The dial on the one dragon claw wall in the thieves guild quest has the dials set to two birds and one snake. Mercer is the snake, and gallus and karliah are the nightingales. Real cool
The first sign was Mercer letting us know that he was aware that we were after him. The second sign was a taunt. And the third was plain disrespectful. Assuming that we needed the help in order to catch up to him. I still took the potions. Because, y’know, free potions. “Im gonna take this, but I’m very offended by it”.
Those detect life scrolls are also a not so subtle suggestion from Mercer to "Get a Life." Little did he know, that little taunt of his would be his undoing.
Why would they flip the text? Having Mercer leave little taunts through the whole dungeon would have been really good and given him a little more charactisation.

This dungeon, Markarth museum, and goldenglow are so well designed with bypassing and places to hide. If ever area was so well designed skyrim would probably surpass most of the giants for game design.

Think they meant to represent about where to go I'm terms of the guild. The strength potion representing that the theives guild rebuilding stronger and changing to get stronger. Being powerful The potion of healing on the other hand is to just heal the wound that mercer made and continue to be used by maven or serve nocturnal. Which makes sense. The strength potion only lasts for a while, but that strength can change the outcome in combat. But with the healing potion, it's a remedy for your mistakes, It's a scapegoat that everyone goes to. Im likely overthinking it, but its a group representation for change

You know what place I wonder about the most sometimes? That shack on Solstheim that has a cellar that also has a hidden area that leads into what looks like a part of a Dwemer ruin. Has anybody ever figured out if this place is important? Is it important to lore? Are their secrets about the place I don't know about?
As far as I’m aware it has something to do with old forgotten gods/ the earth bones in some respect. There is no real information on it, just creepy Dwarven things. I believe FudgeMuppet has a video on it.

I just went through that dungeon again yesterday (Irkngthand?) looking for dwemer scrap metal (that was a waste, the place was almost totally empty) and got stuck at the last door (the room that ends up flooded in the quest). I completely forgot that was the dungeon where you go after Mercer...and I never noticed the thieves' signs either time! Good job.
The thieves quest line is a simile of the main quest in Morrowind. Look at all the quest names and the thieves' relationships. One of was even the gf that was accused of murdering bf. Instead of the heart of Lorkhan, it was a skeleton key, 'do we use it or lose it?'. Falmer 'blind sighted'. Trinity restored, etc
The reason ES6 is taking so long is because they only began working on it a few years ago, and won’t start full-time development until they finish Starfield.

Mercer is easily one of the top ten most vilified characters in ALL Elder Scrolls games. Maybe not THE most, but certainly up there. Too satisfying cleaving him apart when I finally caught up with him.

Skyrim's still one of Steam's most bought and played games. And it probably does pretty well on console too. You're definitely not the only one still playing it. I personally start up a modded playthrough every few weeks. Game's such a gem.
Recently I started another playthrough to unlock every single achievement available. So no mods no cheats just skill. Playing it on master difficulty. So far I'm only left with the house, werewolf, and vampire achievements.
Yeah I think it's called Shadowmarks. I carry it with me because I'm always looking for the symbol on buildings and can never remember what each symbol means. Great way to know if breaking into a house or building is worth it. They have stashes hidden in all kinds of weird places.

It is not the dovahkiin who destorys the Dark Brotherhood but rather Astrid. Mercer also betrays the dovahkiin but the thieves guild has a chokehold on Riften so there's not much that can be done with regards to 'destroying' the guild

There is a book by a bed in the guild hideout "Shadow Marks" that explains all of the symbols.
It’s insane after all these years since Skyrim came out people are still discovering new things with this game.
This is just one amazing example of why the Thieve's guild is my favorite faction in Skyrim

I think I was on my second or third run-through of Thieves Guild when I realized the writing on that one wall in Irkngthand. That was cool.
The physical book guide to Skyrim I bought when the game came out had a list of the thief markings. I still use the book when I play today.

It is not the dovahkiin who destorys the Dark Brotherhood but rather Astrid. Mercer also betrays the dovahkiin but the thieves guild has a chokehold on Riften so there's not much that can be done with regards to 'destroying' the guild
