Living and working in Hollywood makes this album hit me differently. Chaz makes music that resonates with every phase of my life. Last night I saw the show at Hollywood Forever, a cemetery! I lost my mom while going through my Mahal phase so it was kind of an awkward way of coping with recent losses in my family. I waited until the show to hear this album just like I did when I first heard Mahal at the Hollywood Bowl before my mom passed way. This album hits so different.
I have to admit when the first tracks dropped I wasn't really super impressed. Then I listened to this album in its entirety and am totally blown away! It's really one long song, and I can listen to the whole thing on repeat with great pleasure. Chaz is a genius, one of a kind!

This is sure to possibly divide the die hards from the beginning but that's likely why he took the dive in. He's constantly switching it up, keeping us on our toes wondering which genre or era he would do next. Sooner or later "now" would have to pop up. We both wanted him to stay the same because where he started was perfect and nostalgic, but we enjoyed the journey of the changes and his genre lucidity. New fans catch him in different moments than we met him and for them this will be their starting place and certainly there will be more twists and turns to come but what a journey through the decades we got over the years. Whatever he drops, I'm here for it. A true, boundary-less unlimited creative.
