Thank you for sharing this tutorial! I have to style two wigs for our Queen Elizabeth in an upcoming musical production about Princess Diana, and barely knew where to start. This was incredibly helpful!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Your explanation was great!. Is there a video for Young Queen Elizabeth II? Back when she had longer hair? Maybe around the Coronation or even a bit earlier, post WWII as a Princess still? I have a long Middy and really want to try to achieve that look. Thanks again.
Incredible tutorial! How often do you think the Queen had her hair set between washes? It seems a long process to do daily for a person that busy. And I do think her hair would be washed more often than once a week. Is it likely that her hair would be permed into this style to keep it in place?
I have done these sets and combouts, been doing hair since the 60's in New York. For sure there is a different way to brush, tease and comb out which I think would last longer.
I have hair that is way too long (and limp and heavy and straight) for most 20th century styles and way too short for most historical styles so i like to experiment, amongst other, with wet sets to see how they "fuck up" on my bland hair cut, what they turn into. Never thought of trying this one, i suppose it would be hedy lamar adjacent Edit: the brush rollers i own are a big wider i might end up with a somewhat stereotypical mod style flicked bob, but longer and looser, can't wait to give it a shot
Sorry, but that comb out is wrong. I have combed out this style so many times. You don't backcomb the back that is going up you just pull it together with a prong comb. Yes backcomb the top to get plenty of height. However, where the first roller went in at the front, if you split the hair in half when combing out - the italian curl bits either side will fall round easier and better.
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. I started my hairdressing back in London in 1974 and through my mentors learnt dozens of sets (as I'm sure you did yourself) and I agree there can be many variations. I would never suggest your way of setting was wrong, just a different take on a classic look. But I am glad you were interested enough to comment, thanks :)
I'm totally ready for those beautiful classic styles to become popular again!
Thanks for demonstrating the technique! 🙂
