This was amazing help! I've literally just started using pastels and tho i'm missing most of the shades (creme/pure white or the bloody perfect shades of green and blue) this made me realize that shades aren't always black and gray, and yellow mixes really well. Thanks!!
Wow. That was wonderful. I've never painted or thought about this until stumbling onto this video....Rembrandt pastels? Here I come! Mesmerizing video & generous share. Head bow, glass of water raised high to you! Cheers.
Thank you for making this video. Your voice over was extremely helpful and full of tips. i haven't worked with pastels since grade school and wanted an idea how they behave with each other. Subscribed!
I wish I was taught at an early age on drawing instead of just drawing simple cartoons. Your explanation on layering colours and technique were mind blowing Im hoping to get back drawing :3 Thank you
I always wanted to try using pastels because for Christmas I got like three sets and more of them. I can draw manga and anime, but I just need to get use to this. beautiful drawing
Amazing...I'm a true beginning and attempting to paint my gorgeous 24 year old granddaughter (with soft pastels and pastels pencils)...I've already made my first mistake, I sketched her picture with a graphite pencil so when I started to put down color I noticed the color smearing...I will try to live with it, after all it is my first try.thank you for your videos..excellent...
Nov. 26/16 - Wonderful tutorial, thanks so much. I have difficulty with my right arm and elbow so painting is difficult but this is a whole new world for me. I just love the texture and the outcome of your 'eye'. Truly realistic! Many thanks mister (smile). Keep making tutorials so we can learn? Blessings.
All my compliment to you you are so talented, amazing, look like real eye !!! Thank you for your wonderful lesson, I will try also, I love pastel, I make a lot ,but I will try this also, soooo beautiful .Janine xxx
For those who asked certain questions and were given no answers at all maybe, like me with frustrations when the poster doesn't reply, is to read the links in the description for anything relating to this process. I so much wanted to know what surface paper to use and the answer was in the link. TRY IT! Also, I might add, he did state the paper used at the very beginning.
I really enjoyed your video and I noticed something the second time I watched it that I was wondering if you could explain? Around 5:25 as you darken the pupil, you moved your hand and it seemed that maybe there was a time lapse and some of the "stray" lines or lines around the edges disappeared and the pupil got maybe a shade lighter or more set in. This happened again when you were blending the pupil around 5:35. Can you explain this for me? Thanks!
This was so wonderful. Issues I have is layering. I'm going to try this. BUT again after 3 layers. no more chalk will go on unless I spray it with a sealant. Also do you coat the paper before you use your Rembrandt pastels?
Very cool. Good instructions and certainly agree...we all solve our "problems" differently but i got a few tips from you! Im a sketch guy but trying my hand w pastels. Fingers crossed. If i get half as skilled as you I'll be on the right track. (Not sure how this vid got 69 thumbs down. Must be jealous artists)
Excellent tutorial. You explained every step in order to create your drawing. I work with colored pencils and the blending seems a lot easier with pastels. What do you use to seal the drawing? Thank you for the great video.
Edgar C I noticed nobody answered you, but you can buy fixative sprays for pastels and charcoal. there are final fixatives to seal the final picture or there are workable fixatives that you can continue working with. kinda like layers on photoshop or illustrator on the computer. hairspray also works in a pinch!
A very good reference for me. Just starting colored pencil art after 2years of watercolors. Will try pastels also, but I don't like that it leaves your fingers messy. Love your accent. Reminds me of my family from Kansas,Missouri, Oklahoma,&Arkansas. I'm from Calif.
just in case no one's eve told you before, you have a VERY relaxing voice.
holy crap.
RIGHT!!! Like I'm watching this and I'm totally relaxed and motivated. There is no stress. Cause I mean, that's how drawing is supposed to be.
Casper Dillion i
Casper Dillion thank you so much for this lesson. Next tutorials please!!!!! Don’t use this music. It really is making me crazy 😖

That is beautiful. And you are right, a lot of people forget about making sure the eyelashes on the bottom part of the eye are not on the underline.
SO GREAT! I am also a beginner, but I feel this artist is a very great teacher! Thanks for the video!
