- Jang Keun-suk used to be the biggest hallyu star and was called prince of Asia. However, with a new generation, he is not that well known. He recently held a fan signing event to celebrate reaching 100,000 RUclips subscribers, however, only 7 people showed up. He has been in the industry since he was five years old and, of course, he deserves more attention. Here is the story of Jang Keun-suk.

He stayed away from dramas too long, the younger generation isn't familiar with him, i guess. He's one of my favorite actors. I think he dove into his musical career more.

Beautiful Jang Keun Suk is still a star with a heart❤ that you can only love. His song alone sind...👌👌and he is and can do so much more. I love what he does. He has my respect and my heart ❤
I guess he just was unlucky for the past couple of years. He was quite successful until 2018 after he "recovered" from the tax evasion controversy and a little hiatus in 2015. But then he went to military, only to come back to covid in 2020. But instead of working in Korean industry again, he decided to release a couple of Japanese albums in 21 and 22. I guess that's understandable, since he's more popular overseas than back at home, thus earning more money there. Also, he should've gone back to acting instead of doing RUclips. It might be a good platform for different influencers and bloggers, but he's just not catering to younger people. And though he might have an impressive number of followers, those might be the older fans who either are not interested in events like this, or can't attend altogether.

People saying he stayed away from kdrama should know that he literally announced that he has PTSD...he wanted to take care of it so he stayed away from the media...I like that he's taking care of himself.

He was one of the actors who got me hooked on dramas years ago. I really enjoyed all his dramas and rewatch them many times. If I knew he was doing a signing and if I was in the country I would be first in line.❤

His "fan meeting" was an unannounced thing that no one knew about. Plus it was pouring down rain.THAT'S why so few people showed up! His drama Decoy parts 1 & 2 both have very high viewer ratings and comments on Viki, plus all of his older dramas are still very popular today. He performed before an ecstatic crowd and Water Bomb who loved him! He's only had his YT channel 4 months when he reached 100,000 subscribers! And he has an amazing new song and video called Shock. He's been doing music all along, which you failed to mention.
That's what I want to say too, he didn't even say about that fan meeting through his Instagram or even post about it officially, that's why there are only 7 people who came there. I hope he can comeback next year with another movie/drama project! I'll always be rooting for him, I've been a fan of him since 13 years ago.

Thanks for clearing it up about the fan meeting! I feel genuinely relievedi as I was very much surprised and worried when i heard it here about 7 people. I agree about Decoy - not only being an excellent drama but also receiving great viewer ratings - and about his recent music released, solo and with Chimiro... which is also great, especially some songs like Some or Shock..

I missed Jang Geun-Suk & often wondered why he quietly "disappeared" for a long period of time. I found him to be a good actor, has a knack for comedy & good-looking at that. I loved his old dramas, "DAEBAK" being the last good one that I remember. I started to watch his latest K-drama , "DECOY" but I felt it was not a good comeback drama for him. I'd love to see him in New ROM-COM. It was so hard to hear that only 7 Fans came to his recent Meet & Greet Event. I hope he does not give-up & pursue more good k-dramas soon.Hoping his Best years are still to come.
You are right! He tried to stay away from roles portraying his pretty boy image. But he really is still beautiful and romcom dramas will be good for him since he is also funny! His acting is still better than most young actors now.

Its not because his not well known in this generation, and new generation isn't familiar with him, Jks his already got a plaque from RUclips for having 100,000 plus subscribers, and for those who will not know, JKS donated millions thru UNICEF to help the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda or Haiyan when struck in the Philippines and devastated so many houses, his a brilliant actor, singer and performer, aside from that he has a unique and beautiful voice, a killer smile, most of all very kind-hearted person, beautiful inside-out, if 7 people showed up in his fan signing event because of bad weather it doesn't matter, co'z he has millions eels around the world to support him..♥♥♥

The weather was so bad then and I don’t think he announced the signing event in social media. I’m thousand miles away otherwise I would’ve been there regardless of the weather.
I have very high respect for JKS. He became so successful at a vey young age compare to other Kdrama actors his age. Extremely talented both as an actor and singer. Too underrated in his own country. South Koreans should be very proud of him instead. He brought so much pride to his country during his early 20s.
And he is still extremely popular in Japan.

Love and appreciate his humility and self-deprecating humor ...very rare all around but most especially in those in the entertainment industry. 99.9% of RUclipsrs with only seven fans showing up for an event would not be able to joke about it, much less soldiered on for the ones who showed up on such a rsiny day. In fact, 99.9% of people would just cancel the event.

I would have gone to his fan meeting if I had known about it and was in country then. Perhaps there was little to no notice given. No advertising.
Old fans, especially his Eels still hold him dear. New younger people don't have much of a chance to know about his work because he has not done much films, dramas, or variety shows recently. If it's not new, younger people don't care.
I like his new RUclips channel. He is funny, real, self-critical like normal people. He's also very cute. Actually very handsome with long hair IMO. He's always been a fantastic actor and singer IMO too. Just an all around solid entertainer.

He was all the rage, on the very top especially during 2009-2012 period. Then he kinda slowly went away. Had alot more unknown activity in Japan, mostly concerts, and then we stoped hearing from him all togheter..i always wondered what happened. As for the sign event that had only 7 people, i think is more a problem of managment, they didn't seem to advertise the event almost at all, so that's probably the main reason. People still love him even if the newer generation doesn't know him well, most of millenials know him too well to be forgotten that easly. He still had a consistent fan base

The Prince of Asia and his role in You Are Beautiful are the very reasons why I started learning Korean 3 years ago and haven't stopped a single day since. 200 dramas later, my goal is still to learn YAB by heart. JKS is a great actor and singer (his voice is the first thing I hear when I get in my car). He will always have a special place in my heart. I think a lot of fans like me just don't live in Korea...😢❤

I respect his hard work and determination to better himself. I recently watched Marry Me Mary and fell in love with the character he played. Honestly, I watched his acting and thought, whoa, he is so natual. He is that good. I paid attention to all the special things he brought to his character. His eyes are so expressive. I am his die-hard fan since 2011... He had so long and hard time, struggle a lot just because he has different personality and character than majority koreans; ppl linched him a lot... but he never be down and fall into depression. Always find new ways to motivate himself and go on. Now he find himself in japan showbiz as a singer and entertainer. He is marvellous actor! But whats a pity that koreans don't value him enough and not glad to see him on TV like other actors..😌 But he still has enough big fandom abroad! If he can have good kdrama, he can still shine and back into showbiz again! What abt 7 fans - I think it was unplanned and surprised event, that's why ppl came so less. Bcoz just in japan so many ppl every time visit his concerts! So don't need to show him miserable, he still has enough good fandom! We #eels love him so much! ❤

They put him down for years because they are afraid of his popularity. That is why they have so many suicides. Media/netizens are so toxic they csn killl you if you do not have a strong heart.
Arrogant is not the right word for JKS, it’s more like being very confident of himself. That’s why he survived that period. And thank God he did.

I don’t know him, perhaps because I’m not Korean. But reading what’s written in the thumbnail, I can’t help but feeling sad for him. Being forgotten is hurtful for anyone who was once famous. Arranging a fan-meeting indicated that he didn’t want to be forgotten & still wanted to connect with his fans. So this happening must have been heartbreaking for him.

Seems Jang Geun-suk isn't too interested in becoming a household name, since he's not putting himself out there or pushing to be in a Kdrama. As long as he's happy with what he's doing, even if that's staying behind the camera.
