  • On the morning of September 27, 2024 we captured portions of the morning rush at Elmhurst. For the first time, we got to see EMD F40PH-3 147 which has a unique wrap promoting the blue signs found on the grade crossing signals.
The blue signs are referred to as Emergency Notification Systems (ENS). They give contact info of the railroad that owns the tracks at a particular crossing. A crossing ID number is also listed. If the crossing signals are malfunctioning, a vehicle is stuck on the tracks, or some other kind of emergency exists, the public can call the number listed on the sign, give the crossing ID, and the railroad can take appropriate action.
“See Tracks? Think Train” week was September 23-29, 2024. Formerly called National Rail Safety Week. While this week brought an awareness and helps to educate the public, when it comes to rail safety it is 24/7/365.
