I heard they did fight one time at this big Hollywood party. Agon got totally wasted on radioactive drugs and started making a huge scene, Godzilla was just trying to calm him down, but Agon swung first, one thing lead to another. Agon had trouble finding with after that, ended up chasing down nuclear subs to get a quick hit, ended up getting arrested

Agon really needs to get a remade movie. Maybe he could appear in a Godzilla movie as a cameo or joke monster that Godzilla Instantly defeats kinda like Zilla.
They could always use Agon as a branch of the Godzilla family tree in the monsterverse.

Agon was NOT a movie. It was a 4 part tv series released in 1968. The same suit was used for the first episode of Space Giants.

Honestly, I like the name. AGON! The Atomic Dragon! If it was a dragon with wings terrorising a different city from a different country. We could have had a giant monster on par with Gorgo or Yongary.

I’ve always been curious about Agon so I’m happy to have watched this video! Congrats on 5k subs!
I had always thought that P-Productions produced AGON. Didn't realize that it was only the monster suit that was used in both Ambassador Magma (Space Giants) and AGON. Agon definitely looked cheezy. Even if it had been released on its originally intended date, I doubt it would have stood up to any of its contemporaries. I bought a DVD burned from the VHS copy from a collector at a convention many moons ago. Best I can say is that it's dark and atmospheric. Some of its footage is replayed from ep to ep in stock fashion. Seeing Agon's foot cause the ground to open, I thought it was so cool when that woman fell in because it's one of the rare times you see a kaiju kill someone... Only to learn that she wasn't dead nor had she fallen that far. Oh well...
I can't wait to learn about this entire saga and how it ties in with "Space Giants" aka "Ambassador Magma" and Toho Studios.

Man I would love to see Agon as a monsterverse Villain. We haven't had Godzilla fight a similar monster like himself since SpaceGodzilla and that film turns 30 years old in 2024.

Congratulations on 7K! I've only subscribed recently after watching your History of Zetton video and have started educating myself with your other videos. If I had to suggest a topic, it would have to be Daimajin; one of my father's favorite monsters. I'll be looking forward to learning about all sorts of familiar and unfamiliar kaiju!

Maybe Agon could be a close relative of Godzilla, maybe like a primitive subspecies, more reptilian and less intelligent than Godzilla's species. And while they would normally not be on friendly terms, the monsters' shared dislike of humans and enemy monsters (aliens, mutants, mechs, etc) could make them powerful allies.

Another excellent video! Thanks! Agon was an incredibly impressive monster who, IMHO, would have fitted into any Toho, Daiei, or Tsuburaya production i can even see him battling the South Korean monster Yongary. An earlier Toho film, VARAN THE UNBELIEVABLE also had a scene where a girl is trapped in a similar fashion during the monster's rampage.

I got a small tidbit of informational text from a website that listed "The Top 10 Greatest Forgotten Kaiju Films". I would send a link, but it seems this website went belly up just a few days hours before. I cannot find this website anywhere!! I unfortunately forgot the name of the website itself. Anyway, according to said website, The Ambassador Magma show later evolved into Ultraman when it was presented to Toho. I have serious doubts about this, seeing as Toho does NOT own Ultraman! I just thought this would be a cool thing to share. Thanks!!

Agon looks like the 2000 version of Godzilla
Personally, I think the reason Toho eventually got OK with Agon is because they were going to try and make money, probably a kind of Godzilla reboot, or maybe a child friendlier monster like Gamera or the 70s Godzilla.
Has anyone found an Agon figure? I did a Google search but can't find the figures shown near the end of this video.
I feel like in the realm of Speculative Zoology Agon would more likely be the result of convergent evolution with Godzilla's species like Dolphins and Sharks for example

From the looks of things, Godzilla will eat Agon for lunch.
He definitely is/was a ripoff of Godzilla, but a nice ripoff. And no doubt the Japanese audience, always hungry for more Kaju content, probably loves Agon.

"Kiryu Saga Godzilla's Abilities": Amphibiousness, Atomic breath, Energy absorption and projection, Physical abilities, Durability. Kiryu Saga Godzilla's Weaknesses: Chest wound and Mothra Larvaes' Silken Cocoon. "Anti-Godzilla weaponry":
MechaGodzilla: A third version of Mechagodzilla, Kiryu, appeared in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. This time, the mecha was built around the skeleton of the original Godzilla from 1954. However, DNA in the bones caused Kiryu to remember that it was once Godzilla and it went on a rampage.
Once the JSDF was able to get Kiryu under control, it forced Godzilla to retreat. Godzilla and Kiryu would meet again in Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., but this time, Mothra would intervene. Mothra demanded that Godzilla's bones (inside Kiryu) be returned to their grave. The JSDF agreed, but only after Godzilla was defeated.
Ultimately, Kiryu made the final decision and returned to the sea on its own will, carrying Godzilla with him and plummeting into the ocean.
Maybe next should be a 10K Subscriber special, maybe ghidorus or whatever the monster's name is.. altough this may be a brutal one!
I feel like Agon should get another series, in the first 10 episodes, he attacks Japan for no sudden reason, then for the rest of the series, there is a group of seijin who unleash their monsters on Japan, and Agon has to stop them, it's similar to how the showa Godzilla became a hero

The thing that has always puzzled me about the origin of Agon is: Why? Let us not kid ourselves, the show/movie barely had anything to bring to the table: Agon himself was a cheap-looking Godzilla knockoff, the characters were bland cliches at best, despite the narration the actual nuclear theme was weak (compare to Gojira, where the subtext is well-woven throughout the story and presentation), the production values were virtually nonexistent to the point that there wasn't even an actual soundtrack, even for the planned release date of 1964 the production was already quite outdated, and the latter half with the cocaine boat was stupid even by the standards of the genre. The question I always find myself asking is, what the hell was Sekizawa even thinking? What made him think Agon could stand amongst its contemporaries even back then? That there was enough material for 26 episodes, when the 4 we got were a complete snoozer? That rolling out such a blatant, cheap ripoff of Godzilla would NOT draw the ire of Toho, the very company he worked for? I can't help but wonder what behind-the-scenes circumstances led him to pursue this production, when the whole thing seems like such obvious folly.

"Dimension Tide":
The Dimension Tide was introduced as a weapon within the events of the film, being a weapon capable of firing a black hole. A black hole was fired at Godzilla as the craft began to crash land back to Earth. Godzilla countered the black hole with a blast of atomic breath, which resulted in an explosion, with Godzilla vanishing as the smoke cleared, having been seemingly killed by the weapon He was later revealed to have survived. However, the weapon was effective in at least subduing him for a few days.

A twister Seijin named alien scrape attempts to destroy the world by having them battle to death. However, they instead team up to fight the toku professor and the hero, yellow chipmunk.

If they ever met, Godzilla would have fried Agon even faster than he did to “Zilla”.
On the other hand, if Agon ever fought “Zilla”, Agon would have surely beaten him, though it would have taken longer.
