  • This video was played on screens in the cabin of the Airbus A300B4 aircraft while flight attendants conducted the safety demonstration for passengers before take off. As the launch customer in the United States, the Pan Am took delivery of the Airbus A300B4 on December 23, 1984. The presenter is JFK-based Purser Anne Owen.
    Special thanks to Linda Reynolds for saving a collection of safety and training VHS tapes after the airline closed on December 4, 1991.

    I miss working for PanAm I worked for the airline for 4 years until the last day on December 4 1991 when they announced all operations were suspended I immediately got hired with American Airlines and I just retired after 33 years I miss flying on the 747 plane ✈️

    I flew onboard a PanAm A300 as a kid.

    1980s: Extinguish any cigarettes before putting on your oxygen mask,
    2020s: Remove any face covering before putting on your oxygen mask
    While I never went on a "smoking" flight, I do remember when ashtrays were standard equipment in every seat

    Interesting difference between Airbus and Boeing planes: on Airbuses, the oxygen mask compartment door is turned 90 degrees relative to on a Boeing jet.

      The Airbus orientation is more resistant to coming open in a crash.

    I remember this well - 1988! These were the days that there was a mystique about things, things were comfortable, there was variety. Nowadays everything is sterile and boring. I dunno - hard to explain.

      Nothing to explain. Everything was more whimsical and everything was an adventure. Now everything looks like a fake Apple Store including the airport itself.
