Thank you for making this video. Your voice over was extremely helpful and full of tips. i haven't worked with pastels since grade school and wanted an idea how they behave with each other. Subscribed!
use prismacolor pencils I also hate pastels I use prisamcolor pencils and They are amazing!!! i can get the small details and everything I highly recommend
All my compliment to you you are so talented, amazing, look like real eye !!! Thank you for your wonderful lesson, I will try also, I love pastel, I make a lot ,but I will try this also, soooo beautiful .Janine xxx
+RosesofVersailles I advise you to step up from anime, its a good base, but find you own style, because there are a LOT of people that draw anime. Art schools and companys are kinda tired of it.
+Green Animations I suppose they would be tired of it but I mostly draw for fun and because I love to. I suppose I should do that either way though. It could benefit me in the future to be able to draw more than anime characters...so, thanks?
No one is just born with talent in something. They work hard for the skill. All the greats had Mentors that they studied under. You just have to put more time into it and you will be awesome!
This was amazing help! I've literally just started using pastels and tho i'm missing most of the shades (creme/pure white or the bloody perfect shades of green and blue) this made me realize that shades aren't always black and gray, and yellow mixes really well. Thanks!!
Wow. That was wonderful. I've never painted or thought about this until stumbling onto this video....Rembrandt pastels? Here I come! Mesmerizing video & generous share. Head bow, glass of water raised high to you! Cheers.
yes great study of the eye but can not use very much of this unless you are working on a portrait that would include an eye to be this large. I personally rarely get to work larger then 16 x 20 on a pastel. the size of this eye would never scale in with a cameo type pose
You used your index finger to blend the brown colour but then you used the same finger a minute later to blend in the peach colour, how does the peach color not get stained with brown because I usually make that mistake. I wipe my finger with a tissue but that doesn't usually help as I'd thought. Do you have any advice? Thanks.
Ok.... im totally beginner, but i want to start drawing with color .. i had enough of black and gray crayons... I am looking in my country for soft pastels, but in translations (soft pastel = pastel moale ) wich it seems i cant find... All i see online is (Translated from my language) : Grease/Fat Pastel, Oil Pastel, Chalk Pastel, Dry Pastel. I have no ideea wich is what, and what to choose for this kind of drawing (realistic), I already tryed pastel pencils and they are awsome on ordinary A4 paper, and i want to order some good paper for pastels along with some pastel sticks and some more pencils, a colour shaper too, and everything else that i think im gonna need... Can u please just let me know what kind of pastel sticks are best? Oil, Grease/Fat, Chalk, Dry?
Drawing and Painting Tutorials - TheVirtualInstructor.com Thanks alot... I thought so after i read some more, but now with ur answer i know for a fact what i will get... THANKS ALOT AGAIN !!
Drawing and Painting Tutorials - TheVirtualInstructor.com Im gonna show u 2-3 link, tell me wich ones u think are the best for a beginer (Best quality / price) : 1. www.pictorshop.ro/grafica/desen/pastel/pastel/pastel-cretat-dur-carre-cretacolor.html 2. www.pictorshop.ro/grafica/desen/pastel/pastel/pastel-cretat-extrafin-artisti-maimeri.html 3. www.colorit.ro/products/pastel-sennelier-ecu.html I usualy go for the expensive ones "thinking they are better" but i really got to think if at my level i will get to feel the difference !!!
Also....Do you ever resort to using the silicon blenders as apposed to the paper stumps? And if so, when is the best time to utilize them? Or is it like swatting flies? You accomplish just as much with a 50 cent swatter than you would with a 12 gauge shot gun! Right? Ha Ha! K.I.S.S.!
Very cool. Good instructions and certainly agree...we all solve our "problems" differently but i got a few tips from you! Im a sketch guy but trying my hand w pastels. Fingers crossed. If i get half as skilled as you I'll be on the right track. (Not sure how this vid got 69 thumbs down. Must be jealous artists)
Matt: How do you keep the edge of your pastel for find details? Mine get flattened out and harder to keep the details crisp! Do you keep away from using pastel pencils on purpose? I thought like Colin Bradley, the hardness of his Faber Castel's and their capability to maintain a sharp point would be advantageous in this regard! But who needs pastel pencils when you are this good? Right?
So was the reference image Olivia Wilde? ;-) The colors seem right - I was looking at closeups today and thinking about trying to do her eyes in colored pencil.
This was so wonderful. Issues I have is layering. I'm going to try this. BUT again after 3 layers. no more chalk will go on unless I spray it with a sealant. Also do you coat the paper before you use your Rembrandt pastels?
For those who asked certain questions and were given no answers at all maybe, like me with frustrations when the poster doesn't reply, is to read the links in the description for anything relating to this process. I so much wanted to know what surface paper to use and the answer was in the link. TRY IT! Also, I might add, he did state the paper used at the very beginning.
Khushtbaht10 egnore my brother and sister. I have been a while. I'm sure you have any queries, you'll find it difficult for me to be the best, but the truth
I would like to start drawing with pastels, but I'm a bit scared...Usually my drawings are smaller and so I need a lot of precision for details and pastels seem kinda hard to handle. Any tips?
Hi😊, well firstly try to draw Bigger. Not a "Masterpiece" but star off with basic shapes and work on shading, then with the shapes of whatever it is you draw(like the human figure, animals, trees, etc,). Then if the soft pastels don't give you that definition you're looking for,ten try "Pastel pencils" they're basically hard pastels in pencil form! I know I'm a little late but I hope this helps, and if u need to know anything else just ask and I'll do my best to answer! Good luck with your drawing!😊🙋
It's so realistic, I'm waiting for her to blink!
Lol
SO GREAT! I am also a beginner, but I feel this artist is a very great teacher! Thanks for the video!
I always mess up the eyelashes
That's where I blow it too. Gonna keep trying though.
It’s annoying, is t it,? Because you do the lashes after doing all the other details.
The eyelash growth bed is called a waterline. Its what makeup artists call it
oh my gosh!!!!!!! thank you so much it was my first time using oil pastel and i am so proud of myself with the final outcome.
Thank you for making this video. Your voice over was extremely helpful and full of tips. i haven't worked with pastels since grade school and wanted an idea how they behave with each other. Subscribed!
Pastels are so messy I can't stand them!! It's so hard for me to make details ughh ): everything I draw looks terrible
If u love to draw never quit because even though u say u suck soon you'll be like I was wrong I knew I could do it if I kept trying

....some people are freaking talented. Then there's me. Who can barely draw proper stick figures but can draw anime...sorta.
RosesofVersailles Nice don't worry you will get better with time. You can have a look at my channel as well. thanks.

How is your drawing progress after 2 years:)
Pretty, Thank you very much
So helpful! Thank you so much for the detailed instruction.
Wow! I am fascinated by art, but am not artistically inclined at all. However, you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.

EXELENTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
That's scary. There'll be an eye watching u every time u walk in ur art gallery
Something Amazing about eye artwork! Lots of Love from Fatema's Art Show x
Amazing👍🏻👏🏻
it's awesome I can't believed that it will became a realistic eye using pastel
So was the reference image Olivia Wilde? ;-) The colors seem right - I was looking at closeups today and thinking about trying to do her eyes in colored pencil.

Is there a way you can draw a realistic one even if there aren't enough paste colors
How do you get the sharp white? Every time I go over the eye color with white it blends in with the other colors and doesn’t come out bright white :/
Khushtbaht10 egnore my brother and sister. I have been a while. I'm sure you have any queries, you'll find it difficult for me to be the best, but the truth
What did you use to sharpen the pencil you used for the lashes? Would an x-acto knife work?
Just need some guide i dont know shit but my class represented me in a fucking contest :))) thxxx
This was so informative, however the video is on a very large scale. How can this useful for a portrait on a smaller scale- ex. 11x14 perhaps ?
Great video but the funky elevator jazz piano in the background made me want to smash my head off the wall
Is anybody watching while scrolling?????😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@koshicka I did not know what that this is either but I have found it. It is called as stump is a densely rolled paper tool used for blending pastel.
What paper did you use here
It’s cornea, not iris....although cornea is transparent so I guess u are referring to iris underneath...very nice painting
I would like to start drawing with pastels, but I'm a bit scared...Usually my drawings are smaller and so I need a lot of precision for details and pastels seem kinda hard to handle. Any tips?

QueenSahara Eyes Thank you for the tips! I really appreciate it!
No prob😊
just begin. you can watch my channel as well to see another angle on soft pastel.
thank you for posting. i'm not creating an eye, but this video helped a beginner like me with tips on how to handle the medium, and i appreciate that.
Are soft pastels the same as oil pastels
Where can I get this blending stump from ? And can it be used for oil pastels as well?
