PS Fan magazine literally said " Quite possibly the greatest game ever made. " - back in 1997 So there was a lot of people that made bold claims like that.
Over 30 mins of cgi video And over 1800 megs of entertainment Crazy how this was considered a huge game back them I never knew Toonami showed this This is legendary material
Yeah, measurements in GB among the general public was certainly NOT common back then. As each disc held 700 MB and the game had to be spread across three discs, that's likely a very accurate number as those CGI video files ate a ton of space. Of course, some of that data is a bit redundant as some of it had to be shared across all three discs for the game to function properly. Realistically, FF7 is about 1.4 GB on the PC (although some modern console releases eat up far more than that for some reason) Might seem very small by today's standards, but I honestly don't think folks realize just how massive a 1.4 GB game was back in 1997. And it wasn't just FF7 either. Nintendo sticking with cartridges in that generation is really what hurt them more than anything else. That's not to say that Nintendo's games weren't fun or that graphics were everything (they clearly aren't), but the lack of storage space on the N64 likely would have kept some companies from getting far more creative had they stuck with Nintendo rather than jump over to Sony.
And now they've become ridiculous, cursing people out over "spoiling" decades-old media. There has to be a certain point where the events of a story aren't spoilers any more. Two years seems a reasonable amount of time, not forever. If you were too young or didn't play/watch/read something that's 20+ years old, it's not everyone else's job to mind themselves just because you haven't experienced it yet.
I've seen the end of a movie in trailers before, but I didn't know it at the time. It didn't ruin my enjoyment of it. Even a Spider-Man No Way Home trailer showed a moment near the very end, but ignorance was bliss.
I think it’s because people would rewatch things more than now. Something had to be endlessly rewatchable in order to be considered great. Not just rely on surprise.
I didn't have cable for a long time but my friend did, and I remember seeing this at his place. FF7 became an obsession for him, and I wish our friendship could've endured the time and distance we've put between us since then. This upload took me way back. Good times. Thanks for sharing.
Some kingly, sacred stuff I thought I'd never see. Just like searching for a beyond great HD recording of Toonami's 2012 April Fools "fade from The Room to TOM" footage on here, which I finally found months ago. Nice find!
I didn't know that Toonami covered Final Fantasy VII. I thought the only Final Fantasy that was on Toonami was FFX. I must've missed it back in the days.
Now my friends are gonna believe me that Toonami reviews FF7. They think they only review X but I remember clearly they review part 7 EDIT: also did Moltar named Red XIII “Red DOGGY” ? 😂😂😂
damn i vaguely remember seeing this, It brought back some memories. They damn near spoiled the whole game though and it's funny they renamed Red 13 to Red DOGGY 1:01
We still need to find the full version of the Trapped in Hyperspace game. I feel like an idiot for spamming the devs' inboxes with e-mails, and I doubt they'll listen to anyone else. Browser cache won't work, as it was a complicated game. (Like Birdman) I just don't know what to do. I'm at the end of my rope.
"This is the game from which all RPGs will be judged" Damn that was historically accurate.
I mean it's been a quarter of a century and FF7 is STILL the gold standard.
@@BerryTheBnnuyYou aren't kidding! It's even on the Nintendo Switch via the E-Shop @ $15.99... no foolin'!

The holy grail of lost Toonami media has surfaced. 2022 is already great.

Hey man nice pfp
Man I had totally forgotten that toonami was even around in 97. For some reason I always felt it came out like in 2000
Over 30 mins of cgi video

Now Rebirth for a third of the Final Fantasy 7 is 1000 times bigger
So much nostalgia condensed into one clip. My brain and heart can barely handle it.
"THIS is the one by which ALL other RPGs will be judged."
Man, marketing for Final Fantasy 7 back in the day was HUGE huh
They just so nonchalantly showed the end of the game and more in the ad. It's crazy how much people didn't care about spoilers back then
If we're being fair, most people haven't played the game by that point so they wouldn't even realize what they were seeing.

Trapped in Hyperspace game, anyone? I wanna hear Swayzak's Jango Fett type accent for the first time since 2004...
I was 4 when this aired...i definitely missed it. Thank you! This was awesome
Toonami can literally sell me anything with the deep voice narrator and lofi beats playing in the background.
Good times of Toonami from the 90s 💯👍🏾
Who is here after ff7 rebirth?
Me too

For a couple of minutes I was transported back in time
Moltar knew what was up even way back then. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this! An important contribution in saving lost media

Absolutely loved playing final fantasy VII such a great game
This video is a time capsule 💎
Are we just gonna ignore the fact that they named Nanaki "RED DOGGY"?
Holy crap! Nice find!
Good shit man. Good shit. I hope this blows up as it should.

Well at the beginning of the X review, Tom said “Been a while since we reviewed a Final Fantasy game”.
Toonami first aired in 1997. this was their first ever review.
@@ptrcrispythis only aired twice. I barely managed to catch it and record the second time.
I hope Toonami does a review on Rebirth, since that game has been out for almost two months.
"These graphics are so real" lol no but seriously I remember how big a deal this game was when it came out.
happy 25th anniversary toonami/final fantasy 7!!! :3
Huh. So I guess Toonami really did review a Final Fantasy game before FFX. Never knew.
So good
Great find
Man really named Red XIII "Red DOGG" LOL

Awesome
that game is fun
I wonder if Jason is aware this was found I remember him saying he had wish they had this one saved.

So this is what Moltar does in his downtime from trying to destroy Space Ghost.
