understand the reality behind the effects of insane schedules and personal ambitions.
Thank you for talking about it so openly, genuinely, and in such detail!! Seeing someone who's so achieved experiencing the same thing as part of their journey definitely makes me feel less alone and more hopeful!!
You're not alone! Training in medicine poses real challenges and hurdles and it's important to talk about them so we can address systemic issues that contribute to these problems. Thanks for watching!
Hi Dr. Xi, great video as always! I've been reading your old blogspot posts (way back when you were still in medschool), and I was wondering if you could make a video on factors to consider when choosing a medical school! I recently got accepted into your alma mater, and it's been a tough decision to make for which school to commit to. Having some insider insight into the school would be awesome
What a great idea on talking about different factors when choosing a medical school! I'll definitely think about this - I think my opinion in some ways is exactly the same as what I had written in my old blogspot posts but in a couple ways is a bit influenced by now finishing residency/fellowship. Good luck on your journey - just remember that at the end of the road, you're going to be a doctor!
Hi Dr. Xi, great video! I just started working as an ICU doctor, I hope you can recommend reference books or learning videos related to basic ICU, thank you!
