I want it to be known that my friend asked Marc laidlaw on Twitter if he voiced "the black seargant" and Marc responded with No?. My friend would not shut the fuck up about the human Seargant for days on end
there are a few things that could be candidates for an alien sergeant 1. organic chainsaw (long shot but maybe) 2. black hole alien (dont remember the name but it's very interesting if you can find it) 3 or alternatively, the grunt was supposed to command the vortigaunts (this is unlikely though)
The weapon mesh does have animations but it was always a separate mesh for the monster, and there is nothing in the code to suggest it was a weapon. It did slip my mind while making the video so I'll probably stick it into a episode focused on the weapons in the game.
Ah, quite a nice thing to see videos like these that go into depth but aren't afraid to give a little bit of personality to themselves. Have you ever had a shot at trying to create a working npc rendition of, say, the floaters or stukabats, maybe even the kingpins or Mr Friendly?
Awesome video! I’d like to see more like it. There’s a lot of interesting cut enemies (this guy would also be a pretty good boss for HL: Year of the Dragon like near Surface Tension or Forget About Freeman)
His gun looks more like a GAU-19 with the three barrels and heat shield... it looks far too small to fire the 20mm round you mentioned... it looks to be 12.7x99 mm or as its commonly know as .50 caliber..
The flocking floater. I would love you to talk about it, if you want, of course. by the way, great video, I didn't know there was an old version of the ambush.
In a way the human sergeant WAS resurrected in the retail at least his earliest variant with the M60 in Half Life Opposing Force with the M249 grunt that Shephard would occasionally encounter across Black Mesa, yeah he doesn't have the LAW rocket launcher attack but his heavy weapon the M249 is a much more period accurate weapon for the HECU given that the Black Mesa Incident took place around the end of the 1990s to the early 2000's had the BM Incident took place in the late 80's I could see the HECU sporting the M60 as a heavy weapon in their arsenal.
BRO, this is going to go far I can feel it, maybe you could look at stuff like the female scientist and even beta and alpha versions of retail monsters
I actually have something simillar to the Human Sergeant, the Shotgun Sergeant. Her armor is based of the Ordinal but has the Charger’s shotgun. And yes, she will have similar abilities as Human Sarge.
looks like he was inspired from "The Predator" (1987) and the beta human grunts seem to have some sort of inspiration from it too since they appear to hold a colt m16a1 with a grenade launcher
He seems to have been too powerful for an enemy encountered often, he would of worked better as a miniboss in either "Surface Tension" or "Forget about Freeman".
Can we all just be really happy that valve released this late, cuz if they had hit their schedule.. they would have been in that cross section between when painted on eyes were a thing that small cross-section that we we ran from as fast as we could.. condolences to the board games that didn't make that window, but if this game had come out of your earlier LOL, I'm just genuinely horrific flashbacks to that monolith game, which was a good game but fucking a.. those fucking eyes LOL there's only about a year when texture definition had like enough definition to do that and also terrify you at the same time but geometry detail hadn't caught up, and I can see why that was that was a very very very common and and widely adopted trend in the quickest of of trend manners LOL... Well we could spend our budget on big boss fight and an extra game place against or we could have 3D eyes.. yeah fuck it who cares you know boss fights are gay.. yeah I vote we spend all of it on on these eyes, our texture artists.. they stopped talking about 2 months ago, and and I think two of them are still in the broom closet.. if anything this pays for itself... Lol, Sam are you still down to mortgage your house? Cuz I've already sold my children at this point like let's let's get those eyes yeah we don't we don't need a polygon budget for for yeah let's just use sprites it's 98 let's yeah it'll just be like a lot of sprites like do we do we really need to go full 3d here, we.. Something I hadn't thought about because you almost never saw it thankfully because back then developers were human, and they understood.. some some things were just not cool LOL.
Is there a mod for the half life alpha that fixes the sergeant? If I remember correctly, he doesn't appear in the game because his model couldn't be found
His model is in the game files for the alpha, but the game code for him is missing. He is however in the demo files that play within the alpha because those demos actually contain game code which is interesting.
From the concept art, I would have made the opposite guess and said Sergeant matched up with Chuck's work more... Not sure if that was a joke or not on your part?
It's not a joke, and even after talking to Marphy about it today it seems that neither of them made the art if you base it on their hand writing. It could of been done by another artist entirely.
I can see what you mean if you're saying it looks more like a concept that Chuck would draw, but I think he meant it looks more like Ted's art style. Ted's stuff was definitely more "out there" in general.
:forklift:
🚜 me when no forklift emoji
A Marphy Black video, but with commentary.
Epic vid.
Human Sergeant:You Dead! You Hear Me?! Dead!
Me:no you
Can we get some Flocking Floater action next?
No
I am curious about the Panther Eye. They look badass.
5:11 I guess the Sergeant is about to execute a scientist and a vortigaunt rudely interrupts them by killing one or the other maybe even both
Nice vid! Looks like Sargeant evolved into the Combine Suppressor, Valve doesnt let a concept go, it seems.
The OG Heavy Weapons Guy.
Interesting stuff, I never knew a model existed of a non-minigun sergeant. I'd like to see some Stukabatage next, that one looks so cool.
humor and editing is on point!
I appreciate that you play with texture filtering turned off.
I want it to be known that my friend asked Marc laidlaw on Twitter if he voiced "the black seargant" and Marc responded with No?. My friend would not shut the fuck up about the human Seargant for days on end
This was the og heavy weapons guy tf2
funny how this never continued but is still a playlist
It will resume after the next yotd demo
I like how almost every half life game got something leaked about it
the background music should be quieter, it's hard to hear you at times
Noted!
Human Sergeant implies that there is a Alien Sergeant
His voice is really badass they should have kept it for a squad leader
there are a few things that could be candidates for an alien sergeant
1. organic chainsaw (long shot but maybe)
2. black hole alien (dont remember the name but it's very interesting if you can find it)
3 or alternatively, the grunt was supposed to command the vortigaunts (this is unlikely though)
His voice is a sample from A-Team.
The original sample (at 1:23):

Scientists, serargent and slave alien sounds like a bad porno
Thank god for those sources
Very nice work! A good watch indeed.
How about the Stukabat?
What about the weapon? If I remember right there's a prototype viewmodel at the HL SDK so maybe it was meant to be picked up, like some mods did?
The weapon mesh does have animations but it was always a separate mesh for the monster, and there is nothing in the code to suggest it was a weapon. It did slip my mind while making the video so I'll probably stick it into a episode focused on the weapons in the game.
@@MagicNipples The only indication I can think of about it being a usable weapon, would be the Chain ammo in the files.
Sven COOP actually included the Human Sergeant in a special version of the mod (before the standalone release). He works a lot like TF2's heavy.
That was awesome. I do love the redux version you did. Respect.
The head model was reused for a hgrunt that uses the mp5 grenade launcher.
best half life file series video ive ever seen even comes with a built version of the thing just wow
I would like to know more about stukabats.
(or pre-alpha version of the game aka quiver)
would be nice to hear about panther eye or kingpin :)
Ah, quite a nice thing to see videos like these that go into depth but aren't afraid to give a little bit of personality to themselves. Have you ever had a shot at trying to create a working npc rendition of, say, the floaters or stukabats, maybe even the kingpins or Mr Friendly?
It would have been so cool fighting him.
in some alternate universe, we were all terrified to round corners in case we heard a *YOU DEAD, YOU HEAR ME, YOU DEAD*
sad that you never made more of these, good shi
Good format, good coverage and an interesting topic. Some small audio kinks, but overall, really solid video!
I did not know your channel, it is very epic
It would be cool to see him fight an Alien Grunt in hand to hand combat.
Awesome video! I’d like to see more like it. There’s a lot of interesting cut enemies
(this guy would also be a pretty good boss for HL: Year of the Dragon like near Surface Tension or Forget About Freeman)
Thanks for the video. Good information!
Seems similar to the suppressors in Alyx... I wonder if they took inspiration or if its just coincidence.
I like it and i love u, make more. What about make a Floater next time?
Restored adds the sergeant back which caught me off guard.
I'd like to think this guy lead to the creation of Suppressors from HL:A
In a way the human sergeant WAS resurrected in the retail at least his earliest variant with the M60 in Half Life Opposing Force with the M249 grunt that Shephard would occasionally encounter across Black Mesa, yeah he doesn't have the LAW rocket launcher attack but his heavy weapon the M249 is a much more period accurate weapon for the HECU given that the Black Mesa Incident took place around the end of the 1990s to the early 2000's had the BM Incident took place in the late 80's I could see the HECU sporting the M60 as a heavy weapon in their arsenal.
YES THANK YOU!
You are gonna wish you hadn't done that...
I'd like to see panthereye next
BRO, this is going to go far I can feel it, maybe you could look at stuff like the female scientist and even beta and alpha versions of retail monsters
There's a plan to cover cut and early aspects of npcs that made it into the game. Eventually after the cut enemies are done.
Heeeey I remember you ^^ Its hart buddy! Long time no see :D Still got those conscripts ya gave me.
MAKE MORE VIDEOS I LOVE THEM😤😤

I’d like a full release of what was left undone of shaft unless you’re planning on going back to it after preliminary
Check the ModDB page for Shaft. It has a link to the developer repository.
And no, none of us are returning to Shaft.

These guys would have been a fun challenge
it would be cool if you did a video on the snap bug, archer, and panthereye
Please do Mr. Friendly
You do HL 2 stuff? I would love to see your version of hydra. If not, then Mr. Friendly probably, he had some unique attack concepts
Awesome video on the Human Sergeant. I'm curious, are you interested on doing more Monster Files videos?
When is the next episode?
I would like to know more about Kingpin
awesome
6:49 - music name please. 7:02 - i wonder whose voice it is
6:16 link to remix?
it's just alpha diabolical adrenaline guitar
try mr friendly lmao
Should I tweet this to Tyler???
Do the panthereye please!
can someone give me a link to that goldsrc model viewer? I want to look at the alpha stuff. Thanks!
do the xen charger, it would be cool to see what the hell that thing is supposed to do and what not.
Is there anyway to put him back into the alpha .52? Im mapping for it and really want to use him!
SlaveScene has actually already been found even though it looks poorly animated.
Bruh Mr friendly please okay thanks

Hola cómo estás qué programa usa para editar las letras amarillas que le das click y se difumina ?
