Thank you so much Evangelina ❤️ It’s about time we become comfortable with our real flawsome selves! Our derma journey doesn’t have to be something we’re ashamed of ☺️ Stronger together xxx
I cry everytime I look in the mirror I feel so ugly from picking but it’s hard to stop when I obsess on being perfect and obsess on all my flaws, thank you for this video. Very helpful
girl, i just want to thank you SO MUCH, every time i read or listen to something abt skin picking, they give it such a negative connotation to the point where i just end up being even more ashamed of myself. even when someone asks me why my skin has become like that and when my sister and mother point out that my skin has gotten worse, there is nothing more humiliating. seeing you talk abt this in a positive light, with humour and givign tips that help instead of just plainly emphasising how bad it is, helps so much, i feel like i have finally found my community and the people that understand me. SO THANK YOU
I deal with it and my boyfriend does too! His body is covered for the most part with pick marks I have . I wish I could make him stop but he’s so addicted. We started picking heavily after we got hooked on meth.
Add me to the list. I was a very anxious teenager and would pick and pull at my face and make swollen and or dark marks thay would last a while. Acne didn't help and it became a vicious cycle, where if I felt something on my face it would be my focus for hours sometimes. I'm much older now and noticed I will do it when I'm not moving around enough. Also when I have too much idle time to ruminate about things. I usually don't really notice until I look in the mirror and notice dark marks rub marks where I've obsessively picked over and over. I thought I was done with this and now I've discovered it is a disorder. Hopefully knowing this I can find effective ways to cope differently.
Im going to finally heal this, i ve been struggling only for 4 years, but it affects my life so much that i make everything around me miserable and depressing. But i'm once again going to try, thank you for this content, You are such a Amazing woman💜
Agata Płuza thank you so much Agata 💕 I hope you’re staying safe and well and don’t be too hard on yourself during this journey. It’s a process and you’re learning more about yourself throughout it ☺️
I have been suffering from this disorder for more than 10 years i am 25 , i really want to heal myself , i am fed up my face always looks like i sleep with kittens around me ..
leaving a comment here to update my progress a while away from now... it’s 1am but i’ll be trying meditation whenever i feel the urge to pick starting tomorrow❤️ so excited, this skin picking have gone on for way too long and i’m so ready to have glowing healthy skin that i feel comfortable in!
I accidently discovered a video mentioning skin picking disorder and i was like "WHAT!! so I'm not the only one that does this AND feels shitty about it" and then today I stumbled across this video and i want to say THANK YOU, i've been doing this for at least 7 years and i'm only 16, and as if i don't feel shitty enough everyone is pissed that i did what i did and telling me that i need to stop and i always say that i want to stop but i always come back to it.. so hopefully someday i will.
I really needed to hear this, I didn't know this is the advice I needed to get and I'm so glad I found you! I've struggled with dermatillomania since I was 3 years old (I'm 18 going on 19 now) and it has really hurt me deeply in so many ways. I feel like I have permission to be free now if that makes sense. what's helping me the most now is writing everything out, like absolutely everything that comes into my mind and seeing how it relates back to my picking so I can recognize the patterns of the cycle. it's my safe space where I can be seen and grow, whereas my picking was my safe space where I can hide and shrink. thank you so much!
Sabina Kunze Hi Sabina! This is so wonderful and I’m so happy to hear it ☺️ Dermatillomania can feel very soul-destroying, especially when we don’t know how to live without it. If we aim to live with it, not fighting it or avoiding it, we can start with work with it I.e. work with our inner selves 💗 I’m excited to be doing more videos very soon as I’m currently moving places! Thank you for watching and for commenting 🥰
I really appreciate you and your page. I’ve struggled with derma for years and hearing your journey is so helpful and gives me hope. I’m also an alcoholic in recovery and I see so many similarities between how I have stayed sober (by relating to and finding strength within other alcoholics) and how I am finding a way through derma. Listening to you has been the most helpful thing over everything (therapy, cbt, covering mirrors, etc). I love to hear that the derma community is growing and I feel grateful to be a part of it. Thank you. ♥️
Thank you so much Kya, your support means a lot to me 💕 I’m actually 11 weeks sober myself, so I can fully understand the similarities too! May I say, sober life is so much better. Congrats to you and big hug from 🇬🇧
Hey! I have been trying to really kick my skin picking habit all 2020, and it's really been a 2 step forward 1 step back kind of journey, but I think this video (and all your other videos) are super helpful! Thank you so much!
and i thought i was the only one, now I'm thankful and grateful for you video, self discovery as painful as seeing the stupid things that i do when it comes to picking.
Thank you so much for watching Joanne :) You're absolutely not alone - there are in fact SO many of us who do the same thing. Progress over perfection :) Sending hugs xx
I've been doing this for 3 years now and from this day on (January 23rd) I will try to change and stop. I'll post an update on every 23rd of a month :) I really don't want to destroy myself anymore. I'm done with this shit! Thanks for the video and the inspiration!
Helena Antonia hey Helena! Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your personal journey - I know that’s not an easy thing to do. I admire your motivation and I’m sure you’ll do great, please don’t put too much pressure on yourself to stop completely as it’s a safety mechanism we’ve learnt over time to cope with life’s stresses. I’ve tried many times in the past to just stop and I’ve always ended up feeling like a failure but when you think about it, it was pretty unrealistic for me to do so as when the motivation leaves and the stresses return, I knew of no other method to relax. I’m here if you need help or support and I hope you continue to look after yourself as you deserve it ❤️
Hey Kim, thank you so much for your answer, I really appreciate it! And you were absolutely right, it definitely is no easy thing to do. Only a few days later I started again because I guess after doing something for years you just can‘t stop from one day to another. It needs time and I accept that. So now one month is over and my skin only got a very little bit better but that‘s okay too. I discovered that I‘m mostly picking when I‘m sitting in front of my laptop watching series or youtube videos. That‘s why I started putting make-up on before watching something, this way I look good and don‘t want to destroy it. Also, I read a few days about how some people stopped skin picking by starting with different zones. Like first the back, than the arms, than the face,..That‘s something I‘m trying right now, starting with the shoulders and back area. Update follows in a month! Thanks again ❤️ The comment section here certainly feels like a safe place.
Helena Antonia It is a safe place and it’ll always be so please feel free to keep me updated on your journey ☺️ no pressure though of course! Your self awareness is already helping you so much and will continue to do so. Also, the laptop thing is so so common - I’ve done the same for a very long time. I use sweet almond oil for those areas of the skin because a) my skin loves it and b) it makes it harder to pick. If you notice you want to start picking, maybe do what I do and do a 10 minute meditation using Headspace app. I swear that practice is changing my life!
@@KIMONSKIN Hey Kim, here we go again :) I am not ashamed to say that I failed. The past few weeks have been so intense, so stressful...the Corona virus made me cancel 2 international trips, I'm stuck at home. So although I tried, I wasn't able to stop picking. But I'm not angry neither do I blame myself. It may sound like an excuse but failing is human, especially in those hard times. What's important is, that you don't give up! And I certainly won't. Summer is coming, my body shape is improving rapidly thanks to the virus (I spend my time at home doing lots of workouts!) and I will make it. Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely try the oil! I can do it. I know it. It's always difficult before it gets easy :) Update follows next 23rd! Stay healthy and positive
Helena Antonia You’re doing incredibly well considering the current circumstances - there are many of us (including myself) that are feeling the consequences of heightened anxiety. Please know you’re not in this alone 💗 Take care and keep observing your thoughts when your urges are high or you catch yourself picking ☺️
this is my fav video about skin picking, seriously the only video that really spoke to me and is really helpful. I always come back to this to remind myself to be aware of this habit of skin picking
Thank you for your wise words. Yes Kim I agree, try meditation all of you out there, be patient with yourself you're giving yourself a little rest. Be kind to yourselves, you are self nurturing in your eyes and trying to fix yourselves. That's all, there's nothing to hate yourself for. All of us have a reason to be on this planet and we're all doing the best we can.
Been dealing with this for years but it got really bad five years ago when I started taking care of my mother and she died. As I think back, as a child, I did pick my sores. Additionally, have a eating disorder where I don't eat. This causes a round robin effect because now my sores are not going to heal as much because I'm not eating right.....take a vitamin. Better yet, find out what your body is deficient in. This video is great for general information on this subject as people who are picking probably have some self hate going on. This would be the mental issue that should be addressed with medication. To help with the anxyiety. Once your on some kind of med. i.e. prozac, then you will not pick as much, but you will still pick. There are things that you can do to help yourself not pick. One is to cut your nails as close as you can and then file them so their are no edges which would allow you to pick. Then you have to think about the healing process. How are you going to get these suckers to go away! Remember that your skin really does repair itself during the night, while you sleep. If you pick during the night, you will be unable to pick if you don't have any nails. Yes, you will probably resort to rubbing them, but that is not as bad as actually picking them. The process of finding how to heal your sores enough that you can't pick them will be what works for you with what knowledge you have about the healing process. You are suppose to keep the sore moist but this allows for the process of rubbing to work just as well as the actually picking. So what to do? I have found that if I use something like peroxide, let it dry then follow up with a healing ointment, then if you can cover the sore, let it rest. When you take the bandage off, follow up with cleaning to take off the ointment and then rub with lotion. Let dry and put more lotion on. If you have to do this three times, that's ok. Eventually, with no nails, you will be unable to pick because your nails just slide over the sore. Now, the type of lotion is soooooooo important because not all loitions will penetrate into your skin. They will just lay on top. I have found a lotion at WalMart by Equate called Diabetics Lotion for dry skin. It's the best I've found and believe me when I say I've tried lots of lotions!! My picking has mainly been below the neck, but I did have some sores on my noise which have left scars, And I actually have one right now on the side of my noise that I'm trying to deal with. I must have done something right because I can't feel it, but when I look in the mirror, I can see it. I picked it a couple of times, then took a Qtip, dipped it in proxide and then put the ointment on and didn't pick. If you can work hard at doing these things and get yourself to not pick for a couple of days, you will notice that your sores will start healing. Then even if you pick, if you zero in on doctoring the ones that are the worse during the day AND at night, keeping your nails short and filed, and trying to not pick for at least a full day....come on you can do that! Then the healing process will begin and even though you may still pick, it will be more difficult.......yes you will search around for that one, but it will be difficult to even pick that one if you keep it moisturized! Good Luck Everyone. Hoped this help. Happy Healing!!!!!
Kim!!! This is amazing, I have waited so long for this! Congrats on the launch of your channel, I'm so proud of you and I can't believe how amazing your first video is, these tips are genuinely soooo helpful and you've been such a huge part of my healing journey, seriously. Can't wait for more content!
Crazy Creative Cool Thank you so so much Suz! It means so much to me to have amazing, loving and supportive people in my life such as yourself, that understand the derma journey firsthand. No more feeling alone; no more feeling ashamed! We’re doing good things ☺️❤️
I was thinking of uploading my skin journey to youtube but I was going to get into hair-pulling sort of in order to not harm the skin but knowing it is a type of mania as well I better not = stay in that self-harm = self-calm space. I don't know that I should but I do agree that we ought to band together. I am trying to implement self-care to counteract it. i will say here and others may agree that I use skin picking as a security blanket to avoid new experiences or personal advancement subconsciously but the mentality is if my skin has been picked and I had all these plans to be productive or even go to one place, I decide not to go because I have picked and inflamed skin and a case of your step 2. but it really helps to see zooming out even more steps and other ways to break such a frustrating cycle.
Crystal Hotham Thank you so much for sharing your story Crystal. I completely understand and definitely have used skin-picking as a way to avoid new experiences because the unknown can be really scary. I hope in term you will learn more about yourself and become comfortable with who you are, creating boundaries for yourself that make you feel good daily 💗
Wow I never knew I had this ! I am so grateful to stumble upon this video! Thank you I am 15 and I am grateful someone telling me ways to stop this as soon as possible I thought I was just not normal and never knew I should observe and let it go and not pressure myself and find my triggers. Thank you so much !!!!
You're so welcome my lovely. If someone told me these things at 15, I'd be a very different person so I'm glad I can help you in some way. You're not alone! Take care x
I am in this streak of letting go and not acting on my impulses. I just finished meditation and feeling good after some thoughts about skin picking I feel much better .
KIM ON SKIN thank you so much , meditation is helping me in every aspect of my life full of anxiety and stress but now I am meditating twice a day and haven’t picked my skin since I watched your video .I am going to continue like this for as long as I can many many years ❤️☺️
Thank you for talking about this. I'm going to try to follow these tips. Good to know there are other people struggling too. What you say really makes sense and makes you look at the problem from a different perspective.
I was driving home and telling myself.. I have tackled all of my addictions. I’m a recovering alcoholic, drugs addict, smoker and doom scroller. I have been clean of all of these vices for 6 months. “OF COURSE I CAN QUIT SKIN PICKING” .. within just one hour of being home I went in on my face for nearly 2 hours… now I’m here lol thank you for your content

This is my biggest problem and insecurity I’ve had this since preschool and I’m in 7th grade now and I still have it it use to be way worse the scabs were as big as quarters on my face when I was in preschool this video really helped me
Natalie Duke I’m really sorry to hear you’ve been having a hard time with compulsive skin picking Natalie but I’m glad this video has helped in some way 💗 Life can be pretty tough and sometimes how we really feel (stress or worry for example) can surface through something else if we struggle to communicate how we’re feeling. You’re not alone though, an estimated 1 in 50 people have a body focused repetitive behaviour such as skin-picking! Now imagine that - next time you’re somewhere busy such as a train platform of 1,000 people, remember that 20 of those people, somewhere in the crowd, are secretly dealing with stuff similar to you. And that’s just those with BFRB, not including others with various mental conditions such as anxiety or depression. We’re not alone my lovely, always here if you need to chat 💗
joshiya joseph Thank you Joshiya! I’ve had dermatillomania for many years but have only been managing it for over a year now - definitely life-changing!❤️
Thank you so much for your videos! I really looked for a person that overcame it. I fight it for 12 years in total I think, now I go through therapy, and I do meditate, but this really takes time. Will definitely try bringing some awareness into that and try an app. Meditation right when you have an urge - this is very difficult ....
Thank you so much bullies at school hurt my fingers that I picked like mad and were bleeding and they thought I was faking and putting ketchup and I hurt crazy tysm u earned a sub
Krish I’m so sorry to hear this Krish 😞 bullies are the most judgemental and insecure people deep down because they feel inadequate. If they didn’t, they’d leave other people alone to live their lives ❤️ I’m sorry they made you cry but keep your head up! You’re stronger than any bully xxx
Krish 😞 People can be so mean! Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram - I’m found under the handle @kimonskin and I’m happy to chat to you more about this ❤️
I needed this a lot 🖤 I am so hard on myself for doing this. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it anymore. gonna try out the meditation thing and see if that helps. thank you for this
EXO Kaisoo You’re very welcome and please keep me updated on how you get on. It’s something that you may feel the urge to stop once you feel better (that’s really normal) as deeper work is being done and that can feel uncomfortable at first but keep going! Always here if you wanna talk💗
I just tell myself it wont fix anything, it will only create a wound to heal and introduce bacteria that might cause any wound to become infected. The key is to simply not start. I have to tell myself showering and moisturising will take care of any flaky skin etc. I don't put myself down though I just imagine all of my skin being healed and not red or inflamed and that helps. I do find it hard to let go of because i the moment it seems like a great idea to get smooth skin. It has taken months but I think of it differently now. The other key for me is to wear more clothes so I dont feel any inconstistencies on my skin.
For me its my hands primarily, i do it to my face too which until today i handnt even really thought about the fact that what i do to my face is even related to what i do to my hands but i have more control over that i can wait until i get home for my face but with my hands its litterally everywhere, all day, every day, when im driving, when im working, shopping, litterally everywhere and my hands are just so so sore all the time i wish i could just get rid of it and never get the urge to do it again
What do you do if you don't have any noticeable triggers? I more so do it just randomly, but all day. In the same spot my whole life... Maybe it's overthinking that does it. Or thinking at all. I do it when. Happy, when sad, when sleepy.. it's like an addiction more than a way to cope with something. I kind of wish it was a CERTAIN trigger you know. Would be simpler
So mine started off when hormones changed during menopause i started off picking my bottom lip as it was dry all time then it went from lip to face ,neck and scalp i dont kno the triggers i know i'm doing it because i catch myself doing it loads during the day I've never had a day in two years where its stopped of gone away & give me a break :(
Plz someone help me I picked up blackheads on my face Although I've healed the wound from it but there is still light deep black dark spot on it.Plz help me how to clean all black spots.😭😔
Logicial god hey, I’m sorry to hear you’re having a hard time with this. So it’s no longer a wound? If that’s the case, perhaps it would be helpful to rub some skin-healing oil such as tumanu or even a very low strength retinoid that will help to brighten the area. Again it depends on how fresh the area is and what your skin will respond well to. If you do go for a retinoid - be sure to apply that before bed and use sunscreen during the day as it makes your skin super sensitive 💗
Hi, I'm actually struggling a LOT right now, and I feel like thinking that ONE DAY my skin could recover, and be beautiful again would help me. I actually fall into it more when I feel like I can't heal what I did, and im gonna have to wear makeup for the rest of my life for what I did. Is that possible? Recovering and obtaining that "glass skin"?
I drink a lot of water before going to bed and use a facial mask and thermal water to calm down the skin. Zinc supplements and vitamin c is also good for skin regeneration!
Carolina Alves hey Carolina, both! Quite often the case I would focus on another area whilst a previously-picked area would be left to heal. Most common areas for me are shoulders, chest, upper arms, back and thighs
@@KIMONSKIN Thank you for sharing! I could use some tips for backne, let me know if you have some. Congratulations on your channel and please keep making more videos like these!
I'm learning a lot from your content and am grateful. However, this constant loop of happy music is annoying and distracts from what you're saying. Just do intro music & outtro... just your beautiful voice is enough for the bulk of the video. 🙂

I’m so happy to find someone to relate to about this. I’ve been picking for at least 17 years. Thank you for making these videos. ❤️
this is my fav video about skin picking, seriously the only video that really spoke to me and is really helpful. I always come back to this to remind myself to be aware of this habit of skin picking
Omg I feel like you've lived my life! Thank you Kim!
Couldn't agree more Jackie! Little by little we'll get better - progress over perfection :)
It is so true! I even do the part with "imaginary scenario" in my head. I thought I am like the only person who does it 😱
Been dealing with this for years but it got really bad five years ago when I started taking care of my mother and she died.
Thank you so much !!!!
You're so welcome my lovely. If someone told me these things at 15, I'd be a very different person so I'm glad I can help you in some way. You're not alone! Take care x

KIM ON SKIN omg Thankyou so much I’m literally crying Thankyou for your help💗💗
Natalie Duke You’re very welcome Natalie 💕 Be kind to yourself today, one day at a time xxx

joshiya joseph Thank you Joshiya! I’ve had dermatillomania for many years but have only been managing it for over a year now - definitely life-changing!❤️
That sounds amazing♥️
MOST AMAZING VIDEO! THANK YOU YOURE MY HERO 😭😭🎉🎉

EXO Kaisoo You’re very welcome and please keep me updated on how you get on. It’s something that you may feel the urge to stop once you feel better (that’s really normal) as deeper work is being done and that can feel uncomfortable at first but keep going! Always here if you wanna talk💗
Super helpful and relatable thank you :)
Great video but next time maybe try to look at the camera more often as it engages the watcher more because you seem to look everywhere! Great video!
Krish Thank you!☺️
@@KIMONSKIN no problem!
WOW great video thank you!
Great content, an amazing chanel and a wonderful piece of advice💜
Isidora thank you very much Isidora 💗
A trigger of mine was mirrors. if I took all the mirrors away in my house, or away from access, even covering them with a towel helped
It's just a matter of time 🎶
Maybe swimming will help you. For me, it worked by drying out my skin.
I've been suffering/struggling with dermatillomania for at least 5 or 6 years now. Maybe this year i can finally put an end to this...
@@KIMONSKIN Awww thank you for that one And what to do of freshly picked blackhead wound cause I've one which I did just before watching your video 😂😭
I pick all the time and I do not know to stop ?
Hey.. How can I help my freshly picked skin to heal as fast as possible?
Do u know?
I drink a lot of water before going to bed and use a facial mask and thermal water to calm down the skin. Zinc supplements and vitamin c is also good for skin regeneration!
You are so pretty
Was your skin picking on your face or body?
Carolina Alves hey Carolina, both! Quite often the case I would focus on another area whilst a previously-picked area would be left to heal. Most common areas for me are shoulders, chest, upper arms, back and thighs
@@KIMONSKIN Thank you for sharing! I could use some tips for backne, let me know if you have some. Congratulations on your channel and please keep making more videos like these!
Thank you
Thank you for watching! 😊
I'm learning a lot from your content and am grateful. However, this constant loop of happy music is annoying and distracts from what you're saying. Just do intro music & outtro... just your beautiful voice is enough for the bulk of the video. 🙂
