I lived in Shrewsbury in the early to mid 1970s. I can just about remember this shopping centre. It looks a bit smaller than I remember, but then I was very small myself back then!
Blimmy look at Riverside it was so full of happy times and business what the hell is going on in this town ,,,I used to work at cheers night club 1987/88 what times they were and go shopping with me mum in the 1970s to quick saves happy shopping days ☹️ I hate these times thanks for sharing Best wishes phil 👍
@Stuart RussellHope you had a good time there 👍 I heard it had a weird shaped pool table? (I’m not sure If this is true tho?) Any memories of it? Thanks for the comment
What a shame eh,so much potential i would imagine,i see this was in febuary, not that long ago,so am guessing not a great deal of change, looks like a huge space too
I’ll check back there when I’m next nearby, I read in the local free paper the other week that work was going to commence soon 🤷♂️ I’ve heard that before tho 🤣👍
It’s very sad seeing these shopping malls empty, but as we’ve said before, the massive increase in online shopping, boosted further by the pandemic, has killed off most of those that were previously hanging on by their fingernails. The Charles Darwin centre was never completely occupied, to my memory, even back when it first opened in the 80’s. The first floor ( for some reason ) was always more occupied than the ground floor was. I suspect this recent high street decline is a reflection of many other town centres in the UK, although that’s no consolation when these places start getting derelict and run down ( whoever owns them!). It’s gonna be tough to re-purpose these sites I reckon!
