    I had the Tesla roof installed over 3 years ago , the best part was the $50k cost on a 3000 sq ft house (Tesla has significantly raised prices) and the two power walls it came with. The downside is the amount of energy it produces but by far the biggest downside is that you really cannot get up on the roof because of the glass surface, it is very slippery, don’t even think about getting on the roof if there is any moisture. If you are painting the house or doing any maintenance, you really need a harness, a pair of Vans skateboarder shoes with the sticky soles are a good idea also.

    What is the payback time for your house area scenario

    • @GoodFaithEnergy
      @GoodFaithEnergy  11 дней назад +2

      Can’t put a number on peace of mind and convenience.. no one buys a generator asking when it pays for itself..
      But if you look at strictly the solar roof cost without batteries and SPAN.. the payback period is ~17 years if you consider a 3% escalation in electricity prices annually.. and the payback drops ~2 years every time I avoid having to pay a deductible because of a totaled asphalt shingle roof from a hail storm.. the average lifespan of a roof in north Texas is 7-10 years, so it may have the potential to be closer to 13 years.. I guess only time will tell, I won’t be crunching the numbers though, I’ll be enjoying the peace of mind from not having to worry about rising electricity rates and power outages.

    A great job with the details, including pricing. Bold move, very helpful for shoppers. As a Tesla Solar Roof customer in Connecticut with very high electric rates, it was interesting to compare and contrast my install with yours.

  • @michaellatta
    @michaellatta Месяц назад +2

    We just had to replace an asphalt roof under solar panned. The off-on charges were more than the roof replacement. Solar roof can replace individual tiles when needed.

    Is it possible to say keep the existing shingles on the north side of the house and only install Tesla tiles (both powered and not) on the south side? Or is that just not possible from a leaks perspective? Just looking at ways to save on the initial outlay. Thanks!

    • @GoodFaithEnergy
      @GoodFaithEnergy  4 месяца назад +2

      Great question! While it might be tempting to only install Tesla Solar Roof tiles on one side to save costs, we typically install the Solar Roof as a complete system across the entire roof to ensure proper waterproofing and durability. Mixing different roofing materials, like keeping shingles on one side, could increase the risk of leaks and complicate warranties. It's best to go with a full installation for long-term reliability. Hope that helps! Also, check this video out; it might help answer your question more: ruclips.net/video/QIl4ckZExq4/видео.htmlsi=aoeEEuUV9bYWo1X1

      @@GoodFaithEnergy thanks. Agree but man, wouldn’t it be great to get under 100k? Seems like they could find a way to only put it in places where it was needed - for example on one wing of a second story that shares no segments with another, shingled part of the roof.

    When getting a solar roof from tesla do they give you at least 2 or 3 different 3rd party providers like yourself to get quotes from or do they just assign you someone? Is there a way to "shop around" whats the best way to approach this.
    Btw thanks for the super educational content

    • @GoodFaithEnergy
      @GoodFaithEnergy  3 месяца назад +2

      You’re very welcome.
      Tesla has a certified installer portal where you can punch in your address and find multiple companies (depending on where you live) that can assist you with getting multiple quotes.
      Hopefully that helps!

    Tesla REALLY needs to monitor these “authorized installer” companies.
    Just received an estimate in FL for 2,400 sq ft 15 kW system - $158,000…. WITHOUT any Powerwalls
    To quote Elon: “GFY!”
    Tesla needs to stop working with these unethical roofing companies if they want their product adopted.

    • @GoodFaithEnergy
      @GoodFaithEnergy  2 месяца назад

      Solar roof is a premium product. Not for everyone, and the margins aren’t as good as other roofing materials. Tesla is no longer installing solar roofs because of the install challenges they pose. Sorry you think we’re all unethical, but that’s simply untrue, and many of us are busting our tails to deploy this product with very little financial gain.
      With that said, the price you received for your solar roof does seem about 10-15% high, but it’s impossible to know without knowing your roofs complexity and existing materials.
