I think a lot of people miss the point of the pills verse. Shes comparing the experience of being ghosted by a drug dealer to the the addictive nature of a trauma bond after being love bombed, and the traumatic withdrawal after being devalued and discarded. He was an addict who was ghosted by a dealer - now he knows what he made her feel like. Aka the narcissistic cycle. Im not the one saying it, man. The lyrics are clear as day. She mentions love bombing and future faking and everything relevant to the narcissistic cycle countless times on this album, and even in the poem she wrote. Its just clear as day she feels that this is what their dynamic was.
It's a normal behavior for dealers. I had to see this milieu far too close and I can assure you some of them love having power over their clients. Ghosting is normal just to make people suffer because you can. The worst is others addicts either agree with the fact you are ''punished'' either fake they are because they need to buy their dose. So nobody will ever help you in this situation. Sometimes they even let people with nothing the time of the withdrawal and when it's finished they come back with some drvgs so you are back again. It's a very sadistic milieu and this is far from the worse. So I suppose if he is a drug addict living that is normal for him and may have known it several times in his life. Later on, way after I finally broke up with him, my best guy friend who had kept in touch with him (mostly to make sure he didn’t unalive himself, which I gave him the go ahead for bc as hurt as I was by his actions, I’d never want anyone to do that to themselves, especially not on my account) said that he was acting like a stalker/incel with girls that he worked with and told him all kinds of crazy stories about messed up shit he did to these girls (like putting a girl on blast via Snapchat to ALL of their mutual coworkers, bosses included, after only two weeks of dating and her breaking up with him for legitimate reasons) and my bestie was like uh, no dude, you’re very much in the wrong on these things, and stopped being friends with him after years of looking out for him bc he just crossed too many moral lines that he couldn’t support anymore and felt like staying friends with him would just be indirectly condoning that behavior and enabling him to do it more. All the while, the guy I’m dating now and have been for the past 3 1/2 years is someone I only knew for a few weeks of talking online before dating and we instantly became best friends while building our relationship. I dated my “best friend” and he was an awful boyfriend (and person, turns out). Dated a good boyfriend, and he became my best friend. Funny how life works out like that. Point of that very long rant is sometimes dating your best friend doesn’t always work out bc they can just be playing the long game and hoping y’all eventually date, so it’s better to date someone who can become your best friend while dating. Granted, my brother is dating his best friend of many years and she’s LOVELY. A total breath of fresh air after he had two consecutive super emotionally abusive relationships. So sometimes dating an existing best friend does work out. But like, that best friendship guarantees nothing. A relationship either works or doesn’t regardless of how long you knew each other prior. Once the relationship starts, everything can change. It might not, or might change for the better like in my brother’s case, but it deff can change for the worst like in my case. But I’m glad I took the chance and found out it wasn’t meant to be and now I never have to wonder “what if”. I know we weren’t meant to be and that even our friendship wasn’t real or worth holding onto. Better to find out when I did than even later on. At least I was able to learn from it and apply those lessons to my following relationships and eventually end up in my current one that I’m finally extremely happy in 🥰 everything works out like it’s supposed to, so Taylor is probably better off for it working out that way with Matt just like I was with my ex. Hopefully she and Travis work out, but either way she was better off knowing who Matt really is sooner rather than later 👍
My suspicion is, he is still on drugs. And once the extra fame broke out with Taylor, and then people started looking more into his life, he got nervous people would find out about the drugs. So he had to ghost Taylor asap. It is very difficult and risky to date even supposed former addicts.

I’m sure I’ll be attacked but as someone who knows addiction very well, maybe it played into it. They were viciously attacked, he had ghosted his ex for Taylor. And I can’t imagine her limelight would be any good for his recovery. And that’s what addicts do. They run. They run from all the hard things. So sometimes dating an existing best friend does work out. But like, that best friendship guarantees nothing. A relationship either works or doesn’t regardless of how long you knew each other prior. Once the relationship starts, everything can change. It might not, or might change for the better like in my brother’s case, but it deff can change for the worst like in my case. But I’m glad I took the chance and found out it wasn’t meant to be and now I never have to wonder “what if”. I know we weren’t meant to be and that even our friendship wasn’t real or worth holding onto. Better to find out when I did than even later on. At least I was able to learn from it and apply those lessons to my following relationships and eventually end up in my current one that I’m finally extremely happy in 🥰 everything works out like it’s supposed to, so Taylor is probably better off for it working out that way with Matt just like I was with my ex. Hopefully she and Travis work out, but either way she was better off knowing who Matt really is sooner rather than later 👍
