    Love the Hank Hill shout out! First thing I thought when I saw the title of this vid was "Hank Hill approved!" I know propane burns cleaner (My job has a propane powered forklift for inside our warehouse) but it has less energy density than gasoline. I used to work for Honda, and they had Civics that ran on CNG (compressed natural gas) but they were slower than even the base model gasoline Civic. Luckily, NOBODY in my area had these, as they were mostly for fleet use in California. It's an interesting concept, and the higher octane of propane COULD lead to a wild race motor (high compression, big cam, big valves, turbo, etc)...perhaps for the Cars and Cameras Backyard or Dust Bowl races...

    Based upon a lot of experience with propane generators I think you're going to have trouble with the little bottles icing up if you ride for more than a few minutes at a time, I know it sounds crazy but I would aim the exhaust right at the tank to keep it from icing up. Even running a generator on a 20 pounds bottle it will ice up to the point where it'll shut off so we will frequently set the 20 pound bottle in front of the exhaust on the generator

    I'm glad to see the propane option come to be with small engines. How clean is propane as motor fuel. Well one company I worked at ran forklifts to transport heavy stuff and goods they produced. The average fork truck served 3 right hour shifts 6 days a week. These forklifts we're shown no mercy, they ran the living dog 🐕 out of them, wide open constantly. They changed oil about every 5 years and the old oil was still pretty clean looking, but it still had 5 years of absolute abuse of equipment, so it was time to change it. Some of the lifts were 35 years old and still ran great. In a nutshell, if you want a engine to last, use propane as it's fuel. Thanks for the video and 73 GOD Bless,, Earnest K5EWM.

    Welcome to the world of LP-Gas, Red Beard. Another point in favor of LP is this. While the price of gasoline and diesel is on a roller coaster ride, LP stays pretty constant. We have a few LP tractors on our farm, and as luck would have it, we have 3 of the same model in 3 different fuel types. One is diesel, one is gasoline, one is LP. With the price of diesel being what it is, vs how much thirstier the gasoline counterpart is, it's just about equal. But in our area, LP has been 60 cents to a dollar a gallon cheaper than gasoline since the spring. So because of that, the tractor we call Hank, a 1969 John Deere 4020 LP, has been the most economical tractor for its size in our fleet this year. I've got a video on that machine titled "How to run an LP Tractor" if that's something that interests you.

    BTW: Many people don't know to put the small tanks in the freezer for an hour or so,before refilling from a larger tank.This lowers the pressure inside the tank and it allows more fuel in as it refills.Those little tanks for camp stoves,torches, etc add up,so refilling is much cheaper.

    The surging may be coming from the bottle being layed on its side. those type of regulators do not like Liquid Unless they specifically say for LIQUID PROPANE. The bottle needs to be run upright and secured from falling. Same thing happens with the cheap propane torches if you hold them upside down. They flare up more than they should and waste alot of fuel.

      @nicolec7290 2 года назад +1

      It’s the best way to go. Cleaner burn & you will not have to change oil but every couple years. No kidding. It will not mud up your oil like gas does. I ran my truck on propane for years ( I worked at Hoosier propane ) got it at employee price 89 cents per gallon. Not that cheap now. But still only 1.89 a gallon. Cheap & clean

    2 other downsides are, you get a little less power on propane, and if you use the engine in cold climate, they get pretty hard to start, better start on gas then switch to propane.

    • @henkoosterhof5947
      @henkoosterhof5947 2 года назад +1

      ProbeGT2 yes. In europe manufacturers sell cars of new with dual fuel. Gasoline and lpg(propane). These cars have an automatic start up. Start and heat up for a few miles on gasoline, then a temperature sensor kicks in and automatic change to lpg. Its also possible to change over by hand but the temp sensor will block changing to lpg unless when on temperature. We have an inbuilt tank over here normally placed in the sparewheel well. Lots of gasstations here have a pump so i drive up, open the fillercap of my gasfill, put an adapter in the connecter and fill up. Then say hello to the nice blond cashier lady while paying 0.80 cents/liter (1gallon=3,78 liter) (1 euro=0,96 cents usd). I pay 1/2 the mpg in comparision of gas cars.
      Not mentioned because you dont know it over there: i lose my spare wheel but the last 10 years new cars dont get them any more. You get a foam and small compressor unit instead.
      I have a 26 liter tank so a range of 250 miles. If a want a bigger tank that would take up space in the booth. For me there are much more +++++ than --.

    I'm curious if some of the performance petrol parts will work in it long term. I understood engines that run propane or natural gas need a significantly harder valvetrain to cope with the higher temps. Gasoline is not only a fuel but a combustion chamber coolant whereas natural gas does not do so. When you take it apart, see if you can inspect the valvetrain to see if there is anything special about it. It may just be an issue for larger engines and not factored into smaller ones.

    the best way to purify gasoline fuel is by mixing it with water and letting it settle, basically all the ethenol and other additives since it binds with the water much more than it does with the gasoline since all the additives are water soluble and since water is heavier than gasoline you just take off the fuel off the top once it settles. which if you measure by volume of the water you can tell how pure the fuel is since its volume will increase. to work out the water amount to add it should be double what the percentage is in the fuel so if its E15 then it should be 30% of the total amount of fuel which if you have a liter of fuel that would be 300mls of water. hope this helps

    Once you run ethanol gas in a engine all the plastic and rubber fuel system parts are contaminated by the ethanol . Then the fun begins cleaning the carb and replacing fuel system parts. Ethanol creates white rust which clogs up the jets and small passageways. You can clean it over and over but it never ends. Propane will eliminate this problem. Oil will l stay cleaner . Spark plug will last longer .

  • @tomtee4442

    If you want more power and fuel efficiency out of a propane engine lean it out with a load block it's easier than any other engine to tune even fuel injection. Need help leave me a message. You can't go to lean on propane. You don't want to be to rich at all on propane can get to hot and burn the engine up. I've converted engines to dual fuel, tri fuel and been in propane and into street strip racing for over 30 years. Propane is the lazy man's fuel because I never have to work on it!!! A propane engine way less maintenance, way longer lasting, no carb or fuel treatment problems ever.
    Tech Tip: If I was running a mini bike or ATV. I would paint the bottle white or put a white cloth over it if it is in the sun. I wanted to run a (black painted) propane tank on a bike to match the color of bike. Propane tank full of propane shaking up from bouncing definitely paint white. More bottle pressure hotter, more filled and shaken up. But I knew I couldn't paint tank black for saftey it would have to be white it's the coolest color. Definitely DEFINITELY DON'T DO THIS!!! DARK COLORS ON PROPANE TANKS IN SUN GET EXTREMELY HOT IN THE SUN AND ON A FULL TANK, SHAKEN AND HOT TEMPS CAUSE PRESSURES TO RISE FAST COULD CAUSE PROPANE TANK TO LEAK OR EXPLODE!!! Once years ago had a full propane tank leaking slowly in a enclosed building in the middle of summer about 108 degrees inside hottest days of the year. Simple quick fix drain some propane to reduce bottle pressure it works. And I would run a larger propane cylinder than the 1 pound it ices up and not enough flow for that 200+ cc engine. I had icing up and flow problems on a new small 40 CC propane inverter generator using 1 pound new propane bottle. Went to larger propane cylinder No Problems No More! I still use 1 pound bottles for my portable heaters until I plumb them in. Propane is a prepper fuel It Never goes bad. I also have a 240,000 btu propane heater it runs fine on 20 pound BBQ tanks. It sounds like a jet wide open running.

    A partially full gasoline tank is more dangerous than a full one. You could extinguish a cigarette in a full tank, but I wouldn't try doing that in a tank that has any air in it lol

    The worst thing about propane is it has no lubrication quality hard on valves and it can be hard to start in cold weather.

      Perhaps AMSOIL upper cylinder lube might help. I use it in my vehicles- never tried it in a small engine. What do you think?

    Oh! One more thing! The fumes from an LP engine,when tuned correctly, are a lot more tolerable than gasoline. Not safer, but not as bothersome to the eyes, nose, and throat.
