Actually the very last F40 run was with 909 leading and ran shortly after the clock and calendar switched to 9/21. You can see it on the Santa Clara railcam at 1:32 AM. Also, 908 later came back south and was seen at Santa Clara at 12:22 AM.
Actually the F40 Caltrains didn’t go out they will still run from San Jose to gilroy but the EMU’s will run from San Jose to San Francisco I am lucky to live in Santa Clara county because the F40’s will still run from there to gilroy only
My wife rode one last weekend. Said it didn't feel like a real train. More like a fast version of light rail. I've been commuting on Caltrain 5 days a week for the last 5-6 years. Been riding these new ones here and there for the last month. Have to agree with her.
On the one hand, getting these EMUs is awesome!
On the other hand, saying goodbye to F40PHs is a very saddening prospect.

atleast it is 922, sad to see the F40 retire, my childhood was railfanning it.
Caltrain had better keep and maintain those F 40 s as a back up plan. California s power grid is on Life Support.
