I’ll add one to this list. Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight. I’d overlooked it for a while but when I saw the S110V version in stock I had to snag it. It has dominated my rotation since it came in. Hair popping sharp out of the box and fits my giant hands nicely. Smooth action out of the box, perfect centering, zero blade play, solid lockup. Thank you for featuring the Rambler again. I have been singing the Rambler gospel for many years, now, and I'm so glad to see both of you hyping it, so more people will buy that model, and it will remain in production for many years to come.
As a lover of all things Knife....I just love you guys...I became a knife lover watching old Tarzan movies as a small boy... At 63 im still buying knifes just because I did not have that one... Lol Folders, belt, and machetes I have my grandfather's corn knife, and Barlow.
🔥🎸🔥 The Hogue Trauma is my work knife. Feels great in my hand, has a "work safe" Sheepsfoot blade and the seat belt cutter is great when you need to cut some small nylon rope or zip-ties that your buddy is holding or that'sclose to sensitive electronics. The glass breaker won't hurt in a self defense situation either. Totally underrated has an EDC.
David, I never understood your fascination with the Vagabond, that was until I held one at a local knife store. I didn't buy one, but I certainly understand what you like about it. Since I already own 15-20 Civivi knives, I didn't get it, but it certainly is a great EDC choice.
Been eyeing a mini presidio since the 1st gen. The 2nd gen CF elite was a must buy. No regrets. Funniest episode so far. "Tailstands...' 'Great..." haha.
The Rambler also has a toothpick inside the handle too!! :) Carried this around for years and years in the 90s. Knife edge and scissors were scary sharp as hell! Underrated for sure.
Former Rescue worker here! “A Rescue Knife” that I favor has a partially serrated blade, so that it can cut wet clothing or bloody seat belts. I also want a strong non liner lock system.
Two of my favorite knife guys. I really like the SAK Rambler, the Phillips screwdriver sold me. I’m really off the Chinese knives, so it was nice to see a few alternatives.
Brisa/Enzo (I knew them as Enzo when I was last active in knife space circa 2010) make great knives and they were, at the time, really responsive to criticism and would change ergonomic and other issues fairly quickly. For instance, at one point the deep-carry clip on the Birk was mounted near the middle of handle making it a serious hotspot and rather defeating the point of the deep-carry clip. Enzo/Brisa made fixed blades (including blanks for aspiring knifemakers), a two-hand opening slipjoint and a linerlock, then added in a lockback, etc in both Scandi and full-flat blade geometries and a couple of knife steels. On the budget end there were EKA of Sweden and Mora of Sweden (now Morakniv) and Martinni (sp?), while the high-end fixed and occasionally folding were Karesuando, Helle, etc.
I have been carry a Rambler variant daily for years. It was labeled Golf. Bought three of them gave two as gifts to golf buddies and keep mine. Divot tool instead of file... might be a good seller for you. Love mine. In my pocket everyday!😊
I've (ab)used an Enzo Birk 75 for years! The action is silky smooth and snappy, and it blows through camp tasks while saying "Thank you sir, may I have another?]" and laughing! It is my #1 choice for an outdoor folder to compliment my larger fixed blade.
Hey DCA, I have to ask again, I carry the Benchmade Mini Loco 818 and I can't find any custom scales anywhere. Do you know where I can find any or another comparable knife that will scratch my itch for a new look without compromising it's overall usefulness?
The Gerber Principle is another really good underrated knife. An affordable scandi is hard to find. Mine has carved plenty of wood so far and the spine is very sharp for striking a ferro rod. It's a sleeper for sure.
That serapis man...i tell you..super beautiful...this is my very first time seeing that knife and hear the brand...you guys should really cover their product to introduce to us
Hi Seth, greetings from Holland and thank you for bringing the Watu under my attention again. I liked the looks of it when it was introduced but more or less forgot about it. After your presentation I ordered one and boy do I like it! One of Spyderco’s best.
Very nice casual and laid back review of an item 🔪 I rarely use or need, yet I still found to be very interesting and informative. Thanks for sharing. 😉👌🏻
Hey fellas, been watching for a while now. Great work! I think the spyderco Astute is top of my list in underrated knives. I think it needs more air time and some variations from spyderco. Good video idea!
I totally agree on the James Brand Carter. I've seen a lot of criticism online for it being "just marketing" and using VG-10 for the blade at that price point. The Carter feels great in-hand, has a sturdy and sharp blade, and it completely took the place of the Bugout that was in my pocket before.
Marttiini Finland 4in Fillet knife. Excellent through tang design. Nothing better for kitchen prep around the campfire. Takes a crazy wicked edge when stroped. I mink oiled the sheath to point of hydrophobia and sanded/stained the handle blood red. Weighs almost nothing. Perfect neck knife
The Hogue Deka really needs more love in the community. It might be the most "slicey" cross car lock knife that I have used. I think most people are distracted with all of the screws in the scales than take the time to actually look at the significance of knife with its affordable price point and 20CV steel.
I highly suspect that it is the only cross car lock that you have used. I haven't had the pleasure yet. I plan to pick one of these up in the near future.
Great vid! Some hidden treasures there! My favorite underrated knife is the Kizer Catshark. Detent style “lock” with flipper (like the Small Archaeo) AND it spidie-flicks like a dream, so the fidget factor is off the charts. The large finger choil makes this tiny guy a full 4-finger grip for the average hand. The full belly goes thru cardboard like butter. The M690 steel holds a very respectable edge and and it’s easy (fun almost) to sharpen. Great looking black micarta handle with an orange pivot ring. And only $79! I think I just talked myself into buying another one.
I said it once and I’ll say it again but the Benchmade 980 Turret is an amazing knife and although I use it for outdoor utility rather than tactical I can chop branches, baton, and carry it on the work site confidently knowing that it will not fail. Highly underrated in my opinion
Any tips for growing a killer mustache like Seth? 🤔 100% love the Watu pick. I agree it is extremely underrated. So many people sold them on the secondary market when it came out because they didn't like it. It's a top 5 Spyderco for me, top 3 if you only consider primary carry Spyderco knives. Theorizing about what it would be like to go years without buying a knife was pretty hilarious haha I used to own an Enzo Birk as well! If you guys are going to start carrying them, PLEASE request their scandi slijoint (PK70)!!! Maybe in burlap micarta or textured Ti?? Yes, Moki is awesome! Chances are lots of people already have knives made by them without realizing it. Moki actually manufactures knives for many other brands (all the Falkniven folders and many Seki City Spydercos, for example). The knives they sell under their own brand are very reasonably priced for the quality and really show off the level of the work they are capable of.
ive love the craftmanship in moki knives for years now my favorite is the all black one with the large pivot silver cap that is so perfectly smooth and shiney ..when ever i hear gentlemans knife i think of this moki knife its perfect for your pocket if you wear a suit to work ...a clip is not needed thank robin... batman...for picking this knife mokis rock !
Hey guys! The presidio looks tempting! Do you think it would be a good replacement for my s30v freek? Love that little knife, but the lack of rigidity in the handle makes me grab my four max or my pocket fixed blades so much more over it
I think the Badlands was extremely easy to pass over, it had VERY similar lines to several previous models…just kind of a cookie cutter knife in their line up. It’s not a bad knife at all and the materials are perfect for the price, just sort of mundane in their lineup. Staying with Civivi though, I think the Pintail is definitely underrated! Really great materials and action, spot on price point…remove the flipper and it has even better ergonomics! Runner up would be the Real Steel H6 Blue Sheep edition…highly underrated hard use knife!
Mini presidio would lend itself well to a murdered out version given the full black liners and hardware, all they need is a black blade and voila, tactical practical baby. Tremendous video boys!
Interesting video, as always. I'd single out the Cold Steel Rajah III as a seriously underrated and versatile folder. Yes, it is definitely built with tactical considerations in mind, but it is surprisingly effective for daily tasks, and especially for food prep.
I just bought a Kubey Knife (KU219)with Aus 10 Japanese steel with stainless steel liners and G10 scales for $60. This knife has some impressive workmanship with ball bearing flipper system. Great video... but no bloopers? 😁
The Mimni Presidio II is a great knife that will likely be my next folder. I got the full set zed last uear... Love it... Picked it over a Crooked River... "No Regerts" 😁
Well, purely because of your efforts, guys, I am now officially an admirer of the James Brand Carter and Carter XL. I've been having a strangely hard time buying a seriously premium folder. I figured it was time to pick and enjoy one but have had more than one disappointment with uncentered blades, dirty scales, rough action, just bad quality control generally. That Carter caught my eye with that gentle Loveless arc from the tip to the back end of the handle and the subtle handsomeness generally. No more expensive than any pretty nice knife, I suppose not the high-end steel du jour, but such a premium vibe. If you don't get approving nods from your buds when you pull this out to open a bag of jerky, get buds with better taste. 😅
Great selections and thoughtful reasoning.... glad this wasn't just like a rundown of "stuff we have in the warehouse we can't sell" lol And I couldn't agree more, the Enzo Birk is CRIMINALLY underrated.
That James brand knife is one I've wanted to like. I've heard a lot of negative reviews which have scared me off. I may still have to try it (for obvious name reasons)
Gentlemen I really like the contrast between you two. I’m an older gentleman as in in high 50 years. I watch both the knife Center and the Blade HQ videos. I am in sales so I am constantly looking for a knife that disappears. I see too many people on a regular basis so discreet for me is the key. That usually means something that doesn’t pop out. There are so many people looking to but knives including myself And I refer back to discreet. You deserve so many more followers so you need to let’s say get a little more out of your comfort zone. Not that I don’t want to see your videos because I truly enjoy them but change it up a little. To increase subscribers. I know you’re doing that now but keep innovating.
Just on the basis of the pendulum swinging all the way to one extreme, then back to the other, I think that traditional slip joint knives as an entire category have become underrated these days. Whether it’s a traditional-traditional- such as what Case or Böker makes- or a modern-traditional like what MKM and LionSteel are doing, there are lots of options that would intrigue younger knife enthusiasts. And I would always recommend a slip joint first if someone wants a reliable EDC that won’t spook non-knife people. I carry three slip joints in my rotation right now- a Case, a Victorinox, and a vintage Imperial Boy Scout knife from the 50’s. All three function just fine for anything from box/package opening to whittling wood or pruning in the garden.
Guy's you should follow this video up with a Most Overrated Knives video.
Bugout...
It would be fun, but I doubt the knife brands would appreciate them dissing their products. lol
I would bet what the community thinks is overrated, DCA would not agree. The bugout is a good example of this.

I don't normally pay attention to customs. I'm afraid I might buy one, but Old Dominion Knife's custom cleaver is AAAMAAAZING
You've got me thinking about that mini Presidio.🤔
Those Brisa Enzos are super cool. There small neckers are very nice as well
Just on the basis of the pendulum swinging all the way to one extreme, then back to the other, I think that traditional slip joint knives as an entire category have become underrated these days.
Old Timer " Pioneer" Schrade has upgraded a few traditional folders with thumb studs a great hybrid instead of two handed opening.
I like the watu very much. Dont own one but is on my radar. I for one was excited at the tailstand.
I'd love an alox rambler or vagabond. SwissBianco used to sell one, but it's just not worth $250.
