Let's see if Skillet follows through on John Cooper's words. It's one thing to be able to say a powerful sentence but when your own actions don't agree with what you say then it's worthless. Skillet's lyrics unfortunately don't contain the gospel and can be happily sung by and agreed to by an atheist.

Man, I remember years ago when I first heard Kirk Cameron was a "Christian" and I thought, yeah, sure. He's a fluffy, Hollywood Christian maybe but we'll see how real it is. It didn't take long and I saw him on 'Way of the Master', making great Christian themed movies, defending our Christian National heritage, standing up for Christian's to be able to read in Libraries (never thought that would even be disputed) and now he's become to me, one of the the main Godly driving forces in the fight. I have to say bro, cause I doubt Kirk has the time to read this, but you are doing an INCREDIBLE job and I'm proud of you. I want to do anything I can to help you fight the good fight. I love this interview with John who I also think is the real deal and it's an honor to see God using you guys and we need to all be in on the ministry God has given us all...that of reconciliation.

You guys identify a really important tool in the spiritual battle that is occurring. Worship has been on my heart and mind for a few months, and I think the Lord has put it on my heard to use music to praise and worship him - in spirit also - as a weapon to combat evil. Not just to sing/play songs without deeper faith and trust. Christian music these days seem to focus on the performance or artist and does not disseminate the word of God or call people to repentance. It's all about "me", or whether the audience will like the groove.

Amen. The music today is simply not Christian music. The focus is on the beat and rhythm, which appeals to the flesh. Also, music is always a reflection of the condition of the church. The church (as in the organization), is in a major mess and in dire need of a reformation. The false prosperity gospel, and new-age spiritism has done much damage. Great video, and God bless.

I don't see in scripture that music needs to be a our focus to impact our culture. This is a good start instead.
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
    John 13:34‭-‬35
By this shall all men know... The focus is to love fellow believers with agape love, as we see over and over again throughout the New Testament. I don't see a lot of that within the church as a whole.

  • @AliveInChrist

Is Skillet going follow through on these words and change it's music subject now to call people to repent before a holy God? Or is this just a suggestion to other bands?
Sadly Skillet's music seems to pander mostly to a secular market acceptable to even atheists.

    • @annamae4761
      @annamae4761 2 года назад +2

I believe they do Christian tours as well as secular. John has mentioned that he wants his band to be a light in the dark. He shared a story once about how one secular artist had lost a family member, Cooper’s daughter who was 5 at the time told the man that she was praying for him. I believe he wants to save the lost not condone what the lost does.

Ironically, many people have contributed to the "change to culture" over the centuries, by being their God given selves.
The Christian music industry(-it saddens me to say that -) thrives on artists who sound and may even look like the current pop music fad.
Sorry, but certain old hymns were written for a commission given to a hungry classical music composer back in the day, so we can't simply reminisce about the past.
But kids, when you get older, you'll "reminisce" about the apparent good old days, too, don't worry.
I cringe when I hear "Grammy and Dove Award winners", as if *their* music must be special..
It could somehow be better than yours, because they got a contract.
Sing your song, because you have an audience of One.
You don't look cool, you don't win awards.
You're just doing it for the Lord.
    (Wait a minute..
I think that could be the bones of my next song there 🤔😁)
There are genuine Christian artists, and there are some charlatans.
This very theme is in our Bible.
    Same as it ever was.

Droves of people are leaving the church. But are their lives really "falling apart", more so than their lives would have fallen apart had they remained within the church?
Christians have this terrible habit of seeing themselves as better than the world such that the world needs saving and being brought up to their standard. The problem is:-
    1. If you look at history and current affairs, Christian behaviour is, on average, little different to that of the rest of the world.
    2. Various surveys show that in the context of well-being, non Christians often perform better than Christians.
    3. Christians need to sort out exactly what is needed in order for a person to be saved, because they have, since the beginning of the faith, been arguing amongst each other over who really is the true Christian.
    4. Christians who leave the church and leave the faith, often do so for really sensible reasons and those reasons often go so far as to the person finding a happier and healthier life away from the church and away from the faith.
Certainly, religion (Christianity in this case), can offer people a lot that is good. However, as so many who have left the church will testify, the faith can also be very damaging to people. Because of what the faith teaches believers, so many Christians appear completely and utterly blind to this fact.

Lets be honest. Music is a business. They will do what sells and they will beat that dead horse until the next horse comes along. They don't get famous without playing the game. Christian music doesn't evolve, it's become just like the Top 40's. And the lyrics are so plain and predictable. The old Gospel songs are great because they were not trying to sell them.

Contemporary Christian music of the 80s and 90s was very John the Baptist-esque! In other words "preachy". Remember?? Anyone want to name the artists? I think people who have yet to hear the gospel need to...hear the gospel...that we CAN NOT add anything to what Jesus did for us all on the cross! The gospel is really simple. Salvation is a free GIFT and is really simple. Just spread that around like wild fire! YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THIS BE THAT FEEL THAT...just believe that Jesus saved us on the cross and paid the price of sin once! We can't add to that! That is FREEDOM! That's a great starting point.
