Right on Nancy has a pretty good singing voice not as powerful or the range as Ann did, but she still has a good voice. I for whatever reason never realize it was Nancy singing this one not Ann. Did Nancy sing any other Heart tracks?
I thought Ann sang Theirs The Girl. Yeah great track also it should of been a hit single too. I thought this song was off their follow up album that had the hit All I Wanna Do ( Is Make Love To You) on it.
I heard something once that when they recorded this in the studio, Nancy had a bit of a cold, which could explain why her voice sounds the way it does here.
As others have said, it’s interesting that Nancy’s voice was gravelly and raspy when she recorded this song. It was initially offered to Stevie Nicks (who is known for her gravelly and raspy voice) for her third solo album Rock A Little (1985). Stevie turned it down in favor of Talk To Me, which went to #5. These Dreams went to #1 for Heart.
I think you missed the point. Her life is full of pain and she's happiest when she's asleep when her heart shows her the life she yearns for! " THESE DREAMS ARE THERE WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES...EVERY SECOND OF THE NIGHT...I LIVE ANOTHER LIFE....THESE DREAMS I SLEEP WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE....EVERY SECOND I'M AWAKE...THE FURTHER I'M AWAY....#thinkaboutit
This song was dedicated to Nancy Wilson's good friend Sharon Hess who died from leukemia just before the song was released. The lyrics of the song describe the fantasy world a person enters when faced with a difficult situation in real life...it's deep.
I remember this video being played on MTV along with Princes's Kiss and others in the spring of 1986 vividly. They played these hits all the time. Now we all know what happened to MTV since then. lol
You should check out Hearts history. Its a really cool story. I grew up on this. We deemed Ann and Nancy the queens of rock and roll a long time ago. Now, they are goddesses. Have you seen , "Heart honors Led Zepplin at the Kennedy Center. best cover of all time. Thanks India, I love watching your reactions.
Yes it is, and they also did a great cover as another band to the movie singles. Battle of evermore or sumding. And India got this video all wrong. It is more about being perfect, and being desired by all, so the partner should desire them too., in the dreams If it is about relationships at all, which it is not.Just about people dreaming about being desired, and talking to a partner..
They discussed the meaning of this song on an interview, a good friend was dying of Leukemia and she told Nancy how she loved sleeping because her dreams were more enjoyable than when she was awake..for obvious reasons..
giggles...This song ist simply about Ann und Nancy Wilson living their dream life as the rock group Heart. It ist not so complicated as you're trying to make it out to be....smiles
What is amazing about his band is how both sisters can go from lead to back up singers on any song. The way they his band can switch it lead singers is not only unbelievable but unfathomable because too many bands try to do it but can NEVER make hits from more than one singer in he same band. They are legendary. Their legacy on the music industry will NEVER be equaled. They are a treasure of the music industry, and for those to think they are not, like the dumbass who didn’t believe they were sisters but thought they were lesbians(which prompted the song “Barracuda”. That just shows what these women went through, only to silently, most likely behind closed doors, to forge a new path for women musicians. They are unrivaled, two of the pioneers of what rock music is nowadays.
Posted an hour ago, over 600 hits... 🙂. The views will come... from those of us who may be a "little older"... Hearts "will you be there" is a rocker... Crank up the volume on that one.
Excellent reaction video!!! I have this album on vinyl and several on cd. This is one of my most favorite songs especially by Heart. If you enjoyed this then you have to listen to some of their Barracuda and Crazy On You! These songs rock hard and are impossible to resist! I guarantee you’ll get rocked! Definitely amongst some of the best music to come from the 80’s!!!! I miss the 80’s so much and flying down the highway in the summertime with the windows down listening to songs like Barracuda.
Something I can appreciate now about 80's music was how often these amazing artists were still in the spotlight. Singers and groups such as Heart, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones, they'd been around for a decade or two and they continued putting out new music and finding new fans. Nowadays, the new fans aren't from the artist's latest song on the radio, but from digital "word of mouth" as it were, such as channels like this one 🎧🎶❤️
She has done that as well as Crazy on You a while ago. I agree too. There is a difference between 70's and 80's Heart, which makes them incredible artists. They stood the test of time and kept it rockin. Any artists of worth can change with the times to accommodate the changing crowd to keep up with the times. Not all can. Some just have their moment and then they disappear. To be versatile is truly an accomplishment. Not many see it as so. Things change. Can't always stay they same. You become stagnate if you never evolve.
for one thing, anyone who saw them live, or knew thier 70's albums, they should have been alongside the Van Halen/ Bon Jovi/ Def Leppard/ Lita ford rockers, but their studio work got mastered like it was pop music. I'm sure there was worse they put up with, but as much as I love their 80s work, in retrospect I can hear the studio work softening what could have been a rock album.
For good reason. Their 70s stuff was genuine and just better. They saw the 90s bands like Alice In Chains coming out of their hometown and it made them realize what they were missing. Real music. That’s why Ann Wilson sang on some Alice In Chains songs. She knew they were making some real shit
Wow, thanks for reacting to the best songs of the 80s. Hopefully more people your age will watch this and classical rock music will never die. Take care beautiful soul!
This was the point when "they"(video producers, directors) decided Ann's weight was a problem. They kept her out of the front line as much as they could. Very sad, considering she's one of the best voices ever in rock n roll. She has battled her weight her whole life, and the fact that the power's that be thought that was an issue is messed up. Her talent say's it all. Wasn't a problem for anyone but them.
Such an amazing band with a magnificent duo in Ann and Nancy Wilson! Their discography is amazing and I am so happy you reacted/reviewed this India. Wonderful reaction as always. 😊
Your understanding of the lyrics of the song is almost there. It is indeed talking about dreaming of what life could be like, but at the same time being afraid of the shadows and darkness of something that's hidden in the mist, but which you can't resist. The pull of death. that no one can resist.
This song just brings those butterflies and warmth of young love crashing back. Such a different time, but more importantly such a vital time for my life. Not to mention Ann and Nancy are absolute rock goddesses. Next to Janis they're the absolute best.
This is like REO Speedwagon "In My Dreams" "All I know is that you love me, in my dreams" and Ann and Nancy sing "Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away"
This was their first hit since becoming an 80's band. They didn't write the song, and it was ironic that it was Nancy that sang it. (obviously Ann usually did). They literally sold their souls for rock and roll, giving up creative control, and the record companies brought in professional song writers. Then they had to go for sex appeal. That wasn't difficult since Nancy could have been a professional model with the figure to boot. If you listen to Bebe Le Strange, you'll see why they got the ultimatum. I liked all their 70's stuff, I started listening to them with the album Dreamboat Annie.
This song reminds me of the winter of 1986. It was playing on the radio all the time. I was young a dating a girl in her senior year. 1986 was the best year of my life. Heart sure had some good songs.
Nancy sings a hauntingly beautiful song called "Nada One". She also showcases her acoustic guitar playing throughout the song. If you haven't heard it, you should.
Martin Page and Bernie Taupin wrote this. MP played keyboards in Ghostbusters and wrote songs with Mr. Mister. MP had a solo career with his signature song In the House of Stone and Light, also the name of the album. Nancy plays this on guitar or keyboards when she sings this in concerts.
Kinda like when you sleep at night and your dreams are all over the place because your subconscious mind is at work, of course, most people don't remember them once they wake up in the morning. You know Heart is the two Wilson sisters and both are amazing musicians been around a long time. This video was pure 80s was fun to see the styles but the Music of Heart is timeless. Definately makes you feel and think. Love what you are doing India!!!!
This tune and "Never" is from the '80s. You need to catch their earlier stuff from the '70s. I saw them in 1977 on their tour for their 2nd album "Little Queen". Chack out "Barracuda", "Crazy on You" and others from 1976 & 1977.
I have seen them in concert many times. Have you heard of The Warning? 3 sisters who play "new classic" music like the 1970's and '80's. This is Dust to Dust with the drummer singing lead *while drumming* : ruclips.net/video/yV8gpIrIR9s/видео.html
Oh, man - when I was in college the rec room in my dorm had a juke box and it only had like 20 songs on it and this was one of them. So, I heard it over and over while playing pool or ping-pong while avoiding doing class work. (Another was "We Built This City" by Starship. HA!)
India.....sometime on your own, see if you can search for any sort of documentary like.....maybe an old episode of 'Behind the Music'.....on Heart. I think there are several available.
i thought this was the song/video where they tried to make Nancy "the focus/lead" of the band due to Anne's weight/stage freight. where its actually Anne on vocals but they make it look like Nancy is the singer. i know they tried it, but i cant remember at which point or album this happened on. its bee too long since ive watched their Behind The Music
Numbnuts, it's Nancy singing lead on this song, not Ann. This song is uniquely Nancy Wilson and Ann was the first to admit it. Nancy has always said she "fought" to sing this song and actually was suffering from a cold when it was recorded. The producer liked the raspiness in her voice. Watch any live video from 1985 on and you'll see Ann is strictly singing backup vocals.
Love your videos. I would like to suggest you listen to the Heart in Seattle Live version of this song. It’s done 25-30 years after this video, so you can compare the sound. But the main thing about it is that you can hear the nuance that singing a lifetime with your sister brings. The way the two just WORK make the song sound better than the original. No need for a reaction, just for your edification.
I love their 1980's hits best! I wish they didn't always try to hide Ann because of her weight. She is beautiful and has soo much talent. Even in her 70's she sounds amazing live. I saw her perform last year. It was perfection!
The big-hair 80s. It was nice that Nancy got to sing lead. She doesn't have Ann's pipes but she did a great job here.
Right on Nancy has a pretty good singing voice not as powerful or the range as Ann did, but she still has a good voice. I for whatever reason never realize it was Nancy singing this one not Ann. Did Nancy sing any other Heart tracks?
@@jefffaust89 I know she sang There's The Girl also, an underrated single off this same album.
From what I've heard, this is the only song, by Heart, where Nancy was lead singer......Beautiful song!!!
Fun Fact: Nancy Wilson was sick when she recorded her vocals for this song, which made her voice sound gravelly and raspy.
And one of the record people liked it so much they asked her if she could get sick again.
And the audiences at their concerts were disappointed her natural voice didn't have that same edge.
She put her HEART in that track!!
As others have said, it’s interesting that Nancy’s voice was gravelly and raspy when she recorded this song. It was initially offered to Stevie Nicks (who is known for her gravelly and raspy voice) for her third solo album Rock A Little (1985). Stevie turned it down in favor of Talk To Me, which went to #5. agree. this is not just about fantasizing. it's based on a painful life
Nancy singing lead instead of Ann, both very good singers
Yeah she should have sang more
Nancy tried, and she did great. She doesn't have her sister's power and range though!
@@polyprinz Very few do.
I LOVE "Heart" since the 1980s! BEAUTIFUL song!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song was dedicated to Nancy Wilson's good friend Sharon Hess who died from leukemia just before the song was released. The lyrics of the song describe the fantasy world a person enters when faced with a difficult situation in real life...it's deep.
I never knew that, thank you.
NOW YOU’RE ON TO GREATNESS! No better harmonies than siblings.
I miss the eighties. Every day
I feel this. We GenX'ers have had quite a ride.
Same here. I wish I would have appreciated this stuff more when so was young.
Yes, truer words never said
Nancy Wilson sings lead on ' These Dreams ' instead of Ann Wils on. Also the song was co-written by Bernie Taupin, Elton John's co-writer.
Thought so!!
If I am not mistaken this song was written for Stevie Nicks, but she turned it down.
I think read that too but I wasn't certain.
Nope, Ann sings it. Well Technically they both do, but Ann has most of the lead.
@@TheStefan6969 sorry nancy is credited with lead for the song. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/These_Dreams
I really love that song... One of my favorite videos when I was a kid.
My dad had this album, Bad Animals, Dreamboat Annie, and Magazine. I grew up on Heart. Ann is one the female singers ever and Nancy is a rock goddess.
I like your interpretation and trying to understand the song and the video, this is my favorite song by heart.
