"Are they building a baby?" is the line that made me fall in love with Shut Up and Sit Down back when they were on PATV.
This is by far one of my favorite Reviews by SU&SD, it even made me rush out and get Kemet... Truly this review is just Clever, it's clever... it's really... clever.

4:05 the most ironic bit is that if the table is filled with seasoned kemet players, the game will be just as slow as any other seasoned war game.
Since you only get points for winning as the attacker, being the first to go out and get to a temple is highly discouraged. So the better everyone gets, the more likely everyone is to sit and wait and upgrade and upgrade and maybe next round.

Also, on Cyclades vs Kemet, as you say both are great - but I personally find Cylcades auction mechanic to be more intimate. You are directly tussling with someone else's mind in real time, rather than taking it in turns to pick things. But this is picky, both are fun. Cyclades is easier to teach.
itd be cool if they combined both games into 1 somehow but it would probably be a long game

The mummies thing was a Twain joke. But...Brits used mummies in oil paints. Grind them up and make mummy brown! Not kidding!

I'm a big fan of Scythe and I knew that it borrowed elements from tons of other games--seems like Scythe is really Agrarian Steampunk Kemet (from single turn activation, quick transportation around the board, combat similiarities).

I love Kemet. The pace of it is incredible.
Everyone with a decent pair of speakers paused this video at least once to hear if the sirens were in the video or outside their own residence.
Unfortunately crusade is a battle specific power and initiative is a day time power, which means units killed via initiative do not give income, only units killed during battle somehow counts for crusade.

I tried this game with some of my friends for free at my game shop and after we got an understanding of the game, it was an explosive game where victory points kept swinging all over but at the end it was still anyone's game. We went home talking about it all night and basically all week so I went and bought it. Not a real strategy heavy game; it's a more bombastic party night game
Mummies were also ground up and used as pigment for paint in Britain :D
The linen wrappings were also unwound and used for bandages during wartime, and sometimes aristocrats would buy mummies, have them shipped home, and then unwrap them as a kind of party game to see what kinds of amulets and such came out.
As far as the animal mummies go, I don't mind so much. Egyptian temples killed and mummified so many animals to act as divine messengers that some species were almost completely wiped out in the country. More than 4 million ibis were found mummified at a single burial location, for example!
While we're on the original subject though, let's not forget about the Elgin Marbles and the Benin Bronzes...
Having played GoT I was able to grasp the concepts and win on my first game despite my friend having played before. Got lucky even though he had scorpion of doom, I had the upgrade for a larger than normal army, extra movement (I think) and cottoned on to the VP = win battles. I just avoided his doom stack and went on an unstoppable Daisy chain against small stacks 😃 was very fun. Only played it the once though.
Will you review updated version of Kemet?

So it's the combat from the Game of Thrones Board Game with a bigger focus on aggression rather than playing the politico, and each 'faction' starts as a blank slate that can be tailored any way you want compared to each Great House in GoT being locked into a certain playstyle based off the starting location and notable persons decks?

I like Shut Up and Sit Down, but the mispronunciation of Cyclades makes me cringe literally every time.
It might have been correct at the time - I've heard that the official pronunciation was changed multiple times.(What is the correct pronunciation, by the way?)

i'm not sure I would even call cyclades a war game. it's really more of an auction game than anything else. THe potential for glorious violence is just adds looming anxiety.

This has probably been answered somewhere else before, so sorry, but I was just wondering if you intended to do a Gloomhaven review before the reprint Kickstarter ends, like you did for Kingdom Death?
They've said elsewhere that they weren't able to squeeze it into the kickstarter timeframe, but when it gets an eventual retail release they would like to review it then.

@@Klosterliv doesn't sound economically viable really, the rarity and novelty alone would made them more valuable to collectors than their value as fuel, unless they were in a pinch it does sound weird.

I wasn't too frustrated with Quinn's alternating pronunciation of "Cyclades" until he did it 10 seconds apart at 12:43. When you're at the point that you can't make up your mind from one sentence to the next, you really need to cut the shit and commit.
