My two littermate brothers, tabbies have completely different voices. Flearoy has a soft little voice, he calls to me to scratch him while he eats or to refresh his kibble. He never gets loud. Lynyrd must have meezer blood because he hits just about every vocalization possible except for chatter. AND...he never stops lol I recently took on three siblings from a neighbor, a ginger Tom and his two tortie sisters. They purr like cold diesels but have the tiniest sweetest high pitched voices! I swear they are part bat!
Oh yeah, neither Lynyrd nor Flearoy purr. Lynyrd does get a pyramidal ridge down the length of his back when he is exceptionally happy. I've never seen anything like it and I've been around a lot of kitty faces in my 67 years.
One of my 2 cats has me trained, she calls me when she has used the cat box. I once heard her call when she used the box and I cleaned it right away, that’s all it took for her to decide that I’m expected to clean her box as soon as she calls me. I’m well trained!
Mine too. He tells me when he wants to deficate or urinate first. He prefes to go outside and it saves me the task of cleaning the box. If I ignore it, then I clean the box. It is a distinctive sound if he wanmts to deficate. It can't be mistkaken for anything else.
One of mine wants company while he goes to the litter box. And since that was cute I started to get up when he meowed to join him in the bathroom. But he started to meow for getting candy, cuddle or play and since I work from home I can't always drop everything and play with him or go and cuddle on the bed even if I wanted to so I stopped getting up unless he was sitting near the bathroom... He quickly learnt that so he started to sit outside of the bathroom and call for me, and when I got up he ran to the kitchen or the bedroom 😆So I soon caught up on his plan so I started to only get up if he actually was in the bathroom... So he started to go in to the bathroom and meow and then run to the bedroom or kitchen... So now I started to only get upp if I heard him go in one of the boxes.... (he always digs a bit before he does his thing so I usually hear that...) But he understood that too and started banging och the box and fake dig sitting outside of the box just making sounds so I would come and then he ran off to the bed or the kitchen🤣. So I had to start ignoring that too🙁. I just couldn't dropp everything while in a meeting to go and cuddle even if I wanted to... So now I ignore it unless I'm off work so he stopped doing it daytime and only does it if I'm in the soffa... Now he can wait for me to stop working or for my partner to come home and demand that we walk him to his litterbox and then when he's done he runs to the bed or the kitchen :-) And if he has to go but no one joins him he always comes back meowing very low and grumpy like he's talking to him self muttering about the bad service.😂 He also calls for you when he's hiding under blankets and things like playing hide and seek... he goes hiding and then he wants me to find him. His brother on the other hand is much less vocal. He can sometimes call for attention or food and candy but usually he chatters... when there is birds outside or if I have candy in my hand and are about to put it in one of his activity boxes :-)
I have a 13-year old female, Molly. If I walk into a room she's in, she does this little “brrrrrrr” with a head up nod. It’s like she’s saying, “what’s up?” or “hey.”
For what it is worth I had an abscessed tooth and it caused me to be very sick. I was flat out on the couch and my cat sat on my stomach and purred. I am convinced they see purring as a healing thing. He was trying to help.
I have a rescue feral colony. My fur kids are humane society "working" cats, fixed and vaccinated but not considered adoptable It was so interesting that they were so silent. However, one of them has bonded with me and he has started meowing when he sees me and now the oldest and the most feral cat has started meowing to me too. We have spent several years getting them to trust us through the "kitty kiss-slow blink" lots of treats, catnip, fishing pole toys and respecting their boundaries.
Excellent video! I speak cat with my cat Skit all the time. I use “meh” which i have discovered can be used as acknowledgement like “yeah i know” or “ok” but if i say “meh” with questioning tone she receives it as something curious. I also “purr” in various context. Yes , i am single male lol
I'm allergic to cats, unfortunately, and a friend of mine used to put her cat, Pongo, in the basement when I would visit. One time my friend went to the bathroom before she put the cat away, and as Pongo walked past me, for some reason I purred, just on a whim. Pongo was almost out the living room door and immediately turned around, ran to me, and leapt up into my lap, purring! I realized he had taken my purring as an invitation to be petted, so I petted him, until my friend came. I had to. I'd inadvertently made a kind of promise! Then I washed my hands.
I have a chatty deaf cat so translating his strange noises to these is fun haha! No cute "meows" here 🤣 lots of "MOW!" And "MERRRR!" And his trilling sounds more like he's just gargling spit at you 🤣🤣🤣
Isn't it interesting how the yowl is used for both the pre-fight psych out (seemingly trying to avoid a fight by being perceived as the tougher cat by the other) and as a mating call? What I noticed is that the pitch of the mating call is slightly higher than the psych out. Also my one cat used to talk to me in long "sentences." He would string together 15, 20 or more tones while looking at me. I get the impression that, as I talk to my pets in normal speech and not baby talk, he picked up that this is how his human slave communicates, and tried to do the same. Finally, when the one cat would come into a room I was in, I would always ask, "How are you?" Eventually, he would walk into a room and go "wah-ohh-wah." It hit me one day that he was replicating the sound of the interrogatory "how are you." He wasn't doing the words, obviously, but the sound and pitch of it. He seemed to understand it was a greeting. What we can learn if we just pay attention... Take care.
My cat lived to 20 years of age, I grew up with her many different sounds and had a good idea what she wanted (more often than not attention, she was always picky with food and she loved being handled). She would occasionally catch mice, and she used to yowl once she entered the house with a mouse. We always knew when she'd caught something because she used to yowl; she didn't mind us taking her prey and would stop vocalising once we approached her to dispose of the mouse!
One of my cats is a "purr-meow" kinda cat & the other one trills or meows constantly. Usually it's for affection, play, or food. Love all their cat sounds❤️
I have 2 Maine Coons and they have a language all their own, something I haven't heard before in a cat. Not a meow or a hiss, they have trills or tribble sounds that are as long as some sentences. Very, very talkative they are, usually when they walk into the room, kinda announce their presence, they might interact if they are so inclined to jump up on my lap 😹
Aww man thats cute and cool! The majestic maine cooon! Or is it the calico.. whichever one is the big king like 😃 And yeah its weird and almost indistinguishable between the yowls and howls. But imo i think both is like an aggressive and something with so much energy that they are letting out whilst making that sound, be it fighting or the urge to bang another oops i mean mate.. lol cant get confused with animals and humans here 🤣😂😄
My mainecoon actually made a sound that actually sounded like mooooom...she called mom wherever she needed me or to know where I was... friends use to love her calling me...
I've had many cats in my lifetime. My present tuxedo darling is so intelligent, she is the only cat that realized she was looking at herself in the mirror ! 💜💕🐱💙
Love your energy and contributions here!! I have 2 VERY talkative cats with a hundred variations in their basic meows. They really tell you how it is, lol.
I adopted a four year old cat several months ago and she's a triller. She trills when she jumps up or down, or uses any physical exertion. It's so sweet to hear. The longer we're together, the moment I learn. Hopefully Dr. Wooten will cover non-verbal next!
My cat trills a lot too! Most of the time its when i pat and pet her outta nowhere when shes sleeping or relaxing or touch her.. lol but she trills as a greeting tho which is so lovely.
My little one is a triller too whenever she gets close to me and when I do the slow blink, she trills, rolls onto her back and shows me her fluffy white tummy 😍
my cat trills as a greeting, even when i’ve only been in other room for a few minutes, and only at me. she also meows when she wants me to stop moving around so much and sit down somewhere so that she can lay on top of me, and it’s my favorite thing in the world
2 of our cats have a particular chirp/meow combo they use with a head nod, it sounds very much like the way I say hello to them. Either I trained them or they trained me but either way we say hi to our cats & they say it back!
I agree! I was fascinated by the descriptions and explanations but would have liked audios of the sounds mentioned. I have also noticed that my cat purrs when she is very content-she likes being near me, being petted, or is very comfortable.
I get plenty of Meows from both of mine every time I get home from work. One comes to the door to see me, pretty much every single day. The other doesn't come right away but in a minute or two she will. They both know they'll get some attention including treats before I even change clothes. Earlier, the one who does not come to the door, she woke up from a long nap and had to let me know with Meows she was happy to see me even though she was napping only 5 feet from me!
Both of my boys currently are very demonstrative. The quieter of the 2, while still vocal, demonstrates his needs through behavior. The other never stops talking, ever! Although I am very protective of both kitties, I get super sensitive when the quieter kitty talks. I feel like I have heard over 200 different vocalizations. Thanks for the video!
Every cat (and dog) I've ever had has recognized themselves in the mirror! Not always right away if they've never seen a mirror before, but they learn. My current apartment has tons of huge mirrors along the walls and we even communicate through them, lol 😻
Hello, besides the fact that i find you very helpful with all the info you are throwing at us, thank you for that, i wanna also add that you are as cute as they come ☺ keep it up,. you fix my mood and my wife"s also. be good and God bless 🥰
Excellent! Very informative. Maybe next time you could play recordings of the different sounds? I recognized most but wasn't sure about some. Thank you!
One of my cat had 3 more vocalisations: when she was in heat, « rrrra-el », when I came back late, « oue-yon », at night, she had a lot of vocalisations for minutes, as if she was talking to?, she was black and she saying « hain » to show her presence in the dark and also when she agreed, « an-an » meaning maman! I miss her so much!!!
Some cats also purr when hurt & scared, as if to say to another cat, "please don't hurt me." Goes with the "I'm no threat to you" thing too. At least in my observations of my many kitties over lifetime (7 currently - rescues find me). Have seen it most after spayed or other surgery ~ they're kinda' helpless & in pain & are pleading with us, or another cat, that they're hurting & please don't hurt /touch them right now.
I watch a lot of these videos, but comment on few. This was well presented, but in the future maybe add sound clips of actual cats vocalizing? I understood and recognized all but one sound, but that was a tough one. Overall a great video! I'll have to check more from this channel.
I love learning stuff like this. My kitten just woke up from his afternoon nap, looked at me and said "brrrrrp!" He walked up, said "brrp" again and then jumped into my lap and started purring. Seems I have a happy boy on my hands. :) I agree that editing some vocalizations in would be helpful. I don't entirely understand all of the sounds you're describing.
I enjoyed the video!! I have a cat Bilbo that does a bbbrrrttt. He does it when he walks around, jumps, or gets up. You can make the sound by starting with a b then roll the rrrs and roll up to a high pitch t. He seems to always be happy when he makes this noise. Out of our 9 cats he's the only one that makes that sound. One of the others just makes little adorable meep sounds. We've heard her give 2 sad little meows when she really wants something. Her meeping also appears to be a happy sound.
My 19 year old cat likes to wake us up in the middle of the night with a loud meow that sounds like drowning. We’ve mostly noticed it since her sister (same litter) passed away last March. We’re wondering if it’s a mourning meow. It’s 8 months since her sister passed away. They were together for their whole lives, and now she’s an only cat. 😔
Yea my cat wakes me up EVERY morning at 4 am because he is hungry by the way my cat eats better that I do! I have to shut the door to block the noise or use him as an alarm clock.
Hey there. I’m a blind man who has a cat in the house and this video has helped me a lot. I’ve spent most my life with dogs and only have met the occasional cat. I’ve noticed that if the cat is approaching me she’ll make the second sound in this video I always spell it browwwwww. She makes this sound just before jumping up next to me or if I get out her brush. She also likes to lick me like a dog would. Does this mean she’s trying to clean me, or does it mean she loves me
Thank you! Very informative video. When my cat carries something, he meows in a loud and prolonged way. I imagined that it was stressed or an emotional vocalizing.
I got two kitties a month ago (they're about 7 months old now, one was a stray and one was rescued from a hoarding situation), and one of them only chirps or hisses. The other gives me the saddest little meow when I am bringing food to them. Like the bowl of food is in my hand as I am walking to the feeding mat. I promise, I do feed them well and they are healthy, but she acts like she hasn't eaten in days. The other barely eats. Oh, my children.
We had a calico that was very chatty. She had all sorts of happy chirps and trills. Her signature sound was I think you'd call it a murmur, but it went up in pitch at the end, like she was asking a question. That was how she always greeted us. She was a wonderful little cat. She died at about 5 from complications from FIV. We'd had her since she was a tiny kitten, almost a bottle baby. That's still one of the cats we miss the most.
Great info. After having cats since I was small I will say you get to understand the different sound variations for ur individual cat as time goes on. Their body language and/or behaviour can say a lot as well. Xx
Loved hearing this . Just wondered about the death growl which my cat gave me two years ago just before she passed over. I think she was making sure I would go ahead and let her go, which I did. I know humans sometimes make a sound before they pass and I am sure she was telling me not to weaken, it was her time. She had had s stroke.
Thank you so much for the wonderful share, friend! This is very valuable to know!!!!! I wish you the best, my friend. May you know continued success and happiness.
I have 5 cats not by choice but by cats adopted me. One cat cried which might have come under the noise for pain or calling but it was unique and distressing. I summarised it was a call to the previous humans. He wanted them but had lost them. He was upset alone and not happy. Of course I let him stay and after week never heard that sound again.
Not a sound, but - one of my cats makes "silent meows". His mouth opens for the duration of a meow but no sound comes out. He only ever does this while making eye contact with me and I get the definite impression that he's expressing affection. 😻
My almost 2 year old girl kitty uses the high trilling sound a lot , especially when she wants her supper . She rubs against me while trilling to get me to feed her. She is a talker too! If you talk to her she talks back, we carry on conversations all the time and I’m the only one she does that with, makes my husband jealous. She’s a “Torbie “ and I have been told they are big talkers! My senior boy kitty is very quiet and only meows if he wants something or sort of “yells” at me if I’m not paying attention and he really wants something.
I had to smile when you were talking about the yowl. I’ve been a cat mama to Siamese kitties much of my life; as I’m sure you know, they yowl as conversations :-)
My Maine Coon mix only squeaks when I come home, rarely I'll hear him squeak-chirp in the other room to himself 😂 but overall he doesn't really talk. The new kitten on the other hand will just talk to us all day & will sing when he knows it's breakfast time lol 💖
I’ve had cats that sound almost human baby-like when they are nauseous and just before they vomit. It is loud and unlike any other sounds they typically make. I’ve had 5 cats and 2 of them made this sound.
Ive been feeding a stray who occasionally hisses, but then quickly subsides and begins head butting my hand as I put down her food. Still unsettling when she does it, but I put my fears aside and feed her anyway. Slowly, slowly, she is becoming more comfortable with me.
Omg this answers my question nobody can answer! She never meows unless something is wrong but other peoples cat would be so vocal and meow so much! Like I was thinking something was wrong with my cat cause the only noise she ever makes is the murmur which is a mix of purr and meow and just purr. Good to know that she’s always happy! 😂 I would like to hear her vocalize more cause it’s so cute but every cat is different 🥲 I love mine so much
Just talk to your kitty 🐈 constantly. Leave space after a question for them to answer and look at them as you wait for their "reply"!! Be patient, this really works!! ❤🐾🐈🌹🐾😻💜💙💚🤍☮️🌿🕊️🍁🇨🇦🌟
We have a little guy who vocalizes in only what I can describe as a worried old woman. He does it when he is actively playing. Sometimes it gets sort of low and guttural as if he were scolding his toys. We call him Squeak . 🌙💜☮️
One of our cats does something similar 😂. He walks around making this rowlrowl sound,in a strange rambling tone. It's not pain or annoyance, or any reaction to the other cats - he will usually do it when he thinks he's alone. I would probably describe it as old worried man looking for his keys 🤣
Loved this video. I knew most of the sounds but nice to hear from a doctor. I know EXACTLY what my cat is saying and we have convos all the time. My cat is king of my House and I wouldn't have it any other way❤❤
Our rescue cat has a few meows... the "I think its food time" the "I'm glad youre here to play with me" and the "I want to go outside with the dogs" meow. The last is notably more pleading than the others.
Great and informative! I would love to see an updated video with actual cats making these sounds cut in between sections. I feel like I don't understand what some of these are still and it would be nice to hear what they sound like.
This video was very informative. I adopted a kitten back in October and he meowed a lot. He doesn't do it as much but he still meows obviously. Haha My kitten does the "greeting" meow all the time. Hahaha and the meow that you roll your tongue with. The one meow he does, I have no idea what it means. It sounds like, "eh!" but in kitty form. He also purrs a lot. He's such a happy kitty. I think the other sign he shows he's happy is that he rolls on his back a lot. Hahaha Like dogs do in the grass but he does it on the floor. lol My only complaint is that you didn't use audio for the cat meows. It would've been helpful. Other than that, this video helped a lot. I just wanna speak cat so I know what he's saying. lol
I have a really big black cat. I should have named him Bob, after silent Bob. He does not like being picked up and has the tiniest mew, you would think it was a kitten. Then there is the growl of disapproval which is for the trash truck, the mail person and construction noise. That's it. I've had a lot of cats but he is by far the quietest cat ever.
My Pippin Rose has been telling me things for 13 years. She has a sound for me, my son, and my Dad (she still doesn’t “talk” to my brother). She also uses “sign language “. When she is hungry, she will jump on my bed and do her “pretty girl “ pose. If not acknowledged, she will climb on my chest, use her paw to make me look at her, and then licks her lips. She has trained me to ask her what she is hungry for- nom-mom’s (wet food), treats, or something-something (dry food). When I say the one she wants, she nods and licks her lips. If I’m not paying attention and give her the wrong thing (or I tell her no), she gets close to me and then gives me “the tail end of the tabby “! She tells me when it’s time for meds, if my blood sugar is low, if my pain levels are high(all self-taught). She will paw on the door when she wants out, come to a special whistle, will move with a snap and a whistle, steals my pillow if I get up, and uses me for a body pillow and my cheek as her pillow. She is very face oriented- when we are having a ‘conversation’ she will put her paw on my mouth when it’s her turn to talk. She stares me in the eyes and her lips mimic talking, but she hasn’t figured out that I still don’t read lips! She snorts when she doesn’t get her way, hates having chilly ears and insists on being covered up (or steals the blanket off of me to make her Pippin cave, and she talks in her sleep. She understands that I am permanently crippled from an accident 11 years ago and waits for me to put on my prosthetic leg and she will accompany me on my short walks to the kitchen or bathroom. She will bring me my cell phone or go for help if she finds me in distress- again, self taught. Her understanding of words and communication is phenomenal and she also knows about 50 spelled out words. Her 3 siblings and the other 2 cats in the house are just cats, but in my 55 years of being an avid cat lover and owner, she is something special.
I've just come across this video in my feed, and it being two years old you may not respond, but I hope you do. My cat is incredibly happy and purrs nearly all of the time, she starts up as soon as I approach her. She also makes lots of trilling noises and one in particular that I call a merrrp. I'm really interested in what it means. Thanks heaps, I really enjoy your videos, they're really informative and you have such a joy in what you do.
I’d like you to talk about kitten fur vs adult fur. And when do kittens get their permanent teeth? And how long to kittens tend to keep growing? Thank you! And on todays, my cats are trillers not meowers, for the most part. But if they are hurt by someone or something, the shriek is loud and very sharp! I know to come running!
My 12 year old cat will sometimes at night make a sort of mournful cry that sounds like a baby crying. She'll be in another room and suddenly start doing it and it goes on for a minute and then she stops. She doesn't seem in pain. I can call out to her and she'll stop. It's the loudest noise she makes. Even her meow is a silent or very soft meow. This baby cry sound will echo in the apartment quite loudly. At first I thought she was looking for our other cat, but she just sits in the room and doesn't go searching. Our other cat doesn't do this, nor does she respond to the first cat. She only does this at night, usually after I go to bed. And she isn't shut out of the bedroom. She can come get on the bed any time she wants. I don't know what to make of it. She's been doing it several years (I adopted her from a shelter when she was 2.)
My daughter likes to say “Hello” when she’s annoyed trying to get something from me when I’m not paying attention…..We got a kitten who is now 9 months and on my days off work where I sleep in till 9 am instead of the normal 5-6 am I get up he will very loudly get in my bed in my face meowing “HELLO!” Until I get up and feed him his breakfast. It’s so cute that I can’t be annoyed by it …
I have 3 cats. 2 ginger and white boys and a seal point mitted Ragdoll. My 2 ginger boys are very talkative and drool when they are happy. My Ragdoll boy will be 1 soon. He is always purring and does soft meows. It's so interesting the way they all communicate 🙂🙂
My cat tends to make a yowling sound, usually at night, often when the lights go out or almost exclusively if we are not in the room with him. It is exceptionally loud. He is an elderly deaf cat and I think he has poor eyesight, he also appears to be a bit socially-inept. It appears to happen when he is looking for us. Usually, when he does this, we will go to the room he is in or pat him to show him we are there, if we are behind him or surprise him with a pat, this usually turns into a trill. I presume much of this is because he is sensory deprived. We adopted a little sister for him a month ago after his big sister died last year (although his big sister never took to him) and he no longer yowls as much, if at all, he just chirps / trills for her when he wants her attention and she will come running. There is a lot more trilling going on in this household at the moment. He loves his little sister
@@jc.1191 Thank you, thankfully, he no longer yowls as much. He now has a little sister and a brother who come when he calls and I think this has made him much happier. Now there are lots of happy chirps and trills happening in our house.
Before I let my cats outside at all, they had a certain set of sounds. Then, when I let them outside, they picked up "alley cat". It was a harsh and vulgar language. After a few days of not going outside, the would go back to gentile language. I have always been sceptical about cats not vocalizing to each other when meeting other cats because I saw this pattern repeated for years. When we moved from the city to the eastern shore of VA, I noticed that they started immitating more bird sounds. It is especially obvious when mockingbirds are vocal which is when the birds are training their young. I wish I could record it but I never know when it is going to happen. They are Maine Coons and once they started talking, they never stopped and the cognitive range is amazing. Below in a response I descibe that mine, too, lets me know when he needs to "go".
I am also skeptical to the idea that cats never vocalize to each other (I'm writing this as I'm listening to my British Shorthair making all sorts of noises because he has slight zoomies and is playing by himself lol). I had this cat who was completely silent until I got another cat that was very vocal and it was only then he realized he could also be vocal. Also, as I wrote, they often seem to make a lot of noise all by themselves at no particular person or thing and you got to wonder what this communication is meant to serve since it just seems to be them talking because they can. They obviously do it because they know someone is around to hear them but it doesn't seem to be directed at anyone in particular outside of them potentially communicating some kind of general "this is what I'm doing/thinking/feeling right now".
My cat trills at me. Never meows. I got him at a shelter. He looks like a little panther and follows me, is tremendously affectionate and wants to be near me touching me most of the time. He is adorable. Loves being brushed. He does absolutely nothing wrong. I cannot imagine why he was dropped off at the shelter. He's 3 years old. Such a good boy. I named him Baby Boy. Good boy. And he is.❤
Very familiar with the growl, hiss and spit from our former stray who is very skittish and seems to have been really mistreated. We give her a lot of space and give her love on her terms and soak up the purrs at that time. Who knows what all she’s been through.
My kitten makes a sound when she runs upstairs past me, I think you covered earlier but not positive, sounds kind of like she’s exhaling…I apologize if I didn’t explain clearly enough but I’ve always been curious….absolutely love your videos, I have had cats (and spoiled them all) all my life but never knew how much has been learned
I have two male 8 month old male brother cats, one growls at his brother if he tries to take his food or toy he’s playing with. Neither of them are super vocal, easy to figure out their meows. I think they are sleeping somewhere in the house and I’ll go to do something without them messing about, but I’ll turn around and there they’ll be, like the twins from The Shining. 😂
On cats recognising themselves in a mirror, some very clearly do. There is a great video of a cat staring at herself and after several moments she reaches up to her ears and feels them while looking in the mirror. You could see she was putting it all together.
My kitty calls heh-woh-oh, heh-woh-oh, when he is "looking" for me. When he "finds" me he says, oh! Brr, br bra brrrah. He also sighs and groans to express relaxing or displeasure. For example, on our first snow he pulled back the curtain and looked out and said "OHhhh." Very sad. He likes to go outside. I always know what he wants.
One of my cats, Josie - one of two sisters - and will sit at our glass door, looking outside - and chirp and chatter. Once Josie get locked onto something, I can get her to really get vocal about it by chattering at her. We'll take turns chattering, while she locks on something outside. But, it's now taken to being in the house, too. Josie has anxieties and very skittish - even with us. My daughter and Josie have a strong bond and me and Josie have a strong bond, too, but not quite as strong as the bond with she has with my daughter. When Josie is in my daughters bedroom - either on her bed or in her lap - and I'll walk by. We'll start chattering at each other. She'll see me and chatter and I'll chatter back. And then she always jumps down and comes and rubs around my legs. I was surprised to find all the advice is about cats chirping and chattering as a sign of fixating on their pray. I mean, she does do that 100%, too. But when she and I are chattering and chirping at each other, nothing about it feels aggressive or hostile. It's like a special conversation between us. We often joke and say she doesn't like "being caught" with her tiny hooman by her big hooman. Like she's afraid one of us will get jealous. Or that she has to reassure me that she loves me, too - because she always jumps down and comes and rubs against my legs.
When my cat realizes I'm going to play with her, feed her or when I talk to her with excitement after being at work she now does this "reh" that is sort of like "thanks". It took her about 8 years to figure it out. Only happens like once each day.
I have a kitten that "murmurs" a lot. She does it when she sees me or jumps on/off furniture. She mournfully meows when I've shut the door on her so she can't come in to my office. I nicknamed her "Chirpy" because she's always talking.
What is your cat's favorite thing to say to you? Tell us about their signature noises!
My cat looking for his brother cat. Long, panicked, quiet guttural howl. Everyone one comes and asks what's wrong pussy cat Bennie!
My two littermate brothers, tabbies have completely different voices. Flearoy has a soft little voice, he calls to me to scratch him while he eats or to refresh his kibble. He never gets loud. Lynyrd must have meezer blood because he hits just about every vocalization possible except for chatter. AND...he never stops lol
I recently took on three siblings from a neighbor, a ginger Tom and his two tortie sisters.
Nice video! It would be easier to follow if there were some audio fragments.
The trilling! And meows when i touch them or greet them by the nose and pet them on the head or cheek at the syart 🐈 😻 🐈⬛ 🐱 🐈 😻
Very informative, although this would be a LOT better if you included some audio clips of the actual sounds
i enjoyed her impressions!
I thought that too
I agree, cat clips of sounds would have been good
The video means nothing without the sounds tbh. I need actual examples
Dr. W. does a great job mimicking cats.
One of my 2 cats has me trained, she calls me when she has used the cat box. I once heard her call when she used the box and I cleaned it right away, that’s all it took for her to decide that I’m expected to clean her box as soon as she calls me. I’m well trained!
🤣
Mine too. He tells me when he wants to deficate or urinate first. He prefes to go outside and it saves me the task of cleaning the box. If I ignore it, then I clean the box. It is a distinctive sound if he wanmts to deficate. It can't be mistkaken for anything else.
Mine does this too. She chirps for a wee and meows loudly for a poop!
@@louisehorsfall9400 Precisely!
Now he can wait for me to stop working or for my partner to come home and demand that we walk him to his litterbox and then when he's done he runs to the bed or the kitchen :-)
And if he has to go but no one joins him he always comes back meowing very low and grumpy like he's talking to him self muttering about the bad service.😂
He also calls for you when he's hiding under blankets and things like playing hide and seek... he goes hiding and then he wants me to find him.
Mine does that if I accidentally wake her up 🥺
Im convinced it's them saying sup. They respond to me doing it back.
I know that sound. She does it when I get her brush
For what it is worth I had an abscessed tooth and it caused me to be very sick. I was flat out on the couch and my cat sat on my stomach and purred. I am convinced they see purring as a healing thing. He was trying to help.
My cat likes to go "Brrreow, brrrreow" when he sees me when I first wake up and head downstairs as he tries to trip me the whole way lol
I have a rescue feral colony. My fur kids are humane society "working" cats, fixed and vaccinated but not considered adoptable
It was so interesting that they were so silent.
@@sydneykendall7125 awesome!
I have a chatty deaf cat so translating his strange noises to these is fun haha! No cute "meows" here 🤣 lots of "MOW!" And "MERRRR!" And his trilling sounds more like he's just gargling spit at you 🤣🤣🤣
Awww 😻
Take care.
My siamese mix yowls all the way to the vet 😿
I get my cats to mimic me sometimes. It’s super cool when it happens.
Really needed sounds from cats as examples for this info ❗️🤷♀️
I have 2 Maine Coons and they have a language all their own, something I haven't heard before in a cat. Not a meow or a hiss, they have trills or tribble sounds that are as long as some sentences. Very, very talkative they are, usually when they walk into the room, kinda announce their presence, they might interact if they are so inclined to jump up on my lap 😹
How interesting!
We have a Maine Coon who trills a lot. He sounds so cute when he does it.
Aww man thats cute and cool! The majestic maine cooon! Or is it the calico.. whichever one is the big king like 😃
And yeah its weird and almost indistinguishable between the yowls and howls.
I thought you’d mention the trill when you take them by surprise it’s like ‘hey you’re here? What’s up’ my favorite 🥺
my cat always thril eventho he isn't suprise
I've had many cats in my lifetime. My present tuxedo darling is so intelligent, she is the only cat that realized she was looking at herself in the mirror ! 💜💕🐱💙
Love your energy and contributions here!! I have 2 VERY talkative cats with a hundred variations in their basic meows. They really tell you how it is, lol.
Are they Siamese by any chance? 😆😆
@@katiekate51 You'd think, lol. They're just plain old American shorthair tabbies, but as talkative as you've never seen.
When Cosmo cat sits in front of the window chattering at the birds it sounds like "get off my lawn!"
my cat trills as a greeting, even when i’ve only been in other room for a few minutes, and only at me. she also meows when she wants me to stop moving around so much and sit down somewhere so that she can lay on top of me, and it’s my favorite thing in the world
2 of our cats have a particular chirp/meow combo they use with a head nod, it sounds very much like the way I say hello to them. Either I trained them or they trained me but either way we say hi to our cats & they say it back!
The chirping and the squeaking then the trilling. It's adorable.
Sometimes my cat Kaunis yawns while meowing.. it´s the cutest thing!! she´s so vocal
One of mine yips and trills while purring. Makes her sound like a tribble.
Hello, besides the fact that i find you very helpful with all the info you are throwing at us, thank you for that, i wanna also add that you are as cute as they come ☺
keep it up,. you fix my mood and my wife"s also. be good and God bless 🥰
I just love these videos- so informative.
I love learning stuff like this. My kitten just woke up from his afternoon nap, looked at me and said "brrrrrp!" He walked up, said "brrp" again and then jumped into my lap and started purring. Seems I have a happy boy on my hands. :)
I agree that editing some vocalizations in would be helpful.
Thank you Dr. Wooten for your videos. We have a new kitten and my wife and I have watched many of your videos and are learning a lot from you!
Could it be a bit of kitty dementia and her calling for her sister to join her?
Cats are just the best. I had a goofy perma smile this entire video due to these complicated hilarious beings. Great video
Excellent descriptions. Hard work too! Thankyou
love your content and your organized approach! you make it so easy!
Sami talks nonstop. Mostly trills when I speak to him, meows when hungry and then calls for us when we aren't in the same room.
Great video! Thank you for posting. If you could make a part 2 to this video, that includes the sounds it would be super helpful.
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Awh I love this! So interesting!
I'm getting a cat (kitty) for the first time so this is very helpful. "Nobody ever said cat sex was fun" lol, I want her as my vet!
Thank you so much for the wonderful share, friend! This is very valuable to know!!!!! I wish you the best, my friend. May you know continued success and happiness.
Excellent subject, yet playing a real sampling of each sound would be MUCH more helpful for cat owners to learn the differences.
Good point. I will see if we can at least link to sound samples in the description.
@@AllAboutCatsYT Thanks so much.💕
I disagree. The doctor impersonating cat sounds much more informative and entertaining, and just perrrrfect.
My baby Simpson did the same. I miss her so
@@trinap.8904 Oh I am sorry! It's hard when they leave us. 🙁
Your videos are so good.
I didnt come here to listen to her interpretation of cat sounds. I came to listen to cats.
🤣 So weird. He sounds like a lot of personality.
@@freyamariano106ha ha ha!!! Do you keep a radio on when you are not home so your cat doesn't get lonely?
This is SO interesting! Thanks for sharing this!
I feel like I don't understand what some of these are still and it would be nice to hear what they sound like.
when i first witnessed a chatter it scared a hack out of me😂
loved this...i love the sounds they make
❤Thanks for watching!
Great video Dr Wooten, thanks! One of my cats makes sounds like a tribble from Star Trek….very sweet❤️
Your Pippin Rose is one very special kitty, indeed!!!! ❤️🌹🌟🐾🐈🐾😻🌿🕊️💜💙💚🤍🍁🇨🇦☮️💗🙏❤️
Great requests. Thank you, Jan.
My cat chirp meows when she brings me a "gift " like a pen or hair elastic. 😅
Maybe he needs a nightlight or an actual light. Sounds scared. Might help everyone sleep better. Could be confusion or something.
@@jc.1191 Thank you, thankfully, he no longer yowls as much. He now has a little sister and a brother who come when he calls and I think this has made him much happier. Now there are lots of happy chirps and trills happening in our house.
@@ErinFromSydney Good to hear things improved.
Wow, these are fascinating observations! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much.
The PURRRRRRR!!!! Love it .
My cat does lots of silent meows. She goes through all the motions but nothing or a really soft breathy meow comes out.
~ I love the silent meow! Usually when walking towards me. ᓚᘏᗢ
I love silent meows too! I thought they were unique to my kitty. They're so adorable!
A) meowr: where are you? (I'm in the next room, stupid)
B) hiss at vacuuming
my cat talks to me all the time and I can almost tell what she wants from me
I have two male 8 month old male brother cats, one growls at his brother if he tries to take his food or toy he’s playing with. Neither of them are super vocal, easy to figure out their meows. I think they are sleeping somewhere in the house and I’ll go to do something without them messing about, but I’ll turn around and there they’ll be, like the twins from The Shining. 😂
LmAo! I just adopted two sisters 6?months and they are usually always together too
Lol! 🙂
Thank you very much for this very helpful video. Your cat language skill is very good. 👍👍👍😂
Wow. You are wonderful!
Thank you! 😊
My cat makes that exact same sound when entering a room that I am already in. It sounds like "hello" but with a lisp.
