Send them an email informing them that these administrative mistakes are causing you severe emotional distress and this has been affecting your mental well-being. Do not worry about being a 'Karen', this is your health, your life, and if you feel you aren't getting what you need, you have every right to speak up.

Agreed. An email is a good idea. The chances are higher that your complaint is forwarded than if you just mention smth one time to one person.
As a patient the hospital has an obligation to look after your health. You are also their client/customer and as a business they should not be making these kind of mistakes.

I was in the medical profession for 42 years. The fastest results is to go straight to the top ( hospital administration ), with a written (certified) letter that someone has to sign for , with your detailed events leading up to your letter. In my opinion, that usually gets the fastest results cause administrator don't want the bad press. Bad press=fewer patients=less $$$.

But you don't know if something is actually wrong with you or not without testing. I went to ER with neck pain one time. Doc and nurses said it was anxiety. Forced me to take lorazepam. Romee, i understand how you feel with hospital miscommunication, While i personally aren't going through any medical conditions. My father passed in 2018, and what we were told then really effected the whole experience in a way that i'll never forget. On March 31st my dad went to urgent care due to issues breathing, They did some scans and came back and said that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer, and that he needed to be transferred to the hospital that same night, i got a phone call from my mom saying that he'd been diagnosed with cancer and i couldn't contain myself. I started bawling and bawling, While i was crying my eyes out she handed the phone over to my dad where he said "hunter, you know that i'll be alright, these doctors know what their doing, your coming to the hospital and your gonna see me and everything is going to be alright" I said "Alright dad, i'll see you when we get there". My mom had told me to pack some clothes while she was headed home to get us, We took showers and got ready, She was hoping to get home before they transferred him to the hospital. My dad being my dad tried talking them out of taking him then and was hoping they'd let him stay until we got there. He called my mom and told her they were transferring him now. So, when my mom got home we drove to the hospital and he'd beat us before we got there. As we walked onto the floor we listened to maybe hear him talking, we heard him cough and immediately knew where he was. I walked into his room and gave him the biggest hug i've ever given him. After that it was around 12:00 Midnight on Apr 1st. I remember telling my dad "i wish this was an april fools joke" But it clearly wasn't. On the morning of the 1st, we learned that he didn't have cancer and that the other hospital misread the scans, And we were told that he'd only need IV antibiotics for about 2 days and that he'd be on his way out. 2 days go by and he's still in the hospital. The doctor ordered a tissue graft? to grab tissue from his lungs to make sure there wasn't any cancer in there. When he came back from that he was tired, slept most of the time.. didn't really eat much and was restless alot. On the night of Apr. 4rd we went home and took shower's got cleaned up and planned on heading back to the hospital first thing in the morning. As we were 4 miles from the hospital we got a call from my dad, and he sounded congested, nervous, freaking out saying "You need to come get me out of here" "I cant breath help me!" "hurry please!!!" he was acting this way due to a lack of oxygen and choking on his own blood because of the tissue removal they did a day prior. When we walked into his room, he was sitting on the side of his bed, with his IV pulled out. Blood all over the floor, The emergency call light blinking, and noone in sight. After trying to calm him down it just kept getting worst. a nurse from the ICU came in a shoved a suction tube down his nose to try to pull all the old blood out of his throat and lungs, He obviously reacted horrible to that and due to that they had to put him to sleep with some drugs (that i'm not sure of the name) The nurse said that he was going to the ICU with her. So, we started packing out stuff to move to the ICU with him. I've never been through so much stress in my life at this point. After my dad sat in the ICU asleep for a few hours. he woke up and my older brother came in and they ate a birthday cake from my older brother's daughters birthday. That night everything was going great and the ICU nurse said that he might be able to go back to a normal room. So, with us feeling fairly confident that he'd be alright under the care of the ICU staff and nurses, we decided to go home because we had been at the hospital for 3 days without showers. So, we go home get showers get a bite to eat and go to bed. We get a call at 12 midnight saying that he had tried to get out of bed and fell on the floor, and we were told that he layed in the floor for.......... 30 MINUTES, without oxygen... 30 FUCKING MINUTES. and someone SOMEHOW didn't hear the machine alarms going off, or the fall at all. So, we headed back up there as soon as we got that call and sure enough they put him on the ventilator. we stayed awake waiting to hear something from the doctor about what the hell happend, and where to go from here. The doctor said that they wanted to try to stop the bleeding that occurred due to the past biopsy's. They took him back and came out about 30-45 minutes later and found nothing, said that everything "looked okay" and was hoping the bleeding would stop. Well, it did for alittle while, but after a day we noticed a bright blood look coming up his vent tube, and we knew that it wasn't old blood due to it being a light color. So, they wanted to go in 1 more time to try to fix everything. At 4:45PM on April 13th they called him back. We went into the cafeteria and i tried to eat something, i had eaten a subway sub and headed back up to his room to see if they'd heard anything. They said they hadn't, and i was still hungry so i decided to go back and grab another sub, i went back to the ICU and when i walked into his room my mom was at the door and said "he's not going to make it"... And i cannot express the shear... shock... disbelief... feeling that the world is crumbling beneath you feeling i've ever had. Trying to hold on composure long enough to say my final goodbye's to my dad who had been my best friend forever, he started teaching my how to work on things when i was 4 years old, he started teaching me how to make fires, teaching me how to cut the grass, weedwack and all the essentials that you need to know in life, and no matter what words i'd used in that moment, it would've never put all that he's given me into the proper light. the moments when they were unhooking the vent, essentially his lifeline, there's a feeling that comes with that, that is so.... crazy? indescribable? its just a feeling that you only have 2 times in your life. on one hand i was happy that he wouldn't be suffering anymore, but on the other hand the thought of never being able to talk to him again really started to set in. I tried my best to not cry around him before he passed. But, it was the hardest thing i've had todo. Then he took his final breaths and that was it.... if you read the whole thing, thank you to the bottom of my heart. It felt good to be able to explain this story, even if noone sees it. It's nice to get some of the anger from the event off my chest. Thank you!

I read through your whole post. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am a retired health care worker. I was a Hospice case manager for years. The treatment that your father and your family endured was utterly unacceptable. I am so sorry for the trauma that all of you experienced. Bless you. If you feel that you want to, your local Hospice (if you live near one) usually have post loss grief counseling and support groups that can be really helpful for processing grief and some have counseling that directly deal with traumatic and sudden and unexpected death as well. A lot of Hospices offer those services at no or very low cost. ❤

Hi Romee! I've been following your journey for a little while and first and foremost I want to celebrate you and your strength through all the things you have faced on your treatment journey. Patients like you are the reason why I loved working in a hematology/oncology office for three years. I am currently in nursing school and want to be an oncology nurse when I get my RN! Your resiliency, as well as so many of the young Hodgkin's patients I have gotten to know over the years, inspires me so much. I know people throw the word "inspirational" a lot at people experiencing cancer - but I assure you it's not a cliche, it's the truth.
Now, onto the scheduling component - I am SO frustrated for your sake. I don't know how it works in the Netherlands, but in the US we have dedicated schedulers and care coordinators that work alongside nursing staff and doctors/providers to create a patient's treatment schedule. Unfortunately, as there are so many moving parts in the puzzle of cancer treatment, sometimes less organized offices can miss things and screw up a schedule, which totally sucks. Or, you just may have gotten the wrong nurse or scheduler at the time who may not be the best workers (there are definitely nurses you want to have on your team, and others that may make way more mistakes or are less hard-working).
My advice to you - am not sure if there is a patient advocacy department in your hospital (we have them in the US) but I would call them and tell them all the times the hospital screwed up your schedule or did not communicate properly. Just because they are oncologists, or nurses, does not mean they are infallible and always do things correctly for the patient. It should NOT be your responsibility to do this whatsoever. Hopefully, by you voicing your frustrations and calling them, and holding them accountable, this won't happen in the future. Either for you, or any future patients who may have a similar experience you have.
I am thinking of you, sending good vibes, and hope this second course of chemo shows some response.

Expecially with what she is going through too! Not the same but I had to wait 8 months (uk) just for an abdominal scan, only to have to wait 4 Months for the results to be told they were normal after all. I was angry and frustrated at that, so I can't even imagine how she must be feeling with what she's going through! It's completely unacceptable and she had every right to be angry

I’ve been through this with a couple of family members, and advocating for yourself sadly is a full-time job. One thing that might help is if you can designate a friend or family member as a medical fiduciary who can make calls regarding your treatment on your behalf. (I’m in the United States, but hopefully you have something similar where you are.)

I would recommend to really do pressure on the Hospital and if they dont communicate with you, then change the Hospital if possible. Oh and i would also consider to maybe get somebody to help you with all the appointment stuff, treatment plan etc. So you dont have all this stress and you know that there is somebody taking care of it. Stress is really bad and can worsen the health condition of a person especially when the person is allready sick so its no shame when you get help in this sense! I wish you all the best!

As a nurse student from the hospital you go to, its really really bad to see that they didn't inform you better or communicated such (hard) info in a terrible, unpersonal way. During my internship in that hospital, I often found that doctors usually forget such important calls with patients outside the hospital or with family. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon and that the chemo is easy on you❤
