First the Stand! (?) Can't seem to find a stand for stand up drumming. Plus I'm 6'4. Is there a practice pad set up with a harness or sling? That would be ideal. I'd actually like to practice marching the while. (Plus I could use the exercise now winters approaching). I've found the sticks and pad online, very happy about that. I've asked so many drum channels about sticks and pads and never get a response. I'm working with Vic Firth 3A sticks but I can't get much of a rebound from either of my pads, one of which is a Remo knock off with a real drum head, even using my other hand. Tried to go cheap and now I'm paying the price. I wish you would supply some links that are Yank friendly. I live in Glasgow, KY where there is no music store or music scene!?! And finding a good IPA? Yikes! Thanks for your help! Jack
Couldn't agree more on the Jim Kilpatrick KP2 sticks..wonderful balance and feel. We've standardized on them in the two pipe bands I'm in..and the overwhelming majority of pipe band snare drummers in my area use them. As for practice pad for pipe band snare drumming practice: I've found the Hugh Cameron 'medium' pad to be the best for pipe band snare drumming practice most drummers in my area use them they come very close to the feel and articulation of a pipe band snare drum head. They don't have provision for screwing onto a stand, however. If I want to practice standing I either place it on top of a drum or onto the basket of a concert height snare drum stand.
Thanks for your video. I just bought the same pad close to my vendor here in france. I'm using Vic Corp Master indoor because I love those sticks. I more than happy having switch to pipe snare last year, at 53... Never too late ! I would have one question about the model of stand you use ? Thanks keep safe and drumming.
Welcome to pipe band drumming! I use the Remo Pro stand - it’s outstanding. Have you done my free drumming course? tinyurl.com/DrummingTransformationWeek
Forgive my ignorance, but I already have a couple of practice pads from learning drum kit (e.g. Evans Realfeel). Are the pads marketed to pipe bands completely different, such that I should really buy one?

What pad do you use?
@@PipeBandDrumming Evans Realfeel.
Where do you get the KP2’s at? I can’t find them on the VF website.
You can get them from Jim Kilpatrick Website or Scott Currie
