Knocking a patient out for a procedure carries quite a bit of risk which is why doctors try to have patients awake whenever possible. I'm a big baby w pain tho, so I wish it was risk free, haha
BecauseImGabbi lol I would take that risk 100% I tried getting an IUD today and couldn’t take the pain of the uterine sounding and didn’t even get the iud. I would recommend to take a Xanax and a Vicodin
It’s the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt. The dr said I’d just feel some mild to moderate cramping....I passed out after and cried for hours after that! I was not prepared to feel somthing like a fire poker stabbing me.
If you are a scared person reading the comments, there is no way to know how it will feel until you do it. After reading all the horror stories, I was expecting terrible terrible pain, but it wasn' that bad for me. Idk if this is comforting or just more scary, but everyone is different. You might experience pain, you might not, the only way to find out is to have it done. If you are very worried, try to find a provider who will give you a local aenesthetic, and take ibuprophen beforehand.
Reading from people how it was the most painful thing ever terrified me, I almost called out because of fear. I decided to still go and it was not as bad as I thought it would be, of course, everyone is different but it was a small pain and discomfort but what hurt more for me was the cramps right after.
Damn forreal 😂😂😂 I just came back from the doctor whosuggested it since I have pcos and nooope, not gonna do it 😅 I’m gonna keep my stupid irregularcycles lol
Marina Mancilla Traverso I got my IUD a week ago, It didn’t hurt at all, don’t not get and IUD because some people have bad experiences and are dramatic, it’s just really uncomfortable and crampy
Okay this video made me super chill about it beforehand, but let me tell you, it was the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life, and I'm not exaggerating. I don't know if these people got pain killers or what but I just got ibuprofen and wish I could've been knocked out. Will definitely be if I ever decide to do this again in 5 years.
I can relate more to the commenters than the people in the video, it hurt so bad I wanted to cry, it wasn't a "slight cramp" or "pinch" it was excruciating PAIN. Would I do it again in 3 years? ....Yup
What annoys me about this is they don't explain what was included in their procedure, some people are given pain killers, or a cervical block to relieve pain at the site, and others are given nothing, plus everyone's body is different
I didn't take any pain killers before hand, I was not on my period and I had like 10 seconds of sharp pain but nothing I can't put up with. I don't say this to invalidate your experience, but rather to say that people have different experiences.
Hi ladies, I just had my 4th Mirena removed & refitted... my tip for you all is this: take a strong pain relief at least 40 minutes before the procedure. Next when the process starts - breathe deeply, think meditation / yoga - go to a quiet place in your head. Trust your body - remember deep breathing can get you through childbirth. As the Mirena procedure is working in the same senitive areas, breathing deeply will really help relax your insides. Good luck ladies & be gentle on yourselfves when its over 😚
My wonderful obgyn told me to cough as hard as I could as she inserted it, and it was the best thing ever, I couldn't feel the sting for the first seconds or so, giving her time to get it in place and do some of the painful stuff, and in hindsight I really wish I'd kept doing that for a while longer. The worst part imo is having the legs spread apart when the cramps and pressure starts, I just wanted to roll over on my side and walk around, and I wasn't allowed to get up as she thought I was gonna pass out x)
I’m scared because I don’t want a IUD, I never did but with my Endometriomas it’s this or surgery and my doc said they may not even do surgery till I try this and honestly, I’m more comfortable with surgery, I hate being touched, I’m 17 and I haven’t had a exam and I feel like the two options suck and I’m just so upset, I’m not even sexually active so if this IUD doesn’t take away my pain then it’s useless and I have to get it taken out, ALSO! If I get it, I have to wait like a year of pain or anything to see if it works before doing surgery if needed
Suzanna Russell girl i feel this. i use to end up in the ER all the time with my cramps and they haven’t found anything but i’m CONVINCED its endo. the doctor in the ER said to try mirena because it would stop my period and is more effective for women with endo or bad period cramps. I had been on the pill for about a year and a half and it was useless. my mom was very against it at first but once i turned 18 there was no way i was going to continue putting up with the pain so i got an IUD last month in oct. the insertion for me was so horrid i threw up. over a month having it now and i’m doing okay. i get random cramping but it’s nothing an advil can’t fix. i don’t bleed anymore and don’t have a period. i’m 19 and so far this is the most effective thing i’ve tried! definitely give it a shot and if you’re scared, speak up! that’s my biggest regret cause i endured so much pain that could have been lessened. if it’s not for you, get it taken out but definitely give this a shot before surgery!
Nae Ateny the doctor said for me she could give me a relaxer it starts with a V I forgot and she can give me a shot ( in my cervix or arm?😂) Idk exactly but it will numb things apparently but I’m just more upset that my body needs it but I don’t WANT it, but if I don’t get it I will stop moving forward with my endo so I have no choice but to give it a try, thank you for telling me your experience ❤️💕
I just ATTEMPED to have this done today. It was perhaps the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I have no idea why we arent numbed for this????
It hurts like a bitch for like... 10-15 seconds, then it's like uncomfortable menstural cramps to early miscarriage levels of pains for the first days, then the cramps should start to wear of. I was back to normal on day three. If they increase something went wrong
@thesavagekitty what is that supposed to mean? I just wanted to say that they might not be lying. We all experience things differently. I've heard people saying that it hurt and people saying that it was OK.
When they say it’s not painful and u just feel cramps THEY ARE LIIIIIEEEEINGGGGG ITS PAINFULLLL I was cramping, sweating, and crying. They gave me meds for a WEEK to tolerate the pain, it’s one of those experiences you wish to forget. Do not believe it when they tell you it’s not as painful.
I just got mine done today and I was sooo freaked out from all the horror stories. Pap smears have never phased me, so this wasn't bad at all. I talked through the whole thing and it felt like a dull pinch and that was it. I drove home fine, didn't feel dizzy. The pain was maybe 3 out of 10 for me. I am now at home dealing with the cramps with some pamprin and a heating pad and I am fine. My physician was knowledgeable and answered all my questions and I felt fine. If you have a low pain tolerance or are a virgin who has ever only experienced light cramping, I can see how it could hurt more. But I want to put this out here because I was the girl who only saw and heardthe horror stories. You will be fine.
Update: day 2 and I have zero pain. All I took yesterday was 2 doses of extra strength pamprin. And today, no meds. And anyone that is curious I got the Mirena despite my uterus only being 4cm. I also took a drug 2 hours before that would soften and dilate my cervix a bit. Ask your doctor about this and if they have no idea run very very far away.
I went in two days ago and I got very nervous beforehand and let me tell you, WORST PAIN EVER. My doctor said “small pinch” and my whole body jerked upwards and I screamed. Pinching the cervix was the worst part. It honestly felt like childbirth. I wanted to cry and I passed out after that.
That was me 3 weeks ago. I have cramping everyday. Not horrid cramps but they do get pretty bad and it comes out of no where, and then they’ll disappear. It’s so confusing makes me feel like I’m freaking pregnant
I have low pain tolerance and I’m squeamish and it didn’t hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would. I took 600mg one hour before and went on day 4 of my period so my cervix was a bit softer than usual. The procedure took less than 3 mins but all I felt was a few sharp cramps and it was done. I feel like it hurt more when I got my belly button pierced lol. Definitely not the worst pain of my life. I was more bothered the following day or so by cramps because they are achey, but just feels like a heavy period. Also, just think about screaming babies while you’re getting it inserted and that will help too 😂
Fuck yes, it hurts like hell. Almost passed out. Bled like crazy. My friend AND my doctor lied about how painful it was. I’m still mad about it Also for context I have been through excruciating pain. And I can tell you with confidence that this hurts BAD. Everyone is different, but they should warn patients that it could be extremely painful for them.
I got a IUD. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! It hurts and I had severe cramping! However, I did not receive medication prior to the procedure. I highly recommend taking pain medication
I got mine today (paragard) and when I tell you, it was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. Afterwards I almost fainted and had to lay down before leaving the hospital. Right now I feel a little better but the cramps are insane!!!!😕
chile mole pozole My cervix ended up not being dilated enough (which is normal for people who haven’t had kids) so I’m going in for a round 2 next month once I get the medication that will help dilate my cervix. The beginning of the procedure leading up to it not going in wasn’t bad, I was just upset it didn’t go in😂
It's nice to see another masc presenting person get an IUD. I got mine 10 days ago under anaesthetic while I was having a cyst and endometriosis removed. Thankfully I didnt feel the initial pain and the cramps were nothing compared to the pain i felt elsewhere after the surgery. If you're going in for a ob/gyn surgery and you're considering getting an IUD talk to your surgeon and theyll have no problem putting it in while you're under.
Everyone: don’t! Read! The comments!! I watched this video before I got my IUD and absolutely freaked out. I thought getting my IUD would be the worst pain of my life after reading these comments, and while I’m sure everyone’s story is accurate to them, they are outlier stories! I went into the doctors office SCARED AF and the pain turned out to be incredibly minimal and completely manageable. Yes- it’s possible it could be painful but chances are you can easily handle it!! Don’t make the same mistake I did by psyching yourself out!!!!
I am just getting home from failed insertion. It hurt like hell. I was in tears. The pressure was unbearable and she tried 3x and I was begging her to stop. It literally felt like someone was ripping my uterus out of my body. I have had 2 back surgeries, a tummy tuck to remove 17lbs of excess skin from weight loss and a breast reduction so to say my pain tolerance is above average would be adequate. I would have all 3 of those surgeries done at the same time before I’ll ever think of attempting an IUD again. To say that there is cervical resistance is an understatement. I did 2 pills the night before to ripen my cervix and 600mg of ibuprofen and a Valium 40 min prior and it was still torture. No thanks.
I was in terrible pain for a full two weeks after I got my IUD, but don't let that put you off from getting one. I have the Kyleena IUD and it's probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I have hardly any symptoms after only two months and my period has already gone away.
How long did the cramping last? Mine comes and goes every single day. The cramping can be light or it’s very strong. It’s not horrid but when it comes out of nowhere it truly does hurt even on my sides. It’s so fuckin weird man 😭 i hate it i regret it and It’s only been 3 weeks
@@chulaloveshaters hey, its been 11 months so can I ask you if it has gotten any better? And if so, how long did it take for the cramps to go away? I got my iud inserted about 3 weeks ago too and I still have cramps everyday, also my lower back hurts. My gyn checked on it and the placement of the iud is still fine so that cant be the reason.
i tapped out after they inserted the tool to measure my cervix and then when she was like "im gonna have to dilate it more" I said nope NOPE NOPE please dont i want to stop. I cant even imagine the pain I would have to go through with the stretching. IM trying again but IMA DO IT with my new friend Mary Jane for that optimal support.
IDK about everyone else, but the procedure itself was not bad at all for me. The cramps that came a few minutes after were excruciating. Approx time for sounding: 10 sec. Approx time for insertion: 5 sec. Take a pain killer BEFOREHAND to avoid major pain after and take DEEP BREATHS during the procedure!
I would rate the pain a 7/10. It does hurt a lot but the deep cramping only lasts about 10 seconds. It was enough pain to make me grimace, but not scream or cry. It's a good idea to take the rest of the day off to relax because more moderate cramping continues throughout the day. Mirena has made my extremely heavy periods stop so it is definitely worth it.
For girls who have a tilted back uterus like me please be advised that it would be extremely painful not just 15 seconds it is like 15 minutes and the severe cramp last for the rest of the day and on and off medium level pain in the following days.
My experience was nothing like any of the comments I’m reading! I expected severe pain. I watched reaction videos, read experiences, and had been told by friends it was the worst pain they’d ever felt. I didn’t do anything to prepare. No ibuprofen. Wasn’t given a cervical block. Nothing like that. So I was sure it would be excruciating. My insertion was painless. I felt a little pressure. But that was it, not even any real cramping. So reading all of the experiences of others started making feel concerned that something was wrong with me because I felt zero pain.
I went through the horrible pain of getting the IUD which I didn’t know would hurt. And I was in bad pain for a week. And guess what. Two weeks after insertion I went pee and wiped and the iud was on the toilet paper. Fell out on its own. After just two weeks of having it. I was pissed!!!
I've had kidney stones before, so large that I could not pass them and the pain was so bad that I kept throwing up. I tried to tough it through the procedure, I'm usually good with pain but man that SUCKED. I told my mom it was a close second to my kidney stones and thankfully I still had painkillers left over to help me through it. I was told just to use some ibuprofen and that was it. I have no freakin clue how you guys do it with just ibuprofen. I couldn't walk. It was worth it though! I'm 25 and mine will last 5 years so I'll be about 30 by the time it needs to be removed. Perfect age to decide at that point if I want to have kids. If you're still on your parents insurance (like me) and it's about to run out by age 26, I'd do it. It protects you till you're old enough and stable enough in life, where you are in a place to really decide what you want to do for yourself 😊
It hurt like hell! I started crying because it hurt so bad. Midway I even said I change my mind and two seconds later the doc said she was done. I really wish I would of known to take something for the pain before I got to the doctors office. Altogether it took about 3 mins .. most painful 3 mins of my life. If giving birth is worse then this level of pain then I need a lifetime supply of IUD's cause this was enough to make me say fu...k having kids..
GIRL YOU AND ME BOTH except my doctor was scared i guess and very still slow movements, took her 30 seconds to get that thing out after I said I dont want it anymore. Called my boyfriend and made a speech about how he doesn't appreciate what I go through just so he can nut in me (and of course its for my health but I was crying form the pain at that time) and went on about how were only having ONE kid if I even feel like it and how he has to get in the machine to experience how child birth is after, for the same amount of time I was in labor-birth.
I'm on my 2nd iud now. I thought maybe it wouldn't be as bad as the first time so I didn't even bother bringing anything to ease the pain like I wish I would of done the first time but nope I was wrong. The pain was actually worse, because the Dr had to pull it out then stick a new one in. I kept thinking omg in 5 more years I gotta come back and do this all over again!
@@HairandMakeup202 ... what are you talking about? He's a male but his assigned gender was female which is why he still has a uterus to insert the IUD in. Educate yourself before making ignorant assumptions. What does being liberal have to do with anything about this video?? like lmfao is you dumb or is you dumb
Hi future person getting an iud, I got mine two hour ago. It hurted like hell. I wasnt prepared for so much pain. Unfortunatly i had no chance i had to have thing done to me 3 times, so three times of hard pain. Put one in wasnt well placed moved it , then had to take it out amd then another one , the pain lasted a long time for me. Its was constant pain and pinching because she needed a clamp to grab the cervix out. Its sad that nobody who got interviewed had a painfull testimony, good for them! But yeah i wanted to tell u , its a medical procedure so u might get pain ofc but if u are motivate, really motivate do it and bear the pain.Hope my unfortunate experience educated someone here. Currently cramping hard under a blanket with a hot thing on my belly , wish u a great experience
It is very much worth it , but it isn’t always 15 seconds of pain and it isn’t a pinch. It’s a crazy amount of pressure and it HURTS!!! I cramped for two days bad !! And I spotted for a month after I’ve had unprotected sex though and been good so that’s good but the cramps from the iud have been crucial since the beginning, whenever they do come
I got the IUD and yeah it was excruciating. I screamed, I cried, I think it was extra painful for me because I had nothing but 800 mg of ibuprofen. My doctor told me I have a ridge in my cervix that made things difficult so he tried to go in, couldnt, and had to dilate me. Then the actual insertion took place and I swear I felt the IUD arms expand in my uterus. I have never been more aware of an internal organ in my life. Right after the procedure, the pain was gone. Just like that. Had some very mild cramping and spotting but my regular period cramps hurt way worse than what I experienced post IUD insertion. And t was worth it, been on it for a month and I am so glad I did it.
*disclaimer, I had a baby 10 weeks before so my cervix was softer* I had the paragard put in and it wasn't a big deal. Took Ibuprofen before and after and just hung out on the couch. Honestly it just feels like really bad cramps and walking around right after sucks. But the next day I was totally fine. Best decision I ever made because I can choose when I want to have another kid and will be fine for up to 10 years!
Have you ever got a cut on your finger or any other body parts with a knife????? That pain is similar to the pain to feel at the time of mirena insertion. Pov: did this made clear about the kind of pain during the insertion of mirena????
Hi, ladies I just got a IUD done a week ago I had no idea what to expect. That was the most pain I have ever felt. my stomach cramps for 2 days after the procedure and I still have sharp pains through out the day they dont last long but they are painful. I will never get the IUD again.
Omg, everyone is like "It's a pinch" holy fucking shit No. NO. That shit hurt, I thought I was going to passout. Worst pain I've ever had, no kids for me.
Got mine done today... it hurt like hell! I mean I cried.... Lying in bed with the worst cramps and dosed up on pain meds! I have many piercings and tattoes not a wimp at all, and would never get this done again! So bloody painful...
I just got mine done today. These comments are very validating!! LOL It hurt like the dickens and made me light headed and queasy. The 600 mg of ibuprofen taken an hour before did NOTHING before and after. I had a lot more errands to do so I did a lot of walking which helped distract me, but only if I kept moving. Now this evening with 400 mg of ibuprofen and two hot water bottles, it now just feels like bad period cramps. I'm excited to not have to worry about getting pregnant, though! 10/10 would do it again. 😂
i had tried it with 3 diff people but the last one who has been an expert as she is doing it for years made it just fine with only the slightest pain. the others are shitfull painful
I got my IUD 3 days ago, and just now came back to this video because I had to process what I had just done to myself. I screamed the entire time, I almost ripped the table I was laying on apart. My butt hurts from clenching so hard, and I tried.. I really tried to relax but god it hurt so bad. The process of insertion honestly was traumatic. It was blinding.. literally. The weirdest thing about it though is that.. I mean yeah I had some brutal cramping for a few seconds after the IUD was placed but then the pain was just gone within seconds. I haven’t really had any pain or cramping since. It didn’t make sense to me that I went through that hellish pain and then it was just gone.
I have no idea what these people in the video are talking about. I was in a lot of pain and really sore for the rest of the day. Then three weeks of cramps worse than the ones they were trying to make better with the iud.
These reviews don't fit how my experience was at all. The insertion isn't a walk in the park for everyone. It took much longer than 15 seconds. I had a full conversation with the MA about her birthday while the intense cramping started. Never had I had cramps that bad. I was given a med to help relax the muscles and took ibuprofen for pain but I didn't believe either did anything. The cramps were off and on for the next three days.
I wish the video had a more broad spectrum of experiences, I’m sure majority of women’s experience is cramping, short pain. But thought I’d share mine too. I had an iud inserted 8 weeks post partum, the dr had a lot of experience inserting them but I reacted poorly. I passed out and threw up post insertion (I had delivered my daughter naturally so generally high pain tolerance) The week post insertion I was in a lot of pain, cramping, barely could walk at times but got used to it. One year later: I got PREGNANT with it in, the IUD perforated my uterus, I miscarried my baby, then had to have laparoscopic surgery to remove the IUD because it had migrated from inside my uterus to up by my belly button.
Got my Mirena IUD today. Wanted lighter and easier periods. - Took 2 Advils 1 hour before procedure. No other medication. - Went on 3rd day of period. - Didn’t bring anyone with me. - Painful 3sec burning sensation on insertion of both the initial sonogram stick and then the clamp thing to open up vagina. - Uncomfortable crampy pressure that increased when sonogram stick and clamp thing reached some kind of wall. - The pinch was just another kind of uncomfortable pressure for me. Not painful. - So far feeling crampy and like I need to sit on the toilet and either poop or menstruate. A little bit of nausea. Update 5hours later: - Cramps have definitely ramped up after Advil effect. Taking Advil again. Update 24hours - Advil helps. - Get bad cramps for an hour. It settles down for a couple, and then they start again. - Spotting.
How can she sit there and say it’s 15 seconds of pain? Listening to that made me angry.. it was a very painful experience that lasted a lot longer than a few seconds - and I like to think of myself as someone who can handle a bit of pain!!
The insertion of the iud is not what hurts! It's the tool called the tenaculum that hurts! They use it to pierce the cervix to hold it in place but it doesn't have to be used in most cases! I had the copper iud placed without it and had no pain!
Gosh guys I'm so nervous and scared... Coz I'm thinking of getting one in the near future but after reading all your experiences I'm totally pissed off and in a dilemma of what to do... 😕😐😑
I got mine today and I breathed through it and it’s not that it hurt it was just the pressure of everything in there and the pinch of insertion that suuuucked
My IUD insertion did not hurt at all 😐, the only thing that was SUPER uncomfortable was the speculum opening my vagina. I honestly believe if you’re super tense during the whole procedure, obviously you’ll feel triple the pain than it really is...
I was given one pill to "relax" my cervix, other than that I had nothing else. The pill did not help at all in regards to opening my cervix or making it easier to keep it open. My OB tried for an hour to get it in before I finally asked to pay 300$ for a cervical block, it was excruciating to begin with and the cervical block was also excruciating while it was happening and finally it was able to go in. It was expelled from my body not 6 months later, also extremely painful, so much so I had to go to the emergency room. It's not always sunshine and daisies!
I have fibromyalgia so my whole body is always tense just because that's how fibro is and I've had it for over 10 years. I tried to get it last week but my cervix just wouldn't budge open, so they told me to come back later and take a pill to soften things up down there an hour before my appointment. But yeah I screamed at the top of my lungs and it hurt horribly. I feel like there isn't enough representation of what it's like for people with different chronic pain illnesses, like endometriosis and fibromyalgia. It definitely hurt like hell! Happy others in this video didn't have that experience, but yeah it felt like falling crotch first on an ice pick. I had a really intense vasovagal response, my arms, hands, calves and feet all went numb and my entire body was sweating intensely. I curled up in fetal position and sipped a sprite for 10 minutes before I could get up and walk around. I bet it will be worth it, I just wish there was more information about what to expect when you already have chronic pain.
I just got my IUD in today. I took 3 ibuprofens before. The pain felt like heavy cramps on a bad day. It wasn’t as terrible as I thought it would be. Would I do it again? Yes. Do I want to? ..No thanks
Absolutely painful. Hurt so bad during insertion and then cramping for weeks after. Super excruciating and gets in the way of my way at work even a month after.
Just got it today and it did not hurt whatsoever, it was only slightly uncomfortable. Ask your doctor what their policy is on insertion. Many will force the cervix open if its closed and that’s when people will experience awful pain.
It’s interesting that everyone has different experiences regarding the pain during the insertion and the cramping afterwards. I had mine fitted yesterday, both the insertion and the pain I have been experiencing afterwards has been an absolute nightmare. My cramps are much much less now and just feel like a bad period. Thanks to the painkillers I’m taking. But yesterday when I walked out of that clinic I could not stop crying, I was rocking and writhing in pain. I had never felt such intense pain before. I’m happy though, as long as it doesn’t move out of place and cause problems then I’d do it again, but I would definitely take something before going in next time, and I’d definitely choose a different doctor.
I got mine today and was hopeful that it wouldn’t be too bad. I was very very wrong, I took painkiller, which was all they recommended before the procedure, and it was still the worse pain I have experienced in my life. The insertion wasn’t the worst of it, it was bad but i definitely was not prepare for what came after. My cramps were so severe I started sweating and almost passed out, I turned white as a ghost and then got cold and could not stop shaking the entire time. Thank god my bf drove me to the appointment because there was no way I would’ve been able to drive myself anywhere. We got home quickly and I took a lot more painkillers and prayed to god for the pain to go away (I’m not even religious) and finally after what felt like hours (it was only actually like 30-45min) the pain subsided. Now I’m laying in bed terrified the cramps are slowly going to come back. If the insertion was anything close to what labor feels like there’s no way in hell I’m having kids. Anyways good luck to anyone considering this option, I personally wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a doctor who’s prescribed cervical block/softeners
Crap mine hurt like extremely bad and felt like I was having a miscarriage all over again!!! I have had it for like 6 months and I completely hate it more then anything I cramped up for a week and every period feels like I am getting it all over again every month
wondering how you're doing with it did it have to come out? this is how i felt and mine has migrated and is trying to expel/perforate getting it out today, worrying now about THAT pain
I'm getting mine tomorrow, I'm getting knocked out. I thought everyone did until I watched a few videos. Im in Australia, not sure if standard here or not. Very helpful video, thankyou
I got told it was going to be moderate pain, I ended up in a&e after because I could not stop throwing up because of the pain. This was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life!
I am a family physician and I have undergone the IUD procedure and I also perform the procedure in the office. My experience was 8 out of 10 pain during the insertion, but cramping afterwards was not bad. I cried during the procedure because the sounding or measuring part of the procedure was not successful. It took 3 different doctors to try the insertion. Was a horrible experience. So, my experience in performing the procedure is every woman is different. Some hardly feel anything and others nearly pass out from pain.
I got mine day before yesterday. Man guys, I can honestly say I've only had one other experience in my life that was more painful than that. It hurt so bad! It took a while to complete, and the doc apologized and said mine was more difficult to place than usual (I'm guessing because my uterus is tilted). When they walked out of the room after it was done so i could get dressed, I just started sobbing. I couldn't help it. Nobody had told me to take pain meds before, so I hadn't taken any. Believe me, I defintely will next time. I'll probably even request a very strong one from the doctor just to be sure. I had an hour long ride home after, and it was a pretty painful and crampy ride. I was so happy to get home and lay down. But the good news is I'm only two days into it and the cramps are getting better already. No spotting or anything yet. I will say that even though it was excruciatingly painful, I would do it again because the reason I got it is to hopefully regulate my cycle so I don't have periods that last 2+ months long. Anything is better than dealing with that. But yeah, it hurt terribly. So brace yourselves. And if you're a lucky one that barely feels it, I'm very happy for you. Yikes.
Short answer: yes, like hell. 1g paracetamol and 1g Ibuprofen still made me cry and scream. And you can't move. Got it and right after blood pressure droped and I blacked out. Oh, I also got panick attacks from my body rejecting it's presence there. Worse weeks of my life. I was miserable. Removed it and am now on pills. If you have sensory sensitivity HAVE A TALK WITH YOUR THERAPIST AND DOCTOR FIRST!
I’ve done mine today , I swear it did not hurt , I only felt little cramps that’s all , it took 2 mnt to get it done , I can’t handle the pain , but this one it was piece of cake , I’m sooo glad that I did it, after I read the scary comments , I almost canceled , I’m glad I didn’t
I got mine an hour ago. I was planning on heading to class afterwards but I'm still in so much pain that I just took the day off. It was the worst pain I've ever felt 😂
How long did the cramping stay consistent? I’m three almost four weeks in and my cramping is daily. Not full force but sometimes it’ll come super strong
I had 2 babies prior to getting mirena. The day of insertion I found out I had endometriosis. I will agree with everyone you cramp for days after then you feel bloated and blah. I'm going on 11 days now. I have had light bleeding since. And nice warm baths with epsom salt seems to help relax my muscles. My obgyn said mines good for 8 years I just hope that I'm part of the 40% of women who will no longer have a period.
I got a mirena. It didn’t hurt much during but about 5 min after I started to feel pain so bad I could barely walk. This continued for 2 days or so. For the 3 years I had it I had some back pain and I could feel the strings scratching my cervix. The injury made me unable to clear an hpv infection which required surgery 2 years later. I personally prefer Nuva ring but know it has its own issues. Good luck!
İ got the kyleena inserted yesterday and it didnt hurt. İ was concerned because everyone told about the extreme pain and cramp. İ had none of this. When the doctor told me that they have finished, İ was surprised and asked “that was it?!i thought that its goşng to hurt”. They laughed😳
It's honestly some of the worst pain I've been in, I'd heard some scary stories from friends and I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I'd seen content like this but I was not prepared at all for the extreme cramping afterwards.
It's so nice to hear the story of a trans person. I'm also trans and I'm interested in getting it but I'm super scared. Good to hear that some trans people also do this.
So I’m just saying if anyone is watching this video and is about to get an IUD insertion I promise you that most these videos are just going to traumatize you before you go get it inserted because before the night of me getting my IUD I watched many RUclips videos about these people saying they cried and screamed it was the worst pain of their life but if you take at least three ibuprofens if you go in there with a positive and strong mind like hey this is totally worth it it’s five years of birth control I’m going to be OK trust me it will all work out I came to the hospital and since this whole corona thing my mom couldn’t be in there with me so it was very stressful on my hand and I’m also 16 but when I got into the room and talk to the doctors about it they were extremely helpful and caring and they talk me through it I got the mirena which is a bit bigger than the Kylenna When you get onto the bed the doctors made me feel super comfortable they were just super caring and they were there when it you know I was shouting not loud I just said a couple swearwords and I just felt like too cramps just too cramps that’s all just too painful cramps and it was over with so no you’re not gonna scream and cry you may if you have a very high pain tolerance and if you don’t take ibuprofen but if you take ibuprofen it’s still kind of have a high pain tolerance trust me everything will be OK just take a deep breath go in there strong knowing that it will all be OK
I just got mine 2 days ago all this stories are making me so frightened dude😂😂 it’s my first time getting birth control so I’m just idk what to expect.
I personally think we should have the option of being knocked out for this procedure.
I was saying just this!!
Melissa Ballard did you know they can inject your cervix so it’s numb when you have this. I had this and felt hardly any pain at all
Sally Sommerford i asked them to do that and they said no
It’s the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt. The dr said I’d just feel some mild to moderate cramping....I passed out after and cried for hours after that! I was not prepared to feel somthing like a fire poker stabbing me.
@@keiratemplin6109 How was your insertion?
“A fire poker” lmfao SERIOUSLY DOE
This is exactly what I felt. Omg I cried alot. I was not mentally prepared.
How come mine wasn’t painful? It was just uncomfortable when the doctor was measuring my uterus
@@Leslygx3 everyone’s different
If you are a scared person reading the comments, there is no way to know how it will feel until you do it. After reading all the horror stories, I was expecting terrible terrible pain, but it wasn' that bad for me.
Idk if this is comforting or just more scary, but everyone is different. You might experience pain, you might not, the only way to find out is to have it done. If you are very worried, try to find a provider who will give you a local aenesthetic, and take ibuprophen beforehand.
Unfortunately that wasn't aloud in my state 😢 It was extremely painful.
Reading from people how it was the most painful thing ever terrified me, I almost called out because of fear. I decided to still go and it was not as bad as I thought it would be, of course, everyone is different but it was a small pain and discomfort but what hurt more for me was the cramps right after.
the fact that a trans man is in here is just beautiful
Do not read comments! They don’t help!😂
Thank you cause I'm freaking out now
Damn forreal 😂😂😂 I just came back from the doctor whosuggested it since I have pcos and nooope, not gonna do it 😅 I’m gonna keep my stupid irregularcycles lol
Marina Mancilla Traverso I got my IUD a week ago, It didn’t hurt at all, don’t not get and IUD because some people have bad experiences and are dramatic, it’s just really uncomfortable and crampy
@@marinatraverso9288 I have pcos to but I recommend you do some type of birth control because you can become anemic or get cancer.
i cant believe how refreshing it is to see a trans masculine person like me in a video like this
Okay this video made me super chill about it beforehand, but let me tell you, it was the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life, and I'm not exaggerating. I don't know if these people got pain killers or what but I just got ibuprofen and wish I could've been knocked out. Will definitely be if I ever decide to do this again in 5 years.
Giana Leo I’m getting mine next month and I was told by my doctor to take 800 mg of ibuprofen beforehand
I totally agree it hurt soooo bad i almost passed out i screamed fuck really loud lol
Thank god someone finally understands I feel like I’m being a huge baby
I did to lol.. Some people say it didn't hurt them an it shocks me because i cried it hurts so dam bad
Jessykah Lopez I just got mine in today and thought my friend was crazy when she said they gave her something beforehand now I’m jealous!!
I can relate more to the commenters than the people in the video, it hurt so bad I wanted to cry, it wasn't a "slight cramp" or "pinch" it was excruciating PAIN.
Would I do it again in 3 years?
....Yup
Stephany Mancia I screamed!
Lmao
What annoys me about this is they don't explain what was included in their procedure, some people are given pain killers, or a cervical block to relieve pain at the site, and others are given nothing, plus everyone's body is different
alliesong77 I got nothing! Worst pain ever!!
Scatterbrained YES i hated not being able to just curl up into a ball
So, in summery then, yes, yes it does hurt. A LOT apparently....
It hurts like a bitch for like... 10-15 seconds, then it's like uncomfortable menstural cramps to early miscarriage levels of pains for the first days, then the cramps should start to wear of. I was back to normal on day three. If they increase something went wrong
Total lies. Its agony.
Get put to sleep you don't feel a thing
why would they be lying? They just had a different experience than yours...
Yup i cant sleep from it right now :(
@thesavagekitty what is that supposed to mean? I just wanted to say that they might not be lying. We all experience things differently. I've heard people saying that it hurt and people saying that it was OK.
It was really really painful. I dont care what no one says
Have you ever had a kid?
Can we just take a minute to appreciate how inclusive this video is?
And it doesn't cram it down your throat.
I got mine 2 days ago and it hurt. like. hell. Even sitting here now I'm still in severe pain, I really hope it was worth it.
Give your pain about 3 months to subside. The heavy bleeding is rough, too.
That was me 3 weeks ago. I have cramping everyday. Not horrid cramps but they do get pretty bad and it comes out of no where, and then they’ll disappear. It’s so confusing makes me feel like I’m freaking pregnant
Got mine an hour ago. That was excruciating. I threw up and had heat flashes. Take meds before you go! I don't think I wanna have kids now.
I’m still mad about it
Also for context I have been through excruciating pain.
I'm getting one and it really is stressing me out
Same girl, I’m like years late but there’s so many mixed opinions. If you see this, how was it?
@@ZA-lw6jm how'd it go?
chile mole pozole My cervix ended up not being dilated enough (which is normal for people who haven’t had kids) so I’m going in for a round 2 next month once I get the medication that will help dilate my cervix. The beginning of the procedure leading up to it not going in wasn’t bad, I was just upset it didn’t go in😂
@@ZA-lw6jm update please 😊
chile mole pozole I’ll get back to you October 14th!
When I tell y’all that thang HURT. It’s like period cramps to the extreme. I ain’t lying.
I actually yelled from the pain 🙃
Everyone: don’t! Read! The comments!!
I watched this video before I got my IUD and absolutely freaked out. I thought getting my IUD would be the worst pain of my life after reading these comments, and while I’m sure everyone’s story is accurate to them, they are outlier stories! I went into the doctors office SCARED AF and the pain turned out to be incredibly minimal and completely manageable. Yes- it’s possible it could be painful but chances are you can easily handle it!! Don’t make the same mistake I did by psyching yourself out!!!!
I felt like zero pain. I also took a Valium and 800mg ibuprofen beforehand. (As the doctor's reco). Just fyi.
Wtf you’re so friggin lucky girl
I’m having mine tomorrow and there’s no pain relief so I assume I have to take the regular 800mg ibuprofen. I wish I had Valium or morphine!! 😔😔😔
Went to a really good doctor. 100% painfree. Not pain. Light to zero cramping.
@@janikawanner635 mine is still painful 1½yrs down.... And it's so painful
i tapped out after they inserted the tool to measure my cervix and then when she was like "im gonna have to dilate it more" I said nope NOPE NOPE please dont i want to stop. I cant even imagine the pain I would have to go through with the stretching. IM trying again but IMA DO IT with my new friend Mary Jane for that optimal support.
I wish my experience with insertion was half as good as some of these ladies' experience!
Also...to clarify....I’ve never had children either.
I went through the horrible pain of getting the IUD which I didn’t know would hurt. And I was in bad pain for a week. And guess what. Two weeks after insertion I went pee and wiped and the iud was on the toilet paper. Fell out on its own. After just two weeks of having it. I was pissed!!!
nae-lynn187 wtffff omg that’s horrible 😥
do u happen to remember what type of iud it was?
The fact that they had trans representation made me super happy. And in general with everyone a little less nervous.
H Hernandez hahaha just wait, you'll get pregnant, and even if you have a c section, you will look back on the iud like why did i think that was bad?
That was my experience too. I could not stand up straight after getting the IUD.
I got mines today I cried to and threw up it was horrible
I kept thinking omg in 5 more years I gotta come back and do this all over again!
im so glad they have trans representation
It’s really great!
anthea this "male" has a vagina... like, born female, turned male. So yeah, still has a uterus and everything (he passes pretty well tho lol)
@@HairandMakeup202 ... what are you talking about? He's a male but his assigned gender was female which is why he still has a uterus to insert the IUD in. Hi future person getting an iud,
I got mine two hour ago. Currently cramping hard under a blanket with a hot thing on my belly , wish u a great experience
the insertion was maybe 2 minutes and barely hurt at all but immediately after was such bad cramps i was screaming and crying.
I'm about to get mine in about an hour. Thank you I needed this
how was it?? I'm just reading horrible comments and I'm scared
Scared also
“A little bit of pain” I’m still cramping a week later
"15 seconds of pain"
Stabbing someone only takes 1 second, but you still wanna be stabbed?
You don't end up with a gaping hole with blood gushing out after an IUD insertion though
It hurt like hell...speaking from experience....after that i was in lots of pain for 3 days
V Knight my one took like 20 mins and i was shouting and after that I threw up.... So yeah, same here, no kids for me!
I swear !!!!!!
V Knight I totally agree! Worst pain ever!
Got mine done today... it hurt like hell! I mean I cried.... Lying in bed with the worst cramps and dosed up on pain meds!
I have many piercings and tattoes not a wimp at all, and would never get this done again! So bloody painful...
Me, too! I had mine removed today. Proud of my decision.♡
this is ME. TODAY!!!!!
Sameee ! I cried then threw up and I have piercings and tattoos also I have a really high pain tolerance so it was horrible
I just got mine done today. These comments are very validating!! LOL
It hurt like the dickens and made me light headed and queasy. 😂
Thanks for making this video! It is so amazingly helpful for me preparing to have my IUD placed!
i had tried it with 3 diff people but the last one who has been an expert as she is doing it for years made it just fine with only the slightest pain. the others are shitfull painful
Hurt more than having my son. Don't think I will do this again.. .
Try not having a kid and getting it done tried 2 times one was awake other was asleep
I literally got one today and it was like a 5 on the pain scale and it was only for like a minute and now I’m just cramping but nothing crazy.
One year later: I got PREGNANT with it in, the IUD perforated my uterus, I miscarried my baby, then had to have laparoscopic surgery to remove the IUD because it had migrated from inside my uterus to up by my belly button.
im getting mine in a few weeks and im absolutely terrified but this video has helped me fee much better about it
Got my Mirena IUD today.
Update 5hours later:
- Cramps have definitely ramped up after Advil effect. Taking Advil again.
Update 24hours
- Advil helps.
Stay mad then. That was her experience. Every body is different
Ashwini Raghavendra same ! I’m thinking of getting one next month but all these comments are scaring me
I got mine today and I breathed through it and it’s not that it hurt it was just the pressure of everything in there and the pinch of insertion that suuuucked
I just got mine today and watching this from the cramping corner tonight. Jesus help meee
The hardest part for me was definitely the clamp they put on your cervix. The measuring/insertion I didn’t feel because of the clamping pain
I wish they would be honest about the pain. The insertion and the post-insertion cramping were awful. Advil is a must!
I personally felt extremely hurt. I felt very dizzy and pain. I don’t recommend if you really scared of hurt than don’t get it.
WORST pain I have ever felt
Nooooo...... not my case 😭
It was horrible. Hurt more than my csection recup
10 seconds? More like 10 minutes that felt like 1 hour
I almost puked, pain was a 8 bruh it’s now a 6 and in waves !
Yes freaking waves !!!
