I just got a 2009 Ruckus for free and got it running after 10 years of sitting! Only 660 miles but needed some work! Thankfully Honda makes some long lasting rides! Put in a new battery, new carburetor bc the jet was stuck and stripped, and a new fuel pump. Took out old gas and rust out the tank, oil change and it fired right up and runs great!
@@Winterstick549 I haven't had any issues with ethanol fuel when using Stabil fuel treatment. I use it on all my engines that are carbureted and/or sit for extended periods of time. It keeps em running tip top for up to 2 years.
The Ruck Shop recommends that you only put 2 1/2 cups (20 oz) of oil when filling it. I did this with mine and it put my dip stick level right at the half mark.
I just got my ruckus a few weeks ago, it had 169 miles now it has 296. 2 days ago I’ve noticed some rich gas smells coming from the exhaust. Then I checked the oil level and it’s way over the limit. About a quarter inch over the honey comb on the stick. It’s under warranty. I have to ride it to the shop to leave it there. Should I drain the oil and fill new oil to the right amount, or should I take it to the shop first?
@@DIYJIM the ruckus runs fine, I’m bringing it in to the shop tomorrow. I may just have a gas leak somewhere. I had gotten gas in it last night, but I realized it shouldn’t have been time to fill up. I topped the gas when it had 222 miles on it, and that was just half full, but the gas light came on at 288 so I filled it up. So it’s definitely got to be a leak somewhere.
Apparently the dealership frequently over fills these bikes with oil…at least that’s what they said in a ruck shop video. Makes the bike work much harder if it’s too full. Good thing to check if you buy a new bike.
@@gregorypalmer5432 hey thanks for the reply, happy new year. Yeah I’ve got videos I’ve made that I’m working to get uploaded on my channel. I may have to take the bike to the dealer where it came from. There’s gas in the air box and on the air filter. I’m assuming it’s the carburetor or some along the fuel line, not sure what it is. I took it too a shop to have it looked at for warranty purposes, and, in pg means, they made me pay for the work they were not sake or do. All they did was adjust the throttle and air the tires. They claim they didn’t see anything, but I think they made a bogus claim. And I even told them about the oil. It is what it is I guess
@@Slo49cc stories like this are why I only ever work on my own stuff. Over filling oil basically drowns the engine and forces oil into places it's not suppose to be. It fouls the spark plug and stresses components. Short term it won't kill anything but long term it can do damage by causing premature stress failures at worst. It also as everyone knows makes the bike run like crap. Anytime there's too much oil all you have to do is drain the correct amount out. With as little oil as this bike holds you could easily just drain it all out and refill slowly. I think a lot of people are overly cautious because they're unsure about what they don't know. Thankfully changing oil is the easiest thing you can do and one of the hardest things to royally screw up. So long as you don't leave the filter or plug loose (or not even on) and actually put oil back in it there should be little to no worries.
Thank you for the video! Can you please tell me if there's a gasoline smell from this scooter? I really want to buy a Honda Ruckus, but I live in a third-floor apartment with an elevator. However, I'm concerned about whether there will be a gasoline smell from it 🤷🏻♂️

Can you find ethanol free fuel in your area?
The Ruckus uses a carb, so ,,,
it's a honda .. it probably could have set for 50 years and you wouldn't gotten a similar result.
