I ordered one of these in January and it finally arrived at the end of May. Mine is a SWB Low Roof XLT, loaded in the front. The main difference in mine is that it is a turbo diesel. Fully loaded I get 25+ MPG, 20ish in the city. I have been through 9 cargo vans since I started my company, 5 Astros and 4 k1500/2500s, and I must say that THIS is the BEST one, so far. I will turn 7000 miles tomorrow and enjoying every mile. I also did something different with rear shelving/storage. I went with the brand new Sortimo by Knapheide. It is the MOST customizable and best fitting on the market. The ABSOLUTE best bulkhead available. I did buy larger than recommended shelving and cut them down with simple hand tools. I too have the same problems/complaints with the front storage, doors swinging, etc. But it being a Ford I enjoy a MUCH better ride with no aggravating rattles, SUPERIOR A/C, and outrageously better turning radius! Say what you want, Chevy is re-branding Nissans, of all things, and selling that trash! They have fallen WAY behind in this market and will never be a player again. They are falling behind Ram in truck sales and are soon to be #3.
I have 2 transit 350 eco boosts High top. Absolutely love them. We do 100% service and they are amazing for that. We get a lot of snow usually and that’s about the only down fall so far. Don’t have the 4x4.
ok i would like to point out 2 things , as i never seen barn doors on a van on the side. I think the problems you pointed out come from the fact that they dont exactly engineer the can to have these barn doors normally. And then filling the fuel tank. Did you say the problem is when you top it off?. The thing is you should not do this. There is a airgap in the fueltank that you will fill up by triggering toping it off when the tank is full, by topping it more up you can cause evap-system engine mangament problems on some make and model vehicles , So it is a bad habbit that should be Abandoned. You know, like stuck in there ways ... i think you mentioned that in one of your videos.
Haven't had any mechanical issues besides normal wear and tear. Replaced brakes twice and tires once. Had a ball joint go but they did it under warranty because it failed in an unusual way and was deemed defective. Dealer mechanic said it's only been the second one he's replaced. One slight annoying issue is that sometimes I get water on the passenger side floorboard from the AC on really humid days. It's a known flaw with this.particular year and there is a fix. Also there is an open recall for drive shaft couplings. No permanent fix as far as I know just a standing get it replaced every 30k. I've had it done twice.
@@Halligan142 ok. My boss is having me choose between a 65k chevy 2500 and a transit 250 with 70k miles. Rhode island tech here, I like your vids thanks.
@@mikerefrigeration5736 If you're doing a lot of city driving I'd choose the Ford. Super easy to parallel park compared to the E series and I'm assuming the Chevys are on par with that.
I have the 350 148” extended high room 3.2 diesel 2017 here in us. Have been driving it since September 2017. No complains on the transit. The only thing is the bottle jack. I took it out once and I never put it back in the same place. It’s a stupid design. Also to lift up the rear of the van is insanely hard and takes u half a day. But other than that no complains. Had to use the jack one time in 3 years.
The Hvacr contractor I work for is slowly transitioning to Ford transit vans. 2 in so far. My service manager got the first one. He couldn't get the extension ladder back on his van. He had to get a special ladder rack installed. He is about 5 feet 7, but could whip my 6 feet 2 260 pound butt with no problem. The guys were also complaining about the small gas tank. Only holds 20 gallons. They are always having to refill. I like my 2010 Chevy express van for now. Maybe I will get into a Transit someday. Nice video Halligan142. You tell things as they are. No pc bs on your videos.
Yeah gas tank is getting to be annoying sometimes. We're mostly in-state so I average maybe 100-150 miles on a normal day. Usually have to fill up twice a week. The other van I could easily get by with a week or more depending
I am surprised I got one on 5-1-17. Had 5000 miles on it. No storage space between the seats now. I got a 6 inch by 2 feet metal bin installed between the seats, not enough, keep my biller and a vendor list in there. It rides nice and accelerates great. I got after market cruise control and security system, Python. Electronic dead bolts on back and side doors. More refrigerant racks and there is more bin and floor storage. My service manager got the deluxe model. Vey nice. Right, on the gas tank. I never drive less than 100 miles per day. 3 times a week you have to fill up.
Just subscribed; I appreciate your honesty about your opinion on this van; that been said, I just got fired and will start my own small business as a home security camera home systems, I need to buy a used “working van”, it would be my “office and Warehose 😅” for all intended porpoises; would you advise me on which cargo van model and year should I be looking for that would meet requirements for ladders on top, shelves & storage spaces? My sincere apologies, I know I’m asking a lot from you, the thing is that I’m putting life savings into this small business and need all the advice and help I can get... those red plastic shelves would also be of great use to me if you would advise where to buy them. You'll have to look at vans yourself and see what size fits your needs and budget. I can 100% say stay away from the Ram Promasters. We had nothing but trouble with ours and I know 2 other people that have them and they're in the shop more than they're on the road. Ford E series has been around forever and they've made a million of them. You can probably get.one that already has the shelving in it. If not look at Adrian steel shelving. There's all kinda of configurations you can get. The basic package is a contractor package. You can get these at tons of outfitters and installed or you can order online and install yourself. If you're needing ladder racks I'd go more towards aluminum than steel. Steel ones will rust and you'll get streaks on the truck. If you buy a new van the dealership will have an outfitting program and interior shelving allowance usually.
For the barn doors on the van, get a set of straps and hooks from a jeep door...Screw the hooks in to the door and pillar, then you`ll have positive stops for the doors !
I see you have Adrian Steel shelving in your van, could you share your opinion on it? I've been looking at the offerings from them, Ranger, American Van, and Kargo Master for the Transit. Just not sure about the cutouts at the bottom, I get that it allows you to put a piece of plywood wood in there but my concern is the stuff that would live under there rolling out. However, with that said I keep going back to look at Adrian, looks like quality stuff, adjustable shelving, and the ability to shift the whole shelf unit forward or aft has value. Thanks for posting this video and have a good one.
I keep mostly bulky items on the floor and strapped in. Adrian has by far been the best to hold up. We had them in all of our Astros. I had one e-150 with Leggit and Platt (black color) shelving that sucked. My only problem with adrian is that the small parts drawer units are all plastic now. They used to be all metal. If we'd known we'd have stripped them out of our old vans and kept them.
They're looped through and tied off. Either the cord has to break or the cord needs to pull out of the ball. I've gotten into a head on crash in an Astro van with them tied like that and they stayed. Some racks have chains, but they make a racket and the clasp always turns the wrong way.
Realizing there's no 100% safe way to stow and transport these in a vehicle I was just curios as I can imagine that if one got pierced you would probably have issues breathing.
You skipped over the awesome v-belt selection you have on your van! What else are you hiding from us? :-) Over-all it's looks like a decent van, comparing the old that you're used to against the new isn't always a fair comparison but I do get where you're coming from. Our old trucks were Chevy's (which I'm a fan of) but the new ones are Ford. Hate to say I like the new Fords better but I haven't compared against a new Chevy. Either way, I've adapted myself to it so I'm sure you will too.
15 vs 22 combined MPG gas vs diesel according to sticker so not too different. Diesel is also more expensive than gas, and is generally more expensive to repair at least here in the States. Also as far as I know they dropped the diesel engine as an option in 2020. Usually unless the van is going to be idling for hours on end or you use it in hauling something and really need the torque, most people choose gas.
