I've just turned 50 years old and I've owned so many odd European cars.......but the 1997/98 A8 is the BEST!! I've owned over 20 Audis adn never been into an engine or transmission for major repairs! I'm buyig a 1997 A8 this week for $3300 bucks and it's really amazing to think when new this car cost over $65K US!!! It's free'd us up to also own our 1998 Aston Martin DB7 coupe! Two really great cars.....paid for in full..... with cheap taxes, cheap insurance, and Aston is going up in value now! You can never go wrong with an Audi A8 as long as it's been well cared for and had it's fuids changed as it should. Fantastic Audis!!!!!!
The E38 started production in 1994 - 5 years is a long time for a car to go without major updates. Strange that he makes mention of the BMW even though the D2 A8 had been fairly outdated at that point as well.
Silly, silly man. He bashes the 7-Series but nowadays we all know the E38 is one of the best looking luxury cars of all time.... The A8 looks just like a big A4.
You must be kidding. E38 was the most mediocre designed luxury car of that times! A8 looked beautifully and had nothing to do with A4. 7 series was much better offer with 2001 Chris Bangle project of the next BMW 7th.
Had my eye on the D2 A8 for a while now. Will start looking for one in the near future. If i can keep my C5 A6 on the road this should be a breeze. I much fancy the understated look of this car, its design also has that retro vibe.
Can anyone who owns or has owned one of these tell me their experiences with the A8 in terms of reliability? How reliable are they generally? Beautiful car!
LFiers I want to buy a powerful car with V8, but I only have 11000$, can you please tell me what second hand car I can buy with my money that would be somewhat reliable?
Wise Sloth Are you looking for a luxury car? With that money, I'd recommend looking into a Lexus LS400 or the newer LS430. They are consistently recognized as the most reliable luxury car ever built & are super smooth, beautiful especially the interior, has every feature you could want & has around 300 horsepower & 5 speed auto. Have a read about them. I can give you more information if you want to see.
LFiers Yes a luxury car. I looked for LS400, but i couldn't find any newer than 1995. I am looking for something around year 2000 and newer. I just cant find any Lexus with V8 power and cheaper than 15000$ . I found a 2004 Audi A6 with a 4.2L V8 for 10000$, which looks good, but only Lexus that I found in my price range was a 2006 GS V6 for 11600$. Im not sure i can go for a V6. I am planning to go on many vacations to Canadian north on ice mountainous regions and i think a AWD V8 is a must and I hate SUVs.
I think the review is wrong. I don't think they came out with the 5V and chromed trimmed bumpers until 2000. Unless they did it near the end of 99. Thus known as "face-lift" model.
Anyone knows how much this car goes for now a days. I have saved 11000$, and I want to buy a big powerful car for vacation preferably 4.0L V8 and above and what else can I buy for 11000$?
J Massey That post was from a year ago. I ended up buying a 2004 V4 Camry for 4800$. LOL Very good on gas, and even though its 12 years old, I have yet to take into shop for anything. I just have to change the breaks probably soon. Thats it! Amazingly reliable car.
british are such a british.. e38 produced since 1994 is outdated in 1999, but the Jaguar with almost identical to 1968 body is not outdated at all.
RivieraByBuick ikr lmao
Indeed, how can you call a facelifted E38 outdated in 1999. Even in 2022 they look great

Test drove an S8 in 2007...beautiful machine...!!!
My favourite model year A8..awesomeness
In Poland, a neighbour envies you 1999 A8 more than 2021 A8.
The E38 7 Series outdated in 1999? WTF?!
Of course, it's an Audi! Outdated before manufactured...
Johnny Vigilante he was referring to the remark made in the video about the BMW 7 series...

E34Benzin It's not outdated now!
cockshield Very true. It's still better than 90% of modern traffic.
He had to slip in that his Audi wasn't a loan car so his neighbours would know haha!
Just picked up a b5 A4 and seen a 97 A8 quattro for sale, tempted to pull the trigger
Do it but don't kill nobody man im thinking bout getting a 1999 a8 in 2 weeks if its still avaliable and I'm not gonna kill nobody lol

Lexus LS400 still running with great resale value, all other marques mentioned are landfill by this time or sold cheaply on Craigslist 😊
lexus are over rated shit
@leggosmodro okdo soulless boring ugly copy cat cars
They didn’t even bother to display a photo of the Lexus LS.. smh.
Can anyone who owns or has owned one of these tell me their experiences with the A8 in terms of reliability? How reliable are they generally? Beautiful car!
not at all. money pit. won't buy another vw again
Thanks man. I chose to buy a Lexus LS400 after years of research & test driving. Couldn't be happier.

MY2000, which means they started selling them at the end of 99.
@1:38 wow, look how high and forward that engine is. It's almost in front of the car. lol
Ian Royal, middle name Rolls. Sorry couldn't resist.

Wise Sloth I just saw one that they said they would let go for 2500 with 126000 miles

Wise Sloth it feel bad sacrificing the v8 for the v4?
J Massey Yeah but, life is tough. Fuel economy matters. I have bills to pay.
1:32 Look how far forward that engine is lol.
LS400 was the real deal, they just didn't know it back then.
Lol to fuel consumption....I have 2001 S8....averages 10 mpg because I drive it properly
Elegante Autos waren das damals! Und heute diese überdesignten Proletenkarren mit aufgerissenen Haifischmäulern.
