I appreciate your being supported by a brand and assume/know they give you money to talk about their product. But it REALLY bothered me that, there you are, being treated for cancer and in the hospital for a stem cell transplant - in the bathroom doing essentially a commercial. I saw in Instagram that you are out of the hospital now. I truly hope your spirits are better. We are all thinking of you and sending our most since wishes for your recovery and health and happiness. If you haven’t been seeing a therapist during your illness, you should be and need to be. It is a significant life change and it’s easier to have therapy ongoing to manage fires rather than waiting till the fire gets out of control and trying to have a therapist help put it out. I have a life-threatening disease I will never be rid of and I can’t say how important it is to get therapy.

@Holly Daugherty Yes, definitely. Especially with cancer...your hair grows back, you’re able to do (if you’re lucky) most of the things you used to be able to do and people treat you like someone who’s never been sick. Because you look “normal”. But others don’t see the exhaustion and the massive impact it had on you emotionally. And some people will expect you to feel “normal” again, too. So I think you are absolutely right, seeing a therapist is so beneficial, because you get to talk to someone who is able to help you navigate through all those emotions.

@@laurelowens8162 I'm sorry you got such a bad experience with therapy. It sounds frustrating for putting faith in something that ends up not going well and I can relate to an extent. But there are a lot of people who have great success with therapy and I find it a bit irresponsible to discourage them from seeking help. For a while I was getting fed up with my therapy but thanks to me continuing and to my therapist for being patient, I was able to curb my panic disorder for years until I got it back recently. So I say I suggest everyone at least try to do it and even try a few different therapists. It's not a lost cause and the field of psychology is always evolving! You'll learn something new. Just open your mind and give it a chance.

I feel ya Romee!!! I'm 68 years old - when I was around 14ish I learned how to crochet; I think my maternal grandmother taught me. I crocheted a beautiful large doily out of variegated yarn and gave it to my grandmother. From that time on (she lived to be 91) she had that doily on a little table in the living room underneath a small table lamp and later placed my high school graduation photo next to it. I brought the doily home after her funeral but I have no earthly idea how to crochet now!! I also knew how to knit and in my early 20's I learned to needlepoint and made quite a few things doing that. I'd like to crochet again so I purchased a book at a used book store as well as some yarn & crochet hooks at Walmart. Still haven't gotten around to trying to learn again.

    Romee,
I believe that each of us enter into a soul contract that we make before our birth. In this contract we have what lessons we are to learn, what challenges we are going to have to over come to learn those lessons, who we choose to be our parents, when and how we are going to live and when and how we are going to die. Each of us have our own unique journey in life and in death, unfortunately most of us don't remember entering into these contracts and it is hard to accept the illness / death / heart ache /suffering of those we know and love and those we see on TV/ you tube / on the news and third world countries because we have empathy and we want so badly to take the pain / grief away and replace it with comfort and love.
I have cried watching your journey and I have so so badly wanted to remove your illness and fill your life with nothing but rainbows, fairy floss, endless days of sunshine for you, your family and friends. It's completely natural. Sending you lots of healing energy and positive vibes, you are such a strong woman. a role model to all that are facing struggles in their lives, that they too can follow their dreams and accomplishments.

Oh sweetie, I am so in tune with you it hurts. I am a 2-time cancer survivor and so is my daughter, and we have both discussed feelings like yours so often. I love that you are so open and honest about your feelings because too many of us hide those away with the shame they rode in on and leave them there, unresolved. But I have also found (and I see this in your videos as well) that so many of my inner gifts became much more visible during treatment. I have always loved to laugh, and my grown children and I share a gift for "dark" humor :) and I found myself laughing at the most unusual things during treatment. My gift of compassion rose to new heights with others. My gift of calling things as I see them, rather than how I imagine them, served me very well and kept me from believing the lies we tend to tell ourselves about that future we had carved out that might not be there. You keep doing you and you will come out of this intact. People like to call us warriors and then we feel we have to live up to that by soldering on when we should be in the sick bay. You are allowed to cry. I used to cry in the shower so I could watch those tears wash down the drain, never to return. Each day has it's onw individual tears. Many a good sleep has been birthed by a well of tears. Sending love and grandmotherly hugs to you.

Sometimes a good cry is the best thing you can do! When my daughter was growing up and one of us had had a tough day we would pick out a “crybaby movie” and watch it together. The whole point of the movie was to let out the bottled up emotions by using the movie as a jumping off place. There were times that we didn’t even finish the movie because as soon as we were able to talk about our rough day we would just talk and talk. We had some of our best conversations after those movies. But I love your cry in the shower approach! I can see how you could feel refreshed after one of those outpourings. However you deal with this journey, Romee, it is the right way! Your entire purpose right now is to just “be”. Crying, laughing, crocheting, or writing letters, all of it is good! I love just listening to you! I get so excited to see that you have posted. You are brave and you are strong! And you are not alone!!!

Survivor's guilt is real as I am sure you know. I think writing the letters is a wonderful idea and I like someone's idea about burning them if you want.
I am not sure you want to hear this, but I also agree with those bringing up the idea of talking to a therapist. I hate feeling like I am overstepping boundaries, I just know from my personal experince that there are major misconceptions about therapy in the NL.
I support you and I hope that you are feeling better!

hi Romee I hope you are doing better. I've been watching your videos but I never commented until now. I too am fighting cancer. I'm Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Basically terminal. This is my 2nd time fighting. I was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2015. I beat then but I found out a year ago it came back and spread to my bones. My left femur and left clavical spontaneously broke. Had emergency surgery and found out through scans that the demon was back. I as well wondered why some lived and some die. All I can tell you is there is no rhyme or reason to this disease. It doesn't discriminate. We all have our path and we all have our journey. I could die at anytime. Doesn't have to be cancer. It could be a plane crash or car accident. You never know. We are chosen to tell a story about survival and what we go through. And hope it may help someone. Or make someone feel they are not alone. Don't think about why me, why do some get to live longer. We all don't get out of this life alive. Thinking about that stuff just robs us of going on with life. It's survivors guilt. Completely normal to feel that way. It's ok not to be ok. Just don't get complacent with it. We are going to have our bad days and good days. Just know you are not alone in feeling this way. Just live life the best you can. Listen to that song from Tim McGraw " Live like you are dying". It gets me through a rough patch.

Hey Rommee, I’m not sure you will ever see this, but that’s okay. You are loving and kind and so relatable. What you were feeling after, wondering why you, is called survivors guilt ( this is of course in no way excluding other things that you have in your mind). You are going through something that most find traumatic, and you are being so brave and open and navigating it in ways I’m not sure I ever could. Thank you for sharing your journey with such honesty and integrity. I hope you get all the closure you need.

I was hospitalized for a year and I thought about suicide many times, I was depressed , desperate and angry. Don't feel guilty to be alive, you have suffered and fought so hard and despite many people too and still died is not our fault to be here . I hope your treatments work and you never deal with cancer ever again .

Search the crochet stitches on your laptop. They will show how to do the stitches. First up find out if the pattern is UK or US. Stitches are done differently in those countries. Once you know that, the rest is easy to follow on the Internet. You just say UK, or US after your stitch request. I hope that helps.

Edit: That cardigan when you are doing the puzzle, looks so comfy! Always start with the corners and edges of a puzzle.
Another edit: Hugs to you! It's ok to cry. It's pretty cathartic. It gets it out. I think you're doing so well, and I promise I'm not being patronising! I love that you're being real.

I am glad you're showing us both the ups and the downs. You're on a wild and difficult journey.
Also, you're allowed to say what you need to say to the people who need to hear it. You're allowed to seek closure. You're allowed to tell people they've hurt you or let you down. You don't have to write the letter and never send it - you can send it. The only thing you have to be prepared for is that they are also allowed to respond, and it might not be what you want to hear (or maybe it will be something good that will make room for healing, either together or apart).

I do a lot of chrocheting. And I did expect you to fail with only pictures instructing you how to do the stiches (it is so hard to understand with only pictures!!!). So not worries! I think you can make the giraffe, I would advice you on watching RUclips videos and practice chanis, and the basic stiches. You can use the yellow yarn to practice, because you can just remove the hook and then pull the thread to unwind the whole thing and then use it again! So practice if you are bored. It is quite frustrating in the beginning, but I promise you will get the gist quite fast if you watch tutorials😊and then you would soon freestyle small animals!

It amazed me how just putting it down on paper relieved so much of what I had been feeling about certain people and a few I mailed but most I was able to just let go of. You will find afterwards that you no longer carry that baggage around with you. It also works on situations or events not just people.

Maybe start a project? Something you can work on most days..... Like a handstitched quilt or wall hanging or knitting something for Winter or something that interests you....
Also indoor exercise if you're up to moving a little. Like gentle stretching even can be so good for your wellbeing if you're having to stay in one spot. I live quite an isolated life so I vaguely map out each day with a loose plan so the day can be full and somewhat fruitful. A bit of movement, leisure, project, creating a good mix.
Ps... I always find in periods of confinement towards the middle is the hardest, then before you know it the end is in sight

Dear Romee: When my son was going through Chemo he had to have medication to calm him down before he started each chemo session. His anxiety was so great he couldn't cope without it. Not many people talk about the mental health aspects of having cancer and also when you are in remission, and it should be talked about. My son is cancer free, like you he had a stem cell transplant, but still gets very anxious when he has to see his oncologist for follow-up appointments. All I can say is stay positive, be strong. You have a whole life ahead of you Romee. I'm rooting for you! Big hugs from Toronto, Canada

I just want to recommend a couple of You Tubers who have either remarkable journeys or beautiful drone footage that help me escape. My favorite is “Sailing Uma” -a couple who have spent the winter sailing the Norwegian fiords this past winter. Their boat is electric so no noise & their photography sensational. “Forestry Forest” -a very modest fellow who lives in a van in Western Canada. He goes on a couple of “hikes” every week to the top of mountains! His drone work is sensational, especially when you see him on the mountain top, a tiny speck on the top of rugged steep mountains. At the end of his 20+ km hike, he cooks a gourmet meal… Another is “Itchy Boots” a single woman on her motorcycle current biking through Namibia … this I just find interesting as I never plan on going there 🥴. Sometimes we just need to be distracted by the beauty of nature. 💝💕❤️

Survivors guilt is real and if you realise someone is going through it, please talk to them and make them understand that it's not their time and they have so much left to do. If you feel like crying then let it all out but don’t feel bad for doing so. As for Ziggy the Giraffe you could learn how to do this by going onto RUclips. That’s the way I’ve been able to crochet things. Good idea to stay away from things that will trigger your emotions! You really rocked it with the colouring in and it didn’t effect your mood. Even things like going to my oncologist’s office for follow ups, and being able to see into the room where patients were getting their chemo … that was rough. I even felt guilty for being there with [my own natural] hair! And heaven forbid someone should compliment my hair! I was undone for the rest of the day. Be gracious with yourself.
