Nice test! Thank you for the hard work and upload.
Great testing. I have some of those analog meters too. I’m setting up my off grid bank ~ 132 kWh. 10 16s batteries and 5 different brands of BMS’s. Redundancy and just for the experience.
wow, that's a huge battery bank! do you want to share your setup on this channel?
I’d like to thank you for sharing this video which helped me decide to buy heltec 4a samrt active balancer. God bless you.
Great to hear!
Great review, very well documented and explained !
thanks
Thanks sir for your effort . It worths !
It's my pleasure
This is a fantastic demonstration of active balancers. Thank you!
All active balancers measure cell voltages on board so any voltage drop over those light gauge wires with, I imagine several hundred millivolt voltage drop under peak currents will decrease the current (i.e see a higher cell voltage than it really is ) it can push into the cells. With some suitable cables, maybe it can pull the rated current from a cell that is fully charged? Might be worthwhile checking the voltages at the cells. Ofcourse, all this is academic...we don't expect active balancers to balance in a short time.
thanks for the feedback, didn't measure the voltage drop.
@@SolarEngineering It occurred to me that they probably alternately measure the voltage of the cell then feed current to the cell at some slow frquency so they can avoid the voltage drop due to current?
@@BenMitro I don't know, 1st and 2nd look like just opening bridge between cells allowing current to flow and it appears to be highly ineffective (at least for batteries 25Ah+). The last balancer has a transformer that allows pushing into cell 4A independent of cells voltage diff (pulsing to measure voltage).
@@SolarEngineering Yes, I noticed that about the last balancer. Looks like the way to go if that balancing is on the cards. Still in two minds about the efficacy of doing this after the batteries are initially balanced...but I don't know.
Sehr gutes Video 😊😊
Thanks for sharing 🙏
great test
thanks!
Great review. I ordered 10a Heltec balancer. Ñ
wow! curious to hear how it works.
Good video 👍
Thanks
Thanks helped allot
Glad to hear it
Hello. First, I have to thank you for your advice concerning the JK BMS/active balancer. I have installed some pcs of this BMS and the work fine.
I have another question. I am wondering if this JK BMS/active balancer could connect in parallel (2 or 3 DIY 48V and 280Ah battery banks), connect, and communicate with DEYE 3--phase, 12kw inverter?
Thank you for your help.
Merci
Can you recommend a good bms for a 24 volt battery made with 24 Nissan leaf modules. It's a different chemistry than the lifepo4 and I've never had a bms before. I'm not sure what to buy but I need a bms to keep from having a fire from what I've been told. They battery has a top voltage of 25 volts and I only take it down to 20 volts. Any help with recommendations for the leaf bms would be appreciated
If I buy 10-14s, can under 10S also use this battery balancer?
Hello sir : does 17s 5A balancer work on 13s battery or I should buy 13s balancer for it ? Thanks
How many ampere balancers should be installed for how many ampere batteries?
How many ampere balancers do I need for my battery pack? my battery bank 24v 160Ah(lifepo4 8s).
I don’t think you can calculate the required time based on voltage difference; you need to know the Ah difference, which is not linear with voltage for LiFePO4
Hi mate just wondering thay say you can cascading the smart active balancer for more than 24s so if you hook up 2 balancer together say 36s I wonder if the unit's can balance between them. Like from cell 1 to cell 36. My battery is 14s and I have another battery 14s in parallel
Thanks
Hi, if you have 2 batteries with 14s in parallel, then your pack is 14s2p and you need to use just 1 active balancer since cells in the pack paralleled as well.
Hello, if i have 35 kwh electric car with unbalanced cells, wich balancer should i buy? Its brand jac sei 1, thank for you for your time.
Sir if i have 16s3p 280ah prismatic what compatible active balancer for my setup? Is there higher amperage active balancer?
version with Bluetooth (last one in video) works great
Can I hock up to my 15S DAILY 120A BMS an Active Balancer for 31 wires which are not connected to the 15S BMS only the Active Balancer is connected to all 31 batteries and out of the 31 Batteries 15 are in series for 48v can this be done ?
need more info. What is the battery config? 31 cells total and 15 are in series?
Так какой балансёр из этих тебе больше нравится, или всё-таки тот что у тебя раньше был? Я никак не могу решить какой себе брать, у меня 16s
поставил последний (4A) к себе в систему, он единственный отбалансировал ячейки.
Do these active balancers work with 18650 nmc cells?
yes
Hello. Interesting video. Do you think if I use my JKBMS with 2 amp active balance with another active balancer you suggest same time connected to the battery to improve. Will it works?
I'm using 2 balancers with my 23kWh bank (1 built-in into BMS and 2nd balancer from this video). Make sure to run 2 sets of wires for each balancer.
@@SolarEngineering thanks for the return. You mean each balancer have is own cable for exemple connected close the cells?
yes correct.
@@SolarEngineering you mean connected directly to the batteries (to every single cell) and not to a connection hub?
@@rOSScOGITANS correct. Connecting to hub (or splitter) can cause false voltage readings and balancers will start balancing each other.
What about the bms
Would be nice to see without the help of the power supply. The end result would give efficiency.
it's not going to balance pack, v diff going to be 100mv+. Only last balancer is doing what it's suppose to do.
camera is moving all over ...its gives us old people d izzy...i prefer static camera...nice video thank you.
got it, thanks for feedback
What happens when you try to balance for example 5s battery with 7s~24s balancer and additionnal power supply ? Will it work ? Thanks
I know that last one I tested will work with external power supply. Not sure about others.
@@SolarEngineering I have just see new balancers 2s~24s it should work. Thanks for reply
Hello, up to your experience till today in BMS and active balancers , is there a reliable BMS and active balancer that you recommend?
I'm using JKBMS with builtin 2A active balancer in 23kwh battery bank. It's rated for 200A, but I'm limiting it to 100A.
So far works well.
@@SolarEngineering
thank you for your prompt response.
Do you use it 24/24 and 7/7, all time connected to the battery bank?
yes, working 24/7 since feb 2022
Hello, I think that in video is big mistake... 16S 120A price 37 USD ???!!! I didnt find it in this price on Ali in Heltec BMS Official Store... It must be mistake !
here you go my friend:

i have 32 cell 200Ah each please how hrs do i need to top balance them

If all the batteries are connected together in series and parallel to act as a single battery how is it possible that individual packs can be balanced?
balancers designed to balance individual cells in packs.
@@SolarEngineering thanks for the reply but what I don't understand is how it would isolate an individual cell when they're all connected together as one thank you
@@dust6242 The active balancer has wires going to each group. So the 4s balancer has 5 wires. 3 wires go the the middle connections and 2 wires go on each end. Now the balancer can see the individual voltages of all 4 cells. Any two wire connections side by side can see and control the battery in between the two wires. I hope that makes sense.
So if you had 4 separate batteries the balancer would need 8 wires to see the positive and negative of each battery. When you connect these 4 batteries together in series, 3 of the 8 wires are doubled up so the extra wires can be removed. You end up needing only 5 wires.
@@dust6242 Also keep in mind that the balancer can only work between batteries in series.
If you have a group of batteries in parallel, they balance themselves because all of their positives are connected together and all of their negatives are connected together.
Is there any recommendation to start the balance after 3.45V?
I personally prefer to set a low start voltage, it could be too late to balance when the lowest cell reaches 3.45V (at least on my bigger pack).
My settings: start voltage 2.5V (basically balance all the time) and cell diff voltage 0.02V
and to your previous question: it's not to make Heltec happy, it's to show that in real life balancer will not reach specified amperage.
@@SolarEngineering I'm Sorry for that wrong question. English isn't my native language and understud what you said about the real life at the second time i whatched which seems to me very clear. That's why I deleted It! Thank you!
@@jefersono1971 I see, English is not my native language as well.
what was the password to pair bluetooth ??
try 000000 or 123456
Nobody don't make us video 3p8s connection with 1 bms
Your setup is wrong in many ways. First the cheaper balancers they don't have the pulsating option, so the wire length has a big impact. Use as short as possible wire for those balancers.
I don't think so, all of these passive balancers are too far from specs. For example one of them is rated for 5A (so wires must be rated for 5A as well), but it's balancing with only 20% of the rated current.
any other wrong ways?
I'm giving balancers for free:
3-4S 5.5A - have 2 of them
4s 10A - 2 pcs
12-16S 5.5A - 1 pcs
If you want to get them, leave me a note (you'll need to pay shipping from North California)
update: all gone
Is 12-16s still available? Thank You
@@electronpower2758 I am interested in 4s 10A. THank you.
Hi...Thanks for your explanation and instructive video. Interested on the 3-4S 5.5A balancers. Please let me know. Thanks!!!😀
have them,
i can't find a good active balancer for my 5S 12v 20ah lead acid pack (electric vehicle)
do lithium battery balancers works on lead acid batteries? i thought you might help me
